Re: MLB 15 Franchise Progress Thread

Well, now that Madden '16 is out, I might not be so consistent with updates. However, here we go...

The Tigers swept the Twins in the series before the All-Star break, 4-0. Victor Martinez was selected to take park in the Home Run Derby, hitting four in the first round (advancing in a playoff); and only hitting five in the second round (losing 5-6 to Jose Bautista). The Derby came down to Bautista and Troy Tulowitzki, with Tulo eventually winning in a playoff.

Next up, just for kicks, I'll be playing both the minor league and MLB All-Star games.

Re: MLB 15 Franchise Progress Thread

And on Game 158 of the year, our playoff hopes have come to an end. For the 2nd year in a row, we will miss the playoffs. The empty feeling of playing 158 games, plus Spring Training, knowing that there is nothing to show for the hard work, the roster moves, and the battles, is disheartening. I think back about games where we blew leads, where I over or under managed, and games where bad luck seemed to find us at every drop of a hat.

We have 4 games left ( @Cubs and 3 @Reds). We will use these games to experiment with different lineups and give some younger players a chance to play, as we start the process of looking forward to next season. I'll evaluate where we need help (Bullpen for sure) and areas where we are deep and could possibly have some chips to deal with when the Winter Meetings begin.

But man, 158 games and its over.
I can't shave with my eyes closed, meaning each day I have to look at myself in the mirror and respect who I see.

I miss the old days of Operation Sports :(

Well if you want the NL I would say the Padres, Brewers, Reds. Maybe the Nats if you want a contender.

AL Oakland, Baltimore and I think Houston would be fun.

Though a fantasy draft is appealing as well

I just tried Baltimore and their farm system was so terrible I couldn't make hardly any moves and have their biggest stars up for free agency after the 2015 season. I want to do the rays but don't know if I can stomach that dome. I may just tough it out and use the rays.

Yeah, it's never easy to be eliminated, but take heart that you were in it for 158 games. I know a lot of teams who are out of it in August that would love to play 158 meaningful games.

Oakland is a fun team. You have some good pitching, led by Sonny Gray. And a ton of speed in the outfield, they cover a ton of ground.

It's also fun being on a tight budget and having to find 4A guys to play well for you. Guys like say a Travis Shaw in Boston who probably will never be a full time starter on a big budget team but could be a solid piece for your team.

And personally I love their jerseys and their stadium so that's my sales pitch on them. Not an A's fan but I've enjoyed them this year as a project.

I was also considering them as well! What is it about the stadium you like? Most people hate it. Also, considering their low budget isn't it hard to keep anyone?

There are some really cool stadium and fan animation that seem to only happen in Oakland. I like the retro feel of it and I love the mascot.

I took the A's! I made a couple of "A's like moves". Signed Carlos Quentin and Johan Santana to short term deals to see what all production I can get from these guys who used to have success. I also traded for prospects Byron buxton, Cory seager, Julio urias, and Jorge Alfaro (needed a good future catcher). I also traded for Travis shaw. He can also play third so he is very versatile. I am beyond stoked to see how this all goes!!! Thanks yall. If you have any more tips or advice please share.

                          The offseason has begun.

Thus far, Free Agency is kind of weak, but my goodness teams are trading like its the deadline!

We are holding firm, as we see what transpires after seeing who becomes available by not getting an arbritration offer.

Doug Fister and Greg Holland are the two biggest FA's right now. But we really don't have much to offer as we are strapped financially at the moment. Pondering moves, but not sure what to do.

Scouting note from a Nationals franchise. Fister seriously under performed for me. Very injury prone as well. Ended up trading him away for a couple of prospects.

The 3-way seasaw fight in the NL East continues as the Marlins are still in 3rd place, but just 1 game out of first place. The Braves remain relevant as well, just 3 1/2 games out despite being in fourth place.

The Marlins have seen enough of Paco Rodriguez this season as the young closer has completely fallen apart after posting back-to-back sub-2.00 ERA seasons with over 40 saves in each. This year, he's back over 5.00 ERA and has been sent to AAA.

The Marlins will try a "closer-by-committee" approach with each man also auditioning for the role full time.

The offense has tried to come back, scoring bunches in some games, but then having games such as being no-hit through 8 innings and scoring 1 run in 11 innings.

The team is also struggling to play .500 ball on the road, which is a big departure from the road success the last couple seasons.

Chris Davis hit his 40th home run, and 350th of his career, as his amazing season continues.
