Re: MLB 15 Franchise Progress Thread

The Marlins are getting serious about shopping around Stanton. So much so, that they've also said they'd be willing to include other young players like SP Quinn Williams as well as another possible young player if the right centerpiece came along.

Such an announcement drew out some more names - some of them pretty interesting:

There's Jurickson Profar, who's not been the best for the Yankees, but has everything, on paper, the Marlins want, including a cheap contract (just 1 million, though in arbitration). Lindor would actually be in the realm of possibility as well - seems the Yankees are seeing that possible huge payday coming too...

Cubs hinted about Starlin Castro, which would be interesting in that it would move Taylor back to 2B and end the audition there. Of course, sending Stanton in the NL is not the most agreeable idea. Of all the names, Castro is the only one on a "real" contract.

Reds mentioned Billy Hamilton, who would be perfect for what the Marlins are looking for, so much so that it would be a waste not to put in him in CF, move Revere to RF, and tell Matt Baldwin, "maybe later, kid" and have maybe the fastest outfield in baseball with Yelich/Hamilton/Revere - but, again, Stanton to an NL team. Still, it looks like the NL Central might be gunning for the Cardinals and Stanton's bat would help.

NL East teams also expressed interest...but that's not happening. Stanton is not going within the division.

It looks like the Marlins might could find some kind of match, if this is the direction they want to go in.

Re: MLB 15 Franchise Progress Thread

The Marlins settled on a deal with the Yankees that sends Stanton, 3B prospect Bobby Kruse and reliever Colby Suggs in return for Profar, SS Chris Owings, and low minors SP Casilla.

The Yankees get the marquis talent, but the 26-year-old Profar will hope to rejuvenate an up-and-down career with the Marlins. Profar will get the call at 2B. On paper, he's developed into a fine player. He just needs to translate that into results. Owings might be an interesting bench option and will be competing for such a spot this spring (along with a ton of other infielders).

Fresh off getting Stanton, the Yankees bolstered their rotation with Doug Fister.

But the Marlins couldn't let Billy Hamilton sneak away if they could help it. In the end, they reached an agreement with the Reds at a price. The Marlins will send three good-looking young players, one of them being SP Aaron Sanchez who posted a 2.47 ERA last season and is a strikeout machine. The other two are versatile infield prospect Rodney Gonzalez and budding lefty SP Michael Mader.

Dealing Aaron Sanchez will put the onus on Hunter Harvey. He, like Profar, has developed on paper. His September cup of coffee was a bit bitter, however, and he wilted in the postseason. The Marlins held him back last season, but now will let him sink or swim.

Should Harvey fail, Jacob Turner's resurgence might land him in the rotation again. Trevor Williams has dodged the trade bullet and is still around and the love-hate relationship with Quinn Williams burns on.

The Marlins lineup is likely set among the starters and projects like this:

      Vs RHP: (Con/Pwr/Spd/Reaction)

      1. R SS Chris Taylor (78/28/88/89)
      2. S CF Billy Hamilton (68/58/99/99)
      3. L 1B Chris Davis (83/98/41/61)
      4. S 2B Jurickson Profar (70/70/78/85)
      5. L LF Christian Yelich (98/69/77/75)
      6. L RF Ben Revere (81/34/86/87)
      7. S C Lindsay Robertson (79/60/54/66)
      8. R 3B Jose Campos (68/60/46/83)

      Vs LHP: (Con/Pwr/Spd/Reaction)

      1. R SS Chris Taylor (75/35/88/89)
      2. S CF Billy Hamilton (68/53/99/99)
      3. L 1B Chris Davis (69/84/41/61)
      4. S 2B Jurickson Profar (55/67/78/85)
      5. R 3B Jose Campos (71/61/46/83)
      6. L RF Ben Revere (76/35/86/87)
      7. S LF Eric Young, Jr. (66/33/89/82)
      8. R C Tommy Cruz (85/45/59/60)

Not much change is expect from the top of the rotation. There could be some surprises for the bottom slots. Still, the pitching shakes out like this:

      Rotation

      1. Jose Fernandez (12-7, 2.16)
      2. Damian Boeve (15-8, 2.33)
      3. Clay Huff (6-2, 1 Sv, 2.65)
      4. Hunter Harvey (4-0, 3.86)
      5. Moses Bartlett (13-8, 2.97)

      Bullpen:
      Jacob Turner (4-2, 2.17)
      Aaron Crow (2-5, 1 Sv, 3.63)
      Leonel Campos (2-3, 1 Sv, 3.01)
      Tony Watson (5-4, 2.67)
      Tim Collins (0-6, 4 Sv, 5.60)
      Dominic Leone (3-2, 3 Sv, 3.06)

Pitching and defense will be the mantra while the offense hopes for more power from Chris Davis and consistent contact and speed hitters to keep the pressure on in every inning. Hopefully, the bullpen falls back in line.

New Dynasty Blog going on, "The Brave Way" following The 2015 Atlanta Braves Franchise, using up to date rosters, great sliders and authentic gameplay and roster control. Nice story and in depth detail on what's going on. Hoping its a nice read for all. Take a look, comment and offer your suggestions. I'd sincerely appreciate it.

Re: MLB 15 Franchise Progress Thread

The new Marlins offense seems to be prolific so far, but, then again, the old Marlins offense could look prolific when everything is clicking. It's only been seven games and fast starts haven't been unusual for this ball club.

Still, though, the Marlins have embraced the speed game on the bases. Runners are more able to go first-to-third, score from first on doubles, tag from second to third on deep flies, things that were largely missing in past offenses. The ability to score runs without home runs, or maybe even without extra base hits, has provided consistency to the run production so far. The steals have been there from multiple spots in the lineup as well. The team has ten in seven games with Taylor, Revere, Hamilton, and Young, Jr. contributing 9 of those.

The power is still there as well. The Marlins capped off a 5-run rally with a 3-run HR from Russell Parrott off the bench (another aspect that's new, power on the bench even when Davis isn't having a day off).

Speaking of Davis, he's having a slow start. Whether that's because of a lot of lefties early on, Stanton being gone, or just a slow beginning is hard to tell. He does have 3 home runs in 29 ABs (a pace of 62 if he gets around 600 ABs as he usually does), but batting just .207 so far.

If there's a disappointing aspect to a 6-1 start, it's been the starting pitching. The starters haven't shown up, which is a concern if it keeps up. Huff got destroyed in his first start, Boeve has looked mediocre in his two starts, even Jose Fernandez seems "off" to start the season.

Re: MLB 15 Franchise Progress Thread

30-team Control. Emphasis on the Phillies. It's August 1, 2015 and the Trade Deadline is over. Phils are 42-61. The rebuild is well underway and a clear plan for the future has finally emerged. Here's how things have changed for the Phils.

June 4: Phillies trade 1B Ryan Howard, RHP Jonathan Papelbon, and $10 million to Seattle in exchange for SS Ketel Marte, OF Dustin Ackley, and RHP Dominic Leone.

June 30: Phillies trade OF Grady Sizemore to Pittsburgh in exchange for RHP Jason Creasy.

July 24: Phillies trade LHP Cole Hamels and SS Freddy Galvis to Toronto in exchange for LHP Daniel Norris, RHP Jeff Hoffman, and C Derek Norris (via San Diego).

July 28: PHillies trade OF Ben Revere to Houston for SS Jonathan Villar and RHP Luis Cruz.

July 30: Phillies trade 2B Chase Utley to Baltimore for 2B Jonathan Schoop and RHP Zach Davies.

To recap, since the start of the season:

            Outgoing
            1B Ryan Howard
            2B Chase Utley
            SS Freddy Galvis
            OF Ben Revere
            OF Grady Sizemore
            SP Cole Hamels
            CP Jonathan Papelbon

            Incoming
            C Derek Norris
            2B Jonathan Schoop
            SS Ketel Marte
            SS Jonathan Villar
            OF Dustin Ackley
            SP Daniel Norris
            SP Jeff Hoffman
            SP Zach Davies
            SP Jason Creasy
            SP Luis Cruz
            RP Dominic Leone

            Some Notes
-Caught a break with Utley having an outstanding year. Prior to the trade, he was hitting .311/.367/.533 with 15 HR and 62 RBI. The Orioles (53-48) have an excellent lineup - bolstered by the addition of Carlos Gonzalez - but had a gaping hole at second base, where the Schoop/Flaherty combo had not panned out. The Phillies nabbed a high-upside arm in Davies (22 y/o, 8-7, 3.30 ERA, 112 K/128IP at AA) and a young reclamation project in Schoop, who at age 23 may have already needed a change of scenery.

-The Hamels blockbuster was made possible by the inclusion of the Padres. Talks between the Phils and Jays had stalled and the Phils had begun actively shopping Hamels to the Yankees and Red Sox (among others). The Padres, who were already out of contention, dangled Justin Upton to the Jays. Seeking to bolster an already strong lineup, the Jays acquired Hamels and Upton while parting with several highly-regarded arms (Norris and Hoffman to the Phillies; Drew Hutchison to the Padres).

-The Howard/Papelbon trade has provided dividends to both teams. Desperately needing a change of scenery, Ackley has thrived since getting out from under the weight of crushing expectations in Seattle. He's batted well over .300 since arriving in Philly and has formed a productive platoon with Jeff Franceour. It remains to be seen whether he sticks around for the long haul. Marte, Seattle's #2 prospect entering the season, was playing well at Triple-A before suffering a season-ending knee injury. He may move to second base to accommodate the Phils' top prospect, J.P. Crawford. With Crawford still developing and Marte out for the year, Jonathan Villar and Jonathan Schoop will have a chance to rehabiliate their young careers in Philadelphia. Papelbon is 17/17 on save opportunities since arriving in Seattle and has allowed just one run in 18.1 IP.

-The Phils now have a glut of young arms at AAA and AA. Nola debuted in the Majors a few weeks ago and Norris made his first start a few days after the trade. The Phils' AA rotation is arguably the best in all of minor league baseball (Hoffman, Davies, Eflin, Windle, Creasy). Only Davies has an ERA above 3.00 and ALL FIVE already have amassed over 100 strikeouts this season. Ben Lively was just prompted to AAA after dominating the AA level, striking out over a batter per inning. Jesse Biddle was also recently promoted after a strong first half.

-The above-mentioned young pitching is a luxury for a system that until recently was rather devoid of talent. There's flexibility here now to convert a few of these guys to the bullpen or perhaps put together a package to acquire a strong young hitter.

-Derek Norris is not a long-term answer at catcher, but he's hitting over .300 with a .350 OBP and should enjoy the small dimensions of CBP. He likely only has a year or two left behind the plate but should provide quality production while the Phillies search for their catcher of the future.

Long way to go, but things are looking up for the Phillies.

Re: MLB 15 Franchise Progress Thread

It takes a lot to take at-bats from a guy like Chris Davis, but even this early, Russell Parrott is making a seriously good impression, doing everything asked of him.

The youngster will be rewarded with becoming a part of the new platoon at first base. Davis has struggled even more than usual vs southpaw pitchers, and that's where Parrott's strength lies, so Mattingly will pencil the young 1B in and give him the start against lefties.

The lastest spark he's given was as a pinch runner for, ironically, Chris Davis. Parrott promptly stole second before getting to walk home on a rare home run by Eric Young, Jr.

The Marlins also made a minor trade, picking up infielder Niko Goodrum from the Reds for a couple prospects.

The Nationals grabbed catcher Will Moyer from the Cardinals. Bad enough he went to the team that beat the Marlins in the NLCS last season, but now he's back in the NL East on a quality team like the Nats.

Re: MLB 15 Franchise Progress Thread

Just getting started with my Yankees franchise. We're 7-3 so far. I made a few changes / trades prior to starting my season.

                My starting line-up:
                CF - Jacoby Ellsbury
                LF - Bret Gardner
                DH - ARod
                3B - Chase Headley
                RF - Carlos Beltran
                1B - Greg Bird
2B - Greg Zobrist (stole this idea from DJETERFAN2)
C - Brian McCann (probably will be traded by the all-star break)
                SS - Everth Cabrera

I traded for Ichiro Suzuki for my bench. Great defense & speed & can hit & bunt. My bench also includes Michael Morse (power righty at bat) & Sam Fuld (defense & speed for PR assignments).

                My rotation:
                Masahiro Tanaka
                Michael Pineda
Phil Hughes (Brought the former Yankee back)
                CC Sabathia
                Luis Severino

Excited to see what this team can do. McCann better step up or I'll shed that salary & find someone who can bat .230 much cheaper.

Re: MLB 15 Franchise Progress Thread

The Marlins suffered their first major injury, losing Ben Revere for 4-8 weeks with a broken shin sustained while sliding into third for a triple.

If Matt Baldwin felt slighted by the offseason the Marlins had, he'll get his chance to say "I told you so" as he's been named the starter in RF to replace Revere for the time being. If he's more bark than bite (still) then Eric Young will eagerly take the playing time.

They got a scare with Jose Fernandez, who's become alarmingly injury prone, but it was just a minor issue and he didn't even miss a turn or pitch with the injury.

I've been interested in Zobrist since the beginning of my 'chise. A switch hitter that's versatile and not TOO old and can give me a few seasons after 2015? It was only a matter of time. I just waited on the guys here at OSFM to see what was a fair trade and made the move. Hope he does well for ya.

theres a up and coming catcher from the red sox that can be a good replacement. umm Christian Valzquaz or something a long those lines.

                          2015 Tigers franchise.

Currently 5 games away fro the All Star Break. I am sitting at 44-41 (2nd place) 7.5 back of Kansas City who is 51-33.

I have been marred by a 4 game losing streak. 3 of the 4 games I had the lead and my bullpen blew it. Anyways here are some stats.

Miguel Cabrera .341 19HR's 71RBI's (leads both leagues in RBI's)
                          Victor Martinez .369 16HR's 66RBI's
                          J.D. Martinez .265 6HR's 15RBI's
                          Ian Kinsler .263 10HR's 46RBI's
                          Nick Castellanos .304 4HR's 30RBI's
                          Jose Iglesias .266 4HR's 36RBI's
                          Wynton Bernard .311 0HR's 16RBI's

Ender Inciarte and Tyler Collins have both struggled for the month. Although Inciarte has picked it up a bit lately.

                          Justin Verlander 6-4. 3.19ERA
                          Anibal Sanchez 4-7 .3.77ERA
                          Alfredo Simon 5-6 3.84ERA

I recently called up Daniel Norris and he'll slide into the 3 spot in the rotation.
I DFA'd Randy Wolf and Jeff Ferrell.
Signed Roberto Hernandez to be one of my long relief guys in the pen.

1 game left in Seattle. Verlander vs Elias (1-5) so I hope to avoid a sweep. Then off to Minnesota for a 4 game set headed into the All Star Break.

Game 3 of the ALDS is in the books. Who would regain control of the series as the play shifts to Baltimore? Find out at my dynasty page.

Yea the Red Sox aren't going to trade either one of those guys. But sign Wieters in the 1st offseason.

2015 ALDS came down to Game 5. The Yanks (me) had a 2-0 game lead against the Red Sox and the Red Sox took the next 2 games at fenway to force a game 5. I wont lie, 2004 crept back into my head going into game 5. If interested in watching the game here you go. I live streamed the game to youtube via my PS4 (wanted to try out that feature):

Warren pitched a gem for me (he had a surprisingly great season for me winning 23 games). The Yanks pulled out the win and are now off to play Detroit in the ALCS.
