Re: MLB 15 Franchise Progress Thread
20 games into the first season with the White Sox and it has been an interesting one to say the least. Currently sitting at 13-7 despite a plethora of injuries:
-Chris Sale started the season on the DL due to a broken arm during spring training (supposed to come back soon, which doesn't exactly seem possible depending on what bone was broken).
-In the same game Alexei Ramirez fractured his ankle (6+ months) and Melky Cabrera fractured his hand (1-2 months).
-Tyler Colvin, called up from AAA to take Cabrera's spot, suffered a Head Contusion (3-4 weeks) diving for a line drive.
-Jeff Samardzija suffered a Head Contusion (3-4 weeks) after taking a come-backer off of the side of his face.
Starting rotation is currently Quintana, Rodon, Carroll, Danks, and Noesi (just called up for Samardzija). Outside of Danks (ERA in the high 6s) the pitching staff has been money thus far...the team ERA is in the 2.60 range. Team BA is in the .260s and rising after the last couple of games. Abreu is mashing and LaRoche is getting hot after an ice cold start (~.100 for the first couple of weeks). Carlos Sanchez is starting at SS (a bit of an adventure) with Gordon Beckham the everyday 2nd baseman with Saladino called up to be the reserve infielder. Shuck and Bonifacio are platooning in left (Shuck vs. RHP, Bonifacio against LHP).Comment

Re: MLB 15 Franchise Progress Thread
Game 2 of this young season for the Tampa Bay Rays was much like game 1...
The Orioles take this game 2-1. Steve Pearce was the main offense of the game, hitting in 1 of the two runs by the Orioles via a HR. Baltimore was out hit in this one, though, as they could only get 4 hits between them. The Rays SP Alex Cobb takes the loss in this one, going 7 solid innings with 9 Strike outs, the winning pitcher, Kevin Gausman went only 6.2 innings, with only 3 strike outs. Zach Britton got his first save of the season in this one.
Rays Alex Cobb (0-1 2.57)
Orioles Kevin Gausman (1-0 1.35)
Rays Asdrubal Cabrera 3-3, SB
Orioles Steve Pearce 1-4 HR (1)
Rays 1-1

Re: MLB 15 Franchise Progress Thread
The opening series rubber match..
This game, pretty much just ugly could explain it for the Rays. The Orioles take the series and the game, winning 5-2, after scoring 4 runs in the fourth. They also out hit the Rays by a pretty large number, 11 hits for the Orioles and only 6 for the Rays. 2 of the 6 Ray hits, though, came from Desmond Jennings, who put in his second 2 hit game in the young season, one of the few early bright spots for the Rays this season. Rays pitcher was less than stellar, as Drew Smyly only goes 4 innings, leaving Alex Colome to have to come on for 3 innings him self. Wei-Yin Chen had no problems, and went 8 innings for the win. Zach Britton also notched his second save of the young season.
Rays Drew Smyly (0-1 11.25)
Orioles Wei-Yin Chen (1-0 2.25)
Rays Desmond Jennings 2-4, 2B
Orioles Steve Pearce 3-5 HR (2), 2B, RBI
Rays 1-2
Orioles 2-1Comment

Re: MLB 15 Franchise Progress Thread
It's September 9 in my 'chise and I've lost two in a row to the O's. AL East lead is down to four games. Can I hold off Baltimore in the final three weeks of the season?
Tune in and stay tuned.

Series opener vs Marlins
Very, very ugly game for the Rays here today. Matt Moore was very stellar, pitching 1 hit ball until a shaky 6th inning, but he re-bounded, unlike his offense behind him. He went 7.1 innings, giving up 7 hits, and 2 HRs, one a monster shot by Giancarlo Stanton Moore also had 2 hits, 2 doubles, one nearly a homerun, in 3 ABs. Jarred Cosart was strong, pitching what would of been a complete game shutout, but was ruined by a leadoff 9th inning HR by Evan Longoria, his first. Jeff Baker also went deep for the Marlins in their 5-1 win over your Tampa Bay Rays.
Rays Matt Moore 7.1IP 11 SO(0-1 6.14)
Marlins Jarred Cosart 9IP 4 SO (1-0 1.00)
Rays Matt Moore 2-3 2 2B
Marlins Jeff Baker 2-3 HR RBI, R
Rays 1-3
Marlins 3-1Comment

Re: MLB 15 Franchise Progress Thread
When I play a fun 2-team franchise with my brother we only play like 5-10 games a season as we like playing multiple seasons quickly. We usually get to like ten or fifteen years in before we start over. We love playing the offseason lol.Comment

Re: MLB 15 Franchise Progress Thread
May ended with the Marlins taking the expected lumps throughout the rest of the month.
They ended May at 14-13, and have started June in a less-than-pleasant manner, going 2-4 to start the month.
The result of this is the Marlins holding just a 1/2 game lead over the Nationals and just scuffling everywhere outside of the starting rotation.
The team is still listed at 5th in runs scored, but most of that is because of Yelich, Stanton, and Davis. Most of the rest of the lineup has been horrible to maybe average.
Poster children for this continue to be Matt Baldwin and Nori Aoki. One wonders just how much more rope these two will get to turn things around, especially Baldwin considering there's Marcell Ozuna waiting for another chance.
Jose Campos has also been very disappointing. "Fortunately" for him, so have Gregorius and Hechavarria.
The starting rotation is the bright spot with Jose Fernandez being ridiculously good, even by his standard. He's currently sporting a 1.45 ERA. Damian Boeve's second season has been better than the first so far, posting a strong 2.24 ERA.
The bullpen has been a bloody mess all year long. Hardly anyone can put together a string of good outings and only Cody Allen has a good ERA. Allen is sitting at a 1.32 ERA. Next lowest ERA after that is from the waiver wire pick up Leonel Campos at 3.64.
Injuries:
Carlos Santana will be out for some weeks. This likely allows Colin Moran to return, though David Sohn might be pushing for major league time with his exceptional power against LHP and decent bat vs RHP.
Also missing time is Aaron Sanchez. This injury was scary as it impacted his back during a plate appearance. It looked much worse and could have been much worse. As it is, he is out for 4-8 weeks with a herniated disc.
There's a number of pitchers who could take the spot, but scouts have recently liked the performance of Jacob Turner, and he'll likely get the chance to prove himself - or audition for other teams to come trade for him.
Draft Results:
The Amateur Draft also took place, and here's how the Marlins fared:
1st round - SP Robinson Mota - Age: 20
Mota is a power lefty that just wowed scouts with his velocity. He was hitting triple digits consistently and maintaining it through his outings. He doesn't pick up many strikeouts for some reason, but that could come with maturity and experience.
Compensation Round - SS Ricky Villa - 49/88 - Age: 19
Villa is a high-risk, high-reward prospect. He has a long way to go to reach his ceiling, but scouts have been high on his work ethic and raw athletic ability.
2nd round - CF Freddie Santiago - 70/87 - Age: 22
The "sure thing" out of this group, Santiago is very close to being at least a bench option in the outfield. He does need a bit of refinement, but he might be at the majors next year.
3rd round - SP Tommy Peterson - 52/74 - Age: 18
While not a "wow" prospect, he has some hope, and being just 18 gives him plenty of time to develop and perhaps surprise. Could be a power pitcher in the making, or perhaps he'll find control and be a good finesse type.
4th round - 3B Brian Ozuna - 42/76 - Age: 18
Another teenage prospect that's nothing special, but could turn into a decent player. Doesn't really demonstrate any strengths, so hard to say what he might become. He'll need to find some sort of niche or some way to stand out.
5th round - SP Sean Encarnacion - Age: 19
Sean seems oriented to control and location despite having plus velocity with possible upside from here, given his age. His pitches are very well developed for his age. Question is how fast will he learn how to use those pitches and how high will his ceiling reach going forward.
6th round - RP Dino Andino - Age: 24
Not much to say here (other than his name being fun to say). He does have decent development on his pitches, though he relies a lot on tricking hitters with his junk and hoping they chase. Location will be his downfall, not good in a soft-armed pitcher."Some people call it butterflies, but to him, it probably feels like pterodactyls in his stomach." --Plesac in MLB18Comment

Re: MLB 15 Franchise Progress Thread
This game for the Rays was just plain ugly. The Marlins take game 2 by the horrendous score of 13-1. In this one, the Rays were also only limited to 5 hits, 3 of which coming from Steven Souza, who also got batted in by John Jaso for the Rays only run of the game. Jake Odorizzi went 5 innings allowing 4 Runs to cross, but the bullpen allowed 9 runs between them. On the Marlins side, they were lifted by a wonderful pitching performance by Dan Haren, going all 9 innings.
Rays Jake Odorizzi 0-1 7.20
Marlins Dan Haren 1-0 1.00
Rays Steven Souza Jr 3-4, R
Marlins Mike Morse 2-5, HR (1) 2B
Rays 1-4
Marlins 4-1Comment
