Right handed power hitters pre-arbitration cost a fortune. I think the package would need to include Glasnow+ I don't believe the package you listed was enough.

Before someone brings it up, Arenado is not just a product of Coors Field

Yeah, Kang + Meadows + Taillon isn't nearly enough. Glasnow + Meadows + Bell/Taillon would be a start imo.

Arenado is absolutely worth 2 top 20 guys + another top 100, possibly even more.

Taillon hasn't pitched in nearly 2 years, so he's a bit of a wildcard at the moment. If the stuff can return to what it was pre surgery (from arm then after his hernia) then he's a valuable piece.

I don't want to speak for AC but, I believe he said Carrasco is better than Kluber because CC had a better K/9, FIP, xFIP, and SIERA last year. So advanced metrics do indeed have Carrasco ahead.

Re: MLB 16 Trade Discussion Thread

Hey guys. I mentioned before I was after a top of the rotation starting pitcher for my Jays franchise. I will list some teams who are more than 6 GB of their division or out of it and are willing to move a starter. I will also list the stats for that player. It is currently June 13 in my season and I am 34-28 (3 games back of the Yankees for first) I likely won't make the move for another month but I would love to start keeping an eye on some potential deals for next month.

            Interests (Record/ERA/WHIP/K's)
            Orioles: 27-33 (9 GB) - No Interest
            Rays: 25-37 (12 GB) - Archer (5-2/2.22/1.02/81), Odorizzi (0-7/7.77/1.65/50)
            Twins: 26-34 (11 GB) - No Interest
            Royals: 29-31 (8 GB) - Ventura (5-4/3.45/1.26/50)
            Athletics: 23-40 (9 GB) - Gray (4-5/3.28/1.26/55)

            Braves: 26-35 (10.5 GB) - Teheran (2-5/3.36/1.24/66)
            Phillies: 30-32 (7 GB) - No interest
            Mets: 30-32 (7 GB) - Harvey (5-2/3.01/1.15/66), Degrom (6-4/2.66/0.95/94), Wheeler (1-1/4.58/1.47/16 - 3 games)
            Nationals: 30-31 (6.5 GB) - Strasburg (0-6/3.27/1.29/82), Gio (4-4/4.05/1.31/61)
            Reds: 18-43 (23.5 GB) - Bailey (4-1/1.98/1.13/29)
            Brewers: 24-38 (18 GB) - No interest
            Padres: 23-40 (15 GB) - Cashner (1-1/1.76/1.24/8 - DL 2 weeks left), Ross (2-4/2.55/1.12/79), Sheilds (4-4/3.38/1.25/84)
            Rockies: 26-35 (11 GB) - No interest

Obviously some will be much harder to get than others, but that is a brief summary. My top 5 targets are: Archer, Strasburg, Teheran, Degrom/Harvey, Bailey/Cashner.

If I had a shot at one of those I would pay pretty much whatever it takes from my roster. I also have ChiChi Gonzalez and Ryan Rua from Texas in an earlier deal.

It would be greatly appreciated if I could get some advice on who are fair/slightly realistic targets and what I would have to pay. Thanks in advanced!

If the team held him in that same regard I'd be more inclined to agree. Kluber is #1 in the rotation and Salazar is striking out everyone. Carrasco would be the only one I could see them trading at this point based on how the team values them. I'd say if we are looking at real life value It's Salazar and Carrasco 1 and 2 and Kluber at 3 simply because his W/L record...

Kluber has a Cy Young in his trophy case from 2014, so I'm willing to bet the asking price might be above value, sure... but the Indians are in no position to trade any of their top three pitchers.

I would think that Gray, Archer and Harvey/DeGrom are probably untouchable, though Billy Beane is an enigma. Odorizzi pitching like that might be a target, think a couple guys performing well in upper minors with control would do the trick there. Strasburg would probably command a package similar to Price last year with those numbers (Top Prospect + C + C). Gio I'd have at a mid B+C+C probably.

As for the San Diego guys, I think you're barking up the right tree there. Not much 2016 data on Cashner, so a package similar to Gio might work as a rental. Ross will be pricy, but Shields could be a contract dump type of move. Give them a replacement and a B or C prospect and you're probably fine, IMO. Bailey and Teheran would be quite pricy I'd have to think, pitching like that. Not sure.

I would target Cashner or Gio if you're looking rental, Odorizzi if you want some control. Best bang for your buck on buy-low guys.

That contract is going to be restrictive. He can bring back some good pieces, don't get me wrong, but the length and value left on that thing restricts you to top-10 payrolls pretty much exclusively, and will dampen the return on an otherwise amazing player.

Look for big-market teams who could use a 1B or AL teams who could use him as 1B/DH. Not Boston, too many 1B's there. Ditto Toronto. Yankees probably wouldn't do it. Maybe Texas? They've got some good prospects, but Prince is already there. Tough call.

Thanks a lot for your response. Okay I will think on if I want a rental or control. Odorizzi I would likely have to add a bit extra due to the same division. Him and Cashner are probably on the top of my list.

I don't rly have any salary dumps I could use for Shields besides Happ who has been very nice out of my bullpen.

I will have to see how i do the next month. Strasburg Is very tempting though!! As is Gio.

Humour me. What would it take for Teheran????

Rumors are that the Braves want a middle of the order bat that is pre-arbitration for Teheran. It really depends on how he is pitching. Last year version was bad. 2014 Version was pretty legit.

I don't really know if I have that on my team lol. My middle of the order bats are either untouchable, too old, or free agents next year. Although, I do have Devon Travis who could be involved in a deal for a top rotation SP.

Might have to go after Odorizzi, Gio, Cashner, or Shields. Or pay up for Strasbutg
