Not sure how committed I actually am to this franchise, but that lineup in Fenway could be fun

That's a three true outcomes lineup right there.

I have a few of those guys in my Sox franchise. Trumbo is awesome for me. He can find both gaps and of course hit them out. Gallo and Schwarber - they can get them out over the bullpens. Heck, Gallo can beat the triangle once his power rating climbs (especially if it skyrockets like it did for me). Finding the Monster is harder since they are natural pull hitters. It's doable, though.

Buxton if you can get him to hit the Monster, he'll be fine. He might be shaky otherwise.

The Cardinals Face Off At Chicago Vs The Cubs In A Critical Late September Series

September 23rd 2016 - Matheny's Red Birds started the month of September 8 full games in front of both The Cubs and Pirates. However they have lost 6 of their last 7 on a brutal road trip stretch. Losing all 4 games to the NL West leading Giants and 2 of 3 to the lowly Rockies. It is the worst stretch of the season thus far for the best team in the entire Show (90-62). It had everything from bad starting pitching, shaky relief, and a power outage at the plate. Matheny though has wiped the slate clean heading into the Windy city. The Cards have owned the Cubs this season with a .700 winning percentage heading into their critical 3 game set at Wrigley (beginning tonight on Twitch!). Bryce Harper has been vocal about putting it all together for this run of the final 10 games which will close out with a 7 game home stand vs the pesky Reds and the surging Pirates.

The Cards are expected to win their division and be the #1 seed heading into the ALDS. Join me for games streaming live almost nightly and then for what is sure to be an exciting post season to round out Year 1 of:

Re: Official MLB The Show 16 Fantasy Draft Franchise Progress Thread

Here's my latest drafted team with the Reds. Not really a Reds fan, but they have so many awesome uniforms that I'm excited to use them. Currently 3-0 after 3 great pitching performances. I also have DH turned ON in both leagues because I'm an AL guy and hate having my pitchers bat.

          Rotation:

          Kershaw
          Matt Harvey
          Ervin Santana
          Julio Urias
          Daniel Mengden

          Bullpen:

Bartolo Colon - gutted through 4 shutout innings in my first game as it went 16 innings
          Jason Grilli
          Matt Thornton
          Carlos Estevez
          Phil Coke
          Kelvin Herrera
          Andrew Miller
          Dellin Betances - closer

(Love the Royals and thus I love having a great back end of the bullpen)

          Lineup:

          Fransisco Lindor - SS
          Josh Harrison - LF
          Nomar Mazara - RF
          Victor Martinez - DH
          Joey Gallo - 1st
          Yoan Moncada - 2nd
          Mike Moustakas - 3rd
          Willson Contreras - C
          Mallex Smith - CF

          Bench:

          Ichiro
          Mike Aviles
          AJ Ellis

          Top Prospects:

          David Dahl
          Dansby Swanson
          Lucas Giolito
          Alex Reyes
          AJ Reed

I have quite a few other A-rated prospects and 3-4 more Top 50 guys, but I'm not at my PS4 right now so I can't remember off hand.

I also have quite a few veteran minor leaguers in case someone gets hurt. Thinking about cutting Ichiro and bringing up a guy with more speed in the minors, but we're only 3 games in so I'm probably going to wait it out.

Maybe too many young guys, not enough speed and half of my bullpen is way too old, but I'm pretty satisfied so far! Luckily I have a lot of young talent in the minors, so if I need to I can make a deal or two for some speed or another bullpen arm if my slew of old men get hurt or fizzle out.

Re: Official MLB The Show 16 Fantasy Draft Franchise Progress Thread

Ok so I have wanted to do an American League team for a regular franchise but can't figure out a team so I have decided to do another Fantasy Draft team using the Seattle Mariners using the Mid Season OSFM Roster

I have used a little bit different strategy for this team as I have with my other Drafted teams. Usually I go SP first this time I started off with a hitter.

Also I usually will make trades to get some people I want before the start of the season. Not this time, just going to stay with the team I drafted till later in the season if I need to make moves then.

You will some familiar faces, cause well I like those players lol

Here is the team I came up with:

            Starting Line-Up
            SS Trea Turner
            3B Manny Machado
            1B Greg Bird
            RF Giancarlo Stanton
            LF Nomar Mazara
            C Salvador Perez
DH VS RHP Ryan Howard DH Vs LHP Darin Ruf
            2B Dansby Swanson
            CF Mallex Smith

            Bench
            C Christian Bethancourt
            2B Mike Aviles
            RF Jarrod Dyson

            Starting Pitchers
            Marcus Stroman
            Michael Fulmer
            Carlos Rodon
            Jerad Eickhoff
            Kyle Lohse

            Bullpen
            Dylan Bundy
            Ken Giles
            Trevor Gott
            Jonny Venters
            Dellin Betances
            Kevin Siegrist
            CP Greg Holland

            SP Lucas Giolito (A) 21

              Nice team

Ichiro would seem to fit a "Royals-style" roster. Fast, quick, good reads, strong arm, decent bat (and still plus vs LHP by his ratings).

He's old for sure, but that sounds like the kind of player that would fit that style of team.

Edit: NL with the DH. That will be interesting!

                A win...finally

Steven Matz pitched a good game, going 7 innings, allowing 2 runs and striking out 6.

Seth Smith hit career home run # 100 in the bottom of the 7th to put the Tribe up 3-2.

Andrew Miller pitched 1.1 innings retiring all 4 batters (ending with a Rizzo pop out to start the ninth) and Craig Kimbrel earned his 3rd save of the year

The Tribe has a much needed day off, prior to a 3 game series against the Mariners.

                Series Preview
After snapping a 5 game losing streak, the Tribe 5-7 faces off against the 8-4 Mariners. The Mariners boast a formidable lineup. Francisco Lindor, Dustin Pedrioa, Mike Trout, Nomar Mazara & Yoan Moncada (DH) will be tough outs for the struggling Tribe.
                GM 1: Michael Fulmer (1-1 8.03) vs Chris Tillman (1-1 1.80)
                GM 2: David Huff (0-1 10.80) vs Mike Fiers (1-0 5.40)
                GM 3: Bartolo Colon (1-1 8.18) vs Brandon McCarthy (1-1 4.50)

                  Thanks!

Yea he does fit a Royals style bench player. He plays great defense, so even if he goes 0-4 in a random start he won't totally screw me over. Plus I can play him all over the OF so he can give anyone the day off, which is a huge plus when I only have 3 backup fielders. The same basically goes with Aviles, even though he isn't the greatest fielder, he can backup in 5+ spots in a pinch.

FYI: If anyone uses the Reds as a team, Josh Harrison is from Ohio so he gets a HUGE boost to his moral. He's like an 85 overall or so for me right now. I think he's like +5.

                    Game 1 Vs Texas Rangers

A 9-2 win for Marcus Stroman. He pitched 7 strong innings giving up two solo homeruns one to Johnny Peralta and Miguel Sano.

Starting pitcher for Texas was David Price which I have always hit good against. He gave up 5 runs in just 4 innings of work

                      Game 2 Vs Texas Rangers

Michael Fulmer pitches a two hit one run Complete game. Fulmer had a no hitter going into the 5th inning when he ran into a little bit of trouble.

Wil Myers started off the inning with an RBI double to break up the no hitter. Johnny Peralta then singled him in to score the Rangers only run.

Then Fulmer shut them down the rest of the win to win 9-1

Sox Limp in from After First Half
Team Begins Second Half of Campaign in First But...

The Red Sox are sitting in first place with the seeming fixed lead range between 4 and 6 games (current 5 1/2 over the Rays). They had an 8 1/2 game lead before a disasterous 3-5 road trip greeted the Sox as they come regroup from the first half.

All told, the Sox are 51-37 so far on the season. The big reason the team has any lead at all is their record within the division. The team is 18-9 in the division. Everyone else is .500 or lower against the AL East. However, the Sox have played by far the fewest games in the division, so things could change drastically...in either direction. The Sox could keep the lead going if they keep playing well against their rivals, or things could look very much different.

One concern has been play away from Fenway. The team is just 26-21 away from Fenway Park. It seems the team has adapted to playing Fenway...perhaps too much so, especially from the right-handed hitters like Jorge Mateo and Miguel Sano.

Mateo in particular might be getting to flyball happy as the Monster is teaching him some bad habits. It works at home, one reason he's already at 22 doubles (21 last year). However, on the road trip? Not a single double.

The other concern has been even MORE injuries than last year. The team currently has 11 players on the DL across the organization. Four of those (Buxton, Maeda, Chung, DeShields) from the major league squad.

Fortunately, most of the backups, acquired or otherwise, are doing a decent job. Buehrle has been dependable, Yusniel Diaz has been solid enough, and Derek Law has been pretty good out of the bullpen outside of a couple bad outings. His 3.75 ERA hides a 1.17 WHIP and he has a 3.42 FIP.

Didn't want to quote all of that but was a great write up

                            White Sox and Pirates Deal
                            ChiSox Make Risky Move

The All-Star Break was a quiet time for the players, but the White Sox and Pirates GMs, both first place clubs, made a swap that really is a gamble for the White Sox.

The Pirates picked up 1B Prince Fielder from the ChiSox in return for 1B prospect Dominic Smith and RP C.J. Edwards.

The Pirates side is easy to figure out - they needed an upgrade at 1B and they got one on paper. Fielder is hitting .303/.369/.531 with 22 HR and should give the Pirates just what they are looking for.

The White Sox? Well Smith is a solid prospect. He has good upside and he's growing into it. However, he's not going to produce what Fielder would be expected to for the rest of the season. Perhaps the White Sox have a follow up move in mind (or are hoping to find one), but, right now, it has to be a shock to the fans of the team.

It will be interesting to see what, if anything, the White Sox do going forward now that they have a big hole at first base.

                              Two In A Row

Michael Fulmer pitched a gem; 7 innings, 4 hits, 9k zero runs. Dansby Swanson pushed across the lone run. Carson Smith & Craig Kimbrel shut down the M's in the 8th & 9th to secure the Tribe another victory.

                              Final score 1-0

(Fulmer has lowered his ERA to 5.12)

Kenta Madea Tosses Gem As Cardinals Take Game 1 Of A Crucial Three Game Series At Wrigley 3-0

The Cardinals entered the first of 3 games at Wrigley ahead of the surging Cubs by just 3 games with 10 games remaining in the season. Rookie pitcher Kenta Madea (10-10 3.97 ERA) who has been struggling in his last 3 starts was on the bump. Made pitched perhaps his finest game of the season tossing 8.1 scoreless innings walking none, yielding just 3 hits and fanning 10 Cubbies. Dellin Betantes recorded the final 2 outs for his 52nd save and the Red Birds took game one by a score of 3-0. The game was scoreless through 5 innings as rookie pitcher Mike Cooney was strong for the Cubs. Chicago has 3 of their top starters shelved on the DL. Sonny Gray, Dallas Kuchel and Gio Gonzalez are all out with various injuries so the Cubs have had to turn to the farm and surprisingly they have really come through for them. But today the Red Birds did just enough at the dish to prevail. Francisco Lindor led off the 6th with a double, Bryce Harper then doubled him in. Rookie Tyler "Great" White then smashed an RBI single. Then of all people Kenta Madea hit an unlikely RBI infield single to plate White.

The lead would hold. Game 2 is tonight as Carlos Rodon get's the call. If the Cardinals manage to sweep the Cubs they would really solidify their NL Central lead to six games with 7 remaining. The Cardinals will go home for their final 7 games. 4 games vs the Reds and then a 3 game series vs the Pirates to close out the regular season and Year One of The Matheny Manifesto.
