Re: Problems and Issues with current/throwback Uniforms

I am a huge fan of the game, but the strict adherence to this "if it's not in the style guide we can't do it" feels like an easy way to dismiss errors as uncorrectable.

How can I buy a jersey on MLB.com that is different from one in the game? Surely, Major League Baseball would insist that their own O&O site would be the standard bearer for how the uniforms are supposed to look.

How does Mitchell & Ness have different versions of the same jersey in the game?

How could the MLB hold SECA to a different standard than they hold themselves and other third party vendors to?

And frankly, would they be angry if you got something more correct than in the guide?

I'm going to try to answer your questions without any bias.
      1. Scea claims they are held to the guide. It's up to individual teams to update it and authenticate it. Sony was probably just told to follow it.
      2. MLB shop is now run by fanatics. They would receive backlash if you got some $300 jersey that didn't have the same team font. They probably also do business with team shops.
      3. M&n probably follows same practices. I think they license specific players and teams. Style guides don't contain older jerseys that aren't currently worn, so they just follow old media pictures.
      4. MLB just wants their players and teams out there so they probably just hand a 30 team guide to follow.
      5. I'm not here to fight (or retell this story again) but I got access to some teams in the guide last year. The Pirates Sunday jersey has the correct block font and the mariners cream has been included the last two years. Sony says no. I proved them wrong twice. Obviously, I cannot post the proof or jeopardize that person's career. I'd just swallow Sony's excuse better if they said due to time, we just color swapped the Pirates hence the new font and our slot issue is the reason for the absence of the mariners cream.

Hope that answers your questions. As a uniform collector and nerd and a huge show and baseball fan, it bugs the crap out of me too.

SCEA literally said the cream jerseys weren't in the style guide? That's shocking. I always figured they weren't in the game because they just didn't fit due to the slot system and one jersey just had to be cut and that was the one they chose but how can they claim that a jersey that the team wears isn't in the guide at all?

Some possibly unfortunate news for any Twins fans out there like myself. I just got back from Twinsfest tonight and we might the victim of the style guide once again. Looks like the Twins TC hats with the gold outline are not in the style guide. The uniform guidelines poster in their clubhouse had a hat without a gold outline, hence there being no gold outline on the cap in The Show.

I wonder if they will be able to get the Spring Training gear in this year. I hope we aren't stuck with ST gear that is 2 years old

Pretty sure the new gear will be in. This has happened before where MLB released ST unis too late and the new gear was in the following year. Plus, the fact the twitch schedule specifies new uniform sets is good indiction they'll be in.

Very true. I think we will see more attention to the uniforms this year with them specifying uniform sets.

Wait a minute on the spring jerseys, those supposed 2 year old spring jerseys still exist for most teams as they are now the BP/warmup jerseys and they were used throughout 2016. In the past spring and BP jerseys were the same but now they are different and the show has never labeled those jerseys as Spring training jerseys they have always called them warmup jerseys so unless they have included both spring and BP/warmup jerseys then there's a high chance the show still has those supposedly two year old spring jerseys as the warm-ups and the 2016 spring jerseys will not be in the game. The only way they would be in is if it's a team like the Phillies whose spring jersey was also an in season alternate then it gets in. Also some teams spring jerseys are just a rehash of a previous alternate that they had.

                    Does this make sense?

Spring jerseys and warm up jerseys are different and some teams spring jerseys happen to also be alternate jerseys.

Unless the uniform system has changed the warmup jerseys are staying and the spring ones may not get in.

The 2016 Spring training uniforms weren't in MLB 16, because they were released by MLB too late in the cycle to be added in.

The spring training uniforms have always been designated as "warmup home and warmup road" in the show, but have always been actual spring training uniforms. Most teams spring training uniforms (starting in 2016) are basically alternate uniforms. The Twins Red Alternate, Phillies red alternate, Mets blue, Royals road alternate, and the Dbacks red alternates are spring training uniforms in real life. (Prior to 2016 most teams actual warmup uniforms were what they wore during ST)

I have no doubt they'll be in. Ramone even said last year when the new uniforms were released we'd have to wait until 17 as it was too late to be put in 16.

True I do rememeber Ramone saying that last year. I'm just thinking there's a chance the 2015 spring jerseys which someone above called "2 year old spring jerseys" might still slip in as warmup jerseys if the uniform system has changed because they do still exist.

Rockies outfitted with one shade of purple

New color is specific on all caps, jerseys, other apparel

                          By Thomas Harding / MLB.com | @harding_at_mlb | 6:40 PM ET
DENVER -- Purple is purple is purple (finally), no matter where it shows up in Rockies Nation.
From the franchise's outset, purple has been the club's identifying color as a nod to the line, "For purple mountain majesties" in Katherine Lee Bates' lyrics for "America the Beautiful." But the problem has been that the Rockies' purple majesty has shown up in too many shades.

So the Rockies have updated the purple and believe they have found a specific shade that shows up the same on caps, on protective gear, on one of their alternate jerseys, on various hoods and jackets on authentic gear. They believe the shade they've found also can be matched on replica merchandise, printed items, promotional items and the like.

For those scoring at home, under the Pantone Matching System (PMS), the Rockies will be wearing PMS 2685. It replaces PMS 273 on the color chart.
"The purple that we had, the issue was for something that's such a part of our core -- the Rockies and purple are synonymous -- that purple had a lot of variance," Rockies director of retail operations Aaron Heinrich said. "So this isn't a change -- that kind of symbolizes breaking away, a rebrand. We are defining a Rockies purple that we can use -- one that is communicated consistently on-field, one that we believe looks good over the media when you see it on TV, and one that we can be consistent with."
Especially maddening for the obsessive among us was the purple alternate game jersey.
"Just watching us on games, at different parks it looked different based on the lighting in the ballpark," Heinrich said. "In some ballparks, it looked like we were wearing blue. In some ballparks it was a dark purple."
This answers a question several fans have raised on Twitter, after noticing that the purple in official caps sold by New Era shows brighter in online advertising.
"We think we honored the purple -- who we are -- and kept that tradition, but we made it something that is more consistent," Heinrich said.
Heinrich said the consistency should hold up in spring 2020, when Under Armor takes over for Majestic as the official MLB uniform supplier.

OK, one more on my theme of improper proportions. Numbers on the front of the Dodgers uniforms need to be thicker.

                            Real:

                            Game:
                            MLB: Pittsburgh Pirates, Colorado Rockies
