Re: MLB The Show 17 Supports 4K & HDR on PS4 Pro

I gotta say I'm having trouble finding a good setting for HDR on my Sony X800D.

On my normal settings that I use with every other game, when HDR is on there is a white-washing look to everything.. like I'm seeing it through a white film. I turned the color all the way up and turned Live Color to high and that helped, but it still seems too white.

I know Philliesfan13 posted about this in the impressions thread. Just wondering if others with this TV are having the same issue, and if they can find settings that alleviate it. I had no problem with HDR in Horizon or Tomb Raider, so it seems to be specific to this game.

4K: Wow. Sharp as hell. Can't find jaggies unless I'm sending the feds after them. Frame rate is playable during gameplay, but I think I'm seeing sub-30 FPS during cut scenes. Judder during cut scenes almost seems like the whole screen is flashing or strobing. Use this mode for your screenshots. It hurts my eyes in motion.

Enhanced Visuals: Sharp on close ups but not as sharp as I would like for distant objects. I think they use a weak form of anti-aliasing. Gameplay seems very close to 60 FPS as the pitchers motion has a high degree of fluidity. Not too much judder when I press R3 and pan around. Cut scenes are closer to where you would expect them to be based on MLB 16's performance, with a similar amount of judder.

They said this mode would have similar performance as the base PS4 version, but it exceeds my expectations performance wise.

High frame rate mode: The holy grail. If you are used to the amount of jaggies this game has always had on PS4, you're all set. Feels like a locked 60 FPS with few compromises. No judder on throws across the diamond. On plays and cutscenes where the camera view is isolated to the field with little crowd, less than 60 FPS but mostly smooth. When the screen is mostly crowd, you start to see it dip and a little judder is introduced, but so improved. Other scenes will dip for no discernible reason I can tell. But gameplay is always smooth.

HDR: I set it in the middle and a night game at Wrigley Field looks very bright. Brighter than I'm used to. I will have to play around with this more. I lowered the brightness on my TV and it looks more natural.

The problem is that the input lag was killing me with pitching. It's 35ms in HDR mode vs. 17 on the fastest HDMI port w/o HDR. Small sample size, and I was using some AAA pitchers since the rosters expanded in my franchise, but I could rarely get a good pitch thrown. Hitting wasn't as affected. I won handily on Hall of Fame with double digit hits.
P Series has 43.8ms in HDR according to Rtings. That is a lot better than it was though. It was initially around 60ms. That was one of the main reasons I returned mine and opted for the KS8000, but it is good to see they got it down quite a bit.

I'm on the 65ks8000 and I'm finding HDR intensity set to about 75-80% the sweet spot for HDR on this set. I'm going to continue to tinker with it to see if I can get it better.

Yes I am having the same issues. I have the same setup and it looks washed out.

I had HDR at 100% and 4K on, the game looked beautiful on this set. I paused the game to change my hitting view and then it went bright as hell.

This has to be a bug. Has happened to me since Friday. Anytime you change a setting in-game it does this.

Correct. Even just changing between 4K and Enhanced Visuals, without even touching the HDR Intensity slider, makes everything this weird bright filter.

I'm on the KS8000 and with the HDR slider maxed out, the colors are simply incredible.

I really wanted that TV but my Best Buy was out of them and I wanted to stay under $1,000. Ended up getting a Sony X800D. Maxing the HDR slider on that set doesn't make colors pop at all IMO. Seems like it washes them out a bit.

Yeah, man I got super lucky with the tv. Like 6 months ago, I was doing my research trying to figure out which set I wanted to upgrade to, and read all about the KS8000, but it was WAY out of my price range.

I had come to grips with keeping my LED (had it for about 6 years), but then on Christmas my girlfriend surprised me with the TV. I had never even mentioned it to her at all because of how much it was and blah blah. She know nothing about technology or what's a good TV or anything like that. I still can't believe out of all the TV's she could have got me, I got lucky and she picked that one. Lucky, lucky man.

The X800D doesn't get bright enough for true HDR10. It maxes out at 375nits according to Rtings, while the Ks8000 can get up to 1500nits. I think that means since you can get to about 40% of the required brightness of HDR10 that you should have the HDR slider at around 40%.

Well this is disappointing. Should have just held out for the KS8000.

I didn't get to play as much last night as I wanted to, but I think I noticed the glow on top of the helmets during a night game as well. I'm thinking that's intentional, though.

I am seeing the exact same things you are but my intensity slider is only about a 1/4 full. I see the blue colors and halo/glowing effect on players at night. Don't know how to make it go away.
