Re: MLB The Show 17 Supports 4K & HDR on PS4 Pro

I have a KU6500 Samsung 4k tv and my game is never full screen? MLB 17 is the only game that doesnt play at full screen. I also cannot change my HDR settings or intensity they have the lock.
Lastly I do not own a PS4 pro.

    Any help fellas?

Theres definitely a bug when I go into the menus and change anything during a game, even hitting interface or something, it completely changes the colors and makes it all washed out and have to restart. Using Odoggs settings are perfect when you get your picture locked in on the main menu, but if you pause and change ANYTHING in the menus, it will change your picture settings at least in my experience. Hope they patch that asap.

This is a huge deal breaker if they don't fix this hdr issue..

This isn't a TV thing. I believe you have to go into settings on the PS4 and find the screen size adjustment and extend to full screen. This happened last year as well.

P.S. you will see a setting in the picture menu called HDR+, ignore it and do not turn it on, it's a Samsung thing they came up with to try to make non-HDR content better. You will not be using this feature if you know what's good for you.

So the KS 8000 defaults at 50 sharpness. Are you recommending taking it down to zero? Wouldn't that make everything seem blurry or out of focus?

Re: MLB The Show 17 Supports 4K & HDR on PS4 Pro

              Thank God for this thread....

I own the 43" Sony x800D and after playing Horizon and being stunned at how good it looked with HDR and 4K I was really pumped to see The Show. It always looked washed out.

Except for one time. I remember starting a Jays vs Astros game in Houston and the intros looked AMAZING...Like I finally had that eureka moment with this game like I had with Horizon and HDR. Then I paused, changed the mode from HFR to Enhanced Visuals...And it all went to hell again.

I spent the wholeeee game tweaking it to no avail. Finally just shutting HDR off. But it makes perfect sense why that happened. If you do ANYTHING in the settings menu during the game, it just washes the screen out and looks terrible. What I was seeing with the intros and opening cutscene of that Astros game was what the rest of it would have looked like if I hadn't touched anything.

So, when I get home, I'm going to set the HDR slider to half, set everything in the menus as I want them to be, back out of the game and then restart. I think that I'll be getting similar "wow" moments as I did with Horizon.

Nope. You want sharpness at 0 because it will make everything look how its intended. By having sharpness at 50 you are actually distorting the natural picture.

Half the time when I start a new game, it looks terrible until I go into the settings and change something, and the other half of the time it starts fine. I've yet to seen it get too washed out just from going into settings.

MLB The Show 17 Supports 4K & HDR on PS4 Pro

I have the ks8000 and what I did was turn HDR off. I toggled the dynamic contrast between off, low, med and high while in game. I chose a dark uniform like the Brewers alts and if you do this you'll notice the color pops with contrast on high with HDR off, so if you have the ks8000 try this as I want to see if you see the same thing. Also game was Brewers at home 1pm sunny

Yep. Basically, start sharpness at 0 on a certain test pattern and start increasing it until you start seeing artifacts. Some models will see it with just one increment, others can maybe do it up to 12 or so. But zero is a safe bet with Samsung. Sharpness at 50 is pretty ugly.

                          Anyone with a Samsung set

go into your color space and choose "custom"

then ONLY go to "yellow" and set these settings WITH MLB The Show 17

                          red - 92
                          green - 56
                          blue - 10

                          Now set it to "cool"

^ Maybe for yellow (and green, which obviously has yellow in it) which can improve grass, dirt, and flesh tones... but your whites are suddenly going to be far below 6500K, and way too blue.

Start at Warm 2 (closest to 6500K for whites) and adjust White Balance settings before anything in the Color Space. You'll find the right place eventually.

2-point. Try and only play with Red and Blue, not green. Offset refers to the darker "white" areas, gain refers to the lighter white areas. For the record, a lot of people's Samsung sets have whites that end up too blue in Cool/Normal (starts off yellowish in Warm 2 but is closer to the temperature of your target white setting), and blacks that end up too red regardless of initial temperature.

It's gets a bit more complicated. If your dark whites have too much blue per say, and you turn down the blue "offset" to compensate, it will actually raise the blue for the brighter whites a bit (visually, if you had a meter you would see the change easily). It's a bit of a teeter-totter, where if you adjust one then take a reading of the other and you will see it has changed. They need to be balanced to achieve the best results.

Don't enter the 10 pt settings unless you have tools, professional calibration knowledge, and about a 1/2 hour per pt of time to use haha. Those should not change things majorly, and barely anything in there should change to the eye.

Just remember that the point though is for white to look like white and black to look like black. Most other colors will follow if Color Space is on Auto. If not, try Native. If not, then go to Custom and be very careful what you adjust in those six colors (Red, Green, Blue, Yellow, Cyan, Magenta).
