MLB '16, though? Absolutely not 60 FPS. Not even close (likely 30). I just popped it in yesterday. No motion blurring techniques involved either.

Gameplay has been at 60 FPS since like 09. Cutscenes not so much but game play yes 60 for the last like 7 years.

Thanks for the response. So let's say if I put in another game like 2k do I have to select high frame rate option since I only have a 1080p? Or does it automatically do it for us for each game

NBA2k17 doesn't have options, if it recognizes you play on a Pro it will just run in Pro mode (higher image quality, stable framerate)

MLB The Show 17 has options, where you will start the game in default rendering mode and will have to go to the menu and select high framerate mode.

Some games have options that you have to select in the menu and will change on the fly, some games don't have options and in those cases the Pro Mode is automatically turned on

Good to know. I'm not upgrading until we can get 60fps throughout the whole game (cutscenes and all).

Yeah, I wouldn't say it's locked 60 in high frame mode based on what I've seen. I've seen dips here and there in the between-play scenes depending on parks and conditions, not unlike last year. But since it runs in a higher framerate overall, those moments when it dips aren't as jarring. That's what makes the cutscenes look so much smoother compared to previous years.

And gameplay might not dip at all from 60 based on what I've seen. That's the big one for me.

Streams and videos can skip, so I wouldn't render final judgement yet, though. We'll all see for ourselves on Tuesday. The one thing that is apparent from the videos is that there is an overall smoothness to the game that wasn't there in past years - that's the only thing I want to take from the streams and videos.

I remember arguments on here about the frame rate on PS4 and some guy uploaded a 60 FPS video he made with his camera and pointed out why it was not 60 FPS.

I assume gameplay consists of throwing across the diamond to first. Well, when you do that we can observe judder. Motion is not smooth. I don't believe it's 30 FPS but it's not 60 either. Another way to see this is to press R3 during an at-bat and pan across the field. 60 FPS would mean it's generally clear during motion, however, it's blurry during motion (though your television may introduce some blur as well).

There's judder because it's fluctuating between 30 and near 60. For an example of a very smooth 30 FPS, try Forza Horizon 3.

Here's another way to see the difference: https://frames-per-second.appspot.com/

              Set it up like this.

Set one ball at 30 FPS, one ball at 48 FPS, and one at 60. Set the speed at 500 or 1000 pixels/second.

The 30 FPS ball is less defined than the 60 FPS ball (though your monitor will introduce some blur probably, it's way more clear than 30 FPS).

Now notice the 48 FPS ball. It judders. That means that while it's generally smooth, it's sort of pulsating, like it's catching on some imaginary object every few milliseconds. While it's moving left and right, it's also sort of shaking.

That's the best I can explain it, and MLB 14-16 has this judder on PS4. I've been playing 16 in boost mode on PS4 Pro and while the frame rate seems improved to me, it still has judder. It would be great if MLB 17 had a 30 fps lock option. That would improve judder.

                That was me.

There were definitely times that '16 reached 60 FPS or close to it (I tend to lose my perception and only see differences until 50 or so). But there were others that it dropped into the 30's (closed roof stadiums, mostly - Skydome and MMP were the worst). And yes, the phone videos I made were to prove that point.

Thankfully, it seems like the devs took that and similar feedback to heart because it looks like there have been major optimizations across the board this year - not just for high frame mode.

Yeah, honestly the non-pro streams they showed looked much smoother than last year, so I'm going to wait on a Pro for now...although that GS deal is rather tempting.

It's awesome that just like Horizon, everyone, regardless of system or display, is in for a treat with this game.

Then my '16 must be installed incorrectly, because I'm extremely sensitive to framerate and it's immediately noticeable when it's not 60 FPS.

The good news is that as SDS had claimed everything they've shown was captured on a regular PS4, that there are moments of 60 FPS glory even in their trailers. I'll find an example right now.

I personally feel as though the show is much smoother in online play than offline (franchise, RTTS)

Probably because of the lack of cutscenes and more barebones presentation

Haveing a pro seems like it going to give you an advantage in online games. I don't think that's very fair to people.

To me it won't be an advantage. Online is all about connections and servers.

Even though i'm scared about the overall quality of the game (offline only player). Twitch is not indicative but that's what i'm seeing...

MLB17 on regular - stuttering, low quality, last year's graphics, not so good looking night games...

MLB17 on pro - ten times better graphically, zero stuttering, best graphics ever...

Mil told us to check regular streams. I did it, but now i feel worse. I've already prepared moneys to buy the Pro. Hope that's not the case...

I don't want to sound tragic. But if what i'm seeing online reflects the actual quality...we're done. Stuttering is still there in cut scenes and replays. Hope to find out that the difference was OS's connection and capturing/streaming hardware...

Coming from the PC world I appreciate that better systems will get better results. However this post concerns me as it seems like the standard PS4 users are getting a bit gipped and wont get the nice faces etc, whilst having the niggly framerate problems?

Is this actually the case? Ive read conflicting views, but this stutter vs non stutter and the 10 times better statement is the most vivid and has taken me a back a bit.

I barely play my PS4, so investing in a 4K TV and a PS4 Pro is nonsensical to me, so im hoping that the game holds up on the standard PS4 on a 1080p TV.

I'm still so confused on PS4 vs PS4 Pro. Because PS4 does HDR right? So how many games coming out actually are 4K in addition to HDR? Is The Show 4k? It seems like a lot of these old games were patched to be HDR so it doesn't seem you'd need a PS4 Pro to see the improvements (Last of Us, Infamous, etc..).
