Re: MLB 17 Trade Discussion Thread
Pick a bullpen pitcher from the Marlins that is having a shut down year (that is not named Ramos/Barraclough) and send him and Gordon to STL for Weaver/R.Arozarena, assuming he made the OSFM roster. If he didn't, look around the STL farm for a young corner OF/IF with C pot."for love of the game" - B. ChapelComment

Re: MLB 17 Trade Discussion Thread
I wouldn't give up Bellinger for Grienke. But that's just me. Switch it to Verdugo or Calhoun as the headliner position player and I think it works

Re: MLB 17 Trade Discussion Thread
Is there something I can do to sweeten the deal for Bellinger in your opinion? I'd prefer Bellinger as I'll need my first baseman of the future after dealing Goldschmidt to WAS. I especially love that he is from Arizona. Robles will be my future CF and I just asked about a potential deal with HOU in which I'd get Hernandez, so I'm not seeing a need at OF. I'm also dealing Ray to the Cubs for Happ, so I'm solid at 2nd as well. Though I do like Calhoun.

Re: MLB 17 Trade Discussion Thread
So the thing with LA is I doubt they would care enough about salary relief to give up a top 10 prospect. Unless Grienke is pitching like his 2015 self then I don't see how they get such an elite prospect for an old pitcher making almost $35 million a year. I'll try to think of something you could add but I'm drawing a blank. The other headliners seem okay although I'd rather Walker than Ray if I'm giving up Happ

As far as Greinke is concerned, he's 5-1 with 86.2 IP, a 2.08 ERA and a 2.4 WAR. He's pitching lights out for me right now. (June 9th, 2017)Comment

Here's some food for thought...Take the Verdugo deal (everything we've seen says he will hit very well at the MLB level) and then flip Pollock to HOU with Martes and AJ Reed as the main guys. Reed no longer classifies as a prospect as he put in 45 games with the big club last year.
Walker, Ray, Bradley... 6:5 pick 'em. I went with the lefty."for love of the game" - B. ChapelComment

Re: MLB 17 Trade Discussion Thread
I don't mind swapping Walker in for Ray. They're both pitching about the same right now. I like Walker a little more but it's not end of the world for me if its all that stands in the way of getting Happ.

Re: MLB 17 Trade Discussion Thread
Yeah, the LAD deal was the one I was going back and forth on but then I realized I was letting last year scare me off like everyone else is. All things being equal, I just don't think last year is a fair representation of what Grienke is. I was less worried about salary relief and more trying to put money in the deal to make it "look better" since we can't give/take cash in the game.

Walker, Ray, Bradley... 6:5 pick 'em. I went with the lefty.I went and checked. Greinke is still owed $172 million. To dump that and get Bellinger Greinke has to produce an average of 4.8 WAR over the next 5 seasons. Over the last 5 years he's had 20.7 WAR or an average of 4.1ish. If you take out the bad 2016 you get 22.4 WAR which is closer at 4.5ish per year. But he's aging and there's little reason to expect him to improve much more. All of this is using $10 million as the value of a win since that's the figure AC pointed out when the McCutcheon talks happened

Say I do the Verdugo trade. Does that include taking on Ethier's contract? How does that trade work as I would expect a better deal for me if I'm not getting Bellinger. Also, if I go this route, I'd want to move Peralta or Tomas. Where could I find a market here? Current expectation is to send Pollock to HOU for Francis Martes and AJ Reed (still really like Hernandez).Comment

Another thought, would LAD be interested in Ray (or Bradley or the long list of prospect arms ARZ has) to get some cheap innings in anticipation of Kershaw's lifetime deal after '18?"for love of the game" - B. ChapelComment

Man, what a bummer. I love Bellinger and those AZ roots for the Diamondbacks.

Re: MLB 17 Trade Discussion Thread
I dont think you'd have to take on Eithier in that situation. Basically it come down to LAD saying hey if I'm willing to give up Bellinger why don't I talk to my buddy in Tampa and get 5 cheap years of Archer instead of 5 expensive years of Greinke. You could probably get Verdugo plus something else. I keep saying Mitchell White but he has a lot of helium and seems like a legit pitching prospect

Something like:
LA
Greinke
Dawel Lugo
ARI
Verdugo
Ethier
Calhoun
I'm starting to ponder if there is a move I couldn't turn around and make with some prospects/position players to pull Gallo from Texas. Something like Drury, Miller and Calhoun? I could then send Pollock to TOR for Reid-Foley and McGuire? That gives me a future defensive lineup of:
C - McGuire
1B - Gallo
2B - Happ
SS - Owings
3B - Lamb
OF - Robles
OF - Verdugo
OF - Tomas/Peralta
If I've found myself standing out in Left Field let me know, either way I'll start making my trades after the next responses.Comment

Re: MLB 17 Trade Discussion Thread
That's a fair point. The Show isn't even going to let me push a trade through that doesn't include Ethier for budgetary reasons. With that in mind, does bringing on Ethier's contract give me some wiggle room for a better package?

That's way underwhelming Pollock. He's better than SRF and McGuire
