Just downloaded the game, messing around with trades to get a feel for this year's system while waiting for rosters to be completed. Feels like prospects, even A potential guys with lots of value, don't matter much to the CPU. Teams aren't interested even if all I ask for a 30 year old bench player. Seems like if there's not an MLB guy involved there's not going to be a trade to be had. And the trade finder puts together really lopsided packages most of the time. Didn't spend a ton of time with it, so what's the consensus on trying to use the Dombrowski method of prospect packages for proven players?

Re: MLB 17 Trade Discussion Thread
the trading is harder this year as I was messing around with trading players with the pirates and I couldn't acquire Quintana or anyone with 2 A potential minor leaguers plus Hutchinson unless the pitcher was a 4 or 5 in the rotationComment

Agreed that is nicer. Just wish the CPU trading was more realistic.Comment

Controlling the Yankees, looking at picking up Sonny Gray, mike foltynewicz or Michael Wacha. Which would be the most realistic? Willing to part with Mateo, Rutherford, Williams and maybe a few others.New York Yankees
New York Jets
New York KnicksComment

Re: MLB 17 Trade Discussion Thread
It feels like no matter how much surplus value you're giving the CPU, a package built around just prospects isn't going to get you very much. Which is good and bad IMO. Good so that you can't just go out year 1 and build a dynasty by doing the old quantity for quality trades. But bad because realistic trades involving just prospects on one side are very difficult to pull off. I enjoy being able to cash in some of those young guys who are years away from contributing for MLB ready talent, but this year it feels like that is next to impossible.Comment

Re: MLB 17 Trade Discussion Thread
Once the roster update is out, who should I target as trade targets for the Pirates? I'm thinking of going after Qunitana but I might want to be realistic and trade Cutch if he is struggling or if he is doing great and I'm not contending and then bring up MeadowsComment

I think Quintana is a great idea, but possibly not worth the cost, if you like Glasnow enough (I think he has to be involved). I'd try moving McCutchen to give Meadows room. Trouble is, you either have to accept it as a rebuild trade, or find a team in the playoff hunt who has a surplus of starting pitching and a need for a CF.Last edited by lil frier; 04-02-2017, 11:06 PM.Comment

Re: MLB 17 Trade Discussion Thread
Tough to say as there still aren't many teams who could afford that contract, or would risk it when there are still so many years on it. It's a lot like Votto, the guy is quality and worth the money he's on, but he's got so many years committed at that high price that it's such a large commitment and gamble on them staying at that level.
Others might disagree, but I don't think he has much value even if he has a Cy Young year, just as the contract is so bad. But he'd need a great year for anyone to even consider taking him off your hands imo. In real life they are almost certainly going to have to retain a huge chunk of his salary to get rid of himComment

Re: MLB 17 Trade Discussion Thread
I'm still waiting for OSFM to release but I wanted to ask about a potential trade option involving Texas and LA (Dodgers). If in this scenario, Texas is pretty far back and LA is pushing for a strong World Series run, is a trade involving Yu for a package around Bellinger realistic? I'm hoping to get a young 1B Prospect, one P prospect and one OF prospect in return for Yu. I'm kind of thinking of something along these lines:
LA Receives:
P - Yu Darvish
C Prospect
Tex Receives:
1B - Cody Bellinger
OF - DJ Peters
P - Mitchell White
Am I swinging too high here with Darvish becoming a Free Agent?Comment
