Re: MLB 17 Trade Discussion Thread

Good people of baseball knowledge... What could I get or should I ask for the following players in my Rangers franchise -

    Yu Darvish
    Cole Hammels
    Jonathan Lucroy
    Carlos Gomez
    Adrian Beltre

Not necessary going to trade them all, but I doubt I resign Darvish, Hamels (free agent in 2018), Lucroy, depends on cash as well as Gomez and Beltre I am just curious what he could fetch me while moving Gallo into starter roll for 2018 and the future. I don't want to take advantage of the CPU though so curious what you guys think would be fair.

    Thanks!

Hard to give an opinion on that as the Rangers are probably a WS contender so selling off their top 2 pitchers and one of their best hitters would be tough. And I'm pretty sure they just signed Gomez to a one year deal so his value won't be as high. Beltre's value will also be lower due to age. Just my opinion, would be interested in what other opinions are.

The market for Dozier is going to be set at the deadline. An off/pre season trade is real tough as everybody has settled into a lineup and April is the time to see what you have. Injuries will also play a big part. If teams like Detroit and Houston are playing well and Kinsler or Altuve go down, they will overpay. I could also see SF trying to get in the mix regardless of injury.

You're in a tough spot. Getting rid of any of these guys will constitute (with the possible exception of Gomez) a 'fire sale' and the whole league will smell blood in the water. Darvish is pitching for a lifetime contract so I expect him to be 'lights out'. He could get you a couple pieces depending on your franchise scenarios at the deadline. Lucroy has some value but you're not going to approach what you spent on him. Hamels is in the same boat.

With possible HoF talk starting to float around Beltre, just let him retire as a Ranger and have him teach Gallo the strike zone.

Think so? I don't even know if they will win their divison. Wildcard is possible though, but who knows, I didn't think they would win the AL West the last two seasons either.

Most sims I did (to get a feel for offseason) the Rangers finshed 3rd or 4th in AL West, so I was thinking about simming 2017 season and just doing GM stuff, player movements, scouting, drafting, training etc.. and then starting with the 2018 season.

IRL if the Rangers struggle, I see them shipping Darvish off as I highly doubt they resign him and the money Lucroy is going to ask for, I doubt he is around after this year either.

I'm going to be asking about Darvish again soon as I'm weighing a few options. One option that I was given earlier though would be dealing Darvish to Pittsburgh (if they're contending at deadline) straight up for 1B Josh Bell. This gives Texas a young piece at 1B that could have star value in the future.

Hamels is someone I'd like to hear the value on. Gomez won't net much, maybe a high C. Beltre I wouldn't bother moving, he's close to retirement and HOF.

If you going to sim, get to the dealine and give numbers for Darvish along with teams making a playoff push. That will narrow down the possibilities and make it easier to put a deal together. Fair warning: you're probably going to be disappointed as the deal will be for much less than in the past with the changes to the QO, teams know what you're trying to do. 15 starts of Darvish will not net the return it would have last year (injuries aside). That being said, last rumor I heard was that Texas was going to get every opportunity to re-sign him. Obviously you're a TX guy, what's the local sports talk radio saying (just out of curiosity)?

We know what Lucroy is at this point, look for an AL club with an injury at catcher.

Interested in what a return I could get for Ozuna with the Marlins. I think I could get away with Ichiro/Hood for the rest of the season if need be as I'm almost to the deadline and am in 4th place. Looking for either future OF help or pitching in any way. Ozuna is hitting roughly .265 so nothing great.

Edit: Also the value for Volquez

That's about where I would expect Ozuna to be. Somewhere around 260/320/440 with 10-12 bombs. He should net you 2 B prospects, keeping that in context with the clubs pushing for the playoffs that need OF help. 2 years of club control remaining is the bulk of his value.

Volquez...meh. If he's dealing (and that's a big 'IF')...that means an ERA in the very low 3's and a WHIP below 1.2, you might be able to sell him to a NL club desperate for rotation help for a C pitching prospect. Otherwise, you're kinda stuck with him.

That's kinda what I'm thinking. Need to build up the farm and I could probably find a OF in free agency to fill in. I'll have to look for any form of contenders for Volquez to get minimal return for. If he's not pitching well I'll probably just keep him to make it realistic

Hey guys! Started 7-1 with the Braves (pitching is on fire.. like I don't even understand how!)

What could I get for Kurt Suzuki!? He's my #2 catcher & unhappy. He costs a bit much for #2 and I don't plan to resign him after the season.

CPU offers me Trayce Thompson, but I don't see how realistic it is (I wish tho, as I'd like to improve my OF).

Depending where I'll be mid-season (playoffs would be a dream-I'd go for an MLB player but 7-1 is nothing on a 162g calendar!) and if I'm out, prospects would do the trick.

That's what I figured, I wasn't thinking of it being an off season trade as everyone sorted their 2B situations. I was more looking forwards to even see where he might fit in anywhere as the market for him has all but disappeared.

I figured the Card's might be the last decent option, given the struggles of Kolten Wong (who would probably be part of a deal). Giants have Panik who has real life injury issues, but probably won't on the game so that's tough. Unless a team losing it's 2B or someone starts competing who I didn't expect, I reckon Card's are about as plausible as I can think of

Red Sox franchise. Looking to move Steven Wright this offseason. What is his value if I am looking for a prospect back? Obviously it would depend on how he performed in 17, but what are some thoughts?

As we sit here today, little to no value. Mid 30's knuckleballer heading into arb for the first time that hasn't proven he's gotten over the manager-induced injury last year. I wouldn't be surprised if he doesn't even make the Red Sox roster next year.

If he finds "it" in '17, slightly different conversation. But if he finds it, why would you trade him? Unless you're like me and hate pitching with the knuckleball in the video game.
