Re: MLB The Show 18 Twitch Stream Starting Now - Franchise Mode

So, ignoring my general feelings about what I knew didn't make it and focusing on the stream, here's what I really like:

-The "phases" menus are clean and engaging. As a whole, phases are actually a nicer change than I expected...while some seems a bit oversimplified, it does a lot for organization of certain information overall.

-Unrelated to franchise, specifically, but the generated faces look absolutely fantastic overall.

-The fixes to various trade logic bugs.

-The changes to retirement logic (looked like the most promising fix overall IMO).

-I like the separation and breakdown of contract status.

-Small change, but I appreciate them moving the 40 man column on the roster page so you don't have to scroll.

Some changes I like in theory, but am less sure about in practice:

    - RP logic sounds good, but I need to see how often changes take place before declaring it a win. With what is, IMO, over-dramatized hot/cold streaks in franchise, I do worry about the potential for quick triggers...especially if it's evaluated after each series.

    - The fixes for 5-9 in the lineup logic was too vague, so I'm unsure of the benefits. Any improvements are appreciated here though.

-Improved injury logic. I'm curious to see how well it works overall, but the bare minimum of the correct position player being reinserted upon return is definitely appreciated.

-Call-up/Send down logic. That's always tricky, so we'll see.

    - I'm a bit worried about the minor league position depth changes, tbh. While I appreciate trying to balance AI rosters, I also would prefer taking guys already on the team and maybe swapping to a secondary or comparable position than trades, cuts, etc. to make it happen. That might be too big of an ask programming wise though. This is another "we'll see."

Overall, some potentially solid fixes. I'm still a bit underwhelmed overall, but I can see how the cleaner organization could make deeper additions in future iterations more palatable to less familiar players. Whether or not that actually happens is a discussion for another time though.

The small team excuse is laughable.

Is the game a smaller price then?

You don't need to have access to it to use common sense to see that MLB The Show with Diamond Dynasty and stubs and everything to know it's a CASH COW.

Seriously. lol Are we really going to argue about whether or not they make a ton of money from this game?

The point is, the "small team" excuse has gotten old.

You are being irrational, you should take a breather. Maybe go outside, stretch a little, a few deep breaths. It truly does wonders for me when I am in a stressed exchange.

And still, not even close to the level of Madden or 2K, which have similar avenues for extra revenue and are multi-platform.

The small team excuse may "be old" but it doesn't make it any less true.

Not to mention that Madden and 2K are multi platform as opposed to The Show being limited to one console.

I don't think you're wrong in making the conclusion that they are a cash cow but you are wrong to assume you know where that profit goes if you truly don't know.

Question - do the cpu teams get the money from marketing/advertising or is it limited to user team? My impression from previous versions is the cpu team don't get it and I don't like gaining an unfair advantage so I never used it.

I asked in the chat but didn't see it answered.

Love the new menus and overlays. I think they're the best ones they've ever had. Phases is cool for clarity and display. When you are playing Franchise for months, it's great to be staring at bright and dynamic menus that are clean and easy to navigate. I also like the home screen with the pitcher matchups. The players are bigger and clearly better in the face and uniforms are much more bright and textured. Aesthetically, this game is going to be amazing.

It's a tad frustrating they haven't fixed interleague schedules. But just a minor setback in my mind. Not going to let it ruin the fact this game has been amazing for years and this year will just be a cleaner and more visually impressive mode.

I would also like to see a few more changes. New stuff is always exciting but that doesn't change the fact this already a very deep and enjoyable baseball sim. It should be a lot more immersive this year with the changes to presentation and commentary. And the gameplay looks improved so that will also greatly help immersion and authenticity.

Overall across all the streams they've done, people will realize they made a ton of great changes in a lot of areas. And once again this game will be a godsend to us baseball people. And all of us normal, reasonable baseball heads will once again get our fix and then some.

Forever thankful this isn't an EA game. If the NHL series were like the Show, I may literally need to quit my job.

Why not both? This stream was the final one to convince me that 18 is not improved enough to warrant a purchase. I will continue with 17 and hope that 19 actually has things like the new right field stuff and Trout farm in LF in Anaheim stadium, a much better franchise with 3 team trades and more than 3 for 1 trades, contract extensions and much more. It's cool, I will just have to skip this year.

No rotating inter league schedules is the only downside I’ve seen thus far.

Very pleased with what they did work on.

I played less of the show 17 than any other edition because of gameplay in manage mode - too little offense. I was looking for a ton of gameplay in the franchise stream and I didn't see any.

On what are you basing you assessment of improved gameplay? With very few changes to franchise and nothing to convince me gameplay has improved I'm not sold on the show 18. It's not the $60 dollars, just don't want to feel like Charlie Brown having Lucy pull the football away again.

They usually do a great job in these streams but this one didn't do what I thought it might.
