Re: MLB The Show 18 Twitch Stream Starting Now - Franchise Mode
I'm not sure how I feel about franchise this year.
The new interface is cool, sure. I like it. They discussed certain improvements to logic, like closer logic and lineup logic. I like those things too. I would be more excited if they spent most of their time improving logic, but what I'm gathering after watching the stream is the majority of time was spent on designing their new interface.
I saw glaring things like Stanton going on the trade block. Nolan Arenado was also on the block. i.e. theoretically untouchable players in real life being shopped. Jose Altuve left Houston in free agency too.
I believe anything can happen in baseball, but these are a bit strange. We also didn't hear anything about player progression improvements. The whole stream was just phases. The whole thing.
Creating stadiums in franchise would have been cool, and whatever other new thing folks wanted, but I would rather the nitty-gritty, under the hood stuff gets improved. And I haven't seen much of anything that suggests it has, to any substantial degree.
Hoping I'm wrong.
But for the people that let's this drive them crazy, just play 30-team control. As long as a game features this like the Show does, then I don't worry too much about logic. Because I fell like it may never be what I want it to be.
If a bad trade happens in 30- team control, you just simply reverse it. Or if you don't like anything in general, it's easy to fix. And for someone like me that only likes to use one team, it's easy enough to put the other 29 on auto and just focus on my team. And then when something strange happens, I just fix it.
Another thing I started doing last year, is during FA if a stud like Harper signs with the A's or something, I just total up the teams that would normally have a chance to sign him, and do a RNG and the player goes to that team.
I know ideally you wouldn't have to do 30-team but logic has never been good in sports video games. So by doing this, you can move passed it and simply enjoy the strong parts of the mode.Comment

Maybe not a thing a lot of people care about. But I thought the created/drafted players looked WAY better than last year.Comment

Re: MLB The Show 18 Twitch Stream Starting Now - Franchise Mode
I don't want the game to just decide "this player would never be traded" because...yeah...no one knows that. Also, how would this apply to fictionals? Why would it be more "logical" for a 97-rated fictional stud to be traded if the logic is applied only to real life avatars? I mean, I was 13 years into a franchise...that logic would have either fallen apart or felt overly forced.
But I'm the type of person that thinks "I wonder if anyone would have 'blessed' the Stanton trade that was made this offseason?" I'm guess most would have said it was "unrealistic"."Some people call it butterflies, but to him, it probably feels like pterodactyls in his stomach." --Plesac in MLB18Comment

I actually like what they have done with the new phases. It keeps you organized and helps visually as you're building your team. It honestly shows how disorganized and confusing the mode always has been.
This would be easier to swallow if they were 100 percent honest and straightforward with a vision for the next 2 years or so. Admit the current shortcomings of the mode and that this is step one of a 2 or 3 year process to redo franchise and I think a lot of people would be okay with it and even welcome it. Instead it is the "main" improvement for franchise that is nothing more then a facelift, without any mention of building upon the mode in the future.Comment

Re: MLB The Show 18 Twitch Stream Starting Now - Franchise Mode
have you not found that even if a CP is not in the closer role the CPU will always go with the closer anyway in a game because he is a CP not a RP??? on every single save situation, you can't just say overthinking when their is evidence there from the past and wondering how it will work

Re: MLB The Show 18 Twitch Stream Starting Now - Franchise Mode
Yeah they need to figure out a way to bake that "untouchable" factor into the trade logic so when those players are in their prime they either A. Never get traded/go to free agency or B. Require a massive trade in return.
Factors that can contribute to which players are untouchable for a team:
1. Where does the player rank among franchise talent? Top hitter, top pitchers are less likely to go.
2. How many years has this player been on the team? Where did they start? Fan favorites that have been with the team most or all of their career, players that are iconically associated with your team aren't going to be traded easily. (Your Jeters, Bumgarners, Chipper Joneses)
3. How many awards/records has the player won? How many have they won on this team? Are they approaching a record now? Cause you're not going to trade Barry Bonds as he packs stadium after stadium leading up to the home run record.
4. How many times has this player been an allstar for your team?
5. How many playoff/world series wins does this player have with the team? If a player doesn't think they'll ever get a ring with their current team they might take their talents to South Beach.
6. How much do they cost vs team salary? If you can't afford a player, you can't afford a player.
7. Is this player a likely Hall of Famer? This is basically an amalgam of most of the other attributes.Last edited by Jimmydm90; 03-15-2018, 08:15 PM.Comment

Perhaps we should all abandon the CP. I don't think you need a player active on the MLB roster for it, there is no point to having it if this new bp logic is inComment

Re: MLB The Show 18 Twitch Stream Starting Now - Franchise Mode
If a team is "playoff push" or whatever the phrase they have for that kind of team, they shouldn't be looking to trade away high rated players, same for teams who are considered rebuilding with trading away top prospects. Don't think that should be that hard to code in as they already have the mechanics that decide whether teams are trying to win now or rebuildComment

So wait, why did Houston release Jose Altuve to FA? Why was Stanton being traded away from the Yankees? Anyone know if this was the cpu AI doing this or the streamers?Comment

This is about as far as I'd like to see them go. It would be easily applicable in out years of franchises (i.e. when the "real" players are diminishing in number or ability and fictional studs and starters are climbing) and is something that it seems this AI could deal with more readily, even if applying an "adjusted OVR" or however it values players in trades."Some people call it butterflies, but to him, it probably feels like pterodactyls in his stomach." --Plesac in MLB18Comment
