I don't necessarily disagree with that sentiment. If we're working off a surplus and production, Cano is still doing his job and doing it well. But as I said before and as you've followed up, age is a real concern here. 24 Mill for Cano this season, great. 24 at 40, not so good at all. Age and degrading ability are just really hard indicators to evaluate because everyone ages differently. Beltre is still balling out at 38 but surely that has to taper off soon. Is Cano playing like Beltre at 38 or he is another in a long list of guys who saw a steep falloff after 35. It's something for us to consider in these deals but I don't know how far we can go in adjusting worth. If that makes sense.

I just did Miguel Cabrera's surplus and WOW is it bad in case anyone ever wonders. It is an astonishing -108 million. That also does not include the two years of mutual contract years because there is noway the tigers will pick those up.

I saw a article on fangraphs talking about aging curve, and that a player who ages normally will lose about .5 WAR per season after 30.

So maybe we can use that some how.

Take the avg war and if a player is going to be 30 or already over 30 subtract .5 for every contracted year past 30?

That would make miguel cabrera a -172 surplus.

I do not disagree with doing it this way but it will take alot of work to redo the spreadsheet

I'm not necessarily opposed to using this. With that said, we've found that Fangraphs displays far more upside in their assesments of WAR. Sometimes players have a WAR that is 4 full points higher than what we use (Baseball Reference). I'm wondering if maybe deducting .25 per year after 32 and then .5 after 35 would be best. Although I'd have to get some unanimous agreement on that from the guys who respond because we haven't had a set takeaway from older players.

No. Bellinger has a surplus of 181.8 million so it would take acuna plus Wright plus Soroka plus Gohara and could even say Anderson because that would get you to 209 million in surplus and obviously for the dodgers to sell Bellinger they would need an overpay

Starting new KC franchise but want to see if there is any trade opportunity thank I could consider to get Acuna from the Braves. Probably nothing realistic, but wanted to ask the experts.

Where would we see the WAR.

I'm on Sandy Leon page and she his total WAR in Boston is 3.0

Is that what you're using for the WAR for the formula?

Value wise yes but realistically no.

Scroll down to where it says Player Value-Batting and WAR is listed by season. The way we're calculating is using 60% 2017 WAR, 30% 2016 WAR and 10% 2015 WAR. So for example with Sandy Leon:

                              2017: -.1 x 6 = -.6
                              2016: .7 x 3 = 2.1
                              2015: 2.8 x 1 = 2.8

                              2.8+2.1+.6= 4.3 divided by 3 = 1.43 WAR
