Re: Lack of attention to franchise mode..thoughts?
I dont understand all the negativity towards franchise mode on all of these threads. I have been playing the show since the very first one came out. I'm not sure what all you guys expect from franchise mode it already has everything in that a real gm or manager can do during a season. There is no reason for them to make a huge change to this mode. Now yes there definitely are some tweaks and things needed but in no way they need to do a complete overhaul. Franchise mode is the only mode I play in this game. I play every pitch of every inning and absoulouty love this game. For me presentation and gameplay is the only thing that matters.
With all of that said I haven't seen enough yet for me to buy 19 right away. I will buy 19 after I finish year 2 of my Braves franchise on 18. I'm at the end of July in year 2 and just want to finish that season instead of adjusting to 19 in the middle of my season that I'm so locked into. I will be watching my man Armor streams and seeing how long it takes him to get the sliders on lock before I make the move. But you never know he may change my mind. Lmao.

Do you play franchise mode in other games? Compare franchise mode in The Show to NHL 19. It's not even a comparison!! It blows my mind how much more comprehensive NHL 19's franchise mode is!! It's amazing!!Atlanta Braves
Atlanta Falcons
Auburn Tigers
Detroit Red Wings

All of that would be amazing and I wish that was all in the game especially Gm and Coaches with actual tendencies. But what game really has that.

NBA2K has everything in the current CBA. If they can do it, why can’t every sport franchise? I wish they all did.Comment

Re: Lack of attention to franchise mode..thoughts?
But other than that and of course expansion mode....The Show does everything as well as NHL and better in terms of and here it is again “Franchise Presentation”.
In NHL the news feed is awful, and I feel zero connection to the league and what is going on around it.
I want my franchise mode in the game.....not in menus. When I play The Show I see scores and stats from around the league every single game of the season. Standings flashed every game, a radio show giving me scores from around the league when I am doing roster management in my franchise.
Again......it is about what peoples idea’s of what makes up a great franchise mode. For me.....feeling immersed and feeling like the league is alive is first and foremost and quite frankly......The Show is better at this than all the other major sports games....INCLUDING NBA 2K.
2K has an amazing suite of customization. I love MyLeague. But.....and this is huge.....again the league and the mode is buried in menus. During games.....I am getting minimal information about the rest of the league. No out of town scores, no playoff race stuff...nada.
The Show again makes me feel like I am in a pennant race because I am scoreboard watching in September as I play my games and seeing what is going on in the standings.....while I am playing.
Not going through menus.
That is a core difference and what really get’s lost among all the talk about The Show’s franchise mode.
And it is personal taste. But for me? The Shows presentation smokes all other sports games over the long haul.
I have played 2K18 a ton......and the in-game presentation is excellent. But I hear the same old tired lines too after 40 games. But where the Show shines is they implemented dynamic storylines into the lineup screens and in game.....and that is a fact as I played all 162 of my Yankees franchise on 18 and heard new things in September. All the different camera angles, the real time replay they amped up the presentation on 18.
And now? I was so stoked after seeing the last stream. The new presentation is going to be off the hook and make you feel connected even more. And for me that equals an even more alive franchise mode.
Storylines are the foundation of franchise mode for myself and few other here.
Do I want full single A ball, revamped scouting, historical stats, full replay system like in the MLB today etc etc etc. Yes of course!!!!
But when I play 300 - 400 every pitch every inning games a cycle....I want to be immersed when I am you know.....playing the game. 90% of my time playing The Show is on the diamond.....not in menus reading stuff.
The Show nails this. Hence why the game each and every cycle is so successful.
If anything I want more presentation in terms of the off-season and draft. Hot Stove, a draft preview show (ala NCCA College Hoops 2K8). That would be fire.
Anyway it firmly confirms my feelings that yes.....Presentation is a massive franchise feature. Because there is a lot of franchise specific presentation going on with The Show.
Edit - As far as Madden.....their in game presentation has gotten a lot better in terms of when they finally added an around the league score ticker. But how they don’t have authentic Fox, CBS, ESPN or NFL Network authentic broadcast packages is beyond comprehension. The generic EA sports is crap. And makes it feel like a video game not a television broadcast. That is a huge disappointment year in and year out. The Show (using MLB Network and of course Sounds of the Show to give you a regional broadcast package in one theme), NHL (NBC Hockey presentation) and NBA 2K (their in game presentation is top notch as we all know) run circles around what is deemed the most popular sport in the USA. That is ridiculous.Last edited by Armor and Sword; 03-09-2019, 11:22 AM.Now Playing on PS5:

Re: Lack of attention to franchise mode..thoughts?
But, see, this where I think the The Show needs to improve more. Like you, Armor, I play lots of games each cycle and have a franchise that's in Year 17 carried from 14 to 18 and if I get 19 at some point, it will carry over then, too. Every single one of those games has been played out in full games. No simming/quick play/player locking, etc.
The stories that have played out in all those years have been all in my head or my interpretations of what's happened with the teams, players, coaches, etc.
The game has told me none of it in presentation. Only "major" moves get shown on the screen in the offseason. The rest is in menus or emails and red ! symbols and text windows. Sounds a lot like OOTP. Where's the radio show that plays during the season/postseason telling you about the scores and game performances? Why isn't it telling me about moves, players climbing/falling, notable players on the trade block in July, etc?
And none of it is the players interacting and showing personality. Been in the dugout and on the field with these guys for years across several versions and they are the same and it's still the same, I'm in my head making up stories for the franchise reports with no help from the game making some storylines.
Yes, I've had to do that for other console games, but I have to do it here, too.
Why couldn't game have Boeve, a "struggling" (by his standards, and the game recognizes this with the "Player Performance" morale and access to his prior stats) veteran ace, talk to the pitching coach? Or the manager deflecting questions about sticking with him in the top of the rotation? His current resurgence defying scouts opinions? All of this could have been spawned by his on-field (i.e. me playing him) performance.
That's just the latest example from my franchise and the kind of immersion I want driven from the player's actual performance, based on my play, (which, again, the game is aware of, both absolutely and relatively to himself and probably the league or where ever it gets its progression movements from)."Some people call it butterflies, but to him, it probably feels like pterodactyls in his stomach." --Plesac in MLB18Comment

To me, franchise mode has basically felt like a string of play-now games (disclaimer: my last played version was '17, but I think most would agree the mode is hardly different since then) with buggy player development, limited rosters, and an underwhelming offseason. You need to come up with several workarounds/house rules, take 30-team control as your religion, and invent your own storylines as you go like KBLover alludes to because the mode is unable to do a lot of these things for itself.
The strictly franchise mode items (the parts of the mode you use to build and run a team) largely seem like a rough draft at an idea that was left on the drafting table to never be revisited again. These features have not even tried to keep pace with the current state of the game irl. The draft, free agency, finances, player progression/regression, scouting ALL feel this way to me. The new features that we have gotten lately (contracts, quirks, morale) mostly seem to suffer in their actual implementation--although the jury is still out on whether real contracts will come with any tinkering under the hood with finances in the game.
It's clear that you put a lot of thought into your opinions and long-form writing about the game that many around OS seem to find inspirational. Much props for that. But, I definitely disagree with your take on this mode. I think you get 90% of what you've stated that you like about this mode by just playing a long string of play now games and recording your stats in a notebook like old times.
I have no opinion on how this compares to other games (because I don't play them), so I don't have anything to add there.Chicago Cubs | Chicago Bulls | Green Bay Packers | Michigan WolverinesComment

Just my opinion, but I think you're giving them way too much credit for on-the-field stuff under the guise of 'franchise mode' stuff.

Well you are very right about how I record my experiences and express my storylines in long form posts. No doubt about it. But that is how I franchise and hope it does inspire others to enjoy the game that way.
They absolutely have plenty they can improve with what they already have. I think we all agree they don’t need to reinvent the wheel. They need to refine what is already there and hopefully also add some more depth.
I agree with KB about the radio show. It can be so much more with Hot Stove, trade rumors, call ups, hot and cold streaks. It is there to be refined and expanded.
No question.

Re: Lack of attention to franchise mode..thoughts?
That is my biggest issue with The Show franchise, it just don't feel like it is connected at all imo, yes there is some good dynamic commentary and osd shown during games but it still mainly focuses on the current game or series. I would like to see alot more of those league leaders and division standings screen's more often and also from the other league.
If a screen or menu option was added that gave a overview of the days results that also showed a few of the top hitters from each team along with any other notables like injuries and milstones/records and not just the winning/losing pitcher like the todays game section in the calendar currently does, 19 would be a instant day one purchase for me.
But as it stands now i have to go troll through each teams box score to find any meaningful stats about the days games.
Unless you get lucky and something interesting might actually be mentioned on the radio show but with how often great games and milestones from my teams players are never mentioned i would guess it misses alot of cool stuff happening around the league.
I also miss the old hot/cold/hitting streak screen that was in before it changed to just the top hitters/pitchers and then removed in 18.Comment

Turn commentary off.
It will be weird at first, but you will get used to it within 5 to 10 games. I first did it because I found the caster's yakking in my ear every at bat way to distracting. Initially I wished I could just turn it off for my at bats, but soon enough I was hooked an "on the field" audio experience. But it didn't end there.
Soon enough I was adding my own commentary from my head. It was just a natural thing that evolved, and although it's not as intuitive as hearing the voice in your ear, my fantasy commentary was far more dynamic and interesting.
Playing Jays games, I can hear Buck Martinez's voice in my head as I play. I know it's a stretch, and not for everyone, but after watching the streams one of the biggest things that stuck out to me was how much worse of an experience it is with the commentary on. It's just so dry and canned vs the commentary I imagine in my head.Comment

Re: Lack of attention to franchise mode..thoughts?
I don't get into detail about the franchise than a lot of people do. If you're one of those people that's perfectly fine. I do not do a 32 team control. I'm just like to select my lineup and play the game. I do like the fact contracts will be correct this year. I just don't get caught up in all the intricacies in the game. You give me a game with great gameplay and I will play the hell out of it, especially baseball video games. SCEA does a great job with gameplay. It has improved every year.
