I'm completely with Armor on the presentation. I'll be very dissapointed if Heidi and the new camera angles aren't carried over from MtO. Those changes plus the new defensive changes would push me off the fence.

The thing that pops in my head. I doubt that they talk about every little tweak they made to the mode in the stream. I imagine it’s going to be much like the Moments/DD stream where they focused more than half the time on the new mode.
We could wind up finding a bunch of little tweaks they don’t talk about after the game launches. Maybe I’m being overly optimistic but it’s just something to bear in mind.

Re: Lack of attention to franchise mode..thoughts?
There are going to be so many questions about franchise mode and I am sure whatever they added, improved will be talked about. Also all the presentation elements in March To October should be present in franchise mode in terms of dynamic storylines that your team naturally has as opposed to canned like in March to October. I am excited about the presentation aspect and what is in store tonight.
So much doom and gloom......and I get it, not much has changed in terms of a big wow....but the mode has played better each cycle than the previous for me in terms of AI tuning.
Hopefully more tuning was done with AI, lineups, pitching changes, contracts, etc.
I use to play a ton of High Heat baseball on the PC in the late 90's and early 00's. I use to love to play 50 game seasons and knock out a bunch of years in it's franchise. I never understood why the show didn't offer variable season lengths. However, I dont think I'd use smaller seasons even if they added it in. Ive just come to love the full season and chasing stats that are based on 162 games. Again, Y2Y saves has totally changed this aspect for me.Comment

Re: Lack of attention to franchise mode..thoughts?
This is where I am.
Look I understand the want and desire for expansion, create a stadium, relocation, and things of that nature, but for me the first thing I want them to do is fix/tune/expand what they already have in the game.
The draft needs to be flushed out. Way to basic. Managers/Coaches need to have an impact on the game and be their own person instead of just a face in the dugout and part of the equation when it comes to players rising/falling attributes. Training needs to be flushed out as well, again too basic. All-star game selections need to be tuned/re-balanced. Player cards need to be expanded to include a tab that shows individual player awards and successes. Injuries need to be expanded upon so they have lingering effects.
So many "little" fixes would go a long way to the quality of life of this mode.
Why can't they fix those things AS WELL AS adding in all the other stuff you mentioned? There shouldn't be a "we can only have one fix every year" way of thinking around here with this game. This is literally the only game franchise SDS has worked on since 2017. They should be able to flesh out existing things in Franchise and include expansion, stadium creation and a multitude of other things. Grab some people who are working on Diamond Dynasty or that silly Moments mode and throw them on the Franchise team for a cycle. Bring Franchise back to a "back of the box" feature instead of just keeping it around as a courtesy and barely doing anything to it for 3 years.
We've become complacent about allowing them to just to do "under the hood" and "little fixes and tweaks" and stuff like that because it's all they've done since '16 came out.
Just seeing someone do a correct hook slide or the ability to adjust defensive positioning on the fly shouldn't be something that makes us buy a new game.
Their tag line for this game is "the little things" and I'm beginning to wonder if that's just all some of you expect from them every year. Personally I wouldn't be very enthused about franchise in '19 if all they did was fix All Star voting so it wasn't awful, adjust player cards so they had more info and change the splash screen. If you want stuff like that, go play the spectacular OOTP baseball. Unfortunately, stuff even smaller than that is probably all that's going to be fixed and I won't be buying this game for another year because of it. Re: Lack of attention to franchise mode..thoughts?
What I am seeing too much of is “the only way this game should be” type posting. This game will never be a text sim (OOTP). I have OOTP 19. Brilliant front office and manager mode game.
Totally different approach because well.....you are not actually playing, you are watching. If I were a MOM player OOTP is all I would ever play.
While true, I think a lot of what OOTP does is just what a solid franchise mode does, both on and off the field.
I'm not expecting The Show to give me a full open, living world where things change and literally anything can happen. I fully expect to see things in my Year 26 save in OOTP19 vs my Year 17 save in The Show.
But I think a lot of the nuance it captures could and should fit in the scope of The Show's franchise mode and it's created a lot of stories organically instead of just in my head (and on franchise reports here), especially for the other 29 teams I do nothing to because I want organic stories to play out.
I know OOTP will be my first-and-foremost game. That doesn't mean I can't want more nuance and personality within what The Show does and less all-or-nothing, yes-or-no type systems like with positions."Some people call it butterflies, but to him, it probably feels like pterodactyls in his stomach." --Plesac in MLB18Comment

Re: Lack of attention to franchise mode..thoughts?
Honestly, I'm tired of this way of thinking around here and I think it's a small reason why we never get franchise updated.

I was just posting my "personal wishlist" you can say. If they add expansion/relocation/create a stadium, or they don't, I honestly don't care. If its there I'm sure I'll check it out and maybe use it, but if they don't, its not going to make me stop buying the game.
That was all that I was trying to convey in that post.I can't shave with my eyes closed, meaning each day I have to look at myself in the mirror and respect who I see.
I miss the old days of Operation Sports :(

Re: Lack of attention to franchise mode..thoughts?
But here is the skinny. If they simply add the ability to pick the length of your season to franchise mode you can play it like season mode. Season mode was franchise light. Don't want to deal with AA and AAA? Don't want to scout and draft? No problem. Set it to auto and just handle your big league club.
Hopefully for you season mode lovers they can add back that ability to choose the number of games you play in a season to franchise mode. And I think it will solve that itch for the old season mode.Comment

Re: Lack of attention to franchise mode..thoughts?
As I mentioned in the Season mode thread. It looks like MLB is on the brink of announcing new roster and rule changes that will drastically change the game starting in 2020.
That announcement alone will force the game developers to have to make Franchise a priority because they will have to completely overhaul it from the ground up to incorporate the changesLast edited by DodgerFanatic2K3; 03-07-2019, 05:08 PM.Comment

Re: Lack of attention to franchise mode..thoughts?
The lack of upgrades to franchise, really burns my bunions! I can't eat. I can't sleep. And I'm watching way too much Eskimo porn. I can only hope SDS will hear my cries for help, and make the pain go away.
Seriously though, it's a business. I understand it. Yet, I still prefer otherwise. It's a very good game. But, has the potential to be amazing. And, it was at one time. However, committing time and resources to franchise, doesn't really move the needle for SDS very much, in regards to sales. As an offline franchise guy, it's disappointing. I've come to learn that there are countless things in life, in which I have no control. This is just another.

Re: Lack of attention to franchise mode..thoughts?
Well, it got a full minute of time dedicated to it in the streams, 3 very small features were announced, one of which has the potential to completely break the game if not implemented correctly (which considering it's apparently not even done yet and wasn't addressed at all, seems very possible) so yeah, I think it's safe to say franchise mode has lacked attention this year.
At least a lot of the presentation stuff designed for other modes also applies to franchise as well as the improved gameplay, so at least the whole "rising tide raises all boats" line applies, but in terms of actual dedicated franchise development, this is probably the least they've ever done by the sounds of things.Comment

Re: Lack of attention to franchise mode..thoughts?
The developers are great and they obviously try to produce a great game every year but franchise deserved better.
Contracts are an improvement but on the stream Goldschmidt signs an extension with the Cards in July. IRL if Goldschmidt hasn't signed by then he is going to choose free agency.
Still a fantastic game but franchise has a long list of needed improvements and clean ups which appear to have been overlooked so they could produce March to October.
Perhaps improved gameplay will make up for the lack of attention to the rest of franchise. I'll still buy the game but I'd by lying if I said this isn't a bit of a letdown.≡Comment
