Re: MLB The Show 19 Franchise Discussion Thread

Guys, sorry for my ignorance, but is it possible for a young player (18-23) to increase their potential, or are they stuck with going no higher than what's listed? Example. If a kid has D potential, can he become a C, or even B, or is he stuck going no higher than D?

2019 Cardinals Legend alumni/ present day stars hybrid franchise

Thought I’d add some background to this ongoing adventure for those that might follow. First off I play every game but Quick Count most. I do play occasional big games every pitch, but not as a rule except for playoffs. Assuming I make it. I use dynamic difficulty that presently resides between HOF and AS pitching, and AS/ Vet hitting. Just started playing MLBTS last year but I’m consistently improving. I do not do 30 team control and kept trades active as well as free agent signings, because like some others here I enjoy the occasional crazy moves that shake things up. However I myself will not initiate any trade for “My” specific organization, but will consider any and all offers made to me. Kind of my own house rule. Also I left budgets on because I am seriously considering playing this out for additional seasons. I believe it will be VERY interesting to see how all these superstar and legend players get dispersed throughout the league. How clubs wind up prioritizing who to keep. How some of these crazy talented players fit in else where. There has already been some absolute jaw dropping deals. My nemesis Cubs traded Rizzo to the Yankees for Sanchez early in the season. It’s hard to rationalize that move, especially if you see how stacked the Yankees are at 1st base. And the Cubs were far from lacking at catcher. BUT......With Posada being the everyday backstop in NY, Sanchez was irrelevant. And the Cubs had “Catchers”, but not a Sanchez! He’s been on fire and all but completely shuts down the only couple base stealers I have in Ozzie and Lou. So frustrating! That’s just the most relevant to my particular team. There’s been many other moves that have been intriguing to say the least.

A’s traded Olson to the Brewers for Hader, plus signed Kimbrel off free agency. And this is a team that already has Treinen, Rollie Fingers and Ekersley in the back of their bullpen. Not to mention Vida Blue and Catfish Hunter as starters. Better get a lead early and have your own staff that can shut down Henderson, Giambi, Davis and oh yeah, others like Piscotty and the rest. Wow! Tough league to be a rookie in haha.

The Rays traded Pham to the Dodgers for Seager. Pham and Bellinger platoon right field in LA!

The Giants signed Keuchel, but have had multiple big name injuries, most notably Mays for 2 months.

I’ll stop there for now but there’s just SOOOO many fascinating storylines being created I wanted to at least share a couple. Maybe I’ll share a little about my Cardinal family and their eventful journey in this “baseball heaven” type reality next. I’m headed to Seattle now for a 3 game set against Griffey Jr, Edgar Martínez and Ichiros gang of hero’s! Never a boring series here lol

Just got swept by the Marlins at Wrigley. Absolutely brutal. I’m 17-19 on the year now and just can’t win.

I had a 5-4 lead going into the ninth in the fourth game of the series but after a leadoff walk Pedro Stop allowed a two run homer to give the Marlins the lead. Of course they tack on another run to take a 7-5 lead.

I load the bases in the bottom of the ninth with three walks but a strikeout by Kris Bryant and a fly out by Baez with the bases loaded ensures that I lose all four games to Miami.

I ended up starting a Blue Jays franchise (obviously) and just got through spring training. I've got a few questions about player development in the game though, with Vlad Jr, should I start him in the majors or in Triple A? He's only 75 overall right now but he's got A potential so I don't want to mess him up, same with Bichette, now he's only 66 so I'm going to assume it's Double A or Triple A for him. What's a good overall to bring players up? I haven't played MLBTS since maybe 15 because I had gotten an Xbox, so this is my first game in a couple of years. Also, last question. What difficult should I start out on? I was thinking dynamic since it progresses once you get better, but it seemed too easy at the start.

Thanks for the answers in advance, looking forward to sharing my experience with you!
In regards to Vlad Jr and Bichette, I would play through Spring Training and see how they do. If they are playing well, then I'd place them in the majors. If they are average at best, I'd put them in AAA and see how they do there for maybe a month.

As for difficulty, if you are going to play thru Spring Training, I'd suggest using dynamic difficulty and then let it change based on your games in ST.

If not, I'd recommend starting on All-Star as I think that is a good spot to start.

Well I have been pondering on what kind of franchise to start. After reading all of these and seeing different franchises and how much fun everyone is having with carrying their franchises over. I have decided to start a kind of fantasy one where I made trades to acquire alot of young talent mlb ready players. It's not to crazy and mostly just traded for better pitching for my Cubs but younger pitchers. I will also be starting a real one where I keep all of the current players.

I have to say @countryboy you have really made me want to play multiple years as I read about how your franchise is playing out with all the ups and downs.

I will be posting the rosters and much more soon on both of my franchises.

Quick question since 84 pages is quite a lot to read and hopefully this isn't to broad of a question but us franchise mode more in depth at all then last year?

I liked most aspects of the game but franchise seemed to be heavily lacking in terms of depth and (for me) I got quickly bored with it. Is it more of the same this year or has it noticeably improved?

Welp, my 2025 Cubs are sitting at 42-36 now. Avoided the 4 game sweep by Cincy with a 10-8 win and took game one of a 2 game series with Houston 12-5. Still 3.5 out of first in the last week of June.

Just kinda of a uniform tweak for me....Ive decided to make Stance socks a standard uniform look for my cubs mid way thru 2025. I'm almost about to make it a league wide look.

It is essentially the same as it was last year.

                    The additions this year were:

                    * In season contract extensions
                    * Real life contracts

I personally think in game is better than last year which makes playing much more enjoyable.

“The Story of a Dream” (begins)

Far in the distant future, dreams of time travel are no longer fiction. Humanity has not only solved the simplest aspects, but figured out how to break certain quantum rules by containing the changes in one separated reality outside of times normal flow. Allowing duplicate versions of the same people from different times in their lives to exist simultaneously. Also allowing buildings and structures from separate eras to be present at one time. ( yeah I know time travel leaves tons of plot gaps if analyzed too much lol. Just trust me, in this universe it happened ha) Humanity in desperate need of new entertainment decided to reach into its past to reinvent one of its all time favorite pastimes. The sport responsible for single handedly establishing world peace! That’s right BASEBALL!!! Only they decided they would do it better than ever, and invite the greatest players from throughout all history to play along side the last generation of baseballs great teams that unfortunately all perished in the “Great War”! (Gotta finish plugging some plot gaps, sorry lol). The winning players in the organization of each season, would spend the entire off season treated like kings in any reality of their choosing. Furthermore the representative city of that organization in the “original “ universe would be unknowingly spoiled with a special surprise voted on by the winners. The only stipulations necessary for this universe to exist is that the players brought, MUST be willing participants. This of course was no issue for those that knew they were days from perishing anyway. But not all invites from every team wanted to leave what they knew as home. This is the story of those that did, and the crazy adventure that would follow, told from the perspective of a single team (the Cardinals). Hope you all enjoy!

Next up* “Let the Spring begin

Hopefully that’s all for the sci-fi part of explaining lol

Re: MLB The Show 19 Franchise Discussion Thread

After sweeping Baltimore, the Yankees continued their hot streak as they proceeded to win 8 of their next 10 games against the Rays, Orioles, and Royals. The only 2 losses of that stretch came against the Rays and Royals. We now have a comfortable lead in the AL East sitting at 36-17 with the second place Red Sox behind us by 9 games.

We made an early risky deal acquiring a struggling expensive Matt Kemp from the Cincinnati Reds for RP Nestor Cortes JR and (to make the money work) 2B Brandon Phillips. The Reds have promoted top prospect Nick Senzel to take his place. The Yankees will absorb the remainder of Kemp’s 13M salary for this season. If Kemp’s bat doesn’t come around this deal could prove costly as it doesn’t leave much financial wiggle room for further acquisitions.

This move may seem strange to some as we don’t exactly have a hole in the OF. For the time being, we will now be carrying 6 OF’s, though Kemp isn’t really a guy you ever want to see playing the OF. The majority of his playing time will likely come from the DH spot, and we’ll look to have his bat in the lineup as much as possible. He will immediately take over the #2 spot in the lineup behind lead off man LeMahieu, bumping Judge to #3. A lot of trust to put in a struggling player. This will push Judge or Frazier into CF on some days.

The other big news out of NY, is that we have officially parted ways with Ellsbury, announcing his release a day ago. After a poor start at AAA and what remains of his skills immediately starting to decline we decided to move on. We save a few million at max this year, next year is where it pays off big time. We now only owe him 8.1M next year instead of 21M. This could be the end for Ellsbury’s career.

Next up is a series at home against the 28-25 SD Padres. After that, Boston arrives for a 4 game set. The draft is in 9 days.

                          Stories From Around The League:

Monster Year In The Making For Anthony Rendon?
To say Rendon is going off this year would be an understatement. With almost 2 months complete, he owns a line of 367/482/733. 16 HR’s and 41 RBI’s. He also happens to be a FA at the end of the year. A lot of games left to go, but he may be setting himself up for a monster payday. Harper who?

                          Rays Crumble At Wrong Time.
After remaining hot on the Yankees heels, the Rays have fallen apart lately dropping 9 of their last 10. They have also lost 5 games to the Yankees this month. They now sit 10 games behind.
