Re: MLB The Show 19 Franchise Discussion Thread
You know, I initially was going to, but then I got another message pop-up and I was afraid that he might get further injury of some sort, or just perform really poorly due to the injury. So I just sat him for a week and let Wieters get some playing time.Streaming all 162 games of my MLB 22 Franchise on Twitch! Come hang out!

Re: MLB The Show 19 Franchise Discussion Thread
I’ve asked this on another slider thread, but I’m curious where most of you franchise guys rank in strikeouts this year? It’s been widely discussed but I’m just interested to see where you rank.
I’m currently 25th in the league and have been struggling terribly the past 4-5 games to get more than 5 strikeouts in a game.

2022 Cardinals face new challenge in June
The calendar says June. In the baseball world, that means that teams have had time to evaluate what they have, strengths, weaknesses, and for those all in for a race to October, determine what they need. The Cardinals are going through that process right now. But this year is different than it has been in years past. This year, the Cardinals face a new challenge. This year, the Cardinals weakness is an area that has been a strength for the past 6 years..starting pitching.
In the past the Cardinals could always count on dominant starting pitching to be the backbone of the club as the catalyst to get them to October. Bullpen was a very close second. This year however, starting pitching seems to be the most inconsistent and weakest area on the team. The bullpen is solid. The everyday lineup is loaded and very well balanced (when healthy). Their bench consists of multiple All-Star selection and sure fire future Hall of Famer, Matt Carpenter. But starting pitching, which coming into the season seemed to again be the strength and backbone of the 2022 club, has been anything but a strength.
Early in the season the Cardinals parted ways with Mike Leake who struggled after having a great 2021 season, earning 13 wins with a sub 4 ERA. But the Cardinals would still have Michael Wacha, Carlos Martinez, Jack Flaherty, and Alex Reyes to anchor the rotation while they searched within the organization for a No 5 starter. Turns out, their No 5 starter, Drew Harrington, is arguably, no not arguably, IS the second best pitcher in the rotation as of today. No 1? Jack Flaherty. Michael Wacha may take one of those two spots when he returns from the IL around the All-Star Break.
Jack Flaherty got off to a rough start but is currently 5-2 with a 3.25 ERA. His WHIP is 1.23 and he's averaging 8.9 strikeouts per 9 innings. He is easily the ace of the staff right now.
Drew Harrington has lost his last two decisions, due to being snake bit by the long ball, but he's currently 4-2 with a 4.74 ERA. His WHIP is 1.32 and is averaging 6.2 strikeouts per 9 innings. It gets ugly after this.
Luke Weaver has been serviceable in his time with the big league club. Weaver is currently 2-1 with a 4.50 ERA (it was over 6 until last two starts) and he's averaging 9.2 strikeouts per 9 innings.
The two guys who had aspirations of being the Ace of the staff, Martinez and Reyes have been anything but consistent/good this year.
Carlos Martinez started off hot. He started the year 5-0 with a mid 3 ERA. Now...Martinez is 6-4 with a 5.03 ERA. His WHIP is 1.43 and his strikeouts per 9 has dropped to 5.1 (previously 7.9) He's 1-3 in his last 4 starts with an ERA of 8.56. He's allowed 11 walks and 6 homeruns over the past 4.
Alex Reyes has been Mr. Inconsistent the entire year. After going 13-6 last year with a 3.61 ERA, Reyes is 3-7 in 12 starts this year. His ERA is 5.91, his WHIP is 1.83, and he's only pitched 64 innings in 12 starts. In those 64 innings, he's allowed 86 hits, given up 8 homeruns, walked 31 batters, and has only 37 strikeouts.
Miles Mikolas has only pitched 2 innings in St.Louis, as he was pulled with an injury is his one and only start. Depending on what the Cardinals do roster wise, he may get another shot.
I don't know where the Cardinals turn. The Starting pitching market isn't strong this year, and therefore the available arms have high return asking prices attached to them. The Cardinals did inquire with the Rockies for Kyle Freeland but nothing materialized and likely won't. Tajuan Walker of the Mariners is available but he's having a very poor season himself.
The Cardinals could look to within the organization. They have Mikolas, Kyle Funkhouser, and Junior Fernandez available to them. Austin Gomber is working back from injury but he's available as well. As previously mentioned, they do have Michael Wacha returning within 4 weeks, which could provide a shot in the arm for the rotation.
Whatever path they choose, it will be foreign, as the Cardinals haven't faced this challenge in the last several years. It's always been next man up due to injuries and when healthy, they presented one of the best rotations in the majors. This year, its nowhere near the best. And if the Cardinals have aspirations of playing in October for the 7th straight season, and even moreso, a return trip to the World Series, they had better figure out how to get this average at best rotation back to one of the best in baseball.I can't shave with my eyes closed, meaning each day I have to look at myself in the mirror and respect who I see.
I miss the old days of Operation Sports :(

2022 White Sox Franchise - Game 1 ALDS
Game 1 of the ALDS is in the books with the White Sox coming away with a 10-5 victory over the Orioles.
Baltimore scored first in the 2nd on a Mason McCoy RBI single to take 1-0 lead but would not last long as Yoenis Cespedes doubled in 2 runs for the Sox in the bottom of the 3rd. Sox would add on 2 more in the 4th, one on a Jeremy Ramirez double and the other on Charlie Tilson's RBI fielders choice. Sox weren't done as the added 4 more in the 5th with RBI singles by Eloy Jimenez, Kyle Seager, and Luther Hightower bracketing a Jeremy Ramirez RBI ground out to push the Chicago lead to 8-1 after 5. Orioles added one in the 7th on a Chance Sisco RBI single and then added a 3 run Homer by Manny Machado in the 8th. The White Sox would put 2 more in the 8th on Yoenis Cespedes RBI Single and a RBI Ground out by Eloy Jimenez to put lead to 10-5 where it would stand.
Quick recap of Game 1 below.Attached FilesLast edited by CHIBHAWKSRULE; 05-11-2019, 10:55 AM.Comment
