Re: MLB The Show 19 Franchise Discussion Thread
I've been thinking about how to get through a season in about a few weeks or at least make it where i would have to struggle to get 85+ wins.
I was planning on playing roughly 1 out of every 3 games and if i win 3 games in a row on a difficulty starting with rookie hitting and all star pitching I will up the hitting difficulty. If i feel like i'm not giving up enough runs i'll up the pitching difficulty. if i lose 3 in a row i will lower the difficulty.
the rest of the games i will quick manage. Also unsure of the sliders i will be using.Comment

MLB The Show 19 Franchise Discussion Thread
After losing 6 in a row 7 of the last 10, my 2019 Dodgers break through with 5-2 win on the road over the Brewers. We are now sitting at 32-15 with a 4 game lead over the Giants in the West.
Seager homered (4) twice driving in 3 runs. Dylan Floro picked up the win (3) coming in to relieve an injured Kershaw in the 5th. Jansen picked up his 16th save of the season. After struggling to get hits over the 10 game stretch the Dodgers tallied 14.
Rich Hill (0-2, 4.24) will take Kershaw’s place on the mound if he hasn’t worked on his back stiffness by the time his next start comes around.
Called up lefty MRP Scott Alexander to give me some depth and give me a southpaw in the bullpen with Hill moving to the rotation.
I plan on doing a more in depth update once we close out the month of May.

Re: MLB The Show 19 Franchise Discussion Thread
I’m a big yankee fan and always go back and forth when starting a franchise with either the yanks or a team that needs rebuilding. I’m worried that this year the yanks will just be so offensively dominant it won’t be fun. Anyone playing with them still find it challenging please let me know your thoughts. ThanksComment

Cardinals and Matt Carpenter to part ways
Matt Carpenter and the Cardinals will be parting ways this Spring, as the career long Cardinal will either finish his career with another team or will hang up his spikes. The Cardinals informed Carpenter that he will not be part of the opening day roster. The Cardinals felt they owed Carpenter not only a chance to make the roster, but if not, a chance to maybe find a new team while Spring Training was going on so he could have a chance with a new organization.
Matt Carpenter had a stellar 2021 season until he broke his shin late in the season. He returned for the playoffs but was ineffective. This Spring, Carpenter is 0 for 13 at the plate, with 5 strikeouts and has 2 fielding errors.
The decision for the Cardinals front office is to see if there is a market to trade Carpenter or if they will just outright release him and let him determine where he wants to go.I can't shave with my eyes closed, meaning each day I have to look at myself in the mirror and respect who I see.

Re: MLB The Show 19 Franchise Discussion Thread
My initial plan for my first run at Franchise this year - rolled over a a newly started chise in 18 that has updated contracts, player movements, but also includes a roster with the Top 100 or so prospects. (Looked pretty good to me with brief glance over - )
I simmed all of "2018" and plan on playing the playoffs through with the Yankees, before starting out the next season by mostly controlling the Marlins. (Love the updated logo/unis).
Playoffs are pretty interesting:
Yankees and Cardinals were each the 1 seeds. Yankees finished 102-60, Cards 99-63
Wild Card games: LAA (94-68) vs. Boston (93-69), Washington (90-72) vs. Cubs (91-71)
LAA beat Boston, Cubs beat the Nats (sorry Washington!)
ALDS:
Cleveland vs. Houston
NYY vs. LAA
NLDS:
Phillies vs. LAD
Cubs vs. Cardinals
Played the first ALDS game with the Yankees last night. Won 2-0 behind an absolute gem from Severino. Was an 0-0 game through 6, but in the 7th I rallied and had a couple of big base hits from Didi and Gary, driving in two runs and giving us the edge we needed.
Excited to play games 2 and 3 later!
I jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the first, and had Paxton going, so was feeling pretty good. But then I allowed a run in the second, and in the third Trout came up and smacked a 2-run go ahead homer to give the Angels a 3-2 lead.
Fast forward to the 5th, and after 2 quick outs and an Aaron Judge single, Giancarlo comes up with his biggest hit as a Yankee yet - a 2-run bomb to right to give us the lead. I tacked on another 2 in the 7th with big hits from Didi and Gary to drive in runs and felt super comfortable going into the final two frames up 6-3...
That was until, the 8th. Brought in Betances, who after allowing two base runners, got Trout (gulp) to pop out to first. I then had to face Justin Upton. Started off 2-0 in the at-bat, and then made a mistake and groooved a fastball to him, which he promptly deposited over the CF wall. Tie game, 6-6. Huge homerun for the Angels.
I thought I might be doomed, especially as the very next inning, I brought in Chad Green, who promptly surrendered a go-ahead homer to Ohtani on a hanging slider. (Dont know why I hang and groove pitches on 2-0!)
Down 7-6 entering the 9th, I manage to lead off the inning with a double from Andujar. A hard single from Didi puts runners on the corners, but I manage to strike out and pop out next two batters. Finally brings Voit to the plate (yes, I have him batting like 8th in this crazy lineup), and he smashes a single into right on the first pitch to drive home Andujar and tie the game up.
Fast forward to my turn in the 10th - I get a couple guys on base and with 1 out, Andujar steps to the plate and LAUNCHES a double deep into the left center field gap. Ball game! One of the best (and most grueling) games I've ever played! Up 2-0 on the series now.Comment

Re: MLB The Show 19 Franchise Discussion Thread
I tried it in 17 or whenever it first came out and didn't like it too much but maybe i'll give it another shot. I usually do 30 team control but only use the Pirates. I like to make sure the CPU doesn't do any dumb trades or if there is a trade in real life to make sure it gets done. I will probably turn injuries on. I simmed to the offseason of one to check it out and i couldn't control myself signing FA like Bumgarner and Rizzo. I can technically afford them but that isn't necessarily a pirates offseason move.Comment

Re: MLB The Show 19 Franchise Discussion Thread
After doing my roster I finally started my fantasy Braves franchise.
Usually I will play some spring training games to get a feel for the game, but this year just jumped into opening day. I put the game on VET/VET. I didn't want to get crushed on my usual AS/AS, or HOF/HOF in my first go around.
ATL 7 11 0
PHI 1 4 0
Hit 3 home runs (directional/center swing and 2 doubles, one going over Harpers head).
Harper struck out three times....doh! I struck out 7 times and drew 3 walks.
Certainly I want more of a challenge, so i'll move it up to AS/AS next game (long season), but the game played great.
Oh, I bunted with my pitcher. Last year, 99.999999% of the time it would have been a rocket bunt down to first base. This year a lazy bunt in the air short hopped by the 3rd baseman, so that was nice to see.
Announcers are off, stadium sounds are great, have a few SOTS in the game, and especially in between innings music, so good to go. 30 team control, will make the daily moves, back in the saddle.
I will probably make better use of QUICK MANAGE this year and jump into the game in crucial times.
If they patch the pre-pitch presentation into the quick pitch mode, it will be heavenly (this has been passed onto the the dev), so we'll see.Comment

Re: MLB The Show 19 Franchise Discussion Thread
Opened the season with a sweep of the Phillies, but it wasn't like I was just shooting lame ducks. I had earned those wins and when that happens I just want to jump into the next. I was feeling really good after three games, more ready to face the Cubs than I guess I thought I'd be.
In the home opener, Teheran just worked. Absolutely carved up the Cubbies while on the flip side of the coin I chased Quintana before five.
I got the win, but the game broke my heart for the first time. After a tense 9-pitch AB to Schwarber, I noticed I had a perfect game going into the 7th. Usually when this happens I tense up and overthink my pitches too much and leave one fat, but I listened to my catcher and glided to the 9th.
First pitch of the 9th, capper to shallow right. One down. Contreras battled me hard to the point where I thought fatigue would lead to me grooving one, but I got him with the changeup low/away and fastball up and in combo for K #15. One out away.
And then...

Of course it was Jason Heyward. It had to be. Who else?
------------------
I think now is a good time to enact my sim strategy after playing out to a 4-0 start. I figured I'd always play game one, then if I win manage game two and jump in anytime after the 6th if it's a four run game or less either way (kinda like March to October). I lose game one I'll play two and manage three.
For two game sets I'll just play the first and manage the second, and for four game sets I'll follow the three game plan just with an extra game mixed in.Last edited by Watson; 03-29-2019, 01:12 PM.And may thy spirit live in us, Forever LSU
