Wasn't feeling very good about this one, down 4-1 with two outs in the top of the eighth. But somehow I pulled it off. Good win against a Cardinals team that's been on a tear. I'm now tied with them for the division lead as we both sit at 31-25 o the year. I've taken all four games against the Cardinals so far and I feel like my luck may be about to run out... possibly sooner rather than later.

Re: MLB The Show 19 Franchise Discussion Thread

With a week until the trade deadline, the 2025 Cubs continue to make their move. We now sit with a 59-43 record and hold 5.5 game lead. Bryce Harper continues his torrid pace and currently sit with a .326 ave, 37 Hrs and 105 knocked in. He's still slugging at an outstanding .745 pace.

It also appears that Kris Bryant is making his move to capture his career averages. He has been stupid hot lately and has his average up to a seasonal high of .284. He's currently second in the NL in Hrs with 33 and has knocked in 84. He spent basically the entire first half of the season in the .250's. His 2025 season kinda reminds me of my all time favorite guy Ryne Sandberg's 1989 season. There really wasn't a hotter guy on the planet late July thru September in 1989 as Ryno had his first 30 Homerun season and helped lead the Cubbies to the NL east crown. He finished with a .290 ave but was closer to a .330 average done the stretch.

2022 White Sox Franchise - Game 1 World Series

Game 1 with Micahel Kopech on the mound for the Sox and Aaron Nola for the Phils.

White Sox would take early lead in the 2nd inning on a Kyle Seager solo homer.

Phils would score 2 in the 4th on RBI single by Maikel Franco to take a 2-1 lead.

Sox would answer right back tho in the bottom half with 2 runs of there own. One on a Mike Moustakas error followed by a RBI ground out by Jeremy Ramirez. 3-2 Sox

Charlie Tilson would add a RBI single in the 7th to push lead to 4-2 Sox.

            Trade front news:

With just a couple days remaining before the deadline moves are still being made. Here are the 2 most notable since the last update:

Texas grabs powerhouse 1st baseman Jesus Aguilar from Brewers for young outfielder Bubba Thompson! This was definitely an area Texas needed to fill and should improve them immediately.

Philadelphia is obviously all in with their attempt to make a run now and still has all guns blazing! They acquire yet another quality OF Byron Buxton from the Twins for a hefty price in my opinion. SS Scott Kingery, 2B Daniel Brito and RP Yaksel Rios go to the Twins. All young high potential prospects but not necessarily big needs position wise for Minnesota. Guessing the sheer lopsided volume made it hard for the Twins to say no. Philadelphia is more than stacked in the outfield now and Ashburn will return before the end of the season. But the common theme seems to be speed and defense in their moves. Realmuto went down early in the season for the entire season, and they’ve gotten decent production from their replacement C Butero, but if the postseason is the goal, I would think they’d be looking to upgrade there. Couple days left so guess we shall see if they decide to address that. Will be interesting regardless to see how these moves pan out regardless in the stretch run!

3 Game home series vs Houston
              July 26-28

              Game 3:

Bagwell strikes again in the 6th with a 2 run shot off Martinez. He’s been quite a presence in this series. Cardinals stranded the bases loaded in the 2nd but again couldn’t come up with that big time hit all game! Let’s hope they get it together quick as the Cub series is next. There’s been some adjustments to the line up, returning Pujols to the RHP platoon 1st baseman. (Essentially meaning majority of work). The Cards also brought Tyler O’Neil up from Memphis in a move that sent Jose Martinez down, wanting to add another true speed guy off the bench and solid late game defender as an option. The Cubs have their ace Prior slated to start game 1 but the Cards have not yet announced theirs debating whether to hold Gibson or let the aces duel! This feels like such a must win series for St. Louis and Shildt has said he just wants to put them in the best position to do just that. “Anyone that’s watched our team over the last few series is not worrying about the pitching matchup as much as which offense decides to show up!” Said Shildt. Time to see what kinda moxy this team has! PLAY BALL!

2022 Chicago White Sox Franchise - Game 2 World Series

Omar Salgado on the mound for the White Sox and Zach Eflin for the Phillies in Game 2.

Game 2 was a complete pitchers duel. Only run for either team was on a Jose Abreu RBI ground out in the first inning and ever since hitters were pretty much shut down. Sox take it 1-0.

Re: MLB The Show 19 Franchise Discussion Thread

Cardinals could be sellers at deadline as well as all in on the playoffs

With a week until the calendar flips to July and teams start making the decision (if they haven't already) as to whether to be buyers or sellers come the trade deadline, the Cardinals could be sellers while being fully committed to making the playoffs.

The Cardinals currently sit 7 games out of first in the Central division but sit just a game out of the wildcard (Cubs & Reds ahead). The NL East is essentially out of the wildcard race as the Marlins lead that division with a .500 record. The Phillies are last just 5 games out. The West could put a team in (D'Backs, Dodgers, or Padres) as the Dodgers are just 4 out of the wildcard spot and the Padres 4 1/2.

So the Cardinals sit in a position where they have a legit shot at the playoffs. But they also sit in a spot where they are a losing streak away from essentially being out of reach for the Central Division crown. The front office has stated that they are all in on a run for the playoffs and are looking over the landscape on how to better the team (ahem...pitching). But they have also stated that they have a few veteran players they are willing to part with at the deadline should they receive the right return price of prospects.

Those vets the Cardinals have "dangled":

                    SS Paul DeJong
                    * Already optioned to Memphis. With Munoz and Albies controlled and Tulo here now, the chances of DeJong remaining on this club after July are slim and none. Unless he's an insurance policy to the oft injured Tulo.

                    OF Kyle Waldrop
                    OF Tommy Pham
                    * These two can be lumped as they just don't have a spot unless they are willing to be role players, which neither is. Waldrop is in Memphis now and not happy. Pham was lucky to be brought back and then almost traded prior to June. Don't expect either to be on the club next year.

1B Matt Carpenter (this one hurts)
                    * He was already gone. Got released by the Braves and was reacquired. Really doesn't fit on the bench and his chances of being the everyday 1B this year or beyond are slim. Possibly kept as an insurance policy for Singleton, and the fact he's a lifelong Cardinal, but he could be dealt.

                    IF Greg Garcia
                    * In Memphis now. The expectation that he'll be in St.Louis prior to September call up is slim. Be a good bench/role player for another contending (AL) team.

                    SS Troy Tulowitzki
                    * Would be shocked if traded, but with the addition of Albies, and his injuries (and errors) its not out of the realm of possibility. The return would have to be substantial.

                    SP Miles Mikolas
                    * He deserves to be in a major league rotation. And could very well be in St.Louis with the trade of Alex Reyes, if Weaver or Harrington struggle.

                    RP Dean Kiekhefer
                    RP Andrew Miller
                    * Lump together. Again would be very surprised if either was moved, but its not out of the realm of possibility. Both have had ups and downs this year. Both won't go, but if someone does I'd bet its Miller as opposed to Kiekhefer for age alone.

The Cardinals have made some pre-deadline moves to set up this scenario, primarily the additions of Yairo Munoz and Ozzie Albies. It's not surprising that Albies is going to be the everyday SS next year, despite injury or the front office trading him after a night of partying. In fact, the idea is to lock Albies up for the foreseeable future, and beyond, to the be the everyday shortstop in St.Louis. Something about the name of Ozzie and being a shortstop makes this a necessary move. Yairo Munoz is destined to be the 5th infielder so to speak next year as he'll be relied upon to play in the event of injuries/off days for Wisdom, Albies, and Wong. Brendan McKay is thought to be the front runner to the everyday first baseman next year, but if not, Jon Singleton could be re-signed or Patrick Wisdom moved and Yairo Munoz the everyday 3rd baseman.

It's going to be interesting in July to see what moves, if any, the Cardinals make. They could very well hold firm and not do anything as they have already positioned themselves with early trades. They could trade a few prospects for starting pitching or another reliever (traded Adam Cimber) if they feel the need. If they get back to within 5 before the All-Star break or shortly after, then I can see them being more in line of holding firm or trading prospects. If they continue to play .500 and fall further back in the divisional race and the wildcard race, I could see some names from the list on the move.

These next 2 weeks (pre-All Star break) are going to be pivotal for what the Cardinals do roster wise come the deadline.
I can't shave with my eyes closed, meaning each day I have to look at myself in the mirror and respect who I see.

I miss the old days of Operation Sports :(

Doing a rockies franchise. At like 26-20, chasing the dodgers, 5 games back. Started a series vs. Baltimore lost the first game after jon gray got lit up. Game 2 Charlie blackmon hit for the cycle, and we won the game. Game 3 Charlie hit for the cycle again!

Never have I hit for back to back cycles in the show before, let alone with the same player. Don't think a player has ever actually hit for the cycle in back to back games in the mlb.

Pretty cool moment, especially because the second cycle was instrumental in a pretty decent come from behind win.

Now a 4 game series vs. The D'backs, hopefully make up some ground on the dodgers.

It’s the end of May and Tulo has been placed on waivers. The last game he played in while wearing Pinstripes he went 0-4, dropping his average average to .190, and also made 2 errors. If nobody claims him (doubtful) he will try to figure things out in Triple-A and will probably be a throw-in close to the deadline.

Billy Fleming got the call up, and went 1-3 with 2 RBIs in his debut! We’re currently 40-19 and sit comfortably ontop of the AL East.

                          Game 1:

                          Reyes vs Prior

The Cards decided to Start Reyes in hopes of holding Gibson for the series finale at Sportsman’s Park on Thursday. It was obvious early that Reyes did not bring his good stuff! Allowing a 2 run shot to Billy Williams (leading or at the top of almost every hitting category) in the first inning. Then a 3 run shot to Banks in the third putting them up 5-0! He would not return in the 4th! But the Cards bats would finally wake up and a back and forth battle would ensue that saw the Cardinals chip away and battle back, once the bullpen finally settled in. What an exciting game! Ozzie even hit an inside the park HR! St Louis would tie the game off Closer Lee Smith in the 9th sending it to extra innings. But when Sandburg belted an rbi double into the left field corner giving the Cubs the lead with men on 2nd and 3rd with only 1 out and Williams at the plate, he would get the intentional pass bringing up Banks who proceeded to hit a bases clearing double putting them up by 4. Hicks would work out from there but having completely drained the bench of pinch hitters, he would have to bat after the Birds managed to get 2 on with 1 out in front of him. Strop would finish the game as the Cubs take game 1!

Two games later Charlie almost did it again. Ended up just a single shy of his third cycle in four days. Blackmon is now hitting >.415 on the season with 11 Homer's and 32 driven in. Currently on a 15 game hitting streak. One of the best streaks I've ever had with a player, and it's especially satisfying because I always struggle batting.

The Cardinals split their 4 game weekend series with the Nationals, winning the final two of the series. The Cardinals didn't play bad in the two games lost, but they didn't play great either. In the Saturday and Sunday games, pitching was the dominant factor as the Nats only managed a combined 7 hits in those two games, and only put up 3 runs.

The best news of the weekend was the fact that Carlos Martinez seemed to return to early season form in the Sunday finale as he pitched 6 1/3 innings allowing just 3 hits and 1 run. He fanned 8 hitters and didn't issue a free pass. This is the 2nd start in a row that Martinez has pitched extremely well.

Patrick Wisdom and Harrison Bader were the offensive stars as Bader went 8 for 13 in the series. Wisdom was just 5 for 12 but he drew walks and hit his major league leading 29th and 30th homeruns in the series.

Next up the Cardinals will play a 4 game series with the Phillies, who are starting to feel the effects of being in a rebuilding phase. Jack Flaherty, Miles Mikolas, Drew Harrington, and Luke Weaver will be the starters for the series.

Cards have made Matt Carpenter and Paul DeJong officially available

The Cardinals have informed the other 29 clubs that they are willing to listen to offers on both Matt Carpenter and Paul DeJong. While this may be upsetting to the Cardinal fanbase, its important to note that the Cardinals haven't stated they are actively pursuing a trade for either player, but rather willing to field phone calls/offers to see the current market for both players. DeJong is currently in Memphis as a role player (non-starter) and Carpenter is with the Cards in the same role.

It will be interesting to see what the market is for both DeJong and Carpenter, and especially more interesting if the Cards actually trade either one should they receive the right return investment.
I can't shave with my eyes closed, meaning each day I have to look at myself in the mirror and respect who I see.

I miss the old days of Operation Sports :(
