Re: MLB The Show 19 Franchise Discussion Thread

I'm debating whether I should commit fully to the Marlins rebuild or if I'll become overly frustrated with them (going from playing with the Yankees to the Marlins may be too much of a drop ha).

Wonder if it makes sense to roll with a middling team like the Pirates or something instead. I'll have to check out their roster tonight.

Depends on what makes it worth it for you. If you are looking for significant franchise upgrades and don’t think it’s worth buying every year without that then you might want to skip. Only big improvement franchise got this year is contract extensions. Gameplay is great as always, commentary is mostly the same except for sideline reporter Heidi Watney being added.

I think it’s worth it, gameplay is even better this year in my opinion, less HR’s, more hit variety, defense is better, etc. Presentation is better, Stadium atmosphere is really good this year. Guess it depends if you’re someone that can look past lack of franchise upgrades if things like gameplay are great and keep being improved. Some people see the lack of attention to franchise and decide to skip a year right there.

I struggle with this issue many times when I wanting to start a new franchise...lol...that said, I think your strategy of going for middling team is probably the best

I'm motoring along in year 2024 of my Cubbie's franchise that goes back to MLB 14 on the PS3. I sit at 77-51 (5-4 on MLB 19). I'm eight games up on Pittsburgh and am in line to claim my 10th straight central flag. My 2024 team is middle of the pack hitting. This is a rarity in my personal little Dynastic run (5 WS in 10 years and 5 100 win teams in 10 years). However, we are the number 1 pitching team and Kris Bryant is having an MVP season (.305Ave 37HRs 102RBI in 128 games).

I am going to be starting Year 3 of my 2017 Yankees franchise on 19 but for a new franchise later on this year I was totally planning on a painful and highly challenging rebuild with The Miami Marlins.

So yeah we are talking a 180 degree turn. But I will embrace it and I have a 5 year plan.

Second game, moved up to AS v. AS. Had a 3-2 lead in the 6th. Phils scored 3 runs in the 7th off my relief pitcher starting with a bomb by Herrera.

In the top of the 9th Phils brought in Robertson....K, double, walk, walk and, line out. Acuna struck out on a ball in the dirt......lost 4-3, but it all felt right.

Hit another ball over Harper's head.

Man, there's such a different feel this year.

I feel like they’ve added new injuries. I’ve never had a pitcher pulled in the middle of a game with back soreness until now.

i just revisited dynamic difficulty and now i like it. i lost 3-2 to the Reds opening day. also as far as the contracts go, the payroll takes into account all minor leaguers and stuff so subtract roughly 20-25M off your payroll to get your real payroll. i had signed a few free agents and my payroll was 123M but my MLB Payroll was probably around 100M

Opening day payroll for me after a few trades was 67.2million but the game has it as 84million.

That’s great, glad you found a way that works, I know Dynamic Difficulty was rough (as most things are) when it first was introduced but its gotten a lot better over the years. I also like how you get the in between levels (AS+) which is where i usually fall between more times then not

Lol i feel you man, sometimes i literally put the controller down to avoid the temptation to swing at a borderline 3-0 pitch and end up popping it up or something

You may already be aware of this, but with Dynamic difficulty you can also adjust how fast or slowly the difficulty adjusts. That is a feature that really made me enjoy Dynamic difficulty enough to the point that it's my default mode now. For me, I have found the sweet spot is one tick back from the default on how often the Dynamic-ness adjusts, if that makes any sense the way I explained....almost confused myself....lol

MLB The Show 19 – Baltimore Orioles Franchise

New year, new game, time to start up a new franchise. My posts are long but I appreciate anyone who reads and follows along. Just a note from me before I slip into total immersion. Each year I try to pick a team that had a GM change during the previous offseason, which for me increases the realism. For 19 that gives me the Orioles, Mets, Dodgers and Giants. I’m going with the O’s for the challenge of a full and complete rebuild. It’s been 36 years since the team has won a WS, and after experiencing a run of winning seasons under Buck Showalter and Dan Duquette (including a trip to the ALCS in 2014), the team put up the worst season in franchise history in 2018 going a dismal 47-115 and subsequently stripping the team and front office. Just glancing over their roster, this is by far the worst team I have started a franchise with and quite possibly the worst major league team I’ve ever seen in a show game. The farm system is not deep with prospects either, so this should be a daunting multi-year rebuild made exponentially more difficult by the Chris Davis contract. The good news is it will be hard to top 115 losses, and I will have the first overall pick in the 2019 draft.

As much as I love the OSFM (CRP?) rosters that come out every year, I can’t wait any longer. I’m halfway through manually adjusting/re-rating the Orioles to accurate 40-man spring training rosters and top-30 prospects, and will also add top 100 overall prospects to the other teams around the league. The rest of the minors will be stocked with generics (who I may edit later on, for guys I trade for at least). All of this importing and editing has seriously given me an appreciation for all the work the rosters guys do every year. I’ll make a separate post for my spring training / 2019 outlook and top prospects.
