Re: MLB The Show 19 Franchise Discussion Thread

The 2022 White Sox continue to be on top of the AL Central through May.

Offensively the 2nd ranked team in baseball in average at .288, 11th in runs with 235, and 26th in homers at 41.

Pitching is still our strongest area of the team. We are 2nd in all of baseball in ERA with a 2.80, 1st in runs allowed with 155 and Tied for 1st in homers allowed with 43.

It's been our 2 youngest starting pitchers leading our rotation.

24 Year old Omar Salgado currently is 9-2 with a 1.56 ERA, 1.09 WHIP and 51 K's in 81.0 innings pitched in the first two months of his sophomore season.

21 year old rookie Kevin DiBiase is 6-3 with a 2.35 ERA, 1.06 WHIP and 38 K's in 65 innings pitched in his first two months.

    Current AL Central Standings below.

Josh Donaldson is basically to MLB 19 what Eric Thames was to MLB 18 for me. I'm 21 games into my Braves franchise and he has 12 home runs. I just crush it with him.

Kind of strange, but fun, to be third in the majors in runs scored. Loving the variety.

How do you start a franchise without morale messed up? Every test franchise I do, every starter is angry that they have bench status. My team and cpu teams are all the same way. I simmed a few years and it never changes

Found that it’s because I skipped spring training. If you go straight to reg season, the morale for all starters will be messed up the whole season

Welp, my cubbies 2024 regular season has ended with us losing the final series to the rival Cardinals. The lost series has left us with a 92-70 record and dropped us to the number 2 seed in the NL. We will now take on the 89-73 Mets in the NLDS. Kris Bryant finished with a .289 ave belting 45 homeruns and driving in 124. Morgan Duran (my Ryno clone) finished with a .298 ave, hit 31 homeruns and knocked in 123. He also stole 41 bags. My top pitcher has been 4th year starter Jarrod Feller (was a .500 pitcher with an era over 4 his first 3 years) put together a 15-5 season with a 2.25 era with 200k’s. This was while missing 5 starts due to injury.

The Cubs rode into Texas and swept the Rangers to kick off the season!

Game 1: Lester (0-0) vs Minor(0-0) This game started out a pitchers duel, no score into the 5th, Cubs had bases loaded, no outs and failed to score. Same in the 6th, bases loaded 1 out, can't score. Would this come back to bite them? Let's go to the 7th, bases loaded again! 2 outs, Descalso in to face the righty, pinch hitting for Mark Zagunis. Descalso comes through with a clutch single to plate 2! In the 8th Cubs load them again, But Javy Baez would come through with a Grand Slam giving the Cubs a 6-0 lead, they would go on to win it 6-3. Lester goes 6.0, 7k's, 2bb for the win. Albert Almora went 5 for 6 in this game!

Game 2: Hendricks(0-0) vs Smiley(0-0) Cubs up 2-0 in bottom of the 3rd until Asdrubal Cabrera crushed one into the right field seats to give the Rangers a 3-2 lead. Cubs tie it on a Zagunis rbi single in the 4th but Rougned Odor would hit his first hr in the bottom of the 4th to take back the lead. Cubs would add 2 in the 7th on rbi singles from Almora and Heyward and go on to win 5-4.

Game 3: Hamels(0-0) vs Miller(0-0) Another pitchers duel, tied at 1 in the 6th, Kris Bryant launched his first HR of the season with a man on to give the Cubs a 3-1 lead and they would go on to win it by that score for a sweep of the Rangers!

Albert Almora gets our Penzoil Performer of the series

News & Notes: The Cubs made a couple minor moves. First they sent reliever Junichi Tazawa to the Tigers for 3b prospect Josh Lester. Lester has been assigned to the Cubs single A Daytona Cubs. They also traded reliever Brian Duensing to the Rangers for 1b prospect Preston Beck. Beck is 4th on the Cubs depth chart at 1b and has been assigned to the Tennessee Smokies (AA). The Cubs were lacking any real depth at those positions. They also announced they released Cory Black, a Reliever from Daytona to make room for the Free agent signing of reliever Santiago Casilla. Casilla signed for 3.4m for 2 yrs with a club option and has been assigned to the Cubs AAA Iowa team to get some work in before being called up.

Up Next: The Cubs head to Atlanta to take on the Braves

Hey fellas, quick update and question... my Mariners 2019 franchise is off to a rocky start like expected as Im in a rebuilding 1st year at 16-27. Just managed to take 1 from the best team in the league, the Bo-Sox, thanks in part to my heralded young pitching prospect Justus Sheffield, who went 7 and 1/3 innings with 7 K's and 1 ER against the best lineup in the league... nice recovery after his first start which was a simmed 2 inning nightmare against the Yanks.... My question is what pitching difficulty do you guys play on? I consider myself decent, not great but not bad and I play on All Star pitching difficulty. Im not saying Sheffield wont be good but I pitched really well to slow down the Red Sox and he is knly 65 overall currently. Not sure if I should chalk that up to just having a great game or if pitching is easier in this game. I switched to Pure Analog as I feel like I have more control than the meter... Thoughts?
Thanks and keep up the good work!

MLB the Show 19 - Baltimore Orioles Franchise

We’ve reached another new low after suffering a 3-game sweep to the Astros in Houston, a series in which they subjected us to an otherworldly *ss whooping outscoring us 31-8. We became the first team in the majors to 50 losses and sit at 16-51. This team is not just bad, it is *dangerously* close to being quantitatively: the worst team in major league history. That distinction is currently held by the 1916 Philadelphia Athletics, who finished the season 36-117 with a .235 winning percentage. Our winning percentage is currently .239. These are dark days in Baltimore.

After the disaster in Houston I made a string of roster moves - there’s not much else I can do to slow this runaway trainwreck aside from hope some of these misfits start playing better in the second half and offer some hope for the future. From here out all 25 of these guys will have to earn their playing time on a day-to-day basis.

#1 - Designated IF Hanser Alberto for assignment and placed on outright waivers. In his place comes AAA utility man and former Pirates prospect Chris Bostick. Bostick can play anywhere in the infield or either outfield corner. If he hits he will be in the lineup.

#2 - Designated LHP Sean Gilmartin for assignment and placed on outright waivers, as we call up #12 prospect RHP Dillon Tate to make his MLB debut. Tate was considered the #1 pitching prospect in the 2015 draft out of UC Santa Barbara when he was tabbed with the #4 overall pick by the Texas Rangers. He struggled in the low minors before being traded to the Yankees in the Carlos Beltran deal, then to Baltimore in the 2018 Zach Britton trade. He’s had a slow road to the show, but still has some upside at age 25. He was 3-4 with a 3.80 in Norfolk and will slide into the rotation for Andrew Cashner who goes to the bullpen. Tate makes his MLB debut on the 13th at home against the Blue Jays.

#3 - Optioned OF Dwight Smith Jr. to Norfolk and purchase the contract of OF Mike Yastrzemski. Yes, Carl’s grandson. The 28 year old was a 14th round pick of the O’s in 2013 and is a career minor leaguer and non-prospect. He was batting .267 with 10 HR and 30 RBI in Norfolk, and will get the shot to make his MLB debut in centerfield on the 11th at home against the Jays.

I passed over #1 prospect Yusniel Diaz to call up Yastrzemski. Halfway through the minor league season and Diaz is still tearing it up batting .300 with 7 HR and 20 RBI out of the leadoff spot. Diaz is ready for the majors, there is no doubt. But I’ve made the executive decision to keep him far away from this mess. I may not even call him up in September since he’s not yet on the 40. The plan is for him to finish the season in AAA then come to spring training on a major league contract next season. His counterpart Ryan Mountcastle looks like he’ll need another year in AAA - hitting with power but swinging and missing a lot and batting just over .200 on the season. He has 2.5 months to turn it around and change my mind. There is no rush, clearly.

Now that I’m clear of the draft I’ve begun trying to identify potential trade partners. The A’s are in the wildcard race and in need of a backup/platoon catcher. I have two in Carlos Perez and Jesus Sucre. The return for either would be incredibly mediocre, but whatever I can recoup would be a net gain.

Houston seems the most likely landing spot for Trumbo. Their current regular DH is career backup catcher Max Stassi who is batting .200 with little power. Trumbo is making $13.5 million in the last year of his deal so i may have to take a Wade Miley back in return, with some sort of middling prospect.

This season has gone much worse than I envisioned. Buckle up fellas, the road to avoid 120 losses is on.

I have a question and I apologize in advance if it's been answered already. I haven't got the game yet, but have read about the increase in penalty if you play someone out of position. If you edit a player's secondary position to include a position that wasn't there organically, will he still experience a drop off in fielding at that new position even though now it's listed as one of his positions he can play?

Say I have a 3rd baseman coming up through the minors but want him to play mostly second base cause we're thinner their, will he be able to field second base without the penalties?

Re: MLB The Show 19 Franchise Discussion Thread

Last night I played what I believe to be the longest game I've ever had in the Show.

15 innings in Minnesota before Freddy Galvis smacked a solo shot to left field to give the Jays the 4-3 lead before Ken Giles sent the Twins down in order to secure himself the win in his 3rd inning of work. It's a good thing it happened when it did as only Pannone was left in a bullpen that came into the game with pre-existing fatigue issues.

We're currently sitting a little under .500 at 8-11 but there have been a lot of positives to the season. Both Galvis and Drury are hitting over .300 and since his call up just a few days back Vlad Jr. has tore the cover off the ball hitting in the mid .400s. With Drury performing so well and Guerrero taking over the starting spot at third, I've opted to move Drury to right field, bring Grichuk into centre, and push Brito onto the bench. Grich hasn't looked great but I still consider him to be a high ceiling playing if he can be a little less streaky and cut back on the strike outs. He's sporting a .211 average with a few dingers (4) and RBI (11) so far. It's been much of the same with Justin Smoak who is hitting just a few points higher but with 6 home runs and 17 RBI.

Trent Thorton has been our best starter so far by quite a wide margin, and up until his last start where he gave up 5 runs, had an ERA of 0.95. The rest of our rotation has been shaky to the say the least, Shoemaker in particular has looked poor and hasn't made it deeper than the 5th in any of his starts to date.

I'm projecting us to finish somewhere around the 70 win mark, and am treating this season (and potentially next) as a year of growth for our prospects. Unfortunately for our biggest prospect not named Vlad, Bo Bichette, he will be stuck down at AAA for the time being as Freddy Galvis has been playing extremely well and Lourdes Gurriel is in need of all the playing time he can get to develop at 2nd base.

Maybe I need to be fired.

After ending a scoring drought yesterday with 15 runs....I get crushed 9-1 by Colorado. Blackmon, Arenado, Hampson, Ianneta all went deep on me. Roa gave up back to back in Colorado’s six run outburst. I managed only 5 hits off of of Marquez, Estevez, and Wade. Line on Roa 0 outs, 3 hits, 3 runs. Train leaves for AAA in the morrow.

Back to a game under .500.

The Tampa Bay Rays finally get their season up and going with a 4 game series against the Astro's. Not much to report on the roster front, only that Daniel Robertson went down injured before the first game, meaning Andrew Velazquez started the year on the roster, while Emilio Pagan beat out Wilmer Font for the last bullpen spot.

Fans excitement for the new season doesn't last long, as Cy Young winning ace Blake Snell is shelled for 3 homers and 5 runs in a 5 inning start, with the bullpen giving up another couple of homers in a 8-2 loss. All that is quickly forgotten in game two, as down to their last striker, trailing 4-3, Austin Meadows crushes a walk off homer to right center field. If this is what the new season has in store, we're in for a wild ride! A shut down 7 innings by Yonny Chirinos and a 2 homer game for Kevin Kiermaier make short work of game three, with the Rays running out comfortable 8-0 winners, with 5 homeruns in the game.
