Re: MLB The Show 20 Impressions Thread
Yes, I don’t use fast play or hybrid.. thats why I find it very uncommon that this year the CPU pitchers get set way too quickly on broadcast presentation.Comment

Re: MLB The Show 20 Impressions Thread
What is too quickly? I'm just curious because they show batter walkups before the CPU throws a pitch.Comment

Re: MLB The Show 20 Impressions Thread
Love the game. Had to play with some of the sliders for truer hard hit contact. Was getting some weak perfect/perfect outcomes.
Also Defensive outfielders randomly dive for balls without pressing the dive button. Was playing as Nationals against Arizona and fly ball is hit to the gap, easily catchable but Soto dives twice randomly while ball is in the air. I switch to Robles and soon as I switch he dives and they get a triple. This has happened numerous times.
Haven't seen anyone post this so I'm hoping its not my controller. Happens at most random moments. Outfield play in general doesn't seem as smooth. I love the new throw meter indicator when trying to throw someone out at home or 3rd from the outfield. They seem to have really improved throwing from OF this year.Yankees & Nationals - The American Way!Comment

Re: MLB The Show 20 Impressions Thread
Any different feeling for those who use analog pitching/hitting? That is the only way I like to play and I assume analog pitching is still in the game but largely untouched with any updates. Hadn't seen impressions on that in the msgs so thought I'd ask. Thanks!Comment

Re: MLB The Show 20 Impressions Thread
MLB 20 The Show Impressions
I have had a chance to really sink my teeth into this years iteration of MLB The Show. In these unprecedented times we are living through right now, it has been so wonderful to take great comfort being able to play our national pastime. And being able to play the great game of baseball virtually has never been this good. The sheer amount of gameplay improvements are simply amazing. I thought the last two iterations (18 and 19) were as good as we could get on this generation of consoles.
I was wrong.
The development team has brought us meaningful improvements in hitting, fielding, defensive strategy decisions, CPU base running and CPU logic on the diamond. Audio enhancements are also evident. Have you ever heard and felt the crack of the bat when you square up a ball ever better than this? Hell freaking no.
Options, options, options.
MLB The Show 20 is perhaps the most robust console baseball game ever produced. The different ways you can play and enjoy this game is unmatched by any sports game in any genre.
Franchise Mode
Road To The Show
March To October
Post Season Mode
Play Now
Diamond Dynasty
Custom Leagues
Homerun Derby
Retro Mode
Within the modes you have various ways to play as well.
Diamond Dynasty is without a doubt the very best fantasy/card collecting mode on any sports game bar none. And the best part? You simply do not have to invest a dime more than what you paid for the game to fully enjoy, build, collect and compete at the highest levels. It truly is that robust.
Don’t want to play online? No problem. Play Showdown mode, play conquest, or simply play vs the CPU in Extra Innings
But I encourage you to play online. Yes that’s right. Find some friends, like minded simulation players and form a custom league. The games has never played better online in the series history. A few of us OS Supporters formed a Diamond Dynasty League. We set a team overall cap of 80 and declared our rosters and we are locked into the cards we declared for Season 1. Then in Season two we have rules about how many players you can cut and add at positions etc. You can make any roster rules you want. But this gives you an idea of how much fun you can have with Custom Leagues. This is a great first step to having online franchise come back and be fully customizable. I can see this mode being expanded upon in the years to come.
Showdown Mode is simply......addicting. If you have not tried it out I encourage you to do so. It is fast, fun and intense. When you only have 20-30 minutes to play, Showdown Mode can satisfy that Show fix.
Let’s talk about gameplay.
Hitting - Yes....the hitting engine is better than ever. The sheer amount of hit variety again has gone up. Ever since MLB 12 all the way to 20 the ball physics have been improved. They have done it again. The sweet sound and feel of really grooving a ball has never been better. Is power more prevalent? Undoubtedly yes. Is this good? Absolutely. The real MLB has seen an incredible power surge and the Show is reflecting this. But fear not. If you play every game.....you will see statistics in line with real life. If you only play 30-40 games a season....I am sorry but you cannot really understand the reversion to the mean that it will no doubt do.
Fielding - Smoother than ever before. Animations are getting better and better. Throwing guys out at 2nd, 3rd and home is a real thing finally. I love seeing real cannons truly be just that. And weak arms be very costly. Defense matters more than ever. This has been an incremental improvement since MLB 17. And it has been realized on 20.
Catchers - Blocking is awesome. Block ratings are true to form. Catcher urgency has vastly improved from MLB 16 to now. Just simply awesome. If you have an elite backstop......you are way ahead of the game. If you are sub-par at Catcher? Get ready to be run off the field by elite base stealers and guys with very good speed.
Pitching - It has never been better vs the CPU in terms of swings and misses, and backward K’s. Setting up the batters has been simply beautiful for me. Strikeout numbers are definitely up across the board.....just like the real MLB.
CPU base-running - They really did a great job on this. CPU baserunners are far more willing to stretch singles into doubles and doubles into triples. It really makes defense mater. Ratings simply matter more than they ever has.
Graphically - I love how beautiful this game looks. Ballparks, weather, chalk degradation. Yes Player Models look the same and have for a long time. But is that really a bad thing? The game is gorgeous. I came from the Atari 2600 era.....I never get caught up in graphics.
Audio - The sounds off the bat are simply delicious and help enhance the overall feel of hitting to levels never felt before on a console baseball game. Sounds of the Show has a lot more space this year to load up all your favorites sounds and customize your baseball experience to your hearts content.
So let’s get to some negatives.
Franchise Mode - Other than adding the Diamond Dynasty uniform suite so you can rebrand and re-locate (well kinda relocate), franchise mode is basically untouched. Look. I really like franchise mode already. I have been playing Franchise with 30 team control for like.....forever. So I am always immersed in it to the max. But it does need some improvements in terms of progression, regression, scouting and overall player development. Logic and under the hood AI absolutely needs to get a much needed refresh and looked at big time. The usual laundry list is always there. But make no mistake for me personally it is still the best franchise mode in console sports. Yes even better than NBA 2K in terms of stability. What I would love to see is a customization suite like 2K’s My League. That is exactly what would make Franchise players go gaga. The great thing about MLB’s franchise is it is not nearly as unstable as 2K (just go visit that forum to find out all the game breaking bugs that infest MyLeague each and every year). I can easily play multiple years (4,5,6 years) and have a realistic league.
Also we are dealing with some OSD bugs inside of franchise which I expect to get patched and fixed 100%. It is dissapointing this stuff got by testing. It literally takes a few games inside franchise to see the statistic bugs that kill immersion.
However, Like I said.....I fully expect it to be addressed in the very near future.
So in conclusion, MLB The Show 20 is truly an impressive package of incredibly realistic gameplay on the diamond coupled with ton’s of modes and ways to play the greatest sport on earth.
9.0/10

Re: MLB The Show 20 Impressions Thread
Ok, this is what I mean:
Your batter gets to the plate (player walk up), first pitch is thrown, say I take it... it doesn’t even take 2 seconds and im already seeing the pitcher getting set and throwing the next pitch.. like you don’t see the batter getting ready again nor the pitcher al least taking a look to the catcher.... thats what I mean. Its so fast an at bat takes less then 20 seconds.Comment

Re: MLB The Show 20 Impressions Thread
There's an option for that too. In the settings under fielding. Other than changing from manual fielding, there's something you can turn on/off diving as well.
Not at home at the moment, but I'll double check.

There is an auto dive and auto jump toggle on this year’s game. Look through the fielding settings both basic and advanced as well as general setting tab both basic and advanced.
You can toggle them on or off.

Re: MLB The Show 20 Impressions Thread
Well, I start my franchise season today, so I've got the game set to my liking, so here goes:
First off, I don't play DD, March to October, RTTS, have never tried home run derby, practice mode, on-line (not for me) the list goes on. I play one season every year and then hang it up waiting patiently for the next years version of the game. I'm also a graphics whore (that's why I harp on the awful CAPS SDS has made regarding the fake managers/coaches), however.....
I usually use the default roster and build it from there. I've always liked using the developers and some of the youtubers on a fantasy team, the Brooklyn Bridges (who did some of the motion captures in the past), Doug Heney, Shelfy Robinson (who was given a crazy/funny walkup animation), etc. But this year almost all of them.....g-o-n-e. I think the default roster might have had 6 or 7 of them. The roster that came with the game was AWFUL. Dozens of CAPS had the same players faces. The roster, as promised, left a lot to be desired. I personally thought it was awful, but, thanks to some guys in the vault, some who do absolute magic with the CAPS, I was able to build a solid "looking" roster. So, this option that SDS put in the game allowed me to make my own roster that passed muster. The option to do so 9 out of 10. (for the love of gosh, do something with those fake manager/coaches. Scan some people off the street, you do it for the crowds SDS, why not the coaches?)
How did SDS up the visuals in the game. I swear I'm in awe how beautiful the game looks. The jump from last year is amazing. The twilight sky and ferris wheel in one of the stadiums (at my morning coffee here, so the name escapes me) is a thing of beauty. I play on a 65" Samsung QLED, PS4 PRO, so maybe that helps, but geez! Throw in the pre-pitch cameras set to ALL and ALWAYS and it's just the icing on the cake. I rarely press X now, as I sit and just take it in with my one game a day. Just what will this game look like on the next PS? 10-10.
Gameplay. I keep it simple. I like a clean screen. I've always used CLASSIC pitching and have just been a center swing guy. I believe this has allowed for the greatest affect when it comes to the different kinds of hits that I see. Pitching, CLASSIC. Quick counts ON, another great option given to us. I don't use the hot/cold zones, have all visual aids off. I just learn the pitches pitch types and go from there. I use AUTO base running. Why would I want to pull out the hair I don't have mucking up a go ahead inning because I wind up with 4 guys on 3rd base, lol. I'm capable, believe me, not a button masher. My only gripe would be that AUTO base running should have a button that, if pressed, would over ride a steal that the CPU might want to pull off unexpectedly, but that's minor. Also, due to the lack of collision detection there are still those steals where the runners head first slides with the out stretched hands OVER top of the bag and not touching the base, are called out. This has been an issue for years and should be looked at and come up with a fix. But in the big picture, very minor. 9.8 out of 10.
The rebranding. Needs a few generic looking big league stadiums. With patience I was able to come up with some really professional looking uniforms for the new Miami Blacksox, Cooperstown Crusaders (Tampa Bay), Las Vegas Kings (Oakland), El Paso Outlaws (Houston). The options also allowed me to knock everyone on the Astros 2017 season out of baseball. Hey, it’s my game. Hopefully next year they will expand on this, but it helps the fun factor. 7 out of 10.
Options. We are blessed with so many options out of the box to make the game suit us. This year I have yet to touch a slider. Seems to be working. But again, I believe if people take their time, they can find the proper settings for the kind of game they want. Kudos to SDS for giving us a wealth of options. 10-10.
With no real baseball for awhile, this is the closest thing to it. Thank you SDS, sure beats Interplay Baseball. Enjoy.Last edited by KnightTemplar; 03-24-2020, 10:27 AM.Comment

I hope it’s some kind of bug, but I just noticed they removed the game summary cutscene. Wtf is that. That was probably my favorite cutscene in the game. If I hear they cut it because “most people skip it” I’m gonna throw up. At some point you have to trust you instincts as to what makes for good presentation and stop looking at your “data” that comes from a flock of 12 year olds and people with ADD. So effing sick of this “make the game as fast as possible” thing they’ve been doing for years now.
