Re: MLB The Show 20 Franchise Discussion Thread

Yankees Sweep Mets In 2 Game Set, Move To 71-36

The Cole Vs DeGrom clash lived up to expectations with DeGrom tossing 7 innings of 2 run ball and Cole going 6.2 innings deep. Gerrit Cole provided his own run support slapping a 2 run double over 1B Pete Alonso’s head into the OF corner in the 5th. We go on to win 4-1.

In game 2 Trevor Bauer would top Cole’s performance by taking a no hitter into the 7th striking out 9. Unfortunately he just ran out of gas as Cespedes punched a double into the gap with 2 outs to break it up and end Bauer’s night. We win 5-0.

Yankees Extend Trevor Bauer For 1 Year At 17.2M
Bauer has stated in the past that he would go year to year on contracts and this extension will do that a bit early ensuring that the new 1-2 punch of Cole and Bauer will remain intact for next season.

Yankees Acquire RP Trey Wingenter From Padres
In return OF prospect Blake Rutherford will go to the Padres. 24 year old Wingenter was lit up in 2019 over 51 IP in the majors for SD. He’s spent all of this year in the minors. Wingenter has the stuff to dominate out of the bullpen but has severe struggles with control. For SD, they deal from a position of strength with a sharp bullpen and farm system full of promising young arms to add Rutherford in RF, where all they have is Wil Myers in the majors and filler guys in the minors.

Next: We close out July and open August with 4 games at Fenway. Trade deadline is 2 days away.

      Clinched the AL East tonight

TNK - Boston Red Sox Franchise
      Game #159 of Season

Toronto Blue Jays (82-76) @ Boston Red Sox (103-55)
Pitching Matchup - Nate Pearson vs Eduardo Rodriguez

The Blue Jays had the games first threat when they put runners on the corners with 1 out in the top of the 2nd inning. Danny Jansen hit the ball hard but lined out to Moreland for the 2nd out and Anthony Alford flew out to Bradley in CF as Eduardo Rodriguez works out of trouble and the game remained scoreless. The Red Sox would open the scoring in the bottom of the 2nd when JD Martinez doubled to start the inning and Mitch Moreland followed with a RBI double to give Boston a 1-0 lead. The Blue Jays answered right back when Bo Bichette homered to LF leading off the top of t he 3rd to tie the score at 1-1. Billy McKinney would come through with 2 outs grounding a ball up the middle for a RBI single to give Toronto a 2-1 lead. Nate Pearson retired the Sox in order in the bottom of the 3rd to send the game to the 4th inning with the Blue Jays up 2-1. The score remained 2-1 into the bottom of the 5th where Alex Verdugo would line a ball down the RF line into the corner for a RBI double scoring Vazquez all the way from first base to tie the game 2-2. Andrew Benintendi would drive in Verdugo with a RBI double with 2 outs to give Boston a 3-2 lead. Rodriguez retired the side in the top of the 6th and the Red Sox would add to their lead in the bottom of the 6th as Xander Bogaerts hit a ball in the gap in right-center for a lead off triple and came in to score on a RBI sac fly by JD Martinez to make it 4-2. Pearson would get through the rest of the inning with no further damage striking out Chavis for his 9th K of the game to end the bottom of the 6th and send the game to the 7th inning with Boston leading 4-2. Bo Bichette came to the plate with 1 on and 1 out int he top of the 7th and would go with an outside fastball from Rodriguez and hit a tailing fly ball toward the RF corner that wrapped around the Pesky pol for a game tying 2-run HR to even the score at 4-4. Ryan Brasier took over with 2 outs and walked Gurriel to bring up Vlad Guerrero who grounded out to Chavis to end the top of the 7th. Tim Mayza took over on the mound for Toronto to start the bottom of the 7th and the Red Sox would threaten after back to back singles by Verdugo and Bradley with 1 out. Benintendi flew out to deep CF and Verdugo would move up to 3rd setting up runners on the corners for Devers who would ground out to end the inning as Mayza escapes and we would move to the 8th inning tied 4-4. Randal Grichuk blooped a soft liner down the RF line for a double with 1 out in the top of the 8th. Drury grounded out to Chavis for the 2nd out bringing up Danny Jansen with two outs and the possible go ahead run standing on 3rd base. Brasier would get out of the jam by running a 98 mph fastball in on the hands of Jansen who would pop up to Moreland ending the top of the 8th. Sam Gaviglio came on to pitch the bottom of the 8th for Toronto and JD Martinez would double off the green monster with 1 out. Gaviglio would get Moreland and Chavis to both ground out and would escape the jam sending the game to the 9th inning with the score tied at 4-4. Matt Barnes came on to pitch the top of the 9th for Boston and would retire the Blue Jays in order to send the game to the bottom of the 9th. The Red Sox would come to bat in the bottom of the 9th looking to walk off with a victory and celebrate an AL East title. Blue Jays closer Ken Giles came on to pitch the bottom of the 9th for Toronto and would retire the side in order as the Red Sox go down quietly and we were headed to extra innings. Barnes pitched a scoreless top of the 10th and Andrew Benintendi would double to lead off the bottom of the 10th. Rafael Devers would ground out to the right side advancing Benintendi to 3rd base with 1 out. Giles came back with a huge strikeout of Xander Bogaerts who failed to put the ball in play and that would bring up JD Martinez with 2 outs and the potential winning run 90 feet away at 3rd base. JD Martinez would strikeout but the ball would bounce away from Jansen allowing Martinez to reach as Benintendi needed to hold at 3rd base. Mitch Moreland came up with runners on the corners and Giles would get out of the inning as Moreland flew out to Gurriel in LF and the game would continue to the 11th inning. Barnes retired the side in the top of the 11th and Thomas Pannone would come on to pitch the bottom of the 11th for the Blue Jays. Michael Chavis would lead off the bottom of the 11th for Boston and Chavis jumped a first pitch fastball from Pannone driving it high and deep to LF for a walk off HR to give the Red Sox a 5-4 victory

      * The Red Sox and Blue Jays were tied 4-4 as the game would head to extra innings and Michael Chavis would win it for Boston on the first pitch in the bottom of the 11th as he crushed a walk off HR to LF to give Boston a 5-4 win

      * The Red Sox improve to 104-55 and clinch the AL East as the Yankees lost 6-5 to the Astros which drops them 4 games behind the Red Sox with 3 games remaining in the season

      * Eduardo Rodriguez pitched 6.2 innings allowing 4 runs on 9 hits with 1 walk and 5 Ks in his final outing of the regular season. Rodriguez will enter the post-season as the Red Sox #2 starter

      * Nate Pearson was the #1 rated Blue Jays prospect and made his MLB debut pitching 6 innings allowing 4 runs on 7 hits while striking out 9 and showed flashes of what makes him one of the top pitching prospects in baseball. Pearson will likely begin next season in the Blue Jays rotation

      * Michael Chavis was the hero for Boston hitting a walk off HR in the 11th inning for his 30th HR of the season. Chavis is hitting .264 with 30 HR & 84 RBI in what has been an excellent first full season in the majors after debuting last season

      * Bo Bichette had a big night for Toronto going 2 for 5 with 2 HR & 3 RBI. Bichette is hitting .265 with 24 HR & 85 RBI in what has been an excellent rookie season

      * JD Martinez went 2 for 4 with 2 doubles & 1 RBI for Boston and is now hitting .321 with 40 HR & 135 RBI

      * Matt Barnes pitched 3 scoreless innings of relief and earned the win for Boston

      * The Red Sox complete the sweep of the Blue Jays and will wrap up the regular season with 3 games against the Baltimore Orioles at Fenway Park. The Red Sox have shut down Collin McHugh for the season and will call up lefty Matt Hall to make the start. Hall came over to the Red Sox from Detroit in the off-season and will be making his Red Sox debut against Kohl Stewart who gets the start for Baltimore

      * The Red Sox have clinched first place to win the 2020 AL East pennant

      HIGHLIGHT
Michael Chavis wins the game with a walk off HR in the 11th inning

Cardinals take series against Mets in Queens

The Cardinals took 2 of the 3 games against the Mets in New York to begin the week. The Cardinals got offense in this series as they hit 8 homeruns over the 8 games including 4 in the series finale.

Nolan Gorman continues to swing a hot bat as he has extended his hitting streak to 9 games and his homerun streak to 5 straight games. Gorman was the rookie of the month in May.

Yoan Moncada continues to be a bat to contend with as he went 5 for 8 in the series with 3 doubles and 4 RBI's.

The Cardinals are off both Thursday and Friday before playing a quick 2 game weekend series with the Cubs in a scheduling oddity.
I can't shave with my eyes closed, meaning each day I have to look at myself in the mirror and respect who I see.

I miss the old days of Operation Sports :(

Cardinals complete mini sweep of Cubs as bats stay hot

The Cardinals completed the quick 2 game mini sweep of the Cubs over the weekend as they extend their divisional lead over their rivals to 7 games.

The Cardinals bats stayed hot as they tallied 17 runs in the 2 games on 30 hits. Nolan Gorman lost a streak in the series as he didn't homer, but he did hit safely in both games to extend his hitting streak to 11 games. In fact, Gorman went a perfect 7 for 7 in the series driving in 5 runs and drawing 3 walks.

Pitching was good this series although Junior Fernandez was knocked around Saturday to the tune of 6 runs on 7 hits over 5 2/3 innings. He still qualified for the win as the Cardinals would lead 7-6 when he departed. Dakota Hudson once again proved big out of the bullpen throwing 2 1/3 innings striking out 3 and yielding no runs on 2 hits.

On Sunday, Kyle Funkhouser would pitch his 3 complete game of the season, going all 9 while striking out 12, walking 3, and yielding 3 runs on 11 hits. Defense helped Funkhouser as they were able to turn a whopping 4 double plays against the Cubs.

The Cardinals are off on Monday before they head to Colorado for a 3 game series with the Rockies who are contending with the Giants out west for the division lead.

There will be a game 163...

Unfortunately our last 3 game series of the year didn't go our way. We lost the series to the NL East Champs(Mets) 2 to 3. The Nats ending up salvaging the Wild Card home game by defeating the Indians on the last day. They are really struggling 2-6 in their last 8 games, but unfortunately they have a day off to regroup before playing the winner of Game 163.

The Cards are winner's of two in a row, bringing them to the play-in game vs. My Braves who lost our last game against the Mets. We are both 88-74. I am lil puzzled how come we are traveling to St. Louis. But one of the records is missing in the standings how team's fare against the league that they're are playing in. The Cards must have a better record than I vs. the NL. But I a have chance at playing in the Post-Season via two games.

The pitching match-up is the hott Newcomb(Braves) 12-9, ERA 2.86, 189IP,178K,36BB & WHIP of 1.11. Going for the Cards is Flaherty: 204 K on the year in 169.0IP, ERA 4.15, 80
BB & WHIP of 1.37. Only game in the country, so we are "Primetime" on the MLB Network.
The bats I need to avoid is 1B Goldie. The dude has 43 bombs, 113 RBI and .320 BA. Also the top of order OF Jose Martinez has 26HR and 76RBI from the lead-off spot.

So it's game time pretty soon.

Re: MLB The Show 20 Franchise Discussion Thread

The 2020 Trade Deadline has come and gone, and there was a late flurry of action.
The Miami Marlins pulled their signature move, The Firesale, on deadline day.

3B Brian Anderson heads to the rival Braves for prospects SP Ian Anderson, CF Justin Dean, and RF Trey Harris.
1B Jesus Aguilar heads to the Nationals for SP Seth Romero,
Last....Jonathan Villar heads to the Cubs for prospects CF Brennan Davis and 3B Wladimir Galindo.
We were interested in Villar before the Cubs swooped in, but with only hours left to negotiate deals we were able to pivot to someone else...

Yankees Acquire 2B Tommy La Stella From LA Angels
Prospect SP Luis Gil, who is having a great year in AA, will head to LA in return. C Chris Iannetta will head to LA as well as a throw in depth piece. La Stella is in the middle of a pretty ugly year at the plate, as his AVG and OBP have plummeted from his 2019 level. Through 348 AB’s he’s hit to a line of 239\316\376, with a OPS of 693.

In 2019 he hit 295 with a 346 OBP and a 832 OPS. He’s also 31 and on an expiring contract worth 3.3M. We believe he can turn his season around and absolutely rake in Yankee Stadium. La Stella is an extreme lefty pull hitter who can be very good vs RH pitching but doesn’t fare so well vs Leftys making him more of a platoon player. His defense is just about passable, and he won’t be stealing any bases.
The plan is for him to split time at 2B and 1B, taking some AB’s from both Goins and Mike Ford vs RH pitching. He can also play 3B if needed but with his arm strength only the opposing team wants to see that.

Next up: We start August with 2 at Fenway before heading back to NY to take on the 50-60 White Sox for 3 games.
              News:
Yankees Option Struggling Luke Voit To AAA, Opening Roster Spot For La Stella
Yankees Gerrit Cole Wins AL July Pitcher Of The Month Award.

Re: MLB The Show 20 Franchise Discussion Thread

I just finished my 2020 season and what a wild ride.

The Dodgers are your 2020 World Series Champions, defeating the New York Yankees 4-1.

After demolishing the Angels in 5, capping the series off with a 17-3 blowout at home, I thought that we had all the momentum in the world. We even took game one against the 110 win Dodgers, 6-2. The next game, we lost 1-2 in 10, and were not able to recover. We lost the last 4 games outright. Justin Turner was the WS MVP, and Aaron Hicks was the Playoff MVP.

Overall it was a very good season and we came up just short of our goal.We finished the year 105-57, with the best record in the AL, 4 games ahead of the Red Sox, who we would beat in the ALDS in 5 games.

Giancarlo Stanton was the 2020 AL MVP, hitting 49 homeruns, 123 RBIs with a triple slash of .324/.418/.747. This was the second year in a row winning the award. He was 14 RBIs short of a triple crown although he had only played in 116 games. His AB/HR was 8.9, so if he had played all 162 he was on pace to hit 66.8 long balls.

2019 Drafted Kevin Weinstein was the ROTY; in 103 games he hit 19 HR, 51 RBIs, had a .277/.353/.466 slash and stole 21 SB. He is a future 30/30 guy for sure.

My comeback player of the year would be Aaron Hicks, who was limited to 94 games last year before being sidelined with a torn ACL. This year he had a .295/.378/.576 line with 37 homeruns and 96 RBIs. He also hit .439 in the playoffs with 10 homeruns.

Our biggest disappointment was Gary Sanchez. After only hitting .237 with 22 longballs in 2019, we expected a bounce back year for him. Instead, Gary only saw 43 games behind the plate, and missed the playoffs entirely. We went through about 6 different catchers the entire season.

On the pitching side of things, our rotation was solid, and Paxton was almost a 20 game winner. Tanaka is a free agent, and will be looking for a big pay day. He was the consistent workhorse that we needed, going 193.2 IP in 31 starts, but his ERA was 4.00, with a career high WHIP of 1.29.

All and all we are inches away from winning the World Series. In 2019 we were upset in the ALDS. This year, we lost in the WS. Hopefully we have enough to get over the final hump for next year.

Ben Zobrist retired due to age. He was a hell of a platoon guy for us having hit .273 and able to play all over the place. We have a guy in De Silva (drafted in 2019) that will compete to be that guy next season.

The only other MLB retirement that was noteworthy was Nelson Cruz. He hit 40 homeruns in 2019 and was coming off of a 31 homerun season this year, hitting .271, so he definitely could have found a home somewhere.

Going to try and get through the off-season tonight / tomorrow and get a spring training preview up before Cole's debut Thursday. I'm going to try and post more often during my 2021 season.

                Happy (almost) Opening Day all!

Garrett Suffers First Loss, Mets Have Now Dropped 5 Straight
                  April 29, 2024

In his 7th start of the season, Amir Garrett finally notches one in the loss column. The Mets were hoping that the reigning NL CY Young winner would stop their losing skid, but it would not be the case as the Chicago Cubs took Game 1 by a score of 5-0. It may have been Garrett's first loss, but he has been far from perfect this season. His ERA sits at 4.61, and the Mets are going to need him to perform far better if they want to seriously contend this season.

Duane Underwood was magnificent on the bump for the Cubs tonight, surrendering only two hits over eight scoreless innings.

The recent struggles can be attributed to a lack of offense. The Mets have only scored 9 runs during this 5-game stretch, the majority of those coming too little too late in a 4-5 loss to the Braves in the series finale.

The Mets (19-13) now turn to Noah Syndergaard to put a stop to the bleeding. They'll face the Cubs twice more before continuing their current home stand and welcoming the Cardinals (18-14) into town for a 4-game set.

Rough way to end your season. Sounds like your franchise is a carryover so don’t know what that Dodgers roster looks like but if it’s anything like the current 2020 Dodgers it must be scary. A bit nervous about the idea of possibly facing them in my Yankees franchise started this year. They are the perfect example of a stacked roster. Probably the closest you can get to a ‘Super team’ in baseball.

                      Cardinals take series against Rockies

The Cardinals won 2 of the 3 games against the Rockies in Busch Stadium.

The Cardinals lost the series opener as Jack Flaherty was lit up by the Rockies lineup yielding 7 runs on 11 hits over just 5 inning of work. Dakota Hudson pitched the remainder of the game from the bullpen yielding 1 run on 4 hits over his 4 innings of work.

The Cardinals would win Wednesday night behind a dominant performance from Josh Rogers. Rogers would pitch a complete game shutout (132 pitches thrown) that saw him walk 2, give up 5 hits and strikeout an impressive 15 batters. At one point Rogers struck out 8 straight batters and stuck out the side in 3 separate innings. The Cardinals bats weren't that great, but they did push across 3 runs thanks to Brendan McKay's 2 run homerun in the 5th and Andrew Knizner delivered an RBI single in the 7th.

The Cardinals would win the rubber match as Michael Wacha earned his 9th win of the season in a 7-3 win for the Cardinals. Things got off to a rough start as Wacha gave up 3 runs in the first inning including 3 walks, but he settled down and got thru 6 innings of work before turning things over to the bullpen. The Cardinals took the lead in the bottom of the 6th, after trailing 3-0, by putting up 5 runs, 4 on a grand slam from Yoan Moncada. Nolan Gorman would hit a solo homerun two batters later as he continues to swing a hot bat. Corey Littrell, Zack Burdi, and Jordan Hicks combined to close out the game giving up no runs, 3 hits and striking out 5 collectively.

The Cardinals welcome central division foe Reds into Busch Stadium for a 3 game weekend series.

Cardinals place Devon Snow on 10 Day IL

The Cardinals have placed catcher Devon Snow on the 10 Day IL due to back soreness. Snow was removed from the game in the 7th inning while running out a groundball. Snow is expected to miss 2 weeks.

Zach Jackson has been recalled from Memphis to fulfill the vacant roster position.

Syndergaard Rights Ship, Mets win 5-2
                        April 30, 2024

The Mets Ace did what they needed and expected him to do. He gave up just two runs over seven innings, punching out 12 and collecting the win. More importantly, he put an end to a five game losing streak.

Michael Conforto also did his part, blasting a 3-run HR in the bottom of the first inning, giving the Mets a lead that they would never relinquish. OF Frank Pulido, who was filling in for Eloy Jimenez on a scheduled day off, drove in two more runs with a bases loaded single in the 6th inning.

Pulido has performed well in his first full-time stint on the big league roster. He's got nine hits in 20 AB and has driven in five runs. Unfortunately, a loaded Mets outfield is preventing him from seeing an increase in playing time, but he does provide depth in case of injury.

Through the first month+ of the season, the Mets sit at 20-13, good for first in the NL East.

                        NL East Standings:
                        New York Mets 20-13
                        Philadelphia Phillies 18-14 (1.5 GB)
                        Miami Marlins 17-16 (3.0 GB)
                        Washington Nationals 17-18 (4.0 GB)
                        Atlanta Braves 13-20 (7.0 GB)

Walker Buehler (2-3, 2.54 ERA) will face off against Oscar De La Cruz (2-1, 6.18 ERA) in tomorrow's series finale.

Cardinals take 2 of 3 from Reds

The Cardinals have won yet another series, this time taking 2 out of 3 from the Reds, who are in 3rd place in the Central.

The Cardinals won the first two games of the series, but were unable to complete the sweep on a rainy Sunday afternoon where their bats went ice cold, producing just one run on 4 hits.

The Cardinals won the Friday night opener in dramatic fashion coming back from 4 runs down heading into the bottom of the 8th, where the Cardinals, who had zero runs and just 2 hits prior, would put up 9 runs on 8 hits in the inning. Zack Burdi would record the win as he pitched the final out of the 8th, and then struck out the side in the 9th on 11 pitches.

On Saturday it was the Brendan McKay show as he would go 3 for 3 with 3 homeruns and 8 RBI's on the day. McKay hit a 3 run bomb in the 1st inning, followed by a 2 run jack in the 3rd, and then his final homerun would happen in the 6th which was another 3 run shot. The Cardinals would go on to win this game 14-4 over the Reds as Kyle Funkhouser recorded his 9th win of the year.

On Sunday, Jack Flaherty was great, but the bats weren't. Flaherty would get a no decision after giving up a solo homerun to Jonathan India in the 7th that chased him from the game. Tyler Jay would come on and give up a solo shot to Cole Brennan on the first pitch of his night thus giving the Reds a 2-1 lead that would eventually turn into a 3-1 lose for the Cardinals.

The Cardinals are right back at it Monday night as they travel to Miami to face the Marlins, the team that eliminated them in the NLDS last year. Its a 4 game series before the Cards head to Boston for a 3 game series with the Red Sox to close out the month of June.

Cardinals place Zach Jackson on 10 Day IL

The Cardinals have put yet another catcher on the IL. Zach Jackson was added Sunday night after leaving the game with an elbow issue. Jackson who was recalled from Memphis to fulfill the vacant catcher spot left when Devon Snow was placed on the 10 Day IL due to back stiffness, only managed 3 innings of work before being sidelined this time around.

The Cardinals have recalled Luis Herrera from Springfield to fill the spot until Snow returns in about 6 days. Springfield is at the all-star break currently, so Herrera shouldn't miss but a game or two in Springfield.
I can't shave with my eyes closed, meaning each day I have to look at myself in the mirror and respect who I see.

I miss the old days of Operation Sports :(

A bit nervous about the idea of possibly facing them in my Yankees franchise started this year. They are the perfect example of a stacked roster. Probably the closest you can get to a ‘Super team’ in baseball.

They lost Turner in the offseason but did just sign Realmuto. Their rotation is stacked with Kershaw, Buehler, Maeda, Urias and Strowman.

The Angels are the ones that are breaking the bank. They signed Cole to a megadeal last offseason and this offseason grabbed Mookie.

Talk about getting kicked while you’re down, I started a game last night and there was terrible lag with my controller. I finally got my timing down with the lag and escaped the top of the first only giving up two runs, but batting was a disaster. Three strikeouts and an opposite field bloop single on a change up. I decided to sim the rest of the game and restart my ps4 to see if it fixed my controller, I sim to the end only to find out Not only did I lose 2-1, but Michael Conforto tore his labrum and is out for the year

Minnesota Twins @ Boston Red Sox
Pitching Matchup - Jose Berrios vs Chris Sale

The Red Sox would strike first in the bottom of the 2nd when Michael Chavis doubled high off the green monster with 1 out and came in to score when Alex Verdugo roped a RBI double in the gap with 2 outs to give Boston a 1-0 lead. Chris Sale was pitching well and the Twins were hit-less through 4 innings. Chavis would double with 1 out in the bottom of the 4th and Verdugo would again come to the plate with 2 outs but this time Berrios would strike Verdugo out to end the threat and send the game to the 5th inning with Boston leading 1-0. Sale retired the side in order in the top of the 5th and the Twins were still in search of their first hit of the ball game. Berrios would get through the bottom of the 5th and we would move to the 6th inning with Boston leading 1-0. Byron Buxton would get the Twins first hit of the game when he lined a double in the gap with 1 out in the top of the 6th and Jorge Polanco would come through with a RBI double with 2 outs to tie the score at 1-1. Sale would get Nelson Cruz to fly out to Verdugo in RF to strand the runner in scoring position and end the top of the 6th. Berrios would work around a lead off single by Bogaerts in the bottom of the 6th to send the game to the 7th inning with the score tied 1-1. Sale had Eddie Rosario frozen on back to back perfect pitches on the outside corner but was squeezed by the home plate umpire to run the count full and Rosario would take advantage on a fastball from Sale as he lofted a high fly ball down the RF line that stayed inside the Pesky pole for a 2-run HR to give the Twins a 3-1 lead. Sale would get through the rest of the inning with no further damage but the Twins now had a 3-1 lead. Berrios would sit the Red Sox down in order in the bottom of the 7th and the game would move to the 8th inning with Minnesota leading 3-1. Josh Taylor took over on the mound for Boston and would get out of the top of the 8th by getting Nelson Cruz to bounce into an inning ending 4-6-3 double play. Trevor May came on to pitch the bottom of the 8th for the Twins and Rafael Devers would square up a low fastball from May and drive it 416 feet over the Red Sox bullpen in RF for a solo HR to make it a 3-2 game. Bogaerts made a bid for back to back homers but his long fly down the LF line hooked foul and May would come back to strike hom out for a big 2nd out. JD Martinez and Mitch Moreland hit back to back singles with 2 outs to bring up Michael Chavis who put on the at bat of the night as he fell behind 0-2 but fouled off several two strike pitches and battled his way to a full count and May would try to come inside with a 96 mph fastball on the 11th pitch of the at bat and Chavis would drive it high and deep to LF for a 3-run HR to give the Red Sox a 5-3 lead. Tyler Duffey replaced May on the mound and walked Vazquez and Verdugo to bring up Jackie Bradley with two men on. Bradley would work to a full count and get a fastball from Duffey that he crushed 435 feet down the RF line for a 3-run HR to blow the game open as the Red Sox have hit 3 HR in the bottom of the 8th to turn a 3-1 deficit into a 8-3 lead. Tyler Clippard would get Benintendi to fly out to end the inning after the Red Sox explode for 7 runs in the bottom of the 8th and the game would go to the 9th inning with Boston leading 8-3. Josh Taylor and Ryan Brasier would combine to pitch a scoreless top of the 9th as the Red Sox come from behind to win 8-3 and take a 1-0 lead in the series

                                * The Twins were leading 3-1 in the bottom of the 8th when the Red Sox exploded for 7 runs on home runs by Devers, Chavis and Bradley to power Boston to a 8-3 win in Game 1

                                * The Red Sox take a 1-0 series lead

                                * Chris Sale no-hit the Twins through the first 5 innings before Minnesota got to him in the 6th & 7th innings as Sale would finish with 7 innings pitched allowing 3 runs on 5 hits with 4 Ks

                                * Jose Berrios was excellent for Minnesota and was in line for the victory before the bullpen implosion in the 8th. Berrios would throw 7 strong innings allowing 1 run on 5 hits with 1 walk and 4 Ks

                                * Michael Chavis was the hero for Boston as he went 3 for 4 with 2 doubles, HR & 3 RBI and hit a huge go ahead 3-run HR off Trevor May in the bottom of the 8th to give the Red Sox a 5-3 lead.

                                * Rafael Devers was 2 for 3 with a double and HR with 1 RBI while Jackie Bradley went 1 for 4 with a HR & 3 RBI for Boston

                                * Eddie Rosario went 1 for 4 with a HR & 2 RBI for Minnesota

                                * Game #2 Pitchers - Kenta Maeda vs Eduardo Rodriguez

HIGHLIGHT - The Red Sox trailed 3-1 entering the bottom of the 8th before Boston exploded for 7 runs as Devers hit a solo HR to cut the Twins lead to 3-2, Chavis blasted a go ahead 3-run HR to give Boston a 5-3 lead and Jackie Bradley would add a 3-run HR to blow the game open 8-3
