Re: MLB The Show 20 Franchise Discussion Thread

The Red Sox hang on to win another thriller in Game 4 and are now one win away from a World Series Championship

TNK - Boston Red Sox Franchise
World Series - Game #4 (Boston leads series 2-1)

Boston Red Sox @ Chicago Cubs
Pitching Matchup - Martin Perez vs Jon Lester

The Red Sox and Cubs prepare to play Game #4 of what has been a thrilling World Series as all 3 games have been very close games and the pitching has been outstanding on both sides in all 3 games. The Red Sox will have Martin Perez on the mound and Chicago will turn to Jon Lester who has been a big game pitcher and the Cubs will need him to deliver a strong performance if they're going to even up the series at 2-2. Boston will be looking to take a commanding 3-1 series lead and position themselves one win away from a championship

The Red Sox got off to a quick start in the top of the 1st inning as Benintendi singled to lead off the game and Jon Lester would get Devers and Bogaerts to bring up JD Martinez with 2 outs. Martinez and Lester would battle to a full count and Lester threw a curveball with the full count that stayed up in the zone and Martinez hit an absolute rocket deep to LF that just made it into the netting above the wall for a 2-run HR to give Boston a 2-0 lead. The Cubs would get on the board in the bottom of the 2nd when Kyle Schwarber drove a fastball from Perez the opposite way for a solo HR to LF to lead off the inning. Perez would bounce back and retire the next 3 hitters and the game would move to the 3rd inning with Boston leading 2-1. Lester retired the side in order in the top of the 3rd and Perez would sit the Cubs down in order freezing Kris Bryant with a back door cutter to end the bottom of the 3rd and send the game to the 4th inning with Boston leading 2-1. Xander Bogaerts would get a fastball down and in from Lester with a full count leading off the top of the 4th and crushed a solo HR to LF to push the lead to 3-1 and Michael Chavis would add a solo HR of his own with 1 out and the Red Sox had a 4-1 lead. The Cubs answered right back as Anthony Rizzo took Perez deep to lead off the bottom of the 4th and cut the deficit in half 4-2. Perez would bounce back and retire the next 3 batters and we would go to the 5th inning with Boston leading 4-2. Lester and Perez would both throw 1-2-3 innings in the 5th and the game would move to the 6th inning with the Red Sox leading 4-2. Lester finished of his day with another quick inning in the top of the 6th as he was able to keep the Cubs in the ball game. The Cubs would continue to chip away at the Boston lead in the bottom of the 6th as Kris Bryant hit a towering fly ball that carried over the wall in the LF corner for a solo HR with 1 out in the bottom of the 6th to pull Chicago within a run at 4-3. The Cubs kept coming as Rizzo singled and Javier Baez followed with a ball in the gap in right-center that rolled to the wall for a RBI triple as the Cubs fight back and tie the game 4-4. Josh Taylor would replace Perez on the mound with 1 out and Baez at 3rd and did a fantastic job as he would get Schwarber to pop up for a huge 2nd out and struck out Contreras to strand Baez at 3rd base and send the game to the 7th inning tied at 4-4. Casey Sadler took over on the mound for Chicago to pitch the top of the 7th and Michael Chavis would lead off the inning with a rocket that short hopped the wall in CF and Chavis would leg out a lead off a triple. Sadler would get a big 1st out as Vazquez popped out and Jackie Bradley would be called on to hit for Pillar with 1 out. Bradley would fall behind in the count but fouled off a couple tough pitches with 2 strikes before lining a ball back up the middle past the drawn in infield for a big RBI single to give the Red Sox a 5-4 lead. Jose Peraza singled to RF and Bradley would race to 3rd base setting up runners at the corners for Bobby Dalbec who was pinch hitting for the pitchers spot. Dalbec would drive in a run with a RBI sac fly to RF to extend the Boston lead to 6-4. Kyle Ryan replaced Sadler on the mound and got Benintendi to fly out to end the top of the 7th with the Red Sox now leading 6-4. Heath Hembree would get the call to pitch the bottom of the 7th and would strikeout Souza to start the inning for the 1st out. Nico Hoerner singled up the middle with 1 out but would be thrown out trying to steal on a great throw by Vazquez and Hembree would strikeout Happ to end the 7th inning and send the game to the 8th inning with Boston leading 6-4. Rowan Wick worked out of trouble in the top of the 8th to keep it a 6-4 game. Alex Verdugo would enter the game as a defensive replacement for JD Martinez in RF and Matt Barnes would come on to pitch the bottom of the 8th for Boston. Jason Heyward would hit in the pitchers spot leading off the bottom of the 8th and go down swinging on a curveball for the first out. Kris Bryant and Anthony Rizzo would both ground out to Bogaerts as Barnes comes in and retires the side in the bottom of the 8th to send the game to the 9th inning with Boston leading 6-4. Dan Winkler took over on the mound for Chicago and retired the side in order to keep it a two run game and we would go to the bottom of the 9th with the Red Sox leading 6-4. Brandon Workman would make his way in to try and close it out for Boston with the Cubs coming to the plate in the bottom of the 9th trailing 6-4 and in danger of falling behind 3-1 in the series. Javier Baez started the bottom of the 9th with a ground ball to Chavis at first base who flipped to Workman for the first out. Kyle Schwarber hit a chopper up the middle but Bogaerts would get to it and throw him out and the Cubs were down to their final out. Willson Contreras would keep the game alive with a single into RF and Chicago would bring the tying run to the plate in Steven Souza with 2 outs in the bottom of the 9th. Souza would single into RF and suddenly the Cubs had two men on base and Nico Hoerner coming to the plate. Hoerner would make it 3 straight singles with two outs with a liner into CF for a RBi single to score Contreras and make it a one run game 6-5. Workman was rattled and on the verge of blowing the game as the Wrigley Field crowd was going crazy with the Cubs trying to finish off an epic comeback and even the series as Victor Caratini came on to pinch hit with two men on base and two outs. Caratini battled and fouled off a couple tough pitches with two strikes but Workman would settle down and win the battle as Caratini hit the ball on the ground to Chavis at first base and he would field it and sprint to the bag to record the final out as the Red Sox hang on for a nail biting 6-5 victory and take a commanding 3-1 series lead

    * The Red Sox and Cubs each hit 3 home runs as they slugged their way to a 4-4 tie through 6 innings before Boston scored a pair of runs in the top of the 7th as Jackie Bradley delivered a pinch hit RBI single and Bobby Dalbec pinch hit and delivered a sac fly to give Boston a 6-4 lead. The bullpen would do their job and hand it over to Brandon Workman who recorded two quick outs in the bottom of the 9th before the Cubs offense came alive with 3 straight singles as Nico Hoerner made it 6-5. Victor Caratini was called on to pinch hit with the potential tying and go ahead runs on base and two outs but Workman would hang on for the heart attack save as Caratini grounded out to Chavis for the final out and the Red Sox hang on to win 6-5 and are one win away from a World Series title

    * Martin Perez pitched 5.1 innings allowing 4 runs on 5 hits with 4 Ks for Boston

    * Jon Lester battled through 6 innings allowing 4 runs on 4 hits with 6 Ks for Chicago

    * The Red Sox got home runs from Xander Bogaerts (6th of postseason), Michael Chavis (4th of postseason) and JD Martinez (1st of postseason)

    * Jackie Bradley delivered a big pinch hit RBI single in the 7th to snap a 4-4 tie and Bobby Dalbec followed with a pinch hit RBI sac fly giving the Red Sox a 6-4 lead

    * The Cubs got home runs from Kris Bryant (3rd), Anthony Rizzo (6th) and Kyle Schwarber (5th)

    * The Red Sox will have a chance to end the series tomorrow night and will send Chris Sale to the mound in Game 5 against Kyle Hendricks for Chicago

      The Amazins

Mets Drop 2 of 3 to Pirates
      May 11, 2024

The Mets were hopeful that they could string together a couple of series wins against teams under .500, but a trip to Pittsburgh proved otherwise.

Amir Garrett lost his second decision in a row in a 6-4 defeat in Game 1. He pitched just 4 innings, giving up 8 hits and 5 runs while only striking out three. The Mets offense wasn't much better, except for Jonathan Lucroy, who provided all 4 RBIs for the Mets offense. Lucroy is having a below average year so far, his OPS is .596 and he's got just 7 extra base hits. The Mets are hoping that C Luke Wray can start to chip away at his playing time, but he's currently hitting below .200.

Game 2 was supposed to feature two aces in the form of Noah Syndergaard and Jameson Taillon. That wouldn't be the case as the both pitchers didn't make it out of the 5th inning. This was a tough one to swallow for the Mets as they held multiple runs leads several times throughout the game, including an 11-3 lead in the 5th inning, before the Pirates stormed back and won the game 12-11. RHP Julio Alvarez was the goat yet again, as he gave up 4 runs over the inning he pitched. He does have an option left, so look for a potential trip to Syracuse when RHP Nick Burdi returns from the IL in a few days.

The bats stayed hot for the Mets in Game 3. RF Braxton Davidson hit 2 HRs and
OF Frank Pulido had a pinch hit 3-run HR in the 9th to put an exclamation point on the 8-1 Mets win. Walker Buehler went 6 IP, giving up 4 hits, an unearned run, and striking out 3 in the win.

The Mets (27-17) will have a day off before the Padres (17-25) come to town for a 3-game series.

Mets Option RHP Alvarez to Syracuse, Activate RHP Nick Burdi from the IL

Julio Alvarez has been a part of the Mets bullpen each of the last 4 seasons, including last year where he struck out 58 over 70.2 innings and had a 2.04 ERA and 0.89 WHIP. Unfortunately, his lack of production this season has warranted a trip to Triple-A Syracuse to see if he can get his former self back.

Alvarez has a 6.62 ERA and 1.42 WHIP in 17.2 IP so far this season. The Mets are hoping that a brief stint in Triple-A will be the wake up call he needs because his talent is undeniable. Alvarez is a submariner with a 95MPH fastball and a deadly curveball when he's on. So far this year, his curve has been flat and his fastball is topping out around 93 MPH.

RHP Nick Burdi will slide back into his closer's role, moving LHP Dan Shoemaker back to the 8th inning.

The Cubs continue to rake the ball, as they are killing it in two important categories offensively. AVG (2nd) and Hits (5th). Browning is on his way to another All Star appearance with a .314AVG/15HR/50RBI/33SB and Miguel Sano is leading the NL in HR’s with 26, while also hitting .290. Tim Anderson is hitting .321/9HR/40RBI out of the leadoff spot and has been a stellar member of the Cubs in his first full season on the North side.

The pitching continues to excel, as nobody has over a 4.2ERA in the rotation, and nearly the entire bullpen is excelling as well.

The all-star break is nearing, and it remains to be seen if the Cubs will make a move to bolster the roster in order to win the division.
Cubs are 53-32 and 1GB of the Brewers.

July saw 4 Cubs named to the All-Star team. CP Clyde Booker made his 3rd straight AS game, SP Jose Berrios made his 2nd as a Cub, Henry Browning was voted the starting LF for the 2nd time in his career, and Tim Anderson was voted in as the backup 2B.

Other than that, July was the worst month for the Cubs thus far as they went 11-14 during the month and although they are still in prime position for a playoff appearance the division will be tough to catch up too with the Brewers holding a 7 game lead heading into August.

Many of the Cubs hitters cooled off massively in July, and the stellar bullpen was roughed up quite a bit during the month as well. The Cubs decided not to make a move at the deadline this year as they feel there roster is still capable of competing for the championship. It will be a fun division race the last two months, as the Cubs still play the Brewers 6 more times during the season.

Cubs are 64-46 and 7GB of the NL Central leading Brewers.
August saw the Cubs finish above .500 with an overall 15-13 record in the month, but it did come with some downsides. The Cubs lost Sano for a couple weeks in the month due to an injury, but the big one was RF Henry Browning, who tore his calf in the middle of the month and will likely miss the rest of the season. There is an outside shot he makes it back sometime in the postseason, but it is doubtful. The Cubs also lost utility man Doug Paolucci for the year as well in the same series they lost Browning.

The Cubs will have 1B/OF Devin Jackson assume the RF role for the remainder of the season. He has performed well this year hitting .276/11HR/36RBI thus far.

23 year old SP Jose Serrano is having his best season yet, as he is 15-6 with a 3.72 ERA on the year, and along with Jose Berrios is leading the rotation, while the bullpen remains strong, but not as dominant as they were early in the season.

The Cubs will have to put up a good fight in September to push the Brewers in the division race as they lead the central by 4games. The Cubs and Brewers do play 3 times in September.

Cubs are 79-59 and 4GB of the division leading Brewers.

September was a .500 (12-12) month for the Cubs and it was not enough for them to overtake the Brewers in the division race. This means yet again the Cubs will be forced to play in the 1 game playoff to hopefully advance to the deeper stages of the postseason.

The defending champs will have to face the Mets in the WC game, and they have yet to decide on a starter. The candidates Berrios, Urias, and Serrano all had good seasons, and their ERA’s are very similar. The Cubs will be without Henry Browning for most if not all of the playoffs as he is still out 3-4 weeks nursing a torn calf.

Re: MLB The Show 20 Franchise Discussion Thread

Game 5 was another thriller as the Red Sox hang on to win 5-4 and are your 2020 World Series Champions

The entire series was intense as every single game was close and a nail biter with 4 of the 5 games decided by one run and the only game that wasn't decided by one run was tied 1-1 in the 7th when Jose Peraza hit a 3-run HR for the most dramatic moment of the postseason

I will begin the off season tomorrow and start working on the 2021 Red Sox

TNK - Boston Red Sox Franchise
World Series - Game #5 (Boston leads series 3-1)

Boston Red Sox @ Chicago Cubs
Pitching Matchup - Chris Sale vs Kyle Hendricks

The Red Sox and Cubs prepare to play Game #5 of the World Series with the Red Sox leading the series 3-1 and on the brink of a championship while the Cubs need a win to send the series back to Boston for a Game 6. The pitching matchup will be a rematch of Game 1 as the Red Sox will have Chris Sale on the mound with a chance to clinch the series and Chicago will turn to Kyle Hendricks with their backs against the wall as they look to stay alive

The Red Sox would get on the board first with 1 out in the top of the 2nd inning when Hendricks left a changeup up in the zone and Michael Chavis hit it high and deep towards left-center and over the wall for his 3rd HR of the series to give Boston the early 1-0 lead. Chris Sale was sharp early as he retired the 6 Cubs batters and had 4 strikeouts through the first two innings and we would go to the 3rd inning with Boston leading 1-0. Nico Hoerner singled to lead off the bottom of the 3rd inning and stole second base to move into scoring position with nobody out. Sale came right back by striking out Ian Happ for the first out bringing up Kyle Hendricks. Sale had two strikes on Hendricks and tried to put him away with a slider but Hendricks was able to slap a soft liner just over the head of Chavis at first base and down the RF line for a huge RBI double from the Cubs pitcher to tie the score 1-1. Bryant singled through the right side setting up runners at the corners with 1 out for Rizzo who would go down chasing a slider away for a big strikeout for the 2nd out. Javier Baez would fly out to Martinez in RF as Sale does a great job to escape the jam and limit the damage sending the game to the 4th inning with the score tied 1-1. The Red Sox would string together some two out magic in the top of the 4th after Hendricks recorded the first two outs with ease in the inning as Martinez singled and Chavis drew a walk to bring up Christian Vazquez with two on and two outs. The runners were in motion with a full count and Vazquez would hit a soft liner into RF for a RBI single to give Boston a 2-1 lead. Jose Peraza blooped a ball into no mans land behind first base for a RBI single to make it 3-1 and Jackie Bradley would line a RBI single into RF to make it 4-1 before Hendricks would get Sale to ground out as the Red Sox string together 3 straight RBI singles with 2 outs to open up a 4-1 lead. Sale picked up two more Ks bringing his total to 8 strikeouts through 4 innings and the game would go to the 5th inning with Boston leading 4-1. Sale would strikeout Happ and Bote to start the bottom of the 5th to bring his total to 10 Ks before Kris Bryant launched a solo HR to LF to get the crowd back in the game and cut the Red Sox lead to 4-2. Sale would record his 11th K as Rizzo went down chasing a slider to end the 5th and send the game to the 6th inning with Boston leading 4-2. Casey Sadler took over for Hendricks on the mound and would get a big strikeout of Bradley to end the inning and strand a couple of base runners keeping it a 4-2 game. Sale would sit down Baez, Schwarber and Contreras 1-2-3 in the bottom of the 6th to finish his outing and send the game to the 7th inning with the Red Sox leading 4-2. Bobby Dalbec pinch hit for Sale leading off the top of the 7th but went down swinging against Brad Wieck who was on to pitch for Chicago. The Red Sox went to work again with 2 outs as Rafael Devers singled and Xander Bogaerts would drive a ball high and deep to LF that would hit off the ivy covered wall just over the glove of Schwarber who made a leaping attempt and crashed into the wall as Devers raced all the way around and Bogaerts would wind up with a RBI triple to extend the Red Sox lead to 5-2. Jeremy Jeffress replaced Wieck on the mound and retired JD Martinez to strand Bogaerts at 3rd ending the top of the 7th. Darwinzon Hernandez came on to pitch the bottom of the 7th for Boston and would work around a lead off single by Souza with a big help from Jackie Bradley who made a beautiful diving catch to rob Nico Hoerner of a base hit for the first out. Hernandez would get Victor Caratini to fly out to Benintendi to end the bottom of the 7th and the Red Sox were 6 outs away from a championship as we would go to the 8th inning with Boston leading 5-2. Kyle Ryan pitched a scoreless top of the 8th for Chicago to keep it a 5-2 game. Hernandez returned to the mound and started the bottom of the 8th by striking out Kris Bryant and Anthony Rizzo both on 98 mph fastballs. Javier Baez ripped a single into LF with 2 outs and Hernandez would hang a slider to Kyle Schwarber who crushed a no doubter to RF for a huge 2-run HR to give the Cubs a spark and bring the crowd to life as they cut the Red Sox lead to 5-4. Ryan Brasier came in from the Red Sox pen and Willson Contreras would hit a flare into shallow RF the landed on the chalk for a fair ball and Contreras would end up in scoring position with a 2 out double. Brasier would get Souza to pop up to Bogaerts and escape the inning with the lead intact as the Red Sox are 3 outs away from a title as the game moved to the 9th inning with Boston leading 5-4. Dan Winkler came on to pitch the top of the 9th for Chicago and retired the first two batters before Devers singled up the middle for his 3rd hit of the game. Xander Bogaerts stepped in with 2 outs and flew out to Schwarber to end the top of the 9th and send the game to the bottom of the with the Red Sox 3 outs away from winning the world series. The Cubs would come to bat in the bottom of the 9th trailing 5-4 with the bottom of the order due up and Brandon Workman entering the game to try and close out the series for Boston. Workman has pitched in each of the last two games and Matt Barnes was ready to go in the Boston pen if Workman should look tired or get himself into trouble. Nico Hoerner popped out to Chavis at first base for the 1st out. Ian Happ would hit a flare to the left side and Xander Bogaerts would make a running catch for the 2nd out and the Cubs were down to their final out. Jason Heyward would pinch hit in the pitchers spot with the Red Sox one out away from a championship. Heyward and Workman would battle to a full count with the crowd on their feet and the intensity at a fever pitch with the Cubs down to their final strike. Workman would take a deep breath as Vazquez put down the sign calling for a cutter inside and Workman would execute as he ran the cutter in on the hands and Heyward would swing and miss for the final out as the Red Sox stormed the field to celebrate as they win Game 5 by a score of 5-4 and the Boston Red Sox are your 2020 WORLD SERIES CHAMPIONS!

          * The Red Sox win Game 5 by a score of 5-4 to win the World Series beating the Cubs 4-1 in what was a very close series as every game was close and 4 of the 5 games were decided by one run

          * Chris Sale finished off his season as the winning pitcher in the series deciding game as he pitched 6 strong innings allowing 2 runs on 5 hits with 11 strikeouts. Sale was the AL Cy Young winner and carried that into the postseason going 4-0 with a 3.19 ERA and pitching his best in the World Series where he went 2-0 with 25 strikeouts in 13.2 innings against the Cubs

          * Kyle Hendricks allowed 4 runs in 5.0 innings on 6 hits with 2 walks and 4 Ks to take the loss for Chicago and finish the postseason 1-3 with a 4.55 ERA

          * Michael Chavis went 2 for 3 with a double, HR & 1 RBI to finish what was a tremendous postseason as he hit .404 with 6 doubles, 5 HR & 9 RBI

          * Xander Bogaerts hit a RBI triple in the 7th inning that would drove in the eventual game winning run and Bogaerts finished the postseason with 15 RBI

          * The Red Sox got timely hitting from their role players throughout the postseason and Game 5 was no different as the bottom of the order came through with Vazquez, Peraza and Bradley delivering 3 striaght RBI singles with 2 outs in the top of the 4th

          * The Cubs got home runs in Game 5 from Kris Bryant (4th HR of postseason) and Kyle Schwarber (6th HR of postseason)

Re: MLB The Show 20 Franchise Discussion Thread

So I found an old franchise on 17 that I started in 14. I was using dynamic difficulty. It’s in the regular season. I always used dynamic in spring training to set my level for the season. Is it possible to play exhibition games using it and then it would be set in my franchise too or no?

              The Amazins

Mets' Struggles Continue, Drop Another Series
              May 15, 2024

Going by records alone, the Mets should have had themselves a productive week and a half against three teams under .500. Expectations in the clubhouse were that they would go 6-3 during the three series. Instead, they struggled their way to a 4-5 record, including 2-4 against the last place Pirates and Padres.

Amir Garrett has now lost his last three decisions, including a 10-5 defeat today at the hands of the Padres in the series finale. He would manage 4.2 IP, 7 H, 6 ER, 5 K, and has not looked himself for the last month. His ERA now sits at 5.30, a far departure from the NL CY Young from last year.

Rookie LHP Sean Machado has also struggled as of late. After being effective as a spot starter and in the bullpen for the first month of the season, he has seen his success virtually disappear. Machado has surrendered three home runs over his last three appearances (all out of the bullpen), and has seemingly lost all confidence.

The Mets (28-19) get a day off to regroup before welcoming the Diamondbacks (26-21), who are winners of 5 straight, to Citi Field. It will be their last series at home for 10 days, as they hit the road and head to Philadelphia, Milwaukee, and Arizona.

Closer Nick Burdi Dazzles in Return

RHP Nick Burdi closed out game 2 of the Padres series in his return from the IL. It was his 7th save in as many tries this year. He breezed through the 9th inning on 13 pitches, striking out 2 and looking every bit as dominant as he did pre-injury.

Cardinals sweep Rays in final series before All-Star Break

The Cardinals swept the Rays in a 3 game series in Tampa Bay to head into the All-Star break with positive momentum and a 6 1/2 game lead in the National League Central Division over the Cubs.

The Cardinals absolutely dominated this series scoring 10+ runs in each game, recording 15+ hits in each game, launching 3+ homeruns in each game, and striking out 12+ each game.

The Cardinals will head to the break with a comfortable 6 1/2 game lead over the Cubs and currently hold the best record in the National League.

The Cardinals will return to action on Friday after the break as they host the struggling Yankees.

Prospects Jhon Torres and Griffin Roberts selected for Futures Game

The Cardinals organization will have two representatives in the Futures Game on Sunday evening at Guaranteed Rate Field in Chicago.

OF Jhon Torres and RHP Griffin Roberts will represent the Redbirds for the National League.

Jhon Torres started the season in Double A Springfield, but was called up to Memphis after tearing the cover off the ball and J.J. Bleday being put on the IL. Torres has struggled at the Triple A level hitting just .236 with 6 homeruns and 24 RBI's, but the Cardinals aren't in a rush to move him along and will let him develop at a comfortable pace.

Griffin Roberts has been the closer for Memphis all season and leads the Pacific Coast League with 23 saves thus far this season. Roberts is 1-0 and a perfect 23 for 23 in save opportunities. He owns an ERA of 2.01. Roberts is expected to be a contender for a bullpen position next Spring.

Brinson was once a highly rated prospect for the Marlins that could not find success at the major league level and the Red Sox will take a flyer on Brinson to see if he can put it together and work his way back to the major leagues

                    Red Sox Off-Season Trades
(All trades I make are done through offers I receive via the find trade feature)
Red Sox trade 2B Dustin Pedroia to Padres for RP Drew Pomeranz & LF Eric Cortes
                    * The Red Sox send Pedroia to San Diego where he will have a chance to take one last chance at resurrecting his career after battling injuries and the emergence of Michael Chavis guaranteed that Pedroia would have no chance at the second base job in Boston. The Red Sox had to take back a little salary and Drew Pomeranz will join the Red Sox for his second stint with the team. The Red Sox also acquired LF Eric Cortes who is an 18 year old "A" potential prospect

Red Sox trade SP Zack Godley & 2B Chad De La Guerra to Padres for SP Cal Quantrill
                    * The Red Sox make a second trade with the Padres that sends Zack Godley & Chad De La Guerra to San Diego for Cal Quantrill in a move that rounds out the pitching staff for Boston as they add a young arm that slots into the rotation as the #5 starter in Quantrill

Red Sox trade CF Gilberto Jimenez to Dodgers for SP Tony Gonsolin
                    * The Red Sox send "B" potential CF prospect Gilberto Jimenez to Los Angeles for Tony Gonsolin who will provide important depth to the pitching staff as Gonsolin will give them an arm capable of pitching multiple innings out of the bullpen with the ability to join the rotation if one of the starters gets injured or struggles

Red Sox trade SS Tzu Wei-Lin to Phillies for SS Nick Maton, CF Simon Muzziotti & RP Zach Warren
                    * The Red Sox had to move Tzu-Wei Lin due to too much depth at the SS position as they have superstar Xander Bogaerts at the MLB level on a long term deal and they have Marco Hernandez and new addition Addison Russell at AAA Pawtucket. The Red Sox acquired 3 prospects who will all play at AA Portland in 2021

                    Red Sox Notable Waiver Losses

                      Mets Sweep DBacks
                      May 19, 2024

The Mets welcomed the Diamondbacks Citi Field and swept the 3-game series in relatively easy fashion. This was an impressive series for the home team as Arizona was coming in with a 5-game win streak.

Game 2 was the only real competitive game, one that the Mets ended up winning 4-3 in 12 innings. 2B Gene Worley drove in the game tying run in the bottom of the 9th with a single up the middle, and 3B Rafael Devers would punch one over the shortstop's head in the 12th to secure the victory.

SS Richard Urena had a noteworthy performance in the series finale. He went 4-6 with 2 doubles, a home run, and 4 RBIs in a 13-5 trouncing.

The Mets now hit the road for 10 days. They'll visit Philadelphia, Milwaukee, and then Arizona where the Dbacks hope they can get revenge.

Yankees Drop 2 Of 3 To Royals, Win 2 Of 3 From White Sox. Now at 85-39.

After taking a 14-1 beating from Chicago in game 1, we rebounded with a 4-2 win in game 2. In game 3 we came 1 out away from losing back to back series. Losing 5-3 in the 9th, Frazier on 1st with 2 outs, Yankees SS Ryan Goins would step up to the plate and yank a 2 run 402ft shot HR to tie the game at 5-5. We went on to win 10-5 in extras.
Miguel Andujar rejoined the lineup for game 1 @ KC.

Ryan Goins continues to be one of the best stories and biggest surprises of the 2020 season now with a line of 286/365/567 with a 932 OPS and 16 HR’s through 231 AB’s. DJ LeMahieu who?

The Yankee front office have mostly pushed all the right buttons this season but may have finally made a costly mistake. Deadline acquisition IF Tommy La Stella still hasn’t found his swing over his first few weeks in pinstripes continuing his ugly season. We parted with a decent SP prospect in Luis Gil to get him and that gamble hasn’t paid off so far.

Next up: We meet the 58-66 Rays back in NY. After that, a critical 4 game set with the 78-48 Blue Jays as they arrive in the Bronx. Toronto trails us by 8 games, and with Tampa and Boston both 20+ games behind, they are the only real threat left to stop us from wrapping up the division title.

Patrick Wisdom wins the 2026 Homerun Derby

Orioles 3B Patrick Wisdom won the 2026 Homerun Derby at Guaranteed Rate Field Monday night beating Cardinals 1B Brendan McKay.

Patrick Wisdom his 19 homeruns to win the title after Brendan McKay put up 18 homeruns to start the championship round.

Brendan McKay and Roberto Osuna named to National League All-Star roster

Brendan McKay and Roberto Osuna have been named to the National League All-Star roster. Brendan McKay will be the starting first baseman for the NL and Roberto Osuna will obviously be in the bullpen.

Brendan McKay is hitting .266 with 25 homeruns and 66 RBI's at the break. He also has 21 doubles on the year.

Roberto Osuna owns a 0.89 ERA and is a perfect 23 for 23 in save opportunities this season. He also has 2 holds on the year.

The 97th all star game will be played Tuesday night at Guaranteed Rate Park in Chicago.

Curious to know how many HRs have you guys allowed in a game ever?. I just gave up 5 HRs in a game against the Blue Jays... 3 against my starter over 6 innings and 2 (back to back on 2 pitches) against Miguel Castro. Now the good news is that they were all solo shots, the bad news is that I ended up losing the game 5 to 3.

American League blasts National League 12-2 in mid-summer classic

The American League All-Stars took it to the National League All-Stars last night in 97th All-Star Game at Guaranteed Rate Field in Chicago. When the final out was made, the AL had defeated the NL 12-2.

The AL jumped out to a 3-0 lead after the first inning and never looked back. By the time the 7th inning stretch came, the AL was up 12-0. The American League squad blasted only 1 homerun despite their high run total. In fact, Mookie Betts' homerun was the only homerun of the game.

The National League was able to avoid the shutout putting up 2 runs in the Top of the 9th when Alex Bregmann drove home two on a double.

As for the Cardinals participants, Brendan McKay went 0 for 1 with a walk. Roberto Osuna stuck out both batters he faced in the 7th.

With the All-Star game concluded the Cardinals will return to the diamond on Friday evening when they host the Yankees for a 3 game series.
