My Braves franchise update: Spring Training in process

I getting the hang of my new player's and lineup... I have discovered a SS Ray-Patrick Didder he was own my 2019 roster file. It was from Ridin FM in 19'. The guy can play the field and has slap hitting style, with speed. I have Ozzie@2B and Pinder@SS, but he will make my 26 man roster coming out spring. Maybe have him starting AAA and be on my 1st call-up list.

I also finally hit my first and second HR's of the Spring, four games in. Newly acquired 3B Arenado a 400 plus ft blast out towards RF and newly inserted SS Pinder deep CF shot. Trying to get my 1B Olson going at the dish. He has 0 hits in 10AB. Ouch! Not concerned about wins just learning my offense and pitching staff...

Same. But I accept it's 100% my fault, and if I'm locked in, it doesn't happen.

It's why I prefer pitchers with sliders as opposed to curveballs.

I use classic buttons, which uses 100% attributes and man, when my pitcher doesn’t have any of his pitches, a slider placed down and away to break outside, easily ends up in the seats because it broke high inside

Cardinals place Harrison Bader on 10 Day IL

The Cardinals have placed starting centerfielder Harrison Bader on the 10 day IL after he sprained his wrist on a stolen base attempt in Friday nights game against the Yankees.

The Cardinals expect to have Bader back around the trade deadline.

C.J. McElroy will take over the starting centerfield role and Connor Capel was recalled from Memphis to fill the vacant roster position.

I'm in '23 and darvish is in major decline. I was going to move on from him but he opted into his 21 mil player option so I'm stuck with him. I've learned that 70-75 pitches is a hard cap for him pitches 76 and onward is disaster.

That’s me just at the All Star break and 5 games up on the Yankees for first in the AL east. The young players have really took a step forward and breakouts from Hernandez, Grichuck and Tellez couldn’t have came at a better time. The trade for Perez and Merrifield made me a true contender.

The bullpen is my only noticeable weakness at the moment. Sent Joe Panik to the Cubs for Jeremy Jeffress. Panik was up and down to AAA, as was Jeffress with Chicago. They had injuries middle infield and I wanted some depth in the pen

Considering trading for a reliable 8th inning guy to set up Giles. Looking at Givens and Colome at the moment. I have a few weeks to evaluate.

                    Pirates Franchise, 2020

Sitting at 40-56 at the All Star break on a 3 game losing streak, swept by Cincinnati. We have the fewest HR's in the league at 76 for the season. Bryan Reynolds has 15, Colin Moran has 13. Also have the fewest strikeouts too though. We hit the ball plenty just hit it directly at the defense and leave WAY too many runners on base. Jarrod Dyson when he actually gets on base, makes the pitcher work with 20 steals, 2nd in the league behind Marlins, Jonathan Villar (25).
Josh Bell was having a promising season but has been injured since mid May... Our pitching has been awful beside Brualt who we traded. Taillon is 1-6 with a 3.80 ERA. After trading Archer and Brault we brought up Brandon Waddell who in 4 starts has been a breath of fresh air. 3-1 with a 3.18 ERA and already 30 K's in 34 innings! Bryan Reynolds is also leading the league in batting average at .348.

TRADES: We moved Steven Brault who was having an awesome season with a 2.80 ERA and 6 wins on the season to the Twins who are fighting for the wildcard for CF prospect Akil Baddoo. Then moved Chris Archer to The Yankees for Catching prospect Anthony Seigler. Archer had been fairly average but gives the Yankees another solid starter to put in as #3,4 or 5. We found ourselves with a logjam at SS and our 6'7 prospect ONeil Cruz waiting for his opportunity, possibly next season, so we moved Erik Gonzalez to Philly for hard throwing reliever Seranthiny Dominguez. Philly has a few infield injuries and Gonzalez can play a multiple of positions for them from 3rd to 2nd as well as short.

                    Prospects Watch:
                    SS: Oneil Cruz .277 avg 9 HR's 37 RBI
                    256 AB's

                      Cardinals swept by Giants

The Cardinals were swept by the Giants to start the week. The Giants just absolutely dominated the Cardinals this series, putting up double digit runs in the final two games and collecting 41 hits in those two games along with 9 homeruns.

The Cardinals bullpen blew game one as they allowed the Giants to score 3 times in the 7th in route to a 5-3 loss. Games 2 and 3 saw both Jack Flaherty and Josh Rogers get knocked out of the game before the 5th inning, putting major strain on the bullpen for the series and the next 4 game series against the Cubs.

The Cardinals will stay home to host the Cubs for a 4 game weekend series as the month of July comes to a close.

Closer Nick Burdi Done For Year
                        May 21, 2024

In a terrifying scene, Nick Burdi took a line drive off the head in the top of the 9th inning tonight, and was knocked unconscious for several minutes. Fortunately, he was revived and waved to the fans as he exited the ballpark on a stretcher.

X-Rays showed a fracture in his skull, ending his season. Burdi will be placed on the 60-Day IL, and Julio Alvarez will be recalled.

The Mets would go on to lose the game 4-3, after Dan Shoemaker entered the game and blew the save. That is the least of the Mets concerns as they just lost their closer for the year.

This being the last year of Burdi's contract, this all but ends his career as a Met. Burdi pitched 2.5 years in a Mets uniform, amassing over 100 saves and a 3.15 ERA.

The Mets have two games remaining in the Phillies series, and are hoping to even it up after having lost the first two games. Noah Syndergaard is on the mound tomorrow against Phillies ace LHP Juan Delgado.

The Cubs lost Sano for a couple weeks in the month due to an injury, but the big one was RF Henry Browning, who tore his calf in the middle of the month and will likely miss the rest of the season. There is an outside shot he makes it back sometime in the postseason, but it is doubtful. The Cubs also lost utility man Doug Paolucci for the year as well in the same series they lost Browning.

The Cubs will have 1B/OF Devin Jackson assume the RF role for the remainder of the season. He has performed well this year hitting .276/11HR/36RBI thus far.

23 year old SP Jose Serrano is having his best season yet, as he is 15-6 with a 3.72 ERA on the year, and along with Jose Berrios is leading the rotation, while the bullpen remains strong, but not as dominant as they were early in the season.

The Cubs will have to put up a good fight in September to push the Brewers in the division race as they lead the central by 4games. The Cubs and Brewers do play 3 times in September.

Cubs are 79-59 and 4GB of the division leading Brewers.

September was a .500 (12-12) month for the Cubs and it was not enough for them to overtake the Brewers in the division race. This means yet again the Cubs will be forced to play in the 1 game playoff to hopefully advance to the deeper stages of the postseason.

The defending champs will have to face the Mets in the WC game, and they have yet to decide on a starter. The candidates Berrios, Urias, and Serrano all had good seasons, and their ERA’s are very similar. The Cubs will be without Henry Browning for most if not all of the playoffs as he is still out 3-4 weeks nursing a torn calf.

                          Henry Browning .292/18HR/67RBI/50SB (All Star)

                          Jose Berrios 10-15, 3.86ERA, 223K’s (All Star)
                          Jose Serrano 18-8, 3.76ERA, 205Ks (Cy Young)
                          Julio Urias 13-10, 3.69ERA, 179K’s
                          Bernard Nowak 8-5 4.28ERA, 186K’s
                          Francis Easley 12-12, 4.15ERA, 183K’s
                          Clyde Booker 2.66ERA, 53saves, 86K’s (All Star)

                          NL Wild Card Game
                          Julio Urias (13-10, 3.69ERA) VS Reid McMahon (11-7, 3.65ERA)

It was a pitchers duel early in this one, as Urias and McMahon were going back and forth putting up 0’s on the scoreboard.
In the 5th the Cubs broke through, starting rookie OF Pablo Zambrano hit a solo HR and gave the Cubs a 1-0 lead heading into inning 6.
This is where the Cubs broke down, as Urias gave up 3 runs in the 6th, with 2 runs coming off the bat of Vladdy Jr, and 2 more runs came in the 7th and this put the Mets up 5-1, and the Mets never looked back. Adding 2 more in the 9th and leaving the Cubs with 1 lonely run and being sent home packing in a 7-1 loss.

The defending champs season is over.

                            Thoughts:
The Cubs yet again failed to deliver in a season where they won the world series prior. The Cubs continue to fall short in winning the division, putting them consistently in the NL WC game in a win or go home situation. The Brewers continue to dominate the NL central and the Cubs need to make moves in the offseason to focus on beating them and taking the NL central crown.

The Cubs will have some tough decisions to make this offseason. As Jose Berrios, Javier Baez, Miguel Sano, Nolan Arenado, Alan Quick, Criag Reese, and Clyde Booker are all set to become free agent.
These are huge prominent players who have been apart of multiple world series teams. Many of them are aging though, this is a time the Cubs could retool, rebuild or recharge. It will be interesting to see what the Cubs do.

                            Notable Losses:
                            SP Jose Berrios
                            3B Miguel Sano
                            2B Alan Quick
                            3B Nolan Arenado
                            CP Clyde Booker
                            RP Nick Witgren

                            Notable Signings:
                            CF Jo Adell 6YR/186M
                            SP Danny Rosenberg 5YR/80M
                            SS Javier Baez 4YR/120M
                            IF/UTIL Dylan Moore 1YR/7M

                            Notable Trades:
CF Mario Dorta to NYM for 3B Chad Dyleski

                            Thoughts:

The Cubs had a lot of players come off the books, and they immediately went to work. They signed the most prized free agent in the class in CF Jo Adell. Adell has been on the Angels the last 6 years, and has a slashline of .291/.362/.549/.911

Adell has had three 40HR seasons, has 100 RBI in 4 seasons in a row, and is a stellar fielder. This left the Cubs with 4 OFer’s with Browning, Soto, Dorta, and Adell. The loss of Quick and Arenado opened a whole at 3B and the Cubs then traded CF Mario Dorta to the Mets for 3B Chad Dyleski. Dorta has been really good for the Cubs since coming over in the Anthony Rizzo trade in 2024. Dorta age 26 had his best season last year for the Cubs hitting .291/14HR/52RBI/39SB and plays great defense. The chance of signing Adell was too much to pass up for the Cubs.

Dylesk who is 27, was a top prospect in baseball for awhile, known for his massive power and good glove, but has found trouble getting on the field the last 2 years because of injury and Vlad Jr’s arrival in New York. His best season came in 2025 where he hit .255/35HR/110RBI for the Mets. The Cubs will have him man 3rd base with Sano/Arenado gone. The Cubs will now move Devin Jackson back to 1B with the loss of them as well.

The Cubs also lost Berrios, who had been a star for the Cubs in his tenure. The Cubs were able to go with a cheaper and younger option in Danny Rosenberg who has pitched in the MLB since age 20 with the Rockies. Rosenberg, now 26 will not strike batters out, but in 207 MLB starts has a 3.55ERA and a 70-65 record. The lefty will slot into the #2 spot in the rotation behind Serrano.

Cardinals to move Tyler Jay by trade deadline

The Cardinals are in first place in the National League Central. They have the best record in the National League. Yet, with 3 days to go until the July 31st trade deadline, the Cardinals are going to be "sellers".

The Cardinals are looking to move Tyler Jay who has become a distraction in the clubhouse since it was made known that Roberto Osuna would hold the closer duties. Jay and Osuna were sharing the role for part of the season, but about mid-June the Cardinals decided they would give Osuna the role and Jay would be a setup man alongside Jordan Hicks. Jay became frustrated and that frustration has apparently boiled over to the point that its effecting Jay's performance on the field and the rest of the clubhouse.

The bullpen which had been strong much of the season has become a train wreck post all-star break when Jay's frustrations spilled over and his performance had become poor. He has yet to have an outing he doesn't allow a run and has yet to finish any outing he's started since the break. That frustration is spreading into the rest of the bullpen and the staff as well, to the point where the front office and manager Mike Matheny have decided that Jay just needs to be given a new opportunity somewhere else.

After Saturday's game against the Cubs where Jay exploded yet again, allowing the Cubs to stretch a 1 run lead to a 3 run lead after giving up 2 homeruns on 3 hits, the Cardinals informed Jay that he would be moved either via trade or granted outright release. He will not be with the club for Sunday's series finale as he was designated for assignment.

Jay was given a new 4 year deal this past offseason after his addition to the pen really was a steady hand for a rocking ship. But now, things are past the point of repair and the best course of action for both the club and Jay is a mutual parting of the ways.

What happens now remains to be seen, but there is undoubtedly a huge market for Tyler Jay's services amongst the other 29 clubs.
I can't shave with my eyes closed, meaning each day I have to look at myself in the mirror and respect who I see.

I miss the old days of Operation Sports :(
