          Cardinals split series with Cubs

The Cardinals split their 4 game series with the 2nd place Cubs over the weekend and maintain a 5 game lead over the Chicago Northsiders.

The Cardinals won the first two games of the series behind strong pitching from Michael Wacha and Junior Fernandez. Wacha's victory on Thursday earned him his 10th win of the season, as the Cardinals now have 3 starting pitchers with double digit wins (Funkhouser and Fernandez with 11, Wacha with 10)

Kyle Funkhouser was solid in his start but the bullpen was unable to hold the lead the Cardinals built as Tyler Jay blew up in the 7th costing the Cardinals the lead and the win. Jack Flaherty started the series finale on Sunday afternoon but was roughed up thru 5 innings marking the 3 time in a row Flaherty has failed to get thru 5 innings, a growing concern for Matheny.

J.J. Bleday was the player of the series offensively as he recorded 6 hits in 9 trips to the plate including a homerun and 3 doubles. He drove in 5 runs this series. Nolan Gorman on the other hand had a series to forget going just 1 for 11 this series with 6 punchouts. He also committed 2 errors.

The Cardinals will be back in action Monday night as they travel to Milwaukee to face the Brewers for a 3 game series that will conclude the month of July.

Re: MLB The Show 20 Franchise Discussion Thread

I started a franchise on The Show 18 with my Orioles. I just finished Year 4 - 2021. Playing every single game.

            2018 - 52 wins
            2019 - 68 wins
            2020 - 80 wins
2021 - 102 wins and best record in the league.

After first week of August, I honestly thought I was going to break the record for most win in a season. It looked like I could win 120 games this season. Well after starting August off with a 11 game win streak. My offense went cold. Chris Davis at 35 was in the running for MVP. He had a .344 AVG, 40 HR, 103 RBI....well to show how cold my offense went he finished with a .311 AVG, 43 HR, 111 RBI over the final month and a half.

I easily won my ALDS match up vs the Rays 3-1, but they I went against Oakland and their Left Handed pitching on Sean Manea, Jose Quianta, Jesus Luzardo. Lost every game against them. Ended up losing the series 4-2.

Oakland ends up getting swept by the Rockies.

I thought this was going to be my first sports championship in a LONG time in any game and just like that it was taken from me. I was upset all weekend lol.

              The Amazins

Mets Lose 3 of 4 to Phillies
              May 23, 2024

The Mets kicked off their 10-game road-trip on the wrong foot, losing 3 of 4 to the rival Phillies.

The Mets only win came in Game 3 with Noah Syndergaard on the mound. Syndergaard allowed a single and a home run to open up the game, but was unhittable afterwards. The Mets would go on to win 5-2.

In the series finale, the Mets ran into a buzzsaw in Xavier Taylor. The young righty has really come into his own this year, and he blew through the Mets lineup for 7 innings, striking out 10 and only giving up 4 hits. Michael Conforto would hit his 10th home run of the year, a solo shot, in the top of the 9th, but it was too little too late and the Mets would fall 2-1.

The Mets (32-22) now head to Milwaukee to take on the Brewers (28-26). The rest of this road trip is crucial as the Mets NL East lead has shrunk to just 1 game over the Marlins, and that's who they'll be facing to kick off June.

I’ve just thrown my second ever perfect game!! Threw one with Stroman three years ago and finally got another.

Tanner Roark went perfect with 6 strikeouts against the Red Sox.

                What a feeling!!

Cardinals trade Tyler Jay to Red Sox

Shortly after designating Tyler Jay for assignment, the Cardinals have struck a trade deal with the Red Sox.

The Cardinals will send Jay to the Red Sox for prospects, highlighted by LHP Jose Alvarado. Alvarado is 28 years old and has pitched 20 innings at the big league level this year with an ERA of 4.45 and a WHIP just over 1.2. He has recorded 31 strikeouts in those 2 innings. Alvarado will likely be optioned to Memphis for the remainder of the Triple A affiliates regular season and has a chance to join the Cardinals in September when the rosters expand to 28.

Jay signed a 4 year $44MM deal with the Cardinals this past offseason, but things didn't go according to Jay's plan and long story short, frustration has spilled over and Jay needed a change of scenary.

Today is the trade deadline and its unclear if the Cardinals will make any additional moves. They could target another bat off the bench to go along with Paul DeJong as Tommy Edman, while providing speed and a steady glove, doesn't provide much in the hitting department.

Trade deadline passes with Cardinals not making move

The trade deadline has come and gone and the Cardinals do not make any additional moves. The Cardinals currently hold the best record in the National League and lead the division by 6 games over the Cubs. They made a move earlier to acquire Yoan Moncada from the Angels and recently traded Tyler Jay to the Red Sox for LHP Jose Alvarado who is currently in Memphis.

It was thought the Cardinals could target another bench player to replace a struggling Tommy Edman, but the Cardinals chose to keep Edman for now and use minor league depth (Chris Taylor) to fulfill any changes.

They could've also targeted starting pitcher with Josh Rogers struggling and Jack Flaherty, but again will turn to their current depth (Dakota Hudson or Austin Warner) to fulfill any changes.

Re: MLB The Show 20 Franchise Discussion Thread

In Spring-Training of 2022. I'm at the point where I don't fully rely on real world transactions. I followed for most part from 2018-2020, with my own spin since I control all 30 teams.

Anyway I spent the entire day making a Top 200 Prospects list for the game. Tedious process but I enjoyed the entire thing.

I would rank the Top 30 based on players who would've moved up in Baseball America Top 100 (2020) list. I then randomized 31-100 between a group of players, then redo the process for 101-150, then 151-200.

                        Randomized Potential Ratings:

                        Top 20 - 90 - 99
                        21-100 - 89 - 90
                        101-125 - 85-78
                        126-200 - 79-75

So I ended up making a trade of Yordan Alvarez in off-season to the Reds (I've had him since 2018 - before he blew up). He has 4 Years on control and value of about 100 million. After I made the trade I felt like I didn't get value for him to warrant the trade.

However once I created the updated Top Prospects list, I received from the Reds:

                        #38 - Hunter Greene (85 Potential)
                        #65 - Andrew Painter - 2020 Draft Pick (85 Potential)
                        #80 - Rece Hinds (82 Potential)
Lyon Richardson - 22 Year Pitcher

The Indians have 10 Player in the Top 200, with 7 in the Top 100. After making moves in 2020/2021.

                        #6 CJ Abrams
                        #9 Greyson Rodriguez
                        #20 Nolan Gorman
                        #24 Jack Lieter
                        #29 Tyler Freeman
                        #45 Robert Hassell
                        #82 Carson Tucker

Cardinals activate Harrison Bader from IL

The Cardinals have activated OF Harrison Bader from the 10 day IL after he was placed there 2 weeks ago for forearm strain.

Bader who is struggling a bit at the plate this year, will return to the lineup tomorrow afternoon against the Brewers in the series finale.

Connor Capel was optioned back to Memphis in a corresponding move.

Yankees Win 2 Of 3 Vs Rays, 3 of 4 Vs Blue Jays

We took care of business the last 4 games knocking the second place Jays back to 9 games behind us as we near the start of September. SP Domingo German was optioned to AAA after giving up 7 runs over 3.1 IP vs Toronto. Jonathan Loaisiga will be the next man up to get a shot at that 5th starter spot.

The Yankees will receive a huge boost as Aaron Judge has just been activated from the IL. Judge has been sidelined since July 18th and will return in time to kick off a 2 game set with the Orioles on August 25th. Prior to his injury he had a line of 294\373\570, with a 943 OPS and 27 HR’s.
OF Mike Tauchman has been optioned to AAA to open a roster spot for Judge

Next up: We stay at home and play two Vs 39-91 Baltimore followed by a off day. Then, we hit the road and head to Cleveland for 3 games Vs the 90-40 Indians to end August.

                                May 26, 2024

Rafael Devers and the Mets finished the job in Milwaukee today with a 4-0 victory in the series finale. A 3-run shot by Devers in the top of the 6th was the difference maker.

Amir Garrett recorded his second lights out start in a row - 7IP, 4H, 8K, 0BB and a W. He's finally starting to look like the player the Mets thought they were getting when they signed him to a 3yr/$33mil deal this offseason.

RHP Julio Alvarez pitched a scoreless 8th inning in the veteran's first game since being recalled from Triple-A Syrcause. After being sent down due to lack of performance, he was recalled when Nick Burdi took a line drive off the head and fractured his skull.

The Mets head to Arizona tomorrow to take on the Diamondbacks in a 3-game series before a day off. Then they'll be squaring off the Marlins to kick off the month of June.

C Luke Wray Optioned to Syracuse, Fabregas Recalled

24 year old backup C Luke Wray was sent down after today's 4-0 win against the Brewers. He was 0-3, and is hitting just .127 with 2 HR and 3 RBI in 55 AB so far this season. Unfortunately for Wray, his glove is worse than his bat, and it's hard to argue keeping a poor defensive catcher on the roster when he's not hitting either.

The Mets were hoping that Wray would be a powerful bat off the bench to spell Jonathan Lucroy, but the rookie has been anything but. Heading into this season, Wray was pegged as the Mets catcher after this season and Lucroy's contract came up, but that is no longer the case. The "catcher of the future" position is open for the taking.

Eddy Fabregas is being called up in Wray's place for his first Major League action. Down in Triple-A Syracuse, the 27 year old is hitting .333 with 6 HR, 23 RBI, and 10 SB in 135 AB. The knock on Fabregas, like Wray, is that his glove is below average. The Mets are hopeful that his bat can provide more than enough value to keep him around. Fabregas will wear #50.
