Re: Official MLB 20 the Show Trade Discussion Thread

Currently entering June in 30 team control. A’s off to a hot start with the best record in MLB. Could use a SP upgrade to make a run in the postseason. The bullpen for them has been phenomenal but have multiple starters close to a 5.0 era. Only teams out of it at 15 GB are San Fran, STL, and KC.

Best option I see for the As as trade would be to get Smyly (SF) or Duffy (KC). Smyly appears to be the best fit as a rental with a 7M salary for this year. Also playing well with a 3.25 ERA. Currently have his value around 10M surplus. So probably looking for a guy that is borderline top 100 or worse prospect wise.

Any thoughts on Kaprielian or Gossett? Or should I look elsewhere in their system for a better fit?

He has all the makings of an elite bullpen guy, he just hasn't been a closer yet.

Also, I don't really follow the Yankees, but didn't German briefly threaten to retire?
I don’t really know what the deal is with German. I don’t know how the Yankees value him and I don’t know the other teams feel about it in that much. But if you look past the domestic violence stuff, he’s not a bad option for a team with a limited payroll. I was thinking Garcia and Florial might be the real get here and German is more lotto ticket.

I guess I just struggle with valuing Garrett. Garcia and Florial is probably the majority of a Sonny Gray deal but that leave it at just German for Garrett. And Yankees fans of all teams should understand how team controlled LHP relievers can return pretty huge returns in a trade (See Andrew Miller and Chapman).

To my the best of my knowledge, the Reds have done pretty well at keeping their noses clean/avoiding controversies...it would seem weird for them to take German, who seems to be in a pretty weird space mentally, not to mention the domestic violence stuff.

Is it wrong of me to think that Houston would be a perfect landing spot for him? They're not great with the old public relations game, so they might as well keep diggin' that hole

For people trying to trade for elite players, here is a good resource to see some of the most valuable guys in baseball. 1-10 will be posted tomorrow.

This installment in the Trade Value series features, among others, a rookie on a team-friendly, pre-debut extension, and a top prospect who has yet to play above A-ball.

This is what I always use.

To go along with it, google "surplus calculator draysbay" and the first link should take you to a surplus calculator that has 10 year worth of information on it.

Plug in the information of a player with the correct years and you get a quick value on a player. You just have to guess how much money a player should be making in Pre-Arb and Arb years.

You'll get numbers for "Value, Discount Value, Surplus. Discount Surplus"

Official MLB 20 the Show Trade Discussion Thread

Looking to make a final deadline deal in my Jays Franchise. Just a few days away. Noticed some rumours regarding the Angels and wondered if this deal was even or if I have to edit it for either side.

Jays get: Simmons, Castro, LaStella, Bundy (26.9)
Angels get: O. Martinez, Tellez, Murphy, Zeuch (26.4)

One thing to note is Tellez is hitting 28 homers so far at the break. I am first in the league in homers so could sacrifice that to improve other areas of need.

Because Tellez is hitting so well, could I command more, or is this likely it?

I'm playing as the Diamondbacks and am exiting trades for Zac Gallen. He's young and very highly rated, but I find him so difficult to pitch with. I have more success with my lower rated guys like Luke Weaver simply because their meter and release are easier to control.

All of the following trades would be accepted by the CPU. Are any of them realistic/reasonable returns?

                    1. DBacks get - 3B David Bote, SE Nico Hoerner, C Miguel Amaya

Cubs get - SP Zac Gallen

                    2. DBacks get - CF Tyler Naquin, RP Emmanuel Classe, 2B Ryne Birk

Indians get - SP Zac Gallen

                    3. DBacks get - SP Brad Keller, C MJ Melendez, 3B Kelvin Gutierrez

Royals get - SP Zac Gallen

                    4. DBacks get - LF Kyle Tucker, SP Forrest Whitley

Astros get - SP Zac Gallen, LF Seth Beer, 3B Wyatt Mathisen

I like the Astros trade. It works out fair on the trade calculator but I don't know if it's too much.

Everyone of those trades would be accepted IRL. The Cleveland trade would lead to a congressional investigation.

So you're saying I can get more lol?

Is it just implausible/unrealistic that Arizona would trade Gallen in the first place?

Diamondbacks wouldn't trade Zac Gallen. If even if they were

Astros would hang up the second you said Kyle.

Cubs would laugh in your face.

Cleveland and Kansas city would laugh in your face because they just the Diamondbacks off. (Type of trade that gets a GM fired)

Zac Gallen was traded in a prospect for prospect deal last year. Therefore:

The Cubs aren't trading David Bote (Team friendly contract) Utility guy, Nico Hoerner whose the starting 2B, and there #3 prospect for Zac Gallen.

The Astros who are low on any future players due to losing draft picks last year and this year, are not trading there starting OF (whose been untouchable in trade talks since he was drafted) or a future #1-#2 SP for Zac Gallen

The Royals and Indians would 100% jump on those trades for Zac Gallen.

                                Got it, thanks!

I don't really follow much baseball so didn't realise Gallen was only acquired last year. I'll hold onto him for that reason. Cheers!
