Minnesota Twins 2021 April Review: Fresh New Beginings
The season did not start ideal for the Twin Cities franchise. Losing the first two games of the season to Milwaukee before getting their first W. Minnesota finished the month on a 3 game win streak behind the string pitching staff and are 15-11, which is good enough for 2nd place behind the surging 17-10 Chicago White Sox. Minnesota has a combined 2.6 ERA led by Kent Maeda's 1.44 ERA. The hitting has been equally impressive as the ball has been flying out of the park. A team total of 31 HR's Donaldson(6), Cruz(6) Buxton(4). Miguel Sano is on the opposite end of the spectrum as he sits at 25 strikeouts and a .213 avg. A far cry from the once herald prospect, but still young enough that The Twins will continue to give him every opportunity to prosper. He's playing 1st currently as Nelson Cruz at 40 yrs of age is the logical DH.

Around The League: Windy City Streaking While The White Sox have been impressive leading the AL Central, on the other side of town, The Chicago Cubs lead the Majors with an 18-8 record behind a dominating pitching staff of Kyle Hendricks and Jake Arrieta. With a combined 8-0 record and 2.2 ERA. Closer Rowan Wick has an impressive 8 saves on the early season and has yet to allow a run.
Adalberto Mondesi of the Kansas City Royals has fans cheering as he already has a league leading 16 stolen bases.

Cardinals sweep Tigers in mini 2 game series

The Cardinals have swept the Tigers in a mini 2 game mid-week series and now have a 1/2 game lead over the Braves for the 2nd wildcard spot. The Padres have the top spot by 10+ games at the moment.

The Cardinals trail the Brewers by 7 1/2 games as they still have 10 games with the BrewCrew before seasons end.

Yadier Molina continues to swing a hot bat as he has now hit safely in 12 straight games and has continued even though being sidelined 2 games with a bruised finger.

The Cardinals will now travel to Pittsburgh for a 4 game weekend series with the Pirates before heading to Cincinnati at the beginning of the week to end the month.

Cardinals place Jack Flaherty on 15 Day IL with back spasms

The Cardinals have placed Jack Flaherty on the 15 day IL with back issues. Flaherty (11-6) left in the 2nd inning of Wednesday's start against the Tigers.

Bad timing for the Cardinals as they are battling the Braves for the 2nd wildcard spot and are trying to make one last late charge to catch the Brewers in the division.

Kodi Whitley was recalled from Memphis to fill the void in the pitching staff. Miles Mikolas will take the rotation spot.

Our first showdown with the Mets didn't go well.

New York won the first game, 5-2. They got to Soroka early, although he managed to go five innings to help the bullpen. A d'Arnaud two-run homer was our only offense.

The second game was dominated by deGrom. He gave up only two hits - both to Austin Riley, and the Mets offense battered Fried in an 8-0 win for New York.

Fortunately, we salvaged the third game, winning 8-3. Riley, who's been well below the Mendoza line all year, stayed hot with a pair of doubles, including a key two-RBI one in the third that was nearly a three-run homer. Acuña hit his 100th career homer and Freeman added some cushion with a three-run bomb in the seventh.

We're 25-18, 2.5 games behind the Mets in the East. Philly and Washington are both at .500. Milwaukee leads the Central and LA leads the West. The Reds and Padres are in both the division and wild-card hunts in this early part of the season.

In the AL, the Yankees already have a commanding lead in the East. The White Sox hold a narrow edge over the Twins in the Central and Houston leads the West.

The Pirates come to Truist Park for a four-game series, so hopefully we can get some momentum going against them.

Luis Castillo pitched 8 2/3 innings of perfect ball against the Rockies and then gives up a single with 2 strikes on a pitch hitter. I'm not sure when the last time I've been so mad at a video game but I definitely said things that I'm thankful no one could hear since I was in the basement.

Yeah, again, 2 outs in the 9th with 2 strikes, then a single. No perfect game, no no hitter. 😡😡😡

TIGERS WALK OFF WHITE SOX 4-3

Jonathan Schoop homered, and drove in two, including the game winning run in the 9th, as the Tigers won their 15th straight game, 4-3 over the White Sox.

Jose Urena started for the Tigers in place of Tarik Skubal, in a designed move to skip the rookie's rotation spot. Urena pitched well, going 6.1 innings, and allowing just 3 runs on 5 hits. Paul Corba, Daniel Norris, and Jose Cisnero combined for 2.2 innings of scoreless relief. Cisnero picked up the win, his 3rd of the season. Dylan Cease started for the White Sox, and went 5 innings, allowing 2 runs on 5 hits.

The White Sox opened the scoring in the 2nd, on an RBI single by Yasmani Grandal. Schoop tied the game in the bottom of the 4th, with a solo home run, his 17th of the season. Nomar Mazara would give the Tigers the lead, on an RBI single to center, scoring Miguel Cabrera.

Luis Robert tied the game in the top of the 5th, with his first of two home runs on the day. A Willi Castro sac fly put the Tigers back on top briefly in the 6th, but Robert's second home run of the game, his 9th of the season, tied it in the top of the 7th.

In the bottom of the 9th, Schoop laced a single down the left field line, scoring Robbie Grossman, and giving the Tigers a 4-3 win. The win improves the Tigers record to an unbelievable 74-10.

Texas Rangers Update (MOM) Season 1 update

Season 1 is in the books and although it was a surprisingly good season for your Rangers it was also a disappointment. With 9 games remaining in the season and just 3 games out of the last wild card, Texas had a chance to get in the playoffs. We were chasing the Indians and our last series was against them. Before that series though we proceeded to lose 6 consecutive games to the Orioles and Angels, meaning the series meant nothing. We finished the season at 83-79, 1 game out of the wild card, yes we swept the Indians.

Notes:
The World Champions in year 1 was the New York Mets. They defeated the Chicago White Sox in 6 games. 4 teams won over 100 games and none of them reached the World Series. The Mets won only 84 games and went on a roll in the playoffs.

My Leaders were
Joey Gallo HR 37/ RBI 74
Michael Brantley Hits 167
Gibson and Yang tied in wins with 13

Notable Seasons

MVP Mike Trout and E. Suarez. Trout led the Majors in hitting, RBI's. HR and runs scored. He hit 383 with 57 HR's 141 RBI's and scored 141 Runs. Zac Greinke was the only 20 game winner and Josh Hader had 62 saves.

Offseason:
We signed Anthony Rizzo in Free Agency as we look to build on last years success. Going in to 2022 here is an early look before Spring Training

C- Randy Florentino/ Andrew Knapp (Florenetino hit 253 as a 20 year old prospect in the majors for Texas last year)
1B- Rizzo/ Lowe: Lowe hit over 300 last year but was hurt allot of the season
2B- Solak returns with Guillorme also returning: Nick hit 270 with 19 HR's last year
SS: IKF is Back after an injury plagued year 1
3B- Brought back Brock Holt after a solid 280 season last year
LF- Michael Brantley: Had a great season after the trade
CF- David Dahl
RF- Joey Gallo

Pitching looks almost the same as we had a pretty good season.

Cards place Yadier Molina on 10 Day IL

Another blow to the Cardinals who are in a heated battle with the Braves for the 2nd wildcard spot as games left to play decline under 30.

Yadier Molina was placed on the 10 Day IL with a knee ligament sprain. Molina was injured in the 5th inning of Friday nights game against the Pirates as he went 1st to 3rd on a double by Tyler O'Neill.

Molina has been on a tear since returning from the IL and had hit in 14 consecutive games. He's expected to miss about 2 weeks.

Ivan Herrera was recalled from Memphis to take the backup catcher role behind Andrew Knizner.

Yeah I doubt I'll be able to keep pace with the Dodgers myself, but confident I'll eventually run away with the first wild card spot.
