2021 Baltimore Orioles September 14th-16
Overall Record:84-62 (2nd AL East)
Baltimore drops two out of three to Yankees.
The Orioles home woes continue as they dropped two out of three games to the New York Yankees. The team's overall home record for the season now sits at 36-38. Oddly enough, Baltimore has the best away record (48-24). It almost seems like the Orioles would be better off with out any kind of home field advantage in the playoffs if they make it.
The series with the Yankees started off well enough with a 5-3 win behind a solid game by Matt Harvey and decent hitting on offense. In game two, the Orioles were able to knock three balls out of the park (Mountcastle, Ruiz and Valaika) but the Yankees had five homeruns of their own (Vizcaino, Urshela, Judge and Frazier (2) in route to a 8-3 victory. Game three was more a pitchers duel but Stanton's 49th home of the season gave the Yankees the 3-1 victory.
The teams have now switched positions in the standings with the Yankees now the proud owner of a half game lead in the AL East. The Orioles will have to match and surpass the Yankees performances over the last few weeks of the season if they want to win the division. Baltimore does currently sit atop the AL wild card standings with a four game advantage over the Athletics who in turn hold a one and a half game lead over the Minnesota Twins.
The Orioles will thankfully head to Boston for a three game series while the Yankees will return home for a series against the Cleveland Indians.
