    2021 Baltimore Orioles September 14th-16

    Overall Record:84-62 (2nd AL East)

Baltimore drops two out of three to Yankees.

The Orioles home woes continue as they dropped two out of three games to the New York Yankees. The team's overall home record for the season now sits at 36-38. Oddly enough, Baltimore has the best away record (48-24). It almost seems like the Orioles would be better off with out any kind of home field advantage in the playoffs if they make it.

The series with the Yankees started off well enough with a 5-3 win behind a solid game by Matt Harvey and decent hitting on offense. In game two, the Orioles were able to knock three balls out of the park (Mountcastle, Ruiz and Valaika) but the Yankees had five homeruns of their own (Vizcaino, Urshela, Judge and Frazier (2) in route to a 8-3 victory. Game three was more a pitchers duel but Stanton's 49th home of the season gave the Yankees the 3-1 victory.

The teams have now switched positions in the standings with the Yankees now the proud owner of a half game lead in the AL East. The Orioles will have to match and surpass the Yankees performances over the last few weeks of the season if they want to win the division. Baltimore does currently sit atop the AL wild card standings with a four game advantage over the Athletics who in turn hold a one and a half game lead over the Minnesota Twins.

The Orioles will thankfully head to Boston for a three game series while the Yankees will return home for a series against the Cleveland Indians.

Cardinals sweep Cubs to sit atop NL Central Division

The Cardinals (86-56) swept the Cubs to begin the week and are now 2 games clear of the Brewers for the NL Central Division lead.

The Cardinals pitching was on point this series as they shut down the Cubs bats to the tune of just 3 total runs over the 3 games. While the Cards bats weren't much better, they were able to get enough timely hits to secure the sweep, including Goldschmidt's walkoff single in the 11th on Tuesday, and Marwin Gonzalez's grand slam in the 8th of the Wednesday finale.

The Cardinals are off on Thursday and will welcome the surging Padres to Busch Stadium for a 3 game weekend series. The Padres have won 7 in a row and have climbed back into striking distance of the wildcard.

Max Scherzer, Kwang Hyun Kim, and Jake Odorizzi will get the ball for the series.

Carlos Martinez out for season with calf injury

Carlos Martinez will be shelved for the rest of the regular season, and postseason if Cards qualify, after suffering a calf injury prior to his expected start on Wednesday.

Martinez has struggled with productivity and injuries this year after having a stellar 2020 campaign that awarded him a 4 year deal this past offseason. But Martinez is just 5-9 this year with a plus 5 ERA and he has spent time on IL, in the bullpen, and in Memphis trying to re-find the magic he had last season.

Dakota Hudson was recalled from Memphis to fulfill the vacant roster spot. Hudson has struggled at the big leagues as well, but has been in Memphis for the past two months to where he's pitched to a 4-1 record with sub 2 ERA.

My goal was to build a team that was more offensively consitent and better defensively. Taylor was my top target along with signing Baez. Right now, McNeil is sort of blocked with Confoto Returning, but those things have a way of sorting themselves out.

Nimmo, Javy, Pete, Lindor are shaping up to be my core, with Lowe, Baty, Alvarez and Mauricio waiting in the wings to take over CF/RF, 3B, 2b/3B and Catcher in the future

Pitching wise, I also brought back Hill, who will get the first shot at the 5th SP spot over peterson and megill. Fairbanks and Poche (I got poche in the Rule 5) will help the BP, and let Drew Smith get more time in the minors.

Now at the series before the ASB in 22. I am 48-38, sitting 8 games behind Atlanta.

Braves offensively have become a juggernaut. Leading MLB in runs and have over 50 more than the 2nd team. Austin Riley and Freddie Freeman are duking it out for MVP, Pham has been a huge addition and Acuna, Albies etc are all doing their normal. They will be hard to catch

We have had some underperformance but are fighting. Alonso has been great, Lindor has had a strong bounce back season, Chris Taylor has been a solid if not spectacular addition. JD Davis has also bounced back.

Besides them, we have a lot of guys struggling. Baez has been horrible, Conforto has been irrelevant and McNeil has been barely playable. McCann is more of the same, low average with some pop. Nimmo was playing great again but went down with a torn calf, now out 2 months.

Pitching wise, deGrom as been fantastic, leading the CY Young Candidacy and is an MVP candidate. Cookie Carrasco has also been great, a very solid #2. Stroman and Walker have been up and down, and are struggling of late.

The BP has been a mixed bag, with Fairbanks and Diaz being the 2 main catalysts.

We will need to add some offense, as we are sitting 18th in the MLB in runs, which will once again be the focus of the deadline plans along with a BP arm or 2.

A few notable trades around the league:
          • Salvador Perez to SD for Robert Hassell and Ben Ruta
          • Zack Greinke to BAL for Jordan Westburg
          • Seth Brown to BOX for Jarren Duran
          • Jose Berrios to OAK for Sean Manaea, Thairo Estrada and Danny Santana
          • John Means to Tor for Adam Kloffenstein and Brian Navaretto

We will see come the rest of July what happens, will update then

For those who aren't aware, I'm still playing MLB 20 because there's a lot of things I really love about that game over MLB 21. I didn't play MLB 21 that much this year, maybe 10-20 games. However, I'm curious to hear from those on here that run deep franchises, what are some of the main differences in MLB 21? What do you like about it better than MLB 20? I would imagine when MLB 22 drops, I'll probably cave and re-start a franchise.

              2021 Baltimore Orioles September 17th-19th

Overall Record 85-64 (1st AL EAST)

O's drop series to Red Sox

Much like the previous series against the Yankees, the Baltimore Orioles won the first game (11-5) before dropping games two and three against the Red Sox. Luckily, the Yankees were swept by the AL Central leading Cleveland Indians. With the results from this weekend's series, the Orioles again lead the AL East by a staggering half game.

In the series, a three run eighth and a six run ninth gave the Orioles the victory in game one. Games two and three saw three run homers by J.D. Martinez and Xander Bogaerts push the Red Sox to the series victory. 8-7 and 5-3.

In what is the tightest division race, the Orioles will head to Philadelphia for a three game series with the Phillies while the Yankees remain at home for a three game series of their own against the Texas Rangers.

First and foremost I prefer the gameplay of '21 over '20.

As for franchise mode the budget system is better thus allowing teams to have the financial flexibility to sign multiple high dollar players, I think the trade logic is better, the expanded rosters to 93 helps thin out the free agent market in the offseason, the CPU will release and sign players throughout the season, the presentation is better, and I think the AI roster building has taken another positive step.

                  September 6, 2020 | CHICAGO, IL

Albert Almora Jr. belted a three-run homer in the bottom of the ninth off of former Cubs reliever Pedro Strop, but the four-run final frame was not enough as the Cubs winning streak was ended Sunday afternoon in a loss to the Cincinnati Reds, 6-5.

"We have had a lot of success lately and losing a nail-biter like this doesn't begin to take away from that," said Cubs slugger Kyle Schwarber. "We're strung together a lot of wins lately and we just have to continue the pace we're on heading into the last few weeks of the season."

The Cubs trailed 3-1 after six innings and found themselves behind 6-1 entering the bottom of the ninth. But a late rally nearly pushed the Cubs winning streak to 11 games. Jon Lester tossed five innings and took the loss, falling to 11-9 on the year. Reds hurler Sonny Gray improved to 6-11 on the year, striking out six batters over seven innings of work. Despite giving up the three-run homer to Alber Almora Jr., Reds closer Pedro Strop notched his 27th save of the year.

The Cubs, who have already secured a playoff birth, sit just a few wins shy of clinching the National League central division. With their magic number at just 3, it's likely they will clinch the division as they begin a seven game road trip that starts with four in Colorado against the Rockies followed by a three game set in St. Louis against the Cardinals.

For me, it's all about the gameplay. Playing All-Star and Hall of Fame on 20, the game was just too heavy on offense for my taste. I hate messing with sliders, but I finally nerfed hitting and buffed pitching on AS to get it to a relatively good spot for me.

I'm playing default AS on 21, and it's been nearly perfect for me. I'm also playing Competitive instead of Simulation. I have no idea how much, if any, impact that has had for me. My theory is Competitive gives the CPU a little more juice in terms of difficulty. The game still feels like a simulation to me.

Franchise is pretty similar to last year. I do like the simpler budget system. And the CPU was more active making trades. I'm also one of the few that actually likes the new UI better.

MLB 21 will be my last baseball game on the PS4. When I buy a PS5, I'll get the new game, but I'm in no rush to get a PS5.

Akins' big day gives O's series victory

Maybe its best the Orioles dont win the first game of the series. The Orioles faced off against the Phillies in a three game cross league three game series and won the last two games after losing the first game of the set. The series lacked a lot of offensive production as the games finished 2-1 in favor of the Phillies 4-3 for the O's and 5-1 in favor of Baltimore.

The series was highlighted for the O's by a masterful third game performance by Keegan Akin as he pitched a complete game while allowing just one run and striking out nine. He also went 2-4 at the plate with a RBI.

The Yankees swept the Rangers and as a result, took the ever famous half game lead in the AL East. The Orioles will return home for a four game series against the same team in Texas while the Yankees head to Boston for a three game series with the Sox.

On ps5 (PlayStation in general) you point your left stick toward the base a runner occupies and hit LB. For example, you have a runner on third and second and a ball is hit to the outfield. Both runners tag up but you only want your third base runner to try for the next base. You point your left thumb stick toward third and as the ball is caught, you hit LB and the third base runner tags up and heads home while the second base runner stays put.

                              Second everything you said

on next gen too, the gameplay is fantastic. It feels great and looks awesome. I definitely think the CPU is better at roster management and a lot of the trades make more sense (not always) than in past games.

The fielding on next gen too to me is the best part.

                                Cardinals drop series to Padres

The Cardinals (87-58) dropped two of three games to the Padres over the weekend and are once again tied with the Brewers atop the NL Central with 17 games left to play for each team.

The Cardinals avoided the sweep by winning Sunday's finale 5-3 thanks in part to Arenado and DeJong who accounted for all 5 runs batted in.

The Cardinals received a scare Sunday when Tommy Edman left the game with an arm injury, but its just a bruise and he'll be day to day.

The Cardinals are off on Monday as they travel to New York for a 3 game series with the Mets who sit atop the wild card and are just 3 games back of the Phillies in the NL East.
I can't shave with my eyes closed, meaning each day I have to look at myself in the mirror and respect who I see.

I miss the old days of Operation Sports :(
