Re: MLB The Show Trade Discussion Thread
I had a Mariners franchise last summer where Shed Long Jr. was pretty much the same for me.
Marte to Philly is tight. I like that move. I feel like the other day the Phillies output from CF this season was below the Mendoza line, so upgrading there makes perfect sense.2025 Expos Expansion:https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets...gid=1295163793Comment

Re: MLB The Show Trade Discussion Thread
Glad to see some familiar faces back to this thread. I’ll be lurking / providing some input on Blue Jays deals this year. Will probably run some deals by you all closer to the deadline as I will be after a top rotation starter.

Re: MLB The Show Trade Discussion Thread
Would the Detroit Tigers trade Miguel Cabrera in real life?
I don’t want to trade him if he will retire as a Tiger.

Re: MLB The Show Trade Discussion Thread
Two completely separate questions, each of which are indirectly related to trading:
1. If you turn CPU roster control on, does the CPU continue to make moves such as trades, free agent signing, extensions, etc. and you just have the power to also make moves? Or will CPU teams not trade unless you do it for them?
2. Joey Votto is 37 years old, is currently being paid $22.5m, and is going to regress hard. Am I penalised at all (such as in the NFL with dead cap) if I trade him? (I understand that his contract will be impossible to trade so I'm mostly asking for future reference)
If I cut him, the game tells me the money I will owe him. Is this all I will have to pay out or am I penalised in addition for cutting him? If it tells me I have to pay Votto $8.5m in 2022 if I cut him, am I actually saving myself $14m dollars that I can spend elsewhere?Comment

Re: MLB The Show Trade Discussion Thread
They would love to trade him, but his contract makes him near impossible to trade. He’s still under contract for another 2 years making 32M a year. Only way he doesn’t retire a Tiger is if an ‘Angels Pujols’ situation happens where he decides to play out his contract but he’s hitting poorly enough and taking at bats from younger more deserving talent, so they just release him.
If you want to be realistic, you’re stuck with his contract until he retires.Comment

Re: MLB The Show Trade Discussion Thread
If another team came calling looking to take over the rest of Miggy’s contract even for just a bag of baseballs, Tigers execs would celebrate and want the deal finalized ASAP before the other team’s GM could come to their senses, they’d even cover the costs to have him flown out to his new team haha .

Thank you, this is what I wanted to know.

Re: MLB The Show Trade Discussion Thread
Is Kyle Lewis a centerpiece for the Mariners rebuild or he is able to be acquired via trade in real life?
If so, would the Mariners want pitching or hitting in return?

Re: MLB The Show Trade Discussion Thread
The chances that Seattle would move Lewis are extremely low. He's essentially the first sign of the end of the Mariners rebuild. Someone like Haniger could be available, but I don't see a reason why Seattle would move Lewis right now.2025 Expos Expansion:https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets...gid=1295163793Comment

2) The game doesn't do a great job with players being released. The actual rule is that when a team releases a player, they're on the hook for the entirety of the contract. So yes, in the game you're saving $14 mil.2025 Expos Expansion:https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets...gid=1295163793Comment

Re: MLB The Show Trade Discussion Thread
Kyle Lewis is not likely to be available via trade. He was the 2020 AL ROY. You might be able to acquire him via trade but it would cost an absolute fortune.Comment

If I'm trying to keep things realistic, do I need to hold onto him until the end of the contract? (Legend status aside)Comment

Re: MLB The Show Trade Discussion Thread
I'm happy that worked out for you, but that definitely is not the point of this threadComment

Re: MLB The Show Trade Discussion Thread
Would someone realistically do that for Votto? Absolutely not. First, the market for 1st basemen is virtually non-existent. Second, including this season, he's owed $75 mil, plus the $7 mil buyout on the 4th year option. I love Votto (Canadiannnnn), but there's just no way anyone would ever take him.
Personally, I think he's a Reds franchise icon, and that the most realistic way to go is to let the contract play out. He's been with the Reds for his entire career (unlike Pujols with the Angels). Plus, I always found him fun to hit with. If you are releasing him though, my beloved Blue Jays should be first in line to sign him to a league minimum deal, and have him retire up North2025 Expos Expansion:https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets...gid=1295163793Comment
