MLB The Show Trade Discussion Thread

Copy/paste from my post in the franchise thread because now that I think about it this is the more appropriate place to ask:

Anyone wanna give some thoughts on how to properly handle Michael Fulmer at this point?

Talking about starting a chise from scratch where he’s a SP with 87 stamina and B potential with a 92mph fastball, but there he is irl throwing 100mph out of the pen and closing games.

I don’t want real life to influence my decisions after my chise starts but before it starts I feel like this is a fairly large decision that needs to be made: ie what Fulmer actually is at this point.

    Any thoughts appreciated.

Do you think you're going to move him? Or are you planning on keeping him?

Fulmer is worth $6.5 mil in surplus value, with the high end being $7.8. I'd say if you're trading for him, you should hit the high end, whereas if you're trading him away, it's probably for that $6.5.

He's really got himself to the point where he's probably a better option (in real life) out of the pen. He's essentially Ross Stripling, where his effectiveness pretty much disappears after the first trip through the lineup. If it were me, I'd knock his stamina down to 45ish, and bump his FB speed up to 97ish. That way, you can still get 2-3 innings out of him where he's tossing that heat. I'd probably leave everything else where it is...

I don't really follow the Tigers very closely, so the jump in FB velocity is actually news to me. I had actually picked him up early in the season in my Jays franchise. My plan was to keep him in the rotation through the year (I feel like he's got a slightly above 4 ERA, and a 1.30ish WHIP), then *if* we made the playoffs (We DID!!! 2 series left in the regular season!!!) to shorten my rotation and put him in the pen, then probably leave him there for year 2, so, I'll probably do the same as I suggested above. Have to assume that his starting days are probably done at this point.

The only issue I'm going to run into here, and it definitely doesn't affect anyone but me, is that Ryu got hurt a couple of weeks ago, and is done for the season, leaving me with a pretty light rotation at this point

Re: MLB The Show Trade Discussion Thread

Wanted to get oppinions on the following trade:

        Rockies send:
Roberto Osuna (4 year deal, 12m per)
        Ryan McMahon, 1B
        2B prospect, B potential

        Cubs send:
        Kris Bryant

Felt like an underpay for Bryant, so I haven't saved yet, but the CPU loved it.

I mean, in real life Osuna has no value. If he did, someone who have signed him and he wouldn't be playing for the Diablos Rojos del México of the Mexican League. Also, if you signed him to a 4 year deal, you wouldn't be trading him away immediately if you were going for realism...

Regardless, assuming a $0 value for Osuna, Bryant is a free agent after this season. His surplus value is currently $12 mil. McMahon is worth $5.5. You pretty much have to put a name to the prospect for us to have any idea on a value for him. Letter potentials mean absolutely nothing, as you could have a B potential 27 year old who's got a 50 overall rating (there's plenty of those guys on a lot of rosters). Is it a created prospect? What's his age? Is he in your top 10 prospects? Is he a real person? If so, the Rockies currently have zero 2B prospects that are worth more than $3.3 mil, so you're pretty shy.

Re: MLB The Show Trade Discussion Thread

I'm just getting to May so its not clear if i'll be in the race or not but...

I was potentially looking at adding Story. It probably won't be the right move since I feel like I'll need a starter more than a bat. I have a platoon of Bote/Duffy/Sogard at 2nd currently; Bote got off to a horrible start but his BA has risen slowly, Duffy has been solid but I like him more in a reserve role and Sogard has hit but hasn't had enough at bats to know if it will last. I sent Hoerner to the minors but he hasn't hit well there so I don't want to call him up to fail. unless he goes on a tear in May and June looks like he'll be a late season guy I doubt I'll keep this core together after this season so why not add another expiring contract that I won't resign.

I have a roster that came out before Ridin's was done so I have some prospects that but also have a mix of created ones. I was thinking about potentially including Bote in the deal as he does offer a low cost, longer contract but with him hitting poorly would that really add much to matching Story's surplus? would i need to add 2 top 5/10 prospects in my system or maybe 1 and a mid level farm hand? I figured if I need one more bat Story could potentially finish the year at 2nd or I have him at 3rd when Bryant is in the OF.

two separate trades, both involve me trading trevor story at deadline, trade finder was used at deadline. wondering if either was realistic. not looking to fleece in my franchise

ss story for sp shane baz and 2b xavier edwards from rays
ss story for c patrick bailey and sp anthony banda from giants

The Rays are a pretty big overpay and don't make a ton of sense unless they're in serious contention and want to use him as a rental (their payroll likely won't support an extension + Wander is lurking). Something a bit closer to proper value would be Baz and SS Greg Jones (still an overpay slightly).
As for the Giants, they're in division, so to make it realistic they would be forking over a bit more in division- trade tax. Your package is a severe underpay and would need to add a piece like LHP Kyle Harrison or OF Hunter Bishop to balance it a bit more.

Will a player like Kevin Kiermaier become more or less valuable in the off-season? He is currently listed on Baseball Trade Values as -$11.5. He currently has two years, $23m left on his deal.

In the off-season, he will only have a year of control remaining, which I would imagine makes him less valuable. However, if you consider his contract to be negative value, he has less bad money left to pay, which would make him slightly more valuable (or at least decrease his negative value).

Will these things cancel out so that his value remains the same as it is currently? Or does one of these things affect value more than the other?

Mariners get Javier Baez. Cubs receive Brandon Williamson.

Trade simulator has this listed as a bit of an overpay on the Mariners part.

Re: MLB The Show Trade Discussion Thread

I’ve started a franchise with Toronto and it hasn’t gone too well in year 1. Currently last in the AL East and 2nd last in the wildcard standings.

One guy I want to move but I’m not sure if he has any value is Randall Grichuk. He has two years left after this year and he isn’t horrible, but I’m not a big fan of his and would like to run a Gurriel, Springer, Hernandez outfield leaving the DH spot for someone else. He is having a much better year in real life than in my franchise where his stats are as followed: 87 games, 13 hr, 45 rbi, .234 avg, .728 ops, 0.1 war, 76 OVR.

Can anybody think of a team that could use him? I looked quickly through and thought the Cubs, Pirates, Rockies, O’s or Tigers might be ok spots. I would definitely not be looking for much back, I would be ok with a lottery ticket or taking on a similar contract with less years left on it. (For example, I was looking at sending him to the Mets for Jeruys Famila since Conforto is out for the year in my franchise, but I’m not sure if that’s the best fit after this year)

It won’t let me search this thread for some reason so I apologize if Grichuk has been brought up before.

                          Thanks

in my 2nd franchise, prob my long term one (tigers) saw shane bieber in trade block so used trade finder offer. i was debating if i should try but he is 26, by the time im good he should still be in his prime. the offer was sp boyd, 3b torkelson and ss castro. i have another 3b prospect however he is a ways away ( 89 potential and currently 60 ovr at 19 yrs old).

does that make sense for them. i thought about a top level sp prospect instead of boyd but need some advice on that offer or another. . they are first place right now right after the draft so boyd kind of makes sense but if it would be more fair to send sp manning , i would do that.

it is the same division so trying to keep it somewhat realistic
