Re: MLB The Show Trade Discussion Thread

This is a good resource for anyone trying to attempt realistic trades with actual assessed value:

We use to have our own formula that a few of us had created. But that inevitably let to a lot of people thinking their own guys weren't being valued fairly. I've shifted over to this to get values and then I do a little independent research (contract, team situation, fit) before swinging deals.

I know usually we would give up less if we wait until the deadline.
Yup. I don't see why not. IMO, this gives the Rocks their SS of the future, a bit of controllable rotation help, and a young 3B/OF that should develop quite nicely.

Rockies ownership/management really bungled this one up. They should have moved him the second they got rid of Arenado.

Not really a response to the trade but I love that you're still in here helping people out with their franchises kinsmen. A lot of us have fallen off as of late.

Much appreciated! I still get a kick out of it. To be honest, and I've always found that it helps give me perspective on potential moves for teams that I don't really follow as much.

It took a lot of years, but I've finally got myself to the point where I'm running a franchise as my favorite team (Jays), and haven't felt guilty about any of the moves that I've made for myself, or the CPU. Sticking to this thread, and baseballtradevalues.com have really added a layer of difficulty that I always found that I was missing.

As far as I'm aware, most people who lurk or post in these kind of threads turn Force Trade on. I took a bit of a risk when I started my franchise and left them off.

There are countless potential trades that fall apart or don't get done in real life for any number of reasons. Just because the values line up, that doesn't mean that the trade will happen. I figured it would add even an extra layer of realism and difficulty to both make sure that the trades are fair and realistic (using this thread and the trade simulator) AND have the CPU agree to it without me having to force it.

The Trevor Story trade from a page or two back is a good example. The CPU wouldn't accept Garcia + Hinds + Santillan so I had to try to find a similar trade of equivalent value. Michael Siani and Reece Hinds are very close in value, so I swapped Siani in and the CPU was then happy to accept.

I would have been annoyed if I couldn't get the trade to go through at all but it added an extra element of difficulty, as well as an extra element of realism as the Rockies essentially got to build a trade package around the centrepiece that they were getting back, rather than simply having to accept whoever I wanted to send them.

That's awfully brave. I can't handle the AI trade engine at all, because it just bases everything off of in-game potential, and doesn't take into account the amount of team control the player has left (Though that could be different in 21...I'm still rolling with 20).

Or stupid. One of the two...

The trade engine is still woeful on '21. I made Jose Garcia a 99 OVR, 99 POT to see if they would accept the original trade and it still wouldn't go through.

I remember doing something similar a few years ago...had to sim ahead a day for the CPU to accept the ratings.

Two deals, I'm doing in my Franchise

                    Texas Receives:

                    SS - Trevor Story

                    Colorado Receives:

                    SS - Anderson Tejeda
                    2B - Justin Foscue
                    OF - Bayron Lora

This could have ended up as underpay on my part (Texas) but I felt good about the value going back on an expiring deal. My main goal here was to have first dibs at securing the Texas native (Story) on a long-term deal in Texas.

                    Oakland Receives:

                    2B - Whit Merrifield
                    RP - Danny Duffy

                    Kansas City Receives:

                    SS - Logan Davidson
                    SP - Daulton Jefferies
                    SP - Graant Holmes
                    OF - Lazaro Armenteros

Re: MLB The Show Trade Discussion Thread

I'd be very interested in getting some opinions on Kingery's value. BaseballTradeValue has him at a whopping -19.1 for obvious reasons. But he feels very much like the kind of player we would once make arguments about. Guys like Kyle Schwarber two years before his stint in Chicago ended, or Mazara two years before Texas moved him. He's twenty-seven and three years removed from real impact at the MLB level and he has a sizeable contract for a guy who can't stay at the MLB level.

But we all know what kind of raw talent and athleticism he has. Philadelphia obviously still believes he can be the guy they once thought he could be. But I could definitely see him being attached in a trade that acquired Philadelphia the kind of piece needed to make a Series run. And I think there are plenty of teams that would like to see how he could perform in a new environment.

I like the Rangers trade! Might be a bit of an underpay today, but Lora seems like the type of guy that's going to climb up the prospect rankings pretty quickly!

Don't know how I feel about the KC/Oakland one. Whit seems like the type of player that the Royals love, and I'd have a hard time seeing them pair Duffy's negative value with him to lower the overall trade value. I don't *hate* it, I could just see KC asking for Puasson over Davidson.

I agree with you on the Oakland thing. And after talking with an Oakland fan, he expressed apprehension that Oakland would be willing to take on that kind of money, especially so much of it being Duffy's negative equity, just to make a run.

I'm adjusting and doing a deal between the Athletics and Dodgers.

                          OAK Receives:

                          UT - Chris Taylor

                          LAD Receives:

                          OF - Greg Deichmann
                          OF - Cody Thomas

Oakland overpays to get a very affordable Taylor who is a natural fit for the kind of ball Oakland plays.

I've always like Kingery...would be kind of funny to see something like a David Price (Potentially fills rotation need for Philly) for Kingery (I don't know...the Dodgers are so deep all over...but it's pretty much a guarantee that he ends up going all "Chris Taylor/Max Muncy/Etc./Etc./Etc.", where he ends up becoming a friggin' all star).

Yeah, I want to play with him on the Show to see how I like him. I gave Sborz, Eli White and Chris Seise. So I gave up 6.6V for -19.1V in return. Philly likely asks for more in reality but I don't feel as if I'm cheating so I'll sleep fine tonight.

I don't know...Philly freeing up money (They probably don't really have to, but still...) makes a bit of sense so that they can add a big name to their rotation or bullpen at the deadline/offseason.

Have you got Willie CalBOOM in the lineup? I traded for him and he has essentially become mini-Bautista for my Jays. Poorly rated all around, but for some reason I've been absolutely raking with him.
