    August 9-11: ROSWELL (62-54) @ FLAGSTAFF (59-58)
    Stadium: AutoZone Park (Capacity: 9,486)

    August 9: Hops 7, Aliens 4
    August 10: Hops 5, Aliens 4
    August 11: Aliens 5, Hops 4

Flagstaff, AZ (AP) - The Flagstaff Hops took two of three from the Roswell Aliens in a battle of two teams locked into the Mountain League Wild Card chase. All three games were closely contested and these same two teams will meet next week in Roswell.

The Hops opened up a huge series at home against the Roswell Aliens with a come from behind 7-4 victory. Art Mason hit for the cycle, driving in three to help pace the Hops to the big win.

Roswell jumped out to a 3-0 lead in the fourth on an RBI single from Hudson and a two-run single from Schwarzfeld. But the Hops replied immediately with four in the bottom half. Oscar Aleman hit a three run home run to right center to tie the game and then Art Mason tripled home Shoe-Lace O’Tying to give Flagstaff the lead.

The Hops would add a solo home run from Josh Ortega (19) in the fifth and an Art Mason two run home run in the sixth, his 21st, to go up 7-3.

Danny Watson would hit a long solo home run in the eighth off of reliever Wirth. It was his 33rd on the year, tying him for the Mountain League lead with Flagstaff’s Rodney Millar.

Angelo Chacin (3-1) earned the win, gong five innings and allowing three runs on five hits. He struck out five and walked one. The bullpen worked the final four innings ad allowed just the solo home run to Watson. Vic Miller struggled, allowing a hit and walk, but managed to tightrope out of it to secure his 29th save.

Dwayne Parks (7-5) took the loss for Roswell. He only went 4 1/3 and allowed five runs on ten hits.

On Wednesday evening the Hops rallied late, blew a lead, and then walked it off as they defeated the Aliens 5-4. Art Mason’s single back up the middle scored Skyler Lyons with the winning running as Flagstaff celebrated a huge win.

Tied at two, late in the game, the Hops hit back-to-back home runs in the bottom of the eighth as Rodney Millar hit his 33rd and Robbie Westbrook blasted his 19th, to put the Hops up 4-2.

Manager Bud Black trotted starter Shoe-Lace O’Tying back out to start the ninth. He got the first out, but surrendered a double to Blake Pacinelli. Black brought in closer Vic Miller and the first pitch that he threw, Damien Hudson blasted over the wall in dead center to tie the game at four. It was Miller’s fourth blown save and third since the All-Star game.

In the bottom half, Josh Ortega led off with a single and Skyler Lyons pinch ran for him. He advanced to second on a ground out and scored on Art Mason’s two-out RBI single to walk it off.

Vic Miller (2-1) got the win, despite the blown save. Shoe-Lace O’tying went 8 1.3 innings, allowing three runs on six hits. He struck out nine and did not walk a batter.

In the finale, the Aliens held off the Hops 5-4 to avoid the sweep. Joe Gallagher was the hero for the Aliens, hitting a three-run go-ahead home run in the sixth that proved to be the winner.

Robbie Westbrook homered twice for the Hops, both solo shots and Arturo Mardones hit a two-run home run in the losing effort.

The Hops loaded the bases with two-outs in the ninth off of Roswell closer Raymond Lane, but could not push across any runs as Josh Ortega flew out to center to end the ball game.

Roswell ace David Lee (11-8) picked up the win. He pitched six innings, allowing four runs on just four hits. The bullpen held the Hops scoreless over the final three innings with Lane picking up his league leading 37th save.

Ryan Pressley (7-10) pitched well, but that three-run home run in the sixth did him in. He went seven innings, allowing the five runs on nine hits.

The Hops (59-58) will host Prescott (46-70) to close out the home stand for a three game weekend series.

Notes: The Hops have claimed reliever Peter Colon and RF Cade Matthews off waivers from Yuma.

Around the League: Forth Worth rallied from a 9-2 deficit to stun red-hot Santa Fe 10-9 with a home run from Randy Klaus to tie it in the bottom of the ninth and a walk-off sacrifice fly from Kraus in the 10th. Steve Marquez hit a three-run home run to key the St. George Archers to a 4-0 victory over Salt Lake as they move farther ahead of Flagstaff in the ML West.

Armando Bermudez tossed seven shutout innings, but got a no decision in Gilbert’s 1-0 walk-off win over Tucson at Sloan Park. Ryan Rodriguez doubled home Steve Heupel with the game winning run as Gilbert stretched it’s lead in the DL East to 8 1/2 games over Salt River.

A Joel Valdez two-run home run in the ninth sent Santa Fe to a 3-1 victory over Fort Worth in a series with big playoff implications.

No Judge No Problem for Yankees

Game 1 of the 2022 ALDS goes to The Bronx Bombers.
It was Gerrit Cole vs Shane Bieber in what many expected to be a pitchers duel. Instead it was one sided as Bieber gave up hits to the 6, 7, 8 and 9 hitter in the 2nd inning all with 2 outs to make it 3-0. In a decision to save Biebers arm in case of a game 5, Francona pulled him in the 6th after 84 pitches in favor of Nick Sandlin. The Guardians couldn't see Cole as they didn't get their first hit until the 8th. A hit by rookie Steven Kwan. It was the only hit the Yankees staff would give up as they threw a combined 1 hitter and the only other excitement for Cleveland was a near homerun by J Ram that was robbed at the wall. To make matters worse rookie Nolan Jones left with an undisclosed injury in the 7th. Many Yankee fans were worried as Aaron Judge is out at least this series after getting hurt in the penultimate game of the season with a knee sprain. However if New York pitches like this tomorrow it will be a short series.

I just finished the month of April in my Nationals franchise...and boy is it a mess. The Nationals have finished the opening month with an astounding record of 6-22. They have lost eight in a row, and in the last five games have lost two more everyday players in Lane Thomas (who was leading the team in RBIs) and C.J. Abrams. The organization's #9 prospect James Wood (87th ranked prospect overall) was called up to replace Thomas (he hit a base hit in his first major league at bat). The club has decided to call up the #15 overall prospect, 18 year old Brady House, to take over the starting shortstop role. He will join the club and play in their next game, the final game against the Giants to start the month of May.

I knew this rebuilding process would but tough, but wow is it hard to do. I took a break from my Guardians franchise to try something new but, quite honestly, it's brutal. Will I make it through May? I have no idea!

            Gimenez Comes Up Clutch
            Game 2 ALDS (91-71) Guardians @ Yankees (96-66) Yankees lead 1-0
Triston McKenzie vs Nestor Cortes Jr.
It was a game of ups and downs. The Guardians went from getting their first hit in the 8th of game one to back to back to back in the 2nd inning of game 2. Jose Ramirez, Andres Gimenez and Bryan Lavastida alternated hitting it to different parts of the outfield making it 3-0. The Yankees got one back in the 5th with a sacrifice fly to score Benintendi. After 7 innings The Guardians relieved McKenzie for Karinchak who quickly gave up 2 doubles and a walk to tie the game. Guardian fans had to be nervous and dreams of crashing the party quickly became nightmares. The 9th inning arrived and Andres Gimenez came up to bat and in a 3-2 count, he sent the ball to the cheap seats off of Luis Severino who manager Aaron Boone probably kept in the game too long, going into his 4th inning of relief. The Guardians sent in the closer and Clase did what he does. 100 mph rising fast balls to get the 1,2,3 and the series heads to Progressive Field split 1-1. The Yankees will be kicking themselves to claw back and not win, especially with 9 runners left on base.

              Guardians Battered at Home

Game 3 ALDS (96-66) New York Yankees @ Cleveland Guardians (91-71) Series tied 1-1
              Luis Severino vs Cal Quantrill
Game 3 goes to The Yankees emphatically as Quantrill allowed 9 batters to the plate in the 2nd inning including a Joey Gallo homerun (1) and 6 runs. The Guardians weren't as lucky as the drums in the outfield showed up but the bats did not. The Yankees continued to pour it on when in the 4th inning Tim Locastro stole 2nd up 6-0. Francona and The Guardians were not thrilled and felt it was unnecessary as Boone and Francona were seen hollering back and forth from their respective dug outs over the stolen base. Francona called it bush league and disrespectful. Boone said after the game "it shows respect, no lead is safe in the playoffs and you have to keep on a teams neck when it comes to playoff baseball. The Guardians are here because they're dangerous. We can't let up." That was as much drama as this game gave because the rest of it was lackluster from Cleveland. Jos Naylor hit his 1st homerun of the postseason but it was merely a consolation as The Yankees won 6-1 and honestly could have scored more with a 12 hit performance.
              Around The Diamond:
-Toronto up 2-1 on Seattle all 3 games have been won by 1 run
-Atlanta beat Milwaukee 3-1 outscoring Milwaukee 20-7 in 4 games
-Mets sweep The Dodgers all close games 7-5, 7-5, 6-4
That means we will get an NL East showdown in the NLCS with the Mets and Braves. Tomorrow could be the end of the other 2 series with both The Yankees and Blue Jays able to clinch.

Re: MLB The Show 22 Franchise Discussion Thread

So, I decided to redo my offseason for a couple reasons. A) I changed my mind about how I wanted to handle switching some starting pitchers to relief pitcher, and B) I think part of the reason I was seeing some weird stuff regarding teams signing too many 1B or Cs was due to secondary positions (so I went through an removed some secondary positions where it made sense; ain't nobody playing Brandon Belt in the OF).

But then I had something really weird happen. I did the whole 30 team control thing with 2 profiles. The CPU profile for 29 teams is set to Auto for everything but Lineups and MLB Injuries. The profile for my team is set to Manual for everything. But the game just traded away my catcher without me doing anything about it. At first I thought it was a trade offer thing, but nope, the CPU decided to trade Travis d'Arnaud for Jurickson Profar and a low level prospect.

I'm going to reload, but just thought that was super weird. Hopefully it doesn't do that again. Admittedly, I was considering trading d'Arnaud, but not for that weak of a haul.

The Nationals were able to put an end to their nine game losing streak by taking two of three from the Rockies in Denver. Recent call-ups James Wood and Brady House both hit their first career home runs. The sweep was not to be, however, as the Rockies demolished the Nationals 17-2 in the series finale. The Nationals will now go to Anaheim to face the Angels for three games.

Catcher Keibert Ruiz suffered a shoulder injury in the finale and will be out 1-2 weeks. Another rookie, Wilmer Perez, has been called up and will make his debut in the first game against the Angels.

The Nationals, at 8-23, are going to be competing with the Reds and Pirates for the worst record in baseball this year.

I did right after. Everything was still set to what it should be. It was really strange. Never happened again.

Ended up eventually finishing the offseason. One interesting thing I noticed, between the two completed ones, and a few botched ones (also had to restart one when I noticed some teams non-tendering young, A potential prospects like Harry Ford), one signing happened every single time. Edwin Rios always signs with the Twins. Every time.

The Mariners also added both Aaron Judge and Trea Turner. That's suddenly an extremely scary lineup.

Re: MLB The Show 22 Franchise Discussion Thread

Just an update on my franchise as I haven't been keeping up due to life.

We are currently 58-48 as we are finishing up the month of July. We just were swept by the Rays in a 3 game series and lead the Brewers by 3 games in the Central. We are heading to Washington for a 3 game series with the Nationals to finish the month.

We haven't made any moves since acquiring Matt Strahm from the D'Backs. We added Kyle Schwarber and John Means prior to that. We are financially strapped so any moves need to be made with careful attention.

Injuries have struck over the past week as Cristian Vasquez (hand) and Dakota Hudson (shoulder) are likely done for the regular season due to their injuries. We are having to be creative in our rotation and lineup.

The trade market has been slow this year, slower than the previous two. Last big trade was Bryan Reynolds to the Padres.

Gearing up for a competitive, stressful second half of the season.
I can't shave with my eyes closed, meaning each day I have to look at myself in the mirror and respect who I see.

I miss the old days of Operation Sports :(

Well just finished season 1 playing every game with the Braves. Won the division on the last game of the season. Lost game 5 of the NLDS to the Brewers. Had a perfect game with Fried for 9.2 innings and gave up a freaking solo home run in the top of the 9th on the last damn out which wouldn't have been so awful except I didnt score a single run in the game. I had 2 homeruns robbed and 2 more balls caught against the wall. Just couldn't do anything against Corbin Burns and the bullpen.

Got rid of Morton, Jansen, Ynoa, Swanson, Ozuna, Duvall and a few others. Signed Judge and moved him to LF lol. Gonna let Jalen Miller or Vaughn Grissom try and earn the SS position during spring training. Also signed Andrelton Simmons to be a Brave again incase the other 2 guys don't get things done at least I'll have a very solid defensive option there.

Going into Spring Training looking like
                          RF - Acuna
                          2B - Albies
                          3B - Riley
                          LF - Judge
                          1B - Olson
                          C - Contereas/D'arnaud
                          SS - Miller/Grissom
                          CF - Harris
                          DH - D'arnaud/Contereas

                          SP - Fried
                          SP - Strider
SP - Soroka (missed last season)
                          SP - Anderson

Only thing I'm really hoping for this season is Division title, 40/40 club with Acuna and at least 60+ homeruns with Judge lol. Anything else is gravy.

Game 4 saw Bieber get the ball to save The Guardians season with Civale pushed back to game 5 if Cleveland could tie the series. It was a game of errors. Guardians center fielder Richie Palacios let a ball get by him allowing Locastro to reach 2nd with a double. Josh Jung quickly scored him to make it 1-0. However the bottom of that same inning Gleyber Torres had a nightmare inning. A throwing error by Torres that was unexplainable and another throwing error when he actually made a tremendous play knocking down a screamer hit by Josh Naylor but a poor throw to 1st got Naylor on base and scored Steven Kwan. The Yankees limited the damage with an infield pop up by Myles Straw with runners on the corners. Kwan came up later in the 5th and hit a double. A wild pitch by Taillon moved Kwan to 3rd and Palacios got an RBI ground out. The Yankees had their own opportunities but left the bases loaded in the 7th. Eli Morgan closed out the 8th with 8 pitches and Clase got the 3 up, 3 down in a 2-1 win for The Guardians. The two teams will pack their bags and head to the Bronx for the series deciding game 5

Cardinals acquire Yairo Munoz from Cubs, option Nolan Gorman to Memphis

The Cardinals have acquired utility man Yairo Munoz from division rival Cubs in exchange for Justin Williams and Yolbert Sanchez.

The Cardinals were looking for veteran depth at the infield position that swings a good bat, but more importantly had good glovework and could play multiple positions effectively. They got that with Munoz. The 29 year old was in Iowa with the Cubs, but had played 7 games in the big leagues this year with a .302 average.

The Cardinals parted with OF Justin Williams (who they acquired off waivers from the Cubs earlier this year) and SS/2B Yolbert Sanchez in order to get Munoz. Both players were at Memphis at time of trade and weren't likely to see any big league promotions between now and the end of the year.

In a corresponding move, the Cardinals have optioned 3B/2B and top prospect Nolan Gorman back to Memphis. Gorman has played significant time in St.Louis and wasn't poor, but the thought is that he needs to be playing everyday to improve and to be ready to step into the role as the everyday 3rd baseman when that time comes.

There is one day left of the trade deadline, but its unlikely the Cardinals make additional moves. The front office is headstrong in the idea of not selling off the future to win now.
I can't shave with my eyes closed, meaning each day I have to look at myself in the mirror and respect who I see.

I miss the old days of Operation Sports :(

The Nationals have moved to 10-25 after winning two of three against the Angels. They have now won four of their last six and nearly swept the Angels, but fell just short in extra innings in the second game. Luke Voit, who has been struggling mightily at the plate this season, ended up with 3 home runs and 6 RBIs in the series, including a first inning 2 run homer against Ohtani in the rubber match. Brady House added his second home run in the first game, and in just six games he already has two three doubles, a triple, two home runs, and four RBIs.

C.J. Abrams is ready to return, but the club is sticking with House at shortstop, so Abrams will see time in the outfield. To make room for Abrams, Alex Call was sent down to AAA.

The Nationals will now return home to DC and start a three game series against the Mets, who are off to a slow start at 20-15. The first game will see another matchup of Strasburg vs deGrom, the third of the season. Strasburg took the first duel, while deGrom was able to win the second.
