I was really hoping for an online franchise option this year. I suppose now I can focus on creating Juanita Soto instead.Last edited by CrizzleDizzle13; 03-06-2024, 01:13 PM.Comment

Re: Players Can Create and Play as a Female Ballplayer in MLB The Show 24 Road to the
Sports video games have been male-dominated spaces for an extremely long time, and for obvious reasons, all the big four American sports leagues roster exclusively male athletes. Adding support for a gender expression beyond only cisgendered masculine males is a stupidly obvious opportunity not only for the company making the game to increase its market share, but also it is a tangible and real cultural reach out to those who have never considered playing sports video games because they haven't felt represented by the limited ability those games have historically offered to express their personal identity.
I don't really play The Show at all — real or fake, I can't hit a baseball to save my life — so this news doesn't really impact me whatsoever. What I do know is that there is plenty of room under this sports gaming tent to welcome new perspectives and attitudes towards the games I've enjoyed for a long time, and I'm in support of anything which increases the chances of having more and more varied friends with whom to enjoy sports video games.
I fully expect any major licensed sports game which doesn't already feature playable female athletes (as far as I know, only EA Sports FC, NBA 2K, and WWE 2K offered this prior to MLB The Show's announcement) to add this capability into their games over the coming years. Yes, even the football games. I'm sure that will be a fun discussion when it happens lol.
EDIT: appears that EA Sports NHL also supports women skaters, and there are several licensed golf video games which offer opportunity to participate to men and women.Last edited by Hooe; 03-06-2024, 07:53 PM.Comment

Re: Players Can Create and Play as a Female Ballplayer in MLB The Show 24 Road to the
It's funny to see some of the reaction because of all of the major American sports (Football, Basketball, Hockey, Baseball), Baseball is the one sport where women come the closest to being able to match the men on the field.
The problem with this mode is that it "appears" to be no option for you to have a women's league or to play with multiple women on the same team or to have women playing against one another.
If it's just a mode where you get to pretend being the first woman to make the Show, then that's cool, but it's short-sided of what the full potential of putting women in the game could be.
Either go big or go home, otherwise it comes off as a marketing gimmick as others have accused it of being (right or wrong).
At least let us create a team of women, let us stack their attributes and put them up against men's teams from multiple eras. That might not be for everyone, but at least it could be categorized as a solid "video game type of fun" fantasy mode.
This just feels like lazy, half-hearted implementation.Unofficial OS Ambassador of "CPU vs. CPU"

Is that true? I guess it's all about the comparison with other sports, but I've never thought that women could hang in baseball more than others. It's definitely a severe disadvantage when it comes to pitching.Comment

Check out Kelsie Whitmores 4 year pitching stats. Absolutely awful and this is in an independent league.Comment

Also, I doubt year to year saves ever returns and also doubt that Sounds of The Show will ever be added to the newer console models.Comment

I have zero knowledge that this is the case just sharing what I heard. In games like WWE2k they use to allow you back in the day to upload music. Specifically for entrances. Then it went away At the time it was rumored that it opened up the company to lawsuits. Now I have no idea if that is true. Just what I heard, Maybe Sony doesnt make it possible anymore due to legal issues? I mean I play PC games you can upload music no problem. But maybe?Mets Baseball, All Day Every Day

It seems very likely that Sony/SDS did not want to deal with supporting a feature that would require a 3rd party USB stick or drive. But they left it in the older console versions as a legacy feature.
I'll be honest, I would not be surprised to see that option removed even from the older console versions this year.Last edited by Dolenz; 03-06-2024, 04:57 PM.Comment

Did I really just read "woke mind virus" in the year 2024 here on OS and it wasn't in jest? Wild. At least come up with a phrase that isn't lampooned and not so hilarious all on its own if you want to make that point (please don't make that point either way).
Anyway, apologies that the modding was a bit overly lenient/slow yesterday, the thread has been cleaned up. As per usual, shred the content, don't be weirdos (most of you weren't weirdos, I only had to delete like 10-12 posts, and that was like 4-5 people making them up -- pretty sure they'll all end up perma-banned as well).
As for the feature, I don't think this will be that awesome if only because I don't think RTTS itself and how it delivers its stories has been very compelling with the structure they have in place the last couple years. Playing the games has remained fun, but all the off-the-field stuff just has not been that interesting to me.
Where women have thrived the most in sports games to me since they started being included more in the last 5 years is this year with FUT in FIFA -- Mia Hamm rules, and various other women are just really fun to play with -- and then the WNBA feature in NBA 2K is arguably where you can play the most enjoyable hoops because it plays and feels more sim in many respects compared to the NBA version. FIFA and NBA 2K overall def have done it the best because there's been the most buy-in and thus it has made the gameplay feel different and they have a buttload of licensing to create large groups to use. The Show obviously does not have that real-life component unless they open it up to softball or the like (which could be dope don't get me wrong) but would require more than just a re-skinning.
If this is more just a re-skinning with the same narrative devices in place, while it's good to see folks who look like you in the game and shouldn't be overlooked, the actual product I have my doubts about from a purely holistic level.
I also do think it's fair to make the separation between church and state here that while there are some freaks in the thread saying bozo ish, the general consternation is more that adding something on to a mode that wasn't that good the last couple years at its core means the same issues will exist. This does not mean "where are my franchise mode updates!?" is what I'm saying everyone should do -- I would keep the focus on the specific mode here being RTTS -- but in a broad way I do understand the concerns.Last edited by ChaseB; 03-06-2024, 05:36 PM.I won't ask for Christmas or birthday gifts if you subscribe to the Operation Sports Newsletter (Not Just Another Roster Update). Re: Players Can Create and Play as a Female Ballplayer in MLB The Show 24 Road to the
I was playing 23 the other day and I thought to myself, “you know what would be better than decent wall detection, PS5 actually looking like PS5, updated pants like tweeners (like we see on PLENTY of players), and a plethora of franchise improvements? WOMEN.” In fact, let’s not stop there. Let’s let them face Jordan Hicks and his 103mph fastball in real life! I can sleep soooo much better now and I am totally convinced to buy this game, because I can create my daughter in RTTS…Comment

Other than OS and the very occasional FB browse or post I am not on social media at all. Deleted Twitter/X as that maybe one of the most vial places I have ever seen or read.
I never ever go to Reddit either.
