Re: Players Can Create and Play as a Female Ballplayer in MLB The Show 24 Road to the
It's a bizarre decision to include this in the game IMHO, but not for any sexist reason. How does it makes sense if the game is supposed to be authentically representing MLB and MiLB? If this was a cartoon baseball game then that is a different story.
I love women in sports games. I have played as USWNT, the French, and the English in the World Cup in FIFA several times. That is great fun and that experience obviously makes sense as an inclusion there. But why add women into RTTS when that is pure fantasy? That's the part I don't get. Is this something people are really requesting in a licensed MLB game? Maybe they are, to be fair.
Anyway, why not create a women's college softball game using this game engine?? There is a passionate fanbase in that sport and their tourneys are on ESPN all summer. Or maybe include the 1940s women's league as an add-on section in The Show?? I think both of those options would be great. I would absolutely play the league of their own add-on. I just don't get adding female players in RTTS when the game is supposed to be about authenticity and representing MLB and MiLB.
At the end of the day it's just adding more choices for users and that's fine. I wouldn't not buy the game over this, but to each their own. But again, just the logic is what is weird to me. Are women going to be added in NCAA and Madden as well? I mean, that would be okay as well, but does it actually make sense?Comment

You can do this with literally any game tho. If they put something you don't want in your favorite video game I can point out all the other things about that game that aren't lifelike and realistic and mock you for caring about it.Comment

Re: Players Can Create and Play as a Female Ballplayer in MLB The Show 24 Road to the
Did I really just read "woke mind virus" in the year 2024 here on OS and it wasn't in jest? Wild. At least come up with a phrase that isn't lampooned and not so hilarious all on its own if you want to make that point (please don't make that point either way).
Anyway, apologies that the modding was a bit overly lenient/slow yesterday, the thread has been cleaned up. As per usual, shred the content, don't be weirdos (most of you weren't weirdos, I only had to delete like 10-12 posts, and that was like 4-5 people making them up -- pretty sure they'll all end up perma-banned as well).
As for the feature, I don't think this will be that awesome if only because I don't think RTTS itself and how it delivers its stories has been very compelling with the structure they have in place the last couple years. Playing the games has remained fun, but all the off-the-field stuff just has not been that interesting to me.
Where women have thrived the most in sports games to me since they started being included more in the last 5 years is this year with FUT in FIFA -- Mia Hamm rules, and various other women are just really fun to play with -- and then the WNBA feature in NBA 2K is arguably where you can play the most enjoyable hoops because it plays and feels more sim in many respects compared to the NBA version. FIFA and NBA 2K overall def have done it the best because there's been the most buy-in and thus it has made the gameplay feel different and they have a buttload of licensing to create large groups to use. The Show obviously does not have that real-life component unless they open it up to softball or the like (which could be dope don't get me wrong) but would require more than just a re-skinning.
If this is more just a re-skinning with the same narrative devices in place, while it's good to see folks who look like you in the game and shouldn't be overlooked, the actual product I have my doubts about from a purely holistic level.
I also do think it's fair to make the separation between church and state here that while there are some freaks in the thread saying bozo ish, the general consternation is more that adding something on to a mode that wasn't that good the last couple years at its core means the same issues will exist. This does not mean "where are my franchise mode updates!?" is what I'm saying everyone should do -- I would keep the focus on the specific mode here being RTTS -- but in a broad way I do understand the concerns.
I don't think they do any favors when they make it seem like a virtual signaling but hopefully sweet baby Inc wasn't hired for consulting for the show.
Now back to what we saw I'm not impressed but I think gameplay is perfect anyways and while I'll keep using 21 as my go for classic rosters .
In my opinion people are foolish to think this game is ever going to go back to what it was with better graphics and upgrades I think the red flag to that was no roster carryovers but that might have been because of the current gen crossover.
When I need my sports fix it will be 70s 80s and 90s rosters of Madden 20, NHL 22, MLB 21 the one that got it mostly right NBA 2K 23 always enjoy reading your opinions Chase.Last edited by ChaseB; 03-07-2024, 02:30 AM.Finally Roster share in NHL 22 ! Re: Players Can Create and Play as a Female Ballplayer in MLB The Show 24 Road to the
This is so cool. Heard for years from friends whose daughters have wished they could be more accurately represented in The Show so they can be more immersed in the experience and this absolutely does that.
The people wringing their hands about this are so funny lol. Oh no the video game added a feature you're not interested in, guess you'll just have to play all the same modes you always have that are still in the game. A generation of gamers got so brain poisoned by the idea of *realism* they forgot this is ultimately a fictional simulation with endless possibilities. Glad SDS remembered.
Also to anyone who wants to respond with "what about feature X, or mode Y," idk I think the games are routinely very good and Show players don't know how good they've got it, so that's not going to really move me.Last edited by ZachenFoot; 03-07-2024, 06:59 AM.Comment

What about this is virtue signaling? Looks to me like an easy way to involve a demographic in the experience that's been excluded for decades. Is it just because it involves women?Comment

Other than OS and the very occasional FB browse or post I am not on social media at all. Deleted Twitter/X as that maybe one of the most vial places I have ever seen or read.
I never ever go to Reddit either.
Ignorance can be bliss folks.

With that said, on the same note I know a lot of really good ball players that have tried hitting against female college level softball pitchers and said it’s near impossible. Not only is the mound closer to the plate but the release point is super deceiving. So to each their ownComment

Re: Players Can Create and Play as a Female Ballplayer in MLB The Show 24 Road to the
Honestly, I'm only surprised that this didn't happen sooner.
Sports video games have been male-dominated spaces for an extremely long time, and for obvious reasons, all the big four American sports leagues roster exclusively male athletes. Adding support for a gender expression beyond only cisgendered masculine males is a stupidly obvious opportunity not only for the company making the game to increase its market share, but also it is a tangible and real cultural reach out to those who have never considered playing sports video games because they haven't felt represented by the limited ability those games have historically offered to express their personal identity.
I don't really play The Show at all — real or fake, I can't hit a baseball to save my life — so this news doesn't really impact me whatsoever. What I do know is that there is plenty of room under this sports gaming tent to welcome new perspectives and attitudes towards the games I've enjoyed for a long time, and I'm in support of anything which increases the chances of having more and more varied friends with whom to enjoy sports video games.
I fully expect any major licensed sports game which doesn't already feature playable female athletes (as far as I know, only EA Sports FC, NBA 2K, and WWE 2K offered this prior to MLB The Show's announcement) to add this capability into their games over the coming years. Yes, even the football games. I'm sure that will be a fun discussion when it happens lol.
EDIT: appears that EA Sports NHL also supports women skaters, and there are several licensed golf video games which offer opportunity to participate to men and women.
Now with that said. You want to add a women’s story line. Cool, do it. That’s your right as a company, dev team, and brand. But don’t do it at the expense of life time customers like myself who have played your games for years and want resources put into long neglected game modes, to appease a smaller percentage of society you feel you are not representing. It’s a chicken before the egg situation. Take care of us then feel free to take care of them. And if you want to say that time and resources being out into this does not take away from other game modes in a 9 month dev cycle, you are out of your mind.
These are my feelings at least. Respectfully.Last edited by Therebelyell626; 03-07-2024, 01:04 PM.Comment
