    2025 Houston Astros 04/07-04/09

Overall Record:6-6 (2nd AL West/1.5 behind Seattle Mariner)

    Game Results:

    Game 1
    Mariners-8
    Astros-3

    Game 2
    Astros-8
    Mariners-5

    Game 3
    Mariners-4
    Astros-0

Astros drop series to Mariners, 2-1

The Astros chances at an AL West title are likely the smallest they have been in the better part of the last decade. Their recent trip to Seattle gave them a chance to claim that top spot atleast early on in the season.

Unfortunately, they could not get it done and in fact, Seattle really dominated the Stros in their first meeting of 2025. The first game saw a matchup between the Cristian Javier (HOU) and George Kirby (SEA). Both gave up early runs as Seattle held a 3-2 lead after three innings. That blossomed into a 7-2 lead by the end of the 6th and eventually ended in an 8-3 win for the Mariners. Kirby was the better of the two starters as he finished six innings, gave up just five hits and three runs while Javier pitched just 5, gave up eight hits and five runs. Lance McCullers JR wasnt any better for the Stros as he gave up three runs of his own in just two innings.

Austin Shenton was a surprise for the Mariners in the first game as he hit his first homerun of the season and he would continue to be a thorn in the side of Houston (5-11/2 HR 3 RBI) for the remainder of the series. It just seemed like every ball he hit was over 100 MPH.

The Astros were good in game two as Framber Valdez got his first win of the series and the bats actually looked really good. So go in fact that they chased Logan Gilbert out of the game in the 2nd inning. At the time, the score was 5-0 in favor of Houston. Seattle however would fight back and eventually got the score to 8-5 before Josh Hader came in to close it out and he did so as he struck out the Mariners 7th,8th and 9th place batters in order to end the game.

Unfortunately, the Astros offense again sputtered in game three as they amassed just two hits against Bryan Woo and company with the Mariners taking the game, 4-0 and the series, 2-1.

Houston still sits in second and after a day off will return home to face the Angels (5-6/3rd AL West).

Giants Dominate Mariners as Yastrzemski Sends One Into McCovey Cove

San Francisco, CA – The San Francisco Giants took down the Seattle Mariners in commanding fashion with a 7-1 victory to open the series, fueled by an offensive explosion and a strong outing from starting pitcher Tristan Beck.

      Yastrzemski’s Splash Hit Sparks Offense
Mike Yastrzemski was the star of the night, delivering the teams 106th splash hit in Oracle Park history with a towering home run into McCovey Cove. His blast drove in three runs, setting the tone for the Giants’ offensive dominance. Yastrzemski finished the game 1-for-2 with three RBIs and two runs scored, earning him the well-deserved title of Player of the Game.

      Seattle’s Offensive Woes Continue
The Mariners struggled once again to capitalize with runners in scoring position, leaving five runners stranded in scoring position. Despite solid individual performances from Julio Rodríguez (2-for-4) and Luke Raley (2-for-4, 2B), Seattle couldn’t break through against the Giants' pitching staff.

      Castillo’s Rough Outing
Luis Castillo had a tough night on the mound, surrendering seven hits and two earned runs in just 3.1 innings of work. His command was off, and San Francisco took full advantage early in the game.

      Beck Shuts the Door

On the flip side, Tristan Beck was dominant in his four innings, allowing just three hits while striking out two and keeping the Mariners off the scoreboard. His efficient outing set the stage for a dominant bullpen performance that secured the shutout victory.

Seattle will look to bounce back in their next matchup, while San Francisco hopes to ride this momentum into another strong performance.

Series: Started rough but Seattle won the next 2, to take the series 2/3. Next they welcome Houston who pipped them to the finish line last season, eliminating any hope for the playoffs.

It has probably been mentioned already but players are regressing even faster this year lol. They even mentioned that they had looked into it and written a new algorithm if I recall correctly. I have players losing stats after one or two games now. I have not even made it to April yet and the Free Agents are losing overalls.

Another week has come and gone for the 2025 Jays, and it started off with a home victory over Atlanta to extend the win streak to eight games. The streak died there, however, as they dropped games two and three. The Seattle Mariners then came in, but the Jays were ready for them as they took the first two games of the series to set up a potential sweep. However, the Mariners edged out Toronto 2-1 in game three to avoid the sweep. Of note, Kevin Gausman's start in the Seattle series was cut short in the third inning due to an elbow injury. Luckily, it's a relatively minor injury that will not require him to miss a turn. Then, prior to the third game against Seattle, Daulton Varsho suffered an injury while heading to the Rogers Center, which caused him to be held out of the lineup for the game. His injury will keep him out of action for just a few days, so he will likely miss Toronto's next series because of that. The competition for Toronto's next two series will be tough as they take on the AL West leading Astros in Houston next, followed by a trip to New York to take on the AL East leading Yankees. Finally, Toronto made their first roster move of the season, releasing relief pitcher Josh Walker, who had been struggling in Triple A to start the year. Zack Jackson was signed to a one year contract to replace Walker on the Bisons.

            Mariners Franchise

Astros Power Past Mariners with Four-Home Run Explosion

SEATTLE – The Houston Astros put on a power-hitting clinic as they dominated the Seattle Mariners with a 7-4 victory, fueled by four home runs. José Altuve led the charge, smashing a leadoff homer on the first pitch of the game, setting the tone for a relentless offensive performance. Altuve finished the night 4-for-5, adding a double, two RBIs, and earning "Player of the Game" honors. The Astros' bats came alive early, launching two home runs within the first four at-bats. Jeremy Peña, Christian Walker, and Jon Singleton each added crucial hits and RBIs to keep Houston in control. Framber Valdez secured the win, grinding through six innings despite allowing 10 hits. He struck out 10 Mariners while limiting the damage to four earned runs. Bryan Abreu came in to close it out, earning his second save of the season.
Mariners starter, Bryan Woo took the loss, surrendering six earned runs on seven hits over 6.1 innings despite striking out seven. His struggles, combined with Houston’s power surge, proved too much for the Mariners to overcome. Seattle tried to fight back behind Donovan Solano, who had three RBIs on a 2-for-4 night, and Dylan Moore, who contributed two hits and two runs. However, their efforts weren’t enough to overcome Houston’s offensive firepower.
The victory showcased the Astros’ ability to capitalize on key moments, with their four home runs proving to be the difference-maker. With their bats heating up, Houston looks to carry this momentum into the next series. Meanwhile Seattle will lick their wounds and try to find the offense. They have yet to lose a series but win or lose they haven't looked strong offensively in the early season. Then to add on the rough outing by the pitching staff tonight, they'll hope it was just a one off.

              2025 Cleveland Guardians
Christmas comes early, and brings the gift of offense

Game 1: L 4-3, Win: Yuki Matsui, Loss: Emmanuel Clase
Game 2: W 4-0, Win: John Means, Loss: Michael King
Game 3: W 10-7, Win: Trevor Stephan, Loss: Adrian Morejon

The Guardians travelled to San Diego for a three game set against the Padres. Game one saw a case of deja vu, as Emmanuel Clase blew a save opportunity in extras again.

Game two saw a rough start for John Means, as he threw 32 pitches in the first inning, walking the first two batters he faced. He would get out unscathed and settle in to go 5 solid innings, giving up just one hit and walking three while striking out five. The Guards were able to manufacture two runs from Steven Kwan and Jose Ramirez, and then get two insurance runs on a pitch hit home run from Jhonkensy “Big Christmas” Noel. Jakob Junis was absolutely dominant out of the ‘pen, going three innings, giving up one hit, no walks and striking out seven.

The rubber match was a wild one, with San Diego taking the lead thanks to a home run from Fernando Tatis Jr, but Cleveland would end up tying the game via poor outfield in the middle innings. They would then have a 8 run seventh inning that began with a pinch hit three run home run from Jhonkensy Noel. Tanner Bibee did not get a decision, but did go six innings, giving up three runs on six hits while walking zero and striking out eight. The Padres would get to Paul Sewald in the ninth, driving in four and causing some anxiety in the Guardians bullpen, but Sewald would work out of trouble and give the Guardians the series win.

Cleveland will have an off day before traveling to LA for the Angels’ home opener.

A little update from my Cardinals Franchise. 10 games into the year the Cardinals are ice cold sitting at 3-7. The worse news, we just lost Arenado for the season. He was out only bright spot hitting .350 with 5 homers and 11 rbi. Now without him the lineup will be even worse than ever. Also he was going to traded (along with Gray and Helsley) if we were out of the race by June so there’s that. Oh well, I guess once he heals this offseason, I’ll see if a team will take a chance on him without knowing what his production will be post injury.

                  The 2025 Seattle Mariners

That was another tough series, but at least with a better outcome.

                  Series Recap: Reds
                  Game 1: L 4-5
                  Game 2: W 10-6
                  Game 3: W 6-4
The Pink Gorilla Games high performer of the series: Luke Raley: 4 hits, 2 home runs, 6 RBI

The first game was more of a defensive showdown. Arozarena batted Julio in in the first. Polanco followed it up with a 2 run home run, but the Reds came back and manifactured two runs of their own with some small ball action in the bottom half of the lineup.
We brought a 4-3 lead in the 8th, but Matt Brash gave up his 2nd and 3rd run of the game and the Reds closed it out in the 9th.

The second game just started and we were already down 2. Are we going to take the 5th L in a row? Thanks to a 5 run 3rd inning and a 4 run 6th inning that was not the case. The Reds came back for a bit, until we scored an insurance run in the 9th and took it home.
6 different players hit a double in this game. Cal Raleigh scored the 100th home run of his already great career.

The 3rd game had my favorite half inning of the season: 5th inning, 2 outs. Raleigh comes to the plate and takes 14(!) pitches just to double. Arozarena is next, down 0-2 after 2 pitches he's fighting his way back and to the walk and Luke Raley steps up and hits the home run. You're not losing a game after that kind of offense. But Luke Raley hit a 2nd home run later just to make sure.
In the end it all came down to Munoz closing them out with 2 runners in scoring position.

Good series! There are still some issues, but that was a step in the right direction. I worry about Randy Arozarena a bit, even though he performed pretty well this series. But in general his bat isn't really there yet(.191 AVG, .233 OBP) and he really struggles sometimes in the outfield, just looks a step slow. That could be a problem in close games we need to monitor.

We still didn't make a significant roster move, but there are some names we have our eyes on. Juan Yepez doesn't really play for the Nationals right now and probably would be our 4th best hitter from the start. Pavin Smith in Arizona is on the trade block. Mike Tauchman started the season hot at the White Sox, he is 34 and cheap which makes him a logical target for us. And Ramon Urias is another guy at the Orioles that we could use.

But first we're going North, to the best team in the MLB. In vibes and sympathy at least. The 10-9 Mariners are trying to keep the division leading Rangers close.

                      Hi all,

I'm a first-time 30-team control franchise player here. I have no CPU trades on. Well, because we all know SDS still has no idea how to write the right code for proper trade logic. I digress from that, though. With no CPU trades on, can you all tell me how you guys make trades throughout the season and off-seasons? Please share with me some ideas on how I can make proper, realistic, and quality trades in my franchise.

Re: MLB The Show 25 Franchise Discussion

Not a bad road trip for the Jays, but not too good either. The week started off in Houston where the Jays took on the MLB leading Astros. Toronto was only able to come away with one victory in that set, which was in the third game. The first game saw the Astros pick up a walk off victory in extra innings, and then in the second game, Toronto was up 4-0 through an inning and a half. But then, a bad defensive play led to Chris Bassitt unraveling. When all was said and done, the Astros had put six on the board in the bottom of the second and would go on to win 10-5. Bassitt is now 1-4 on the season despite a solid EAR. The man just can't catch a break, it seems. At least Toronto avoided the sweep in the third game to give Houston only their third loss of the season. The series against the Yankees went better, taking two out of three in New York. Toronto won the first game 4-1 off the back of some solid offense and terrific pitching by Kevin Gausman. In the second game, Toronto was trailing 2-1 in the bottom of the fifth when Aaron Judge stepped to the plate with two away. Berrios attempted to hit Judge, but the powerful slugger was able to move just enough that the pitch went behind him. Well, I guess that pissed him off because Judge belted a grand slam on the next pitch to give New York a 6-1 lead, resulting in Berrios being pulled. Toronto would make a comeback, however, to tie things at six and send it to extras, only to fall in the bottom of the 10th and lose 7-6. The third game was a 5-3 win for Toronto, and the Jays now head back home with a half game lead in the division. Elsewhere, both the Dodgers and Giants got on hot streaks by winning eleven and nine in a row respectively before both of those died. However, those hot streaks resulted in the Giants moving into second in the NL West, while the Dodgers remain in first in that division at 20-7. The Astros, by the way, currently sit at 24-4 and are currently on pace for 139 wins, which would shatter the single season MLB record. If they can continue playing the way they have, then this possibility becomes real.

I always create trades every July into the trade deadline based on the "buyers/sellers" looking at division and wildcard standings.

Once you decide that, then what I do is look at team batting average and team era to decide if the buyer needs pitching, hitting, or sometimes both.

Create the pool of players you are wanting to trade away somewhere. Then when it's time for him to be traded search for trades wanting prospects. Scroll through and jot down the "buyers" who made offers. Say three buyers who need such player offers...pick random number to decide who gets him.

Then what I do is if they need hitting and get a hitter I cross them off to get a hitter. Try to keep it fair. Sometimes teams get multiple guys if they have the assets and need. Of course the random draw is involved.

And yes, you include your user controlled team in the buyer/seller market as well. Up to you if you cheat the system.

Last year I had Pete Alonso traded to Twins and they went on to win the World Series. Fun to see how it all shakes out and it makes sense inside your franchise world.

For my franchise players who do 30 team control is anyone having issues where your main profile u use for ur specific team has trade block and few other things turn to auto? I have a profile for CPU teams that has everything set to Auto and then my profile everything set to Manuel but randomly after playing some games it'll set some of main profile to Auto stuff. It's annoying because they start calling up/down players etc.

Hopefully it gets fixed soon in a patch
