      2025 Houston Astros 04/03-04/06

      Overall Record:5-4 (2nd Al West/0.5 behind Seattle)

      Game Results:

      Game 1
      Twins-6
      Astros-4

      Game 2
      Twins-4
      Astros-3

      Game 3
      Astros-3
      Twins-2

Stros stay above .500 with game three sweep saver

The Houston Astros lost two of three to the likely AL Central champions, the Minnesota Twins.

After the Astros swept the Giants, they looked to avoid their own (sweep) after the Twins won the first two games, 6-4 and 4-3.

Houston got off to a hot start in the final game of the series as both Jose Altuve (2) and Yordan Alvarez (3) homered in the openining frame to give the Stros the 2-0 lead.

That lead wouldn hold but the Astros were able to get a third later in the game that would stand as the Astros took game three to avoid the sweep.

the Astros now travel to Washington to take on their first divisional matchup as they will face the Mariners (6-4). For a position at the top of the AL west.

This has to be the most fun roster to use this year. Looks like the first game also straight delivered on that promise.

Funny thing is I’m a Cubs fan, but I’ve used them so much that I spun the wheel and it landed on the D’Backs who open the season against non other than the Cubs!

Well, well, well...it seems like whatever I post here turns out to be false. Maybe I should be a politician. Anyway, a funny thing happened...I bought MLBTS25..I couldn't help myself, I wanted the new features, I wanted the new scheduling, I wanted Paul Skenes, I wanted to get rid of Julio Urias and Wander Franco, I wanted the freaking Guardians City Connect unis for some reason. So we start again. Will I return to the 22 Nats Franchise? I don't know, maybe? It really was so fun, but I'm a sucker for being able to play all 29 teams in a season.

I've decided to break from tradition by starting this franchise with my hometown team, the Cleveland Guardians. They fit the bill for what I love doing in a franchise: small market, young talent, great ballpark. I'm a little upset with them in real life after they traded away Josh Naylor and Andres Gimenez, and that anger should make it easier for me to make my own roster moves in the game. I've already decided to drift from reality by keeping Shane Bieber in the starting rotation for Opening Day. In real life, he'll probably be out until the summer, but in my franchise he will be the number two start, after Tanner Bibee. I'm also going to have David Fry available, despite also being injured until summertime in real life. Unfortunately that means someone has to go back to AAA, and I've chosen Kyle Manzardo, as Carlos Santana will be the everyday 1B.

So, our roster for Opening Day will look like this:

            Starting Pitchers
            Tanner Bibee
            Shane Bieber
            Gavin Williams
            Joey Cantillo
            John Means

            Bullpen
            Ben Lively
            Hunter Gaddis
            Trevor Stephan
            Paul Sewald
            Jakob Junis
            Cade Smith
            Tim Herrin
            Emmanuel Clase

I do expect to recall Sam Hentges soon, but not yet.

            Position Players
C - Bo Naylor, Austin Hedges
1B - Carlos Santana, David Fry
2B - Daniel Schneemann, Gabriel Arias
            3B - Jose Ramirez
            SS - Bryan Rocchio
            LF - Steven Kwan
CF - Lane Thomas, Tyler Freeman
RF - Jhonkensy Noel, Will Brennan

To be frank, the middle infield on this team worries me, and while the real life Guardians might let it play out this year, I am more than ready to make moves. I'm going to treat this team like I did with my Nationals team; I'm going to be realistic with my transactions, but I'll try not to be afraid to make drastic changes even though I'm playing with the team I follow. It's going to be interesting, for sure.

The Cardinals continue to get beat up on the mound and continue to get beat at the plate. Giving up runs while not scoring runs will lead to a long summer for the club and its fans.

              * Shohei Ohtani is leading the league in RBIs with 33 through roughly 4 weeks of baseball. The next closes number is Royce Lewis with 18.

              * The Astros have lost LF/DH Yordan Alvarez for the season due to a torn Achilles tendon

              * The Brewers and Nationals made the first significant trade of the 2025 season with the Brewers acquiring CJ Abrams in exchange for Garrett Mitchell
I mentioned this trade in the trade discussion thread as well. Same exact trade happened in my A's franchise. Strange on the Nationals side, they have good OF prospects. I said i'm creating the storyline that Abrams was at the Casino past curfew again and the Nationals said they're done with him. Hah

Thanks! I'm almost done with Game 2 but the Season Opener was one of the best games I've ever experienced on The Show. Your sliders are working great, and the game is definitely a massive improvement over 2022!

                  The 2025 Seattle Mariners

I don't know if that says more about my personal fitness level but do you guys also have games where you are kinda out of breath afterwards like you just played yourself? Because I just had that, but as a series.

                  Series Recap: Houston Astros
                  Game 1: L 7-10
                  Game 2: W 5-3
                  Game 3: W 5-4
The Pink Gorilla Games high performer of the series: Cal Raleigh: 6 hits, 3 HR(+ 2 doubles), 6 RBI

The first game was a rollercoaster. Altuve homered on the first pitch of the game and the Astros didn't slow down from there. 5 runs in the first 3 innings, all with small ball. That was so frustrating, because George Kirby could not get anyone out. He gave up 8 hits in 5 innings and from that those 5 runs.
But the Mariners showed morale and came back! 1 run in the 4th, 2 in the 5th, 2 in the 6th. Cal, Arozarena, Raley and Polanco homered, Arozarena batted in 3 runs overall.
But the Astros came back again, scoring another 5 runs in the 8th after 4 scoreless innings. The Mariners tried the comeback and scored another 2 in the second half of that inning, but the team was broken at this point.

The 2nd game started hot as well: Paredes and Raleigh exchanged solo shots. Then the Mariners broke out in the 3rd, scoring 3 runs. Later Yordan and Paredes hit another solo shot in the 8th and 9th, but Munoz managed the save. Again it was Arozarena and Raleigh for the Mariners that hit the ball pretty well.

The 3rd was another dramatic one. The Astros scored first: Mauricio Dubon batted Jake Meyers in, Yordan followed that up with another Home Run. But those Mariners have heart!
First Garver with a solo shot in the th, then J-Rod with a 2 run double, followed by the 3rd home run of the series by Raleigh for a 4 run 5th inning.
Then it was quite until the 9th: Paredes with the home run and Jake Meyers with the double to get the tieing run in scoring position. In the end Munoz had to get Altuve out to win the game, but he put one right up the middle. But maybe it was the T-Mobile Parks wind canal that brought the ball down early and in the hands of Randy Arozarena to finish the game off.

That felt like Playoff Baseball for 3 games in April. And the next one won't get better with a 3 run set against the other division rival out of Texas.

Re: MLB The Show 25 Franchise Discussion

The month of May came to a close as the Marlins fell back to earth finishing 20-37 17 GB of the division leading Braves. The Marlins only won 5 games this month, starting with a 9 game losing streak. Rotation and bullpen has been solid while the offense has been non existent since Xavier Edwards went down.

Some bright spots in the lineup:
                    Griffin Conine - .276 9 HR 29 RBI
                    Jonah Bride - .295 8 HR 31 RBI
                    Connor Norby - .236 10 HR 29 RBI

Some bright spots in the rotation/bullpen:
                    Sandy Alcantara - 3-6 2.79 ERA
                    Edward Cabrera 1-7 3.72 ERA
                    Ryan Weathers 4-2 3.25 ERA
George Soriano and Andrew Nardi both have ERA's below 2.15 and Anthony Bender has been solid as the closer

                    Transactions:
Optioned Max Meyer to Triple A wasn't cutting it in the majors and moved Valente Bellozo into the rotation. Claimed Michael Grove from the Dodgers. Claimed Grae Kessinger from the Diamondbacks. Optioned Eric Wagaman and called up Grae.

Going forward the Marlins will definitely be sellers as the deadline approaches and no one is off limits.

Re: MLB The Show 25 Franchise Discussion

Toronto's series didn't start off well against the nationals as they dropped the first game. This was mainly due to James Wood belting a pair of two run homers for a total of 4 RBIs on the day. The next two games, however, were much better as the Jays took the second and third game to take two out of three. Next up was the first road series of the year against the Mets, and for the first time this season, Toronto took the first game of a series, defeating the Mets 4-1 in Game 1. The second game had a heartbreaking ending as jeff Hoffman was unable to hold a 2-1 lead in the bottom of the ninth and the Mets evened things up with a 5-2 win thanks to the bat of Jeff McNeil, who drilled the walk off shot in the 9th. The rubber game saw Chris Bassitt earn the first complete game of the season for the Jays pitching staff. Unfortunately, it was on the wrong end of a 1-0 decision. So after 10 games, Toronto holds a 6-4 record, which isn't too bad. The Yankees, unsurprisingly, lead the way in the AL East atm with an 8-1 record. The Astros, however, have started things off with a perfect 9-0. Yeah, they definitely could cause problems for the AL West once again this year. Jays travel to Fenway for their next series against the Red Sox, followed by a stop in Baltimore to face off with the Orioles. Offensively, Santander and Varsho have three homers each, while Santander, Bichette and Varsho are all tied for the team RBI lead at 8 each.

                          2025 Cleveland Guardians

It's official, they will not be going 162-0...

The Guardians dropped two of three in Kansas City to start the year. The Season Opener saw Cleveland get out to an early lead, only for the Royals to rally back and tie the game in the late innings. Cleveland would drive in a run in the 11th before Emmanuel Clase gave up a walk-off 2 run home to Jonathan India to give KC an Opening Day victory. Tanner Bibee had a strong first start, going five innings and giving up a run on three hits, with one walk and four strikeouts.

Game 2 again saw Cleveland take a first inning lead, this time via a three run home run from Carlos Santana. They would maintain their lead throughout, with additional runs driven in from David Fry and a second home run from Santana. Shane Bieber was fantastic in his return from Tommy John; he went 5 innings, giving up a run on 8 hits with no walks and four strikeouts.

The rubber match was a pitcher’s duel, and the Guardians were shutout 1-0 despite Gavin Williams giving them the best start out of the three games. He left after six innings, giving up the game’s only run on three hits while walking one and striking out seven. The Guardians had more hits than the Royals, but just could not string them together, and they drop the opening series 2-1.

Cleveland will depart KC for San Diego and begin a three game series tomorrow night, as rookie Joey Cantillo will go up against Joe Musgrove.

                            Mariners Franchise

The Seattle Mariners edged out the Oakland Athletics 1-0 in a tightly contested game.

                            Winning Pitcher: Bryce Miller (SEA) – 5.0 IP, 4 H, 7 K, 0 BB, 0 ER
                            Losing Pitcher: JP Sears (OAK) – 7.0 IP, 3 H, 8 K, 0 BB, 1 ER
                            Save: Andrés Muñoz (1)

                            Game Highlights:

The lone run came from Cal Raleigh (SEA), who hit a solo home run to left field in the 2nd which ended up being proving to be the game-winner.
Oakland’s offense struggled, with lone bright spot, Tyler Soderstrom (2-for-3).
Seattle’s pitching held strong, with Bryce Miller leading the way and Muñoz securing the save.
A dominant pitching duel where a single swing decided the game!

Series Notes: Seattle takes 3 of 4 with dominant pitching, striking out 32 in 36 innings and holding The Athletics to less than 2 runs in 3 of 4 games.

Cardinals swept by Braves as struggles continue

The Cardinals (9-16) were swept by the Braves in Atlanta to start the week. The Cardinals now find themselves 6.5 games out of first place of the NL Central.

Its the same song and dance. The Cardinals pitching staff is going beat up and the bats have no life to them. Erick Fedde is the only starter who's ERA is currently under 5. The bullpen has been good, but got beat up in this series.

Offensively, outside of Nolan Gorman and Alec Burleson, there is really no production. The starting outfield has no one with an average over .180, Brendan Donovan, Masyn Winn, and Nolan Arenado have seen production plummet. Willson Contreras is striking out in nearly 50% of his at-bats. Ivan Herrera just returned to the team from injury.

Not sure what switch needs to be flipped or what needs to be done to try and turn things around, but if this trend continues, the Cardinals will be lucky to win 60 games this season.
I can't shave with my eyes closed, meaning each day I have to look at myself in the mirror and respect who I see.

I miss the old days of Operation Sports :(

Do you already have the "FIRE SALE" sign ready for the clubhouse?
