Just finished my Red Sox series myself. I can't hit with Julio for the life of me. Think I force too much with my superstars. Raking Homeruns with Raleigh though and currently have a wild 21 game hitting streak with J.P. Crawford. Also hitting well with Lule Raley.

Re: MLB The Show 25 Franchise Discussion

A college detour before going pro for 3 prospects!

      Frank Thomas – 6’5 – 240 – 1B
      Potential A – 54 overall

While he played pretty good baseball in college, Thomas wasn’t happy with the result. The Volunteers lose a 9-8 game in finals against the South Carolina Gamecocks. “Not the was I wanted to go out, but we never gave up after trailing 7-1 early in the game.”

Re-entering the draft at 21 after being drafted by the Reds second overall at 18, Thomas did better this time around, going 1st overall, again with the Reds. “I guess those guys really wanted me, didn’t they?!”. Thomas will now report to the Lookouts and start is pro career in the AA.

      Kirby Puckett – 5’8 – 184 – CF
      Potential B – 52 overall

“You can do it many ways, and you can do it Puckett’s way!” Vandy Manager. The Commanders we’re stuck in a close one against TCU at the College Baseball Championship. Coming to the plate with runners on first and second, Puckett choose the moment to hit his first hit in two games and gave the W to his team.

Potential B overall, Puckett didn’t care while entering the draft. The St. Louis Cardinals saw something in him good enough to make him the 13th pick of the 2nd round. “I’m happy to go to Springfield and happy that a team believed in me. Now’s time to make it work!” said an emotional Puckett.

      Ozzie Smith – 5’11 – 160 – SS
      Potential A – 53 overall

The UCLA Bruins weren’t seen as CBC Champions, but man o’ man did they deliver in every way. Strong defense led by the magician at SS, the Bruins offense clicked on time to get a 9-4 win over the Cal-State Fullerton Titans. Smith played well, hitting 3 singles in the game while contributing to 2 RBI’s.

While picked 23rd in the 2nd round by the Braves few years ago, this time around, he went 14th in the 2nd round with the Brewers. “I guess that work paid in college, and to make it even better, I got out of there with a championship. Can’t ask for more.” said a humble Smith.

The Tigers have an off day on Thursday, then will host the Baltimore Orioles (14-10) for a weekend three game series. Following that, the Tigers will head out on a nine game road trip, with stops in Houston, the LA Angels, and Colorado.

        TIGERS NOTES

Following the game on Wednesday, Kenta Maeda was placed on the 15 day I.L. He is scheduled to undergo tests on Thursday, but the fear is that he may need season ending elbow surgery. No corresponding roster move was made, but it is expected that Jackson Jobe will be recalled to take Maeda's spot in the rotation.

          2025 Houston Astros 04/14-04/16

Overall Record: 11-7 (2nd AL West/0.5 behind Seattle)

          Game Results:

          Game 1
          Cardinals-3
          Astros-0

          Game 2
          Astros-4
          Cardianls-3

          Game 3
          Astros-6
          Cardinals-4

Astros take two of three in St. Louis.

Sonny Gray was great for St. Louis in their first matchup against the Astros. He was perfect through five innings while his offense had the lead after a solo homerun by Alec Burleson (4) and RBI singles by Michael Siani and Masyn Winn. His perfect game would end however as he Chas Mccormick and then, his no hitter was lost on the next batter when Jose Altuve hit a ground ball single into left field.

Still, the Astros only managed three hits against him in the game and none against the bullpen arms who pitched the 7th-9th innings. Needless to say, that Astros also didnt score and took the game one loss, 3-0.

Framber Valdez also pitched six for the Astros but didnt fare as well as he allowed 9 hits and 3 runs as his early season record slipped to 1-2.

Jake Meyers has been a liability offensively as could likely have been expected and predicted by most experts. However, in game two, his defense proved he can still be valuable for the team.

That is because he had not one but two outfield assists in the second game against the Cardinals. The first came in the fourth inning when he threw out Willson Contreras as he tried to advance from 1st to 3rd on a perfectly executed hit and run by Alec Burleson. Meyers' throw was right on the money and Contreras was caught by Paredes' tag. At the time, that took away a scoring opportunity for St. Louis as Houston held on to a 1-0 lead.

The second assist came in the the seventh inning that preserved a 2-1 lead when he threw Nolan Arenado out at home.

Eventually, Houston took a 4-1 lead into the 9th. A lead that they needed as Josh Hader gave up two in the inning to make it a 4-3 lead before he was able to close it out for his sixth save of the season.

Speaking of saves, Hader got another in game three this one was much cleaner as he gave up just one hit and no runs as the Astros took the 6-4 win and the series win, 2-1. Ronel Blanco was solid again in his start in this game although he only pitched five innings as he was still recovering from his last game which was a CG SO. In those five innings he did allow six hits and two runs but he also struck out eight to for now, give him the AL lead at 30 on the season.

The Astros now have an off day before they return home to face the Padres (10-9/2nd NL West/2.5 behind Los Angeles).

It's funny to see your updates especially with J.P. Crawford who hits around .170 for me. He had a couple of big hits, but somehow I can't figure out how to make solid contact with his swing.

Raley is crazy in this game, yeah. He actually leads the AL in WAR in my save at this point of the season. I don't know what it is, because his attributes aren't that impressive, but every time I need a hit he produces.

Arozarena is another one I struggle with, similar situation as with J.P. If I hit with him, it's at least for extra bases.

Cardinals win another series this time against the Nationals

The Cardinals (18-23) won their second straight series, this time taking 2 of 3 from the Nationals in Washington over Mother's Day weekend. The Cardinals have moved to within 6 games of the Reds who are struggling at the moment.

The Cardinals were looking for their second straight sweep after winning Friday and Saturday night, but failed to get the job done on Mother's Day Sunday, as the bullpen blew a lead in the 7th and the bats couldn't get the Cards back into the game.

The Cardinals bats were able to overcome poor pitching on Saturday, putting up 11 runs on 17 hits to help win the game 11-10 over the Nationals.

Nolan Arenado had a series going 8 for 13 with 2 homeruns and a whopping 12 RBIs in the series.

The Cardinals will now travel to Philiadelphia to start the week with a 3 game series against the Phillies.

Brendan Donovan to IL with hamstring injury

The Cardinals have placed LF/2B Brendan Donovan on the 10 Day IL with a hamstring injury. Donovan was injured in Saturday's game pulling up lame running out a groundball in the 3rd inning. Donovan has been struggling as of late with an avg just above .200 and striking out far too often.

Jordan Walker, who was just optioned to Memphis, was recalled to fulfill the roster spot

                      Good question!

I was looking for a place to share my RTTS progress. Since there's no thread to be found, I wanted to join the party!

So, what you see is the progress of my 8 RTTS players. I do that every year now. I play one week of every guy and cycle so it doesn't get too repetitive.

It's the first year I share the progress. I usually have an Excel sheet to track things (I'm kind of old school) and analyse progress of attributes, stats swings, etc.

So, hope it's less confusing now (maybe not more enjoyable, but at least, more clear!)

Cardinals swept by Phillies in Philadelphia

The Cardinals (18-26) were swept in a 3 game series by the Phillies in Philadelphia to begin the week. The Cardinals are 6.5 back of the Reds as everyone in the NL Central is struggling to put a winning streak together.

The Cardinals have now lost 4 straight after achieving a season best 5 game winning streak before it was snapped by the Nationals on Sunday.

The offense was stagnant this series. The Cardinals were shutout twice and had a total of 13 hits in the two games. Pitching was solid, although once again, a few arms in the bullpen failed to keep things at bay. John King blew up on Monday night. Wednesday afternoon it was Kyle Leahy. Tuesday night was a scoreless game in the 9th, until Nick Castellanos singled home the game winning run.

The Cardinals will now be off on Thursday as they travel to Kansas City for a 3 game weekend series with the AL Central leading Royals.

I only play this mode so another good question here!

It's different. I have a sense (and won't go back seeing previous years) that we're back to where the game was few years ago (MLBTS historian could step in).

I was used to the "card" system and having some sort of "presets" skills. The 25 RTTS version is letting you decide where you put points, making you set the type of player you want to be, but in the other hand, no more farming to have the card and start with better player in AA (I know, I know lol).

Since I play the same way than I was in previous years, can't speak about the impact of the ambush, 1st person-cam, etc. What I will say though is that the fun factor with the College games are incredible. Geez that it's something with the fences, the bats, the fight songs! Short lived but pretty cool.

Oh, and the biggest change as far as I'm concern is the fact that equipment are now equal. No more Adidas has the best stats to run, Louisville Slugger the best contact and power, etc. Now, you have the same % of impact from all the Diamond gear, the Gold gear and the Silver gear. Range from 2% impact to 6% impact on some attributes.

Not sold on the perk system, but didn't get far enough yet to really give an impression.

Yet again, I'm an only RTTS mode player, and by far, this is the best one between the sports games, so you won't hear me complain much about 25 version!

                              2025 Cleveland Guardians

Guardians start the series strong, but fizzle out in the finale

                              Game 1: W 7-3 , Win: Jakob Junis (1-0), Loss: Shane Smith (0-2)
                              Game 2: W 8-1; Win: Trevor Stephan (2-0), Loss: Cam Booser (1-1)
                              Game 3: L 4-2; Win: Davis Martin (2-0), Loss: Shane Bieber (2-1)

The Guardians opened up Progressive Field with a victory against the (somehow) division leading White Sox. John Means would have a great start, but only go four innings because of a high pitch count. He allowed all three of Chicago’s runs, but managed to strike out seven batters as well. Martin Perez did his best to keep the Guardians offense at bay, but Chicago’s lack of bullpen depth allowed the offense to catch fire, as Jose Ramirez, Carlos Santana, Jhonkensy Noel, Daniel Schneemann and Brayan Rocchio all drove in runs.

Game two started out slowly for Cleveland, as they mounted almost no offense until the 7th inning. And then, for the second night in a row, they attacked Chicago’s bullpen with a vengeance: They would send 11 men to the plate, and drive in eight runs. Jhonkensy Noel would homer twice in the inning, the first a pinch-hit solo shot to start the onslaught and then he would put a cap on the scoring with a three run bomb later on. Noel has been a real spark for the offense so far this season, although he does struggle mightily against righties. He still may need to have a spot in the lineup just for the threat he poses in the batter’s box. Tanner Bibee had a solid start, but did not factor in the decision despite going 7 innings of 1 run ball.

Game three looked like it would result in a Guards sweep, judging by the momentum of the last two days. It was not to be, however, as the offense seemed to use up all their mojo. They did manage to get two runs on Jose Ramirez’s second home run of the year, but that was about all. Shane Bieber started out good enough, but lost command in the fifth and allowed Chicago to manage two runs, which broke the 2-2 tie and would lead to their eventual victory.

Cleveland has moved into a first place tie with the White Sox at 7-5, although how Chicago can manage to stay at the top is anyone’s guess. They have no offense, no bullpen, and limited starting pitching. That said, they play hard and showed in the series finale that they can put together a winning ballgame. As for Cleveland, they need some production from Lane Thomas. In 9 games (he missed some time with a strained…something, I forget) he is batting .132 with 1 RBI, no home runs, no walks, and 3 steals. Thomas is a major component in this lineup, and if he can’t contribute, the Guardians will need to look at other options.

The Guardians will stay in Cleveland to take on the Kansas City Royals (5-8) in a weekend series.
