Cubs get swept by the Padres

Cubs (5-7) lose 3 straight at home against SD. Pitching has gotten worse! ERA over 8 against the Padres. Our offense is producing but hasnt been enough.

To make matters worse Pete Crow Armstrong is out 2-3 months. He had been the table setter of our offense in early going. Called up Jankowski and will platoon him with Brujan for the time being.

Up next is Tex at home!

First series of the season has wrapped up for the Toronto Blue Jays. Ending in a stalemate against the O’s with both teams going 2-2. Starting pitching was great for the Jays until the last game, with Berrios giving up 4 runs in 5 innings. Jays bats were [emoji91] throughout the series, hitting a total of 10 home runs.

          Record: 2-2 3rd AL East

Up next: 3 game set against the 0-3 Nationals

Cardinals drop series to Mets as rough stretch continues

The Cardinals (9-13) dropped 3 games of the 4 game series with the Mets at Citi Field in Queens. The Cardinals are now 4 games back of the division leader Reds and continue to drift further back.

The Cardinals continue to get beat up on the mound and continue to get beat at the plate. Giving up runs while not scoring runs will lead to a long summer for the club and its fans.

The Cardinals will now head to Atlanta for a 3 game series with the Braves.

            News and Notes

            * Shohei Ohtani is leading the league in RBIs with 33 through roughly 4 weeks of baseball. The next closes number is Royce Lewis with 18.

            * The Astros have lost LF/DH Yordan Alvarez for the season due to a torn Achilles tendon

            * The Brewers and Nationals made the first significant trade of the 2025 season with the Brewers acquiring CJ Abrams in exchange for Garrett Mitchell

Re: MLB The Show 25 Franchise Discussion

My Nationals franchise is..."A deep drive to left field by Castellanos!"

Well, well, well...it seems like whatever I post here turns out to be false. Maybe I should be a politician. Anyway, a funny thing happened...I bought MLBTS25..I couldn't help myself, I wanted the new features, I wanted the new scheduling, I wanted Paul Skenes, I wanted to get rid of Julio Urias and Wander Franco, I wanted the freaking Guardians City Connect unis for some reason. So we start again. Will I return to the 22 Nats Franchise? I don't know, maybe? It really was so fun, but I'm a sucker for being able to play all 29 teams in a season.

I've decided to break from tradition by starting this franchise with my hometown team, the Cleveland Guardians. They fit the bill for what I love doing in a franchise: small market, young talent, great ballpark. I'm a little upset with them in real life after they traded away Josh Naylor and Andres Gimenez, and that anger should make it easier for me to make my own roster moves in the game. I've already decided to drift from reality by keeping Shane Bieber in the starting rotation for Opening Day. In real life, he'll probably be out until the summer, but in my franchise he will be the number two start, after Tanner Bibee. I'm also going to have David Fry available, despite also being injured until summertime in real life. Unfortunately that means someone has to go back to AAA, and I've chosen Kyle Manzardo, as Carlos Santana will be the everyday 1B.

So, our roster for Opening Day will look like this:

              Starting Pitchers
              Tanner Bibee
              Shane Bieber
              Gavin Williams
              Joey Cantillo
              John Means

              Bullpen
              Ben Lively
              Hunter Gaddis
              Trevor Stephan
              Paul Sewald
              Jakob Junis
              Cade Smith
              Tim Herrin
              Emmanuel Clase

I do expect to recall Sam Hentges soon, but not yet.

              Position Players
C - Bo Naylor, Austin Hedges
1B - Carlos Santana, David Fry
2B - Daniel Schneemann, Gabriel Arias
              3B - Jose Ramirez
              SS - Bryan Rocchio
              LF - Steven Kwan
CF - Lane Thomas, Tyler Freeman
RF - Jhonkensy Noel, Will Brennan

To be frank, the middle infield on this team worries me, and while the real life Guardians might let it play out this year, I am more than ready to make moves. I'm going to treat this team like I did with my Nationals team; I'm going to be realistic with my transactions, but I'll try not to be afraid to make drastic changes even though I'm playing with the team I follow. It's going to be interesting, for sure.

Re: MLB The Show 25 Franchise Discussion

Here's the Opening Day Roster for the 2025 Toronto Blue Jays:
                Position players:
OF: Anthony Santander, George Springer, Daulton Varsho, Davis Schneider, Nathan Lukes
                C: Alejandro Kirk, Tyler Heineman
INF: Andres Gimenez, Bo Bichette, Vladimir Guerrero Jr., Ernie Clement, Addison Barger, Will Wagner
                Pitching staff:
                Rotation:
                Bowden Francis
                Kevin Gausman
                Jose Berrios
                Max Scherzer
                Chris Bassitt
                Bullpen:
                Alek Manoah
                Angel Bastardo
                Chad Green
                Erik Swanson
                Tommy Nance
                Yimi Garcia (Set Up)
                Ryan Burr (Set Up)
                Jeff Hoffman (Closer)
                Notable off field news:
Vlad Jr. given 14 year extension prior to Spring Training, thus ensuring that the big slugger stays in Toronto for his entire career
Bowden Francis named Opening Day starter. Francis impressed during pre-season play with an earned run average of 2.45, and the young right hander was rewarded by being given his first career Opening Day nod.
Toronto starts the season at home with four games against Baltimore. How will new Jays Scherzer, Santander and Hoffman fare? We'll find out over the course of the season

                  The 2025 Seattle Mariners

Man, that was a fun series!

                  Series Recap: SF Giants
                  Game 1: W 10-4
                  Game 2: W 5-4
                  Game 3: L 2-6
The Pink Gorilla Games high performer of the series: Luke Raley: 7 hits, 3 HR, 4 runs, 2 stolen bases

This was the series of the heroes in the second row.
Game 1 saw home runs by Randy Arozarena, Luke Raley(2x) and Jorge Polanco. 2 RBI by Mitch Garver and J.P. Crawford. It was the end of the lineup that basically won the game in the 4th inning with 7 runs. From there on the bench came in and San Francisco was able to put at least some runs on the board.

Game 2 was my favorite game of the season so far because that was a back and forth that was so exciting. We went up 3 in the 2nd inning, the Giants came back and took the lead in the 4th. A solo shot by Cal Raleigh in the 8th was the equalizer and then big boy Rowdy Tellez stepped to the plate and hit a 2 out solo shot in the 9th. Matt Brash and Andres Munoz closed the game out then in the second half of the inning.

The 3rd game was tough. Julio finished his first game without a hit, again multiple errors running the bases. On the other hand all Bryce Miller could do was giving up homeruns or striking someone out. There was a chance to come back in the 8th 2 runs down, with 2 man on bases and Cal Raleigh coming to the plate but he could not score a hit and in the second half of the inning Mike Yastrzemski hit a 2 run HR to finish the game off.

Still, pretty optimistic coming out of the series. The guys who saved some wins in the first two series took some games off and the other guys stepped up. Especially Luke Raley: If he continues to play like that it would give the Mariners something that could not be planned for before the season: Another explosive offensive option.

And then you look at the pitchers:
George Kirby: 22 strikeouts to 3 walks, 1.29 ERA
                  Logan Gilbert: 2.57 ERA
                  Bryan Woo: 15 K to 4 walks
                  Bryce Miller: 15 K in 2 games

That is a receipe for success.

Next up there will be a 3 game home series against the Astros, which will be a good test for the roleplayers.

Re: MLB The Show 25 Franchise Discussion

The other 4 took the field and he're we go!

                    Cal Ripken Jr. – 6’4 – 205 – 3B
                    Potential B – 52 overall

“Not happy about the combine, I didn’t play the way I should, or I could.” Those we’re the first words from Ripken Jr. after the combine. Not that he was good, but the batting, especially the curveballs gave him a lot of trouble.

Anyhow, with the 24th pick in the second, the Washington Nationals drafted him. Ripken Jr. had committed to South Carolina; he changed is mind after the draft and reported to the Harrisburgh Senators. “We’re going to take care of him, he’s a diamond in the rough!” said the National GM.

                    Ichiro Suzuki – 5’11 – 175 – RF
                    Potential B – 51 overall

This was just not his prime moment, to say the least. Ichiro was thrown to knees and ribs in the State Championship Finals, while at the combine, he seemed to have lost the field like Chuck Knoblauch did many years ago. Said one scout: “Saying his fielding was off is an understatement, it was horrible.”

Ichiro was so upset about it he didn’t speak with the media after the combine and before the draft. He was all smile after being drafted by the Astros in the 4th round (8 pick). “I played like garbage, and I was drafted by the Astros, I guess it’s just made sense.”. He’ll probably blame the translator, for good reasons!

                    Ryne Sandberg – 6’1 – 175 – 2B
                    Potential A – 53 overall

Frank Thomas stoled the show in the Combine, but Ryne Sandberg was the most impressive overall. A vacuum at 2nd base, a hitting machine at the plate, not only he was doing it all, but the contagious attitude on his team was seeable. “Wow, just Wow. Did I say Wow? I’ll say it just to be sure, that guy is plain and simple Wow, Wow, Wow!” said a Minnesota Twins scouts.

No surprise that the Twins, using the 30th pick in the 1st round selected Sandberg. After a brief chat with Stephanie Saunders, Sandberg took a plane to Wichita where he’ll start at 2nd base for the Wind Surge. “Wouldn’t be surprised to see the guy in the major at 19 or 20 years old” said the Wichita Manager

                    Ozzie Smith – 5’11 – 160 – SS
                    Potential A – 53 overall

When Ozzie takes the field, you can feel some magic entering the game. And there was no shortcut of magic in Ozzie’s game at the State Championship and Combine. “I was confident I could deliver and show what I can do. I’m happy with the results.” said the short stop.

Picked late in the 2nd round, by the Atlanta Braves, Smith decided to go for the college path and choose UCLA. He’ll be a Bruin for 3 years, looking ahead to make his AA debut after entering the draft for a second time.

                    Next up:
                    Frank Thomas – Tennessee
                    Kirby Pucket – Vanderbilt
                    Ozzie Smith - UCLA
"Ice hockey is a form of disorderly conduct in which the score is kept." - Doug Larson

Re: MLB The Show 25 Franchise Discussion

The 2025 Blue Jays kicked off their season at home against Baltimore, and Bowden Francis' first Opening Day start didn't exactly go too well as he allowed four runs over five innings. He was in line for the win after five, however, thanks to a six run fourth inning by Toronto's bats. Unfortunately, Rule 5 pick Angel Bastardo couldn't hold it and the Jays lost 7-6. In the second game, the Jays finally got their first win of the season as they rode strong pitching from Kevin Gausman, who fanned 11 over seven innings. Jeff Hoffman picked up his first save as the new Jays closer. Games three and four saw Toronto win via walk off in the bottom of the 9th in both games. Addison Barger got his first start of the year in game three and collected four hits in four at bats. In game four, however, George Springer got injured diving back into first on a pickoff attempt. Thankfully, the injury isn't too bad, and he will likely miss the first game of Toronto's next series against the Nationals at minimum. Toronto goes into the series sporting a 3-1 record while the Nationals sit at 1-2. It is still very early, however, and anything can still happen

D’Backs start the 2025 season in style as Corbin Carroll homers on the first pitch the D’Backs see and Geraldo Perdomo completes the comeback with a walk off single to beat the Cubbies.

I "started" tonight. Hired my scouts, but I'm going to take my time making equipment edits before I get going.

Going back to selecting the default roster at the franchise setup screen rather than importing a roster update. Two little things that make me happy:

                              1. It looks like most of the injured players are on their teams' respective 40-man rosters to start. On a quick look, Eury Pérez is the biggest one who isn't. So I won't have to jump through hoops to get Joe Jiménez on my 26.

                              2. Veterans really will take one-year deals. Last year, I tried to sign some mid 30s, 50-rated RP and he refused anything other than a multiyear deal. But it looks like I'm going to be able to add Kimbrel on a realistic one-year deal.
