Hopefully many of these items will be coming soon. In my opinion, while The Show may be the best playing game out of all the major sports gaming titles it is also the most stagnant of all of them. We have tweaks to the gameplay, animations, etc. that make the experience slightly better each year and we have had some items such as scouting and free agency which have been modified over the past few versions but it my opinion the total experience hasn't really changed much. I think there are many things that should be here that aren't (I know we don't want to make this a wish list thread but I can't stop myself).
*Customized season lengths, divisions, game lengths, etc. This should be a must. NBA2K, NHL, Super Mega Baseball can all do this--MLB The Show should have this.
*Record tracking. I should be able to see the top 20 batting averages in Brewer history, career hit leaders in Brewers history, etc. This should apply to career, single game, single season for all teams and league history.
*Carry over saves from year to year like we used to have.
*Multiple commentary teams. NBA, NCAA Football and Madden both have multiple commentary teams. I think The Show definitely should have this. Change it up over the course of the season. Even the old Tony Larusa Baseball used to have 3 announcing options (granted they were limited but I think in 2025 we should have more variety).
*My personal #1 wish is for an Era's mode similar to NBA2K. I understand it would be harder in MLB The Show due to more players but this would be great.
*Online franchise mode. This one maybe would be harder given season lengths but if we have the customization I could see it potentially working with creativity. Maybe 30 game seasons or something like that.
*Managers. Each team should have CPU managers with their own specific playing styles.
*General Managers. Each team should have CPU general managers with their own specific team building styles and personalites.
*One thing I want is a mode with faster gameplay. Maybe it is something like in PGA2K golf where once I hit a shot I can hit the triangle to "fast forward" the outcome. This is probably my #2 desire behind Era mode. As someone who would like to get though 162 games (though I rarely even come close) with limited time this would be awesome. There isn't any value to me to sit and stare at a routine pop out anyway. Let me "hold triangle" to fast forward outcome. I think they should do something like this (maybe strip away every possible thing they can) to have a "fast mode" where you could complete an entire game in 15-20 minutes. I think it would be possible. That would be the sweet spot for me. I'd like to experience a complete game in condensed time. Quick counts and "fast forward" button may get me close. I think this should be a rather simple add.
Another area where I think MLB The Show is really missing out is online. They have their Diamond Dynasty which I believe is pretty popular. I think they should take a look at 2K's playbook and have a whole online portion around your Road to the Show player. Just like NBA 2K and PGA 2K. I think you could do something similar here which would be fun. Have "The Sandlot" where you could take your player and join in on 3 inning live games (or have different options) similar to how NBA The Rec works. You are playing with other players but each playing your own positions. You could have leagues, just random rec games, stat tracking leaderboards, etc. I could see this type of mode being very popular and on par with "The City" in NBA 2K if designed well. It would be fun to take your player and try to get that game winning hit for your online teammates or make a diving catch to save a game.
I think there are many things The Show should be doing. Major features that could be added here. Instead, in my opinion, you could go back and play MLB 20 and still have a fine experience. Is it as good as MLB25? Probably not but it really isn't significantly different (I am someone who likes to play with historic rosters from time to time so still regularly play each of MLB20, 21, 22, 23 and 24--while there are differences it really isn't that big of deal to me as I play each version. I'm not saying the old ones are better but I am saying each version is very similar and they all play fine).
