One thing I think we need to ponder for team-specific theme teams as Season 6 draws near....

Which Captain helps your squad the most? Yes, the Set 1/2 captains are lower OVRs, but in some cases, the boosts may better complement your overall roster.

For my Reds, a good argument can be made for the boosts given by the Votto Captain card for Set 1 vs the Cameron Set 5 Captain (yes, we're ignoring the Tony Perez Set 3, lol - speaking of Tony, I could see him being in tomorrow's program).

So for you, say a nice Brock is added in the program. Would it be better to skip on that in lieu of his Captain card OR would it be better for the overall team build to skip on McGwire's 99 and go with his Captain card instead (allowing you to use the 99 Brock)?

If you haven't done so recently...I would toy around with it a little...

Edit: yes, I totally geek-out a bit on stuff like this...I wish we had more ways to do this for DD.
Play the games you love, not the games you want to love.

I'm with you in that and the real reason I like the Brock capt is because of the +15 to speed .. that really helps the whole lineup .. and the the power wouldn't help too much because most of the stats are pretty good already .. trust me I have been thinking about it as well .. .( I'm a geek like that as well .. thats why I like the different capts and to use players with them that don't usually get used )

Outside of Kwan, I really dislike the 2023 finest guys - honestly preferring "lesser" versions of many of the same players (I think there is such a thing as overjuicing some cards - you lose their "ID"). It's making making that Finest program brutal (I wouldn't even bother with it if it weren't for Raines).

As bass-ackwards as this may sound...try seeing how you do with those guys WITHOUT the Captain boost.
I was actually going to do that in ranked (drop durability boost) so I could use elly as my wild card and then go switch hitter heavy. The boost wasn't providing me much of a boost.

But yeah Soto and Bryan Reynolds I'm hitting like 200 online with. Trout like 240-260

Carroll/adley/jram/belli all hitting over 475 with and have alot more abs.

I would say I don't play as much right now as I did two months ago being a partial excuse but in this event those set 3 guys I'm still hitting great with... So I think it's just the newer cards are broken, I'll go with that.

I've dabbled with nearly every captain card in the game (I made it a point to buy them all when they came out). I'm definitely a HUGE fan of the short kings/tall kings captain cards.

I think the Tall Kings card in particular could easily be a "meta" card - 97s get boosted to the point of being on par with most "pure" 99s and 99s get crazy good H/9 and K/9 when boosted with this Captain. There's a NICE mix of different styles of SPs you can use here (Waino and Wacha are disgusting with this theme team). I prefer mainly hard throwers but there's also a nice pool of sinker/cutter guys eligible as well. If you have stubs to blow on a Captain...blow it here....

The Short Kings card may be a little more of a "taste" thing, but if you prefer shorter players/shorter strike zones for your hitters, it definitely can work. The C/1B/CF pool is pretty shallow (but with viable options at each spot), but there are some REALLY good swing-based hitters (like J-Ram, Rollins, Altuve, Raines) and you get sizable boosts vs RHP (plus nice boosts to fielding). And even though the Morgan captain card doesn't have great numbers vs LHP, his swing is so good that he still slaps balls pretty hard. (Edit: if you're looking to do a theme team for Season 5, this one is a lot more viable with Set 4/5 cards than the Tall Kings)

I still like the Clemente program hitting captain (Lindor), which you almost definitely have (as I believe you've grinded-out a lot). Definitely check-out the player pool again (I think the Season 5 releases have added more depth to the player pool).

Depending on your thoughts about older era players, the 50s-60s Mays card is pretty fun. Nice speed/fielding boosts plus hitting. I actually prefer the 70s-80s era personally, but the Bench captain card doesn't particularly stand-out to me.
I think it would be cool if they let you use more different versions of the same player on a team. I tried to make an all-time Braves team tonight and was disappointed to learn I could only use 1 version of player.

I'm a little meh on it tbh - strictly from a theme team perspective. Brock fits on the 50s-60s team and Torre on the 70s-80s team, that's about it (outside of team-specific theme teams).

Nonetheless, it should be a better program to work towards than the 2023 OKest program. I DO like some of the players; they're just not great theme team fits.

I'm still holding-out hope for one more round of creative captains....

Interesting stats from my broken *** juan soto...I have him on my fantasy team so I like to use my dynasty fantasy team guys.

To compare 4 players and my online stats...

                  Juan Soto 65 AB's and batting .185 with 21 SO & 6 HR

                  Corbin Carroll (set 3) 79 AB's and batting .506 with 8 SO & 19 HR

                  Jose Ramirez (set 3) 105 AB's and batting .448 with 12 SO & 28 HR

                  Cody Bellinger (set 3) 148 AB's and batting .419 with 7 SO & 27 HR

27 strikeouts in 332 AB's with those 3 vs almost as many strikeouts with Soto in 65 AB's...lol

I should prob give up on him but I'm still trying...my adley, chipper, mickey, all have #'s like the other guys online. I tend to always suck horribly with kyle tucker as he's on my dynasty team too and I always want to do good with him

I just got a jumbo pack and 80% of the cards in it were free agents. That sucks because free agents are completely useless when it comes to exchanging players towards team affinity programs.

Pretty normal in my experience. As the season goes on, the attrition from injuries and waivers generates a ton of low-rated (and therefore higher pack pull probability) FAs who are generally worthless.

During the TA programs, I exchanged my dupes of those junk FAs for higher-rated cards. I then exchanged the resulting cards in the TA programs.

I feel like we should be able to exchange free agent cards for packs or something. Even if they're standard Show packs.

There's SO many free agent cards and they don't even work on theme teams or in TA exchanges. Exchanging up the ladder for cards directly is tedious as well.

Went 11-4 in event today, game seemed to play much better than last week. I got rid of that broke *** Soto and been using Dylan crews again.

Hit well, only two of the 15 games had a bad connection... One was really bad and one was in Houston, didn't buffer but noticeable input lag so I think that was more the stadium

Online just felt very off last week but could've just been me.

At 22 wins and hoping to get to 30 by Friday but not sure if I'll play enough. Would like to get the kodai senga for free vs 1mill

I've been trying to finish my live series and can't get Mookie Betts because the price keeps going up. Every time I think I've got enough stubs to buy him I go and attempt to and the price has increased again. Getting pretty frustrating cause he's the last NL player I need. I only need deGrom, Trout and Ohtani to complete the AL.

Just keep trying. I’m guessing the price will go down when the forever program floods the market with more packs.

One thing I’ve learned in this first year of playing MLBTS - do the live series collection early, before player ratings get revised up and their card prices skyrocket. Also before the regular packs get filled up with worthless FAs due to roster turnover as the season progresses. And finally, before so many other diamond cards get added via programs/packs to reduce your probability of pulling any given live series diamond via packs.

It’s going to be tough, good luck!

Thanks to the scouting report pack i have all the set 2 captains and i believe my 2 favorites from the pack is the Arm accuracy and 70s 80s teams... i really wish we have a 90s hitting captain that would be a blast to my child hood .. i do enjoy the tall guys pitching captain as well but i usually have the 90s pitching captain on my teams ... do they go crazy and give up new captains for season 6??
