Re: MLB 09 "Road To The Show" thread
Slugging Percentage = Total Bases/At Bats
so a single is one total base, double two, triple is three and home run is four.
so if you go 2 for 4 with a single and a home run ...
5 total bases/4 at bats = 1.250 slugging
if you have any other questions like this, Wikipedia is a great resource (like with just about everything else these days) ...

Re: MLB 09 "Road To The Show" thread
Quick update on my progression.
When we left off my 20 year old SS made the Orioles major league club (YES!), but only as a spot starter and pinch runner (NO!).
Things stayed like that for almost two months, with me basically losing lord knows how many progression points (although my sunflower seed spitting skill is now in the 70s).
Finally in late May I got sent down to AAA Tidewater as the starting SS on the team. Getting regular playing time I was able to build up some of my stats and had decent success (hit .275, 20 SBs while playing a good shortstop).
Unfortunately my season got interrupted with a broken shin bone in August, so I missed about the last month of the season.
I was able to get a decent amount of training done, but basically ate three months of progression through the injury and time with the big league club.
After the season however I was again invited to the spring training, and am still the top shortstop in the organization.
Heading into the next season I again made the big league club, but this time am the outright starter at SS. My ratings are something like ...
CHR - 61
CHL - 59
PWR - 39
PWL - 40
SPD - 70
Fielding - 54
Arm - 55
Acc - 53
And my scouting profile looks like this ...
Contact - C
Power - D
Speed - C
Fielding - D
So i'm going to concentrate on my fielding this season and also try to push my hitting up a few points.
Incidentally I have played for some HORRIBLE teams so far. Damn near every team I have played on from AA up to the Orioles has either been in last place or next to last. I haven't even sniffed the playoffs. If you can read this, you don't need glasses.Comment

Re: MLB 09 "Road To The Show" thread
Sorry to hear about your bogus AA squads my friend! I had a little more luck on my side though... Tennessee Smokies ball club was DOMINATE throughout the 2009 season, just won the Southern League North Division Championship Series and now I'm moving on to play the Jacksonville Suns

The game against the Huntsville Stars was a pitcher's duel for sure, and because of that I came out with a no decision

Here are Vaughn's pitching STATS for his first playoff game: I'm a little hesitant to move up to HOF cause I know when I step up to AAA or the MLB for that matter, I'm going to get thrown around like a rag doll.

I'll post updates after I complete the final series against the Suns!Comment

Re: MLB 09 "Road To The Show" thread
Right now, I'm a catcher for the Twins organization, so I want out because it would probably take forever to surpass Mauer, so I want a trade. I was wondering when this interaction shows up for most of you, as I just passed the All-Star break and it isn't there yet. I have the PS2 version, if it makes a difference.
I'm doing pretty good so far. The Twins have so many injuries, I'm the starting catcher for AAA. After a few games of batting sub .200, I got the hang of it and I'm now batting around .280, but I have no homeruns. At one point, I had a 14 game hitting streak, but the next game, I went 0-7 in a extra inning game that we lost. I was so mad at myself that I couldn't get one measly hit.Comment

asking for a trade should show up in july, I just got called up for the second time in 2012 and Im doing pretty good. Im the #2 rated rf on the team behind jd drew and hes 36 so if he retires after this year I might get the permanent call up next season.Comment

Now that my contact and power attributes are in the 70s, I hit 11/40/.280 in my first month and a half!
Hitting in RTTS at the beginning is absolutely infuriating, but if you stick with it, you notice improvements!Comment

Re: MLB 09 "Road To The Show" thread
I hate how your performance is not weighed when they decide if you pitch in the bullpen or the rotation. I failed 2 goal sets in a row, but it consisted of bunting(I'm in the AL, never been up to the plate), reaction time, and arm accuracy. I have been able to field the ball ONE time during 30+ appearances. Most the balls hit back up the middle are rocket shots and aren't able to be fielded. After I failed those 2 goal sets they send me to the bullpen. My previous 19 and 2/3 innings I gave up 7 ER, but they don't care about that, they'd rather me work on non pitching stuff and have a guy with a 5.55 ERA take my spot in the rotation.
So, as you can tell I was pissed. In my first appearance back in the bull pen I still wasn't happy, and I got absolutely destroyed. Also, my fielders turned back into 1st graders again(had 3 or 4 errors while I was pitching). I gave up 7 runs(6 earned), in 1 inning.
I'd really like if they based the management decisions on performance next year, or give some good goals that have to do with my pitching.Comment

Re: MLB 09 "Road To The Show" thread
Hey, for all the pitchers out there, I have a question for you guys. How long before you guys added another pitch to your arsenal? Right now, I'm in my second year as the number 1 SP for the Oriole's AAA team (My AA team won the championship the first year). Before I was hesitant to add a fourth pitch because I wanted to hone my first three pitches before I added my fourth one. I'm thinking if I'm good enough in AAA I may be called up at September or make it to the majors at the end of this year. If so, I would rather wait until I get to the bigs before I add my fourth.
So what did you guys do? Oh and which pitch you guys think I should add? Right now I have a 4-seamer, curveball, and changeup.
And one more question. As I said before right now I'm in my second year. How come when I press R1 to check my stamina and stuff, it still says I'm a rookie?

Re: MLB 09 "Road To The Show" thread
Well, here's a surprise. Apparently I beat out Huff in Spring Training and am starting season #2 as a 19 year old starting 1B for the O's! I was hoping for AAA starter (and to be honest, based on history with RTTS, expected to only get backup somehow), but my spring was great and I guess I spread around enough points to make an impact.
In the off-season I got a pleasant surprise and was invited to spring training. Looked at the roster and it turns out that the O's didn't sign anyone worth anything at my position and the only guy rated higher than me is Huff. I'm shooting for AAA starter (maybe even a shot at the MLB squad if they want a backup 1B) in year 2.
Spring is here...we'll see how it goes.
Here's something that might help some guys feeling like they're stuck in the minors. Spread your points around as much as possible, while also focusing on a strength. I boosted my power (74 VS RHP, 72 VS LHP) and Contact (75 VS RHP, 70 VS LHP) the most and spread out the rest on fielding/arm, durability, and plate vision/disciple/clutch.
The result was a much faster overall growth, it seems. I ignored pretty much any coach suggestion that didn't fit this program (they are obsessed with plate vision/discipline and bunting for me).
I would only go in-line with one of the two or three suggestions he gave me, while focusing on reaching the goals. It's a risk/reward, becuase if you don't reach the goals, you don't get the cushion on ignoring training suggestions. If you get them though, you can ignore the training with no worries.
So, starting 1B for Orioles in year 2! Plus, with Wiggington gone, I got to get back my #23.
Hopefully, I'll perform and stay there. If not, I have no issues with AAA Norfolk being home for a year.
Sucks. I played on Bowie as well, and we made the championship series (lost it in 5 though). The extra points went a long way towards helping my guy along, I think.Last edited by SoxFan01605; 03-19-2009, 05:15 PM.Comment

Re: MLB 09 "Road To The Show" thread
I wouldn't add a fourth pitch yet. Think about it, if you do that is 3 more categories that need training points. Perfect your 3 pitches until you're unstoppable, THEN add one. By your arsenal, I'd add a sinker. When the "Get a ground out" goal pops up, a sinker does the trick.Hey, for all the pitchers out there, I have a question for you guys. Have you played in the MLB yet and had a full year? It's your status as an MLB player. If you did play in the MLB, perhaps you didnt pitch the numbers of pitches to qualify as a rookie.Comment

Re: MLB 09 "Road To The Show" thread
Speak of the devil, about 4 more appearances later my SS makes 5 errors in one inning. The game only counted it as 3 because it doesn't count the second error on the play in this game(which has been mentioned in the glitches thread, the first is a bobble of the ball and the second is an overthrow into the stands). The starting SS for my team has 33 errors!
So, after being sent to the pen I've had about 4 or 5 appearances and been dominant in them. It's almost the end of the year and sadly I think I'll be stuck in AA again next year since I (wrongly)got booted from the rotation and there's just not enough time to get back into it(about a week left).
Also, congratulations SoxFan01605, you're dude looks like a beast hitting wise, so hopefully you can get off to a good start at a young age. Maybe you'll be in the league long enough and break the HR record(since it looks like you have some above average power which will most likely continue to rise).Comment

Re: MLB 09 "Road To The Show" thread
Thanks. I'm gonna spend the bulk of my points now on fielding and the "mental" aspects of hitting and try to balance my guy out (in an effort to keep me in the majors). You progress your overall faster that way, it seems, becuase of how the points seem to be wighted (meaning your 40 points stretch a rating further when it's lower). Also, congratulations SoxFan01605, you're dude looks like a beast hitting wise, so hopefully you can get off to a good start at a young age. So far, the power hasn't meant tons of homers (likely a user issue...lol) but coupled with the increase contact ratings, I'm getting harder hits in general allowing for more to get by defenders.
It's nice to get the early start in MLB though, as there are more points to be had if you can stay on the field (basing that off of last year).
Also, I noticed the same thing with fielding (it was there last year too). The infielders are particularly inept from what I've seen. I've missed out on a fair share of Putouts at 1B due to bobbled balls and bad throws.Comment

Re: MLB 09 "Road To The Show" thread
I added a 4th pitch in the middle of my first season in AA ball. Three pitches is great especially when you can build them up. You are never gonna get an advancement goal to increase a pitch. Plus when you spend any point on any one aspect of a pitch all three raitings (speed, control, movement) are affected. Meaning if you are worried about points and it's close to 30 days just hit one and all three will turn back to blue.Hey, for all the pitchers out there, I have a question for you guys. As for your next pitch. I would recommend another hard one. Either a cutter of a split/fork. You want a ball that you can use in between your 4seamer and your Change. It will look like one or the other but either be to fast or to slow and have some movement which will fool the hitters. I love my pitches right now. 4SFB, Change, Slurve, Split. I can pretty much do what I want with all those and they are all pitches that you want to keep down in the zone (except good ole #1). I only get into trouble when I miss my spot with the change and it gets too high or too much of the plate. Other than that I love my combination of pitches and what I can do to the hitter.
You will have Rookie status till your first season in the bigs. Don't worry about it.Moderator
