Wait a minute, lol. Pitchers have scouting reports in real life. All this hot/cold zone is telling you is what real pitchers know in real life before a game. It's a tool that is put in for the gamers, and they should use it. I'm not saying to leave it on, as I don't, but will I peek at it during a game, sure. Matter of fact, I don't even use the ball marker, it's off, but if guys need some help with the game, and it's not real life, lol, telling them to just put it on the computer isn't much of a help.

Re: Too many two out inning rallies by AI!! (Comeback AI Discussion)
Just had a game where the Giants had lead off hits in both the 8th and 9th inning.
Got double plays in both innings as well.
I think that if you go into a game with the mindset that the team is going to comeback on you, then more than likely it will happen.
Maybe positive thinking should be practiced from time to time.Comment

i think its easy to play the game and not really think about what you are doing wrong. here is an examination of myself, i play on allstar, batting wise i feel im definately on hall of fame and maybe legend. pitching though i have some problems, mostly from how much i dont trust my breaking pitches, specifically sliders and curveballs. they always seem to hang at the wrong moment or completely miss where i want to put them. the result is me relying way too much on my fastballs and changeups, i completely become predictable because of this. when im in an inning and my fastball(s) confidence is down, i am in huge trouble and have to start planning accordingly.
if you guys are having problems with late inning rallys, post them here and give alot of information of whats going on. lets have a discussion about how to avoid them and what kind of decisions would help you.Comment

There are ways to overcome this. It's a tougher game than last year. Someone had said how much better last years game was and I remember a thread I started about how frustrated I was with hitting. At the toughest level I was pounding out 15 or more hits a game. Somebody suggested I hold the L stick all the way in and try that....lol, it worked. Sort of had to jury rig the game, but had to do what I had to do.Comment

It seems to me like in the 7th, 8th, and 9th the batter just don't swing at balls, and when it is in the strike zone, even on the corner they snag a hit.Comment

Re: Too many two out inning rallies by AI!! (Comeback AI Discussion)
Allow me clarify what i said...I'm pitching the same way meaning that i'm hitting the realease point consistently on the pitching meter and getting ahead of batters, but then all the sudden the balls being hit are dropping where my fielders aren't, when for 7 innings i was getting choppers and ground outs... i'm sorry but a breaking ball that is by all accounts going to bounce of the plate (based on the way it's been reacting for 7 innings) getting hit out of the park is NOT the CPU adapting. It's simply the AI getting their quota for a game against a human...at least that's what it feels like when i playComment

Also let me add if i throw a breaking ball that hangs up in the zone and it gets launched outta the park, Hey i"m all for it!!!!
I mean i will take that all day, because then see it's on me...I MADE A MISTAKE...what a novel concept that would be!!!Comment

Re: Too many two out inning rallies by AI!! (Comeback AI Discussion)
this can be overcome though, the most obvious is learn to throw those breaking pitches better, maybe try classic pitching out or playing with the release till i have it down to a science. im confident i will overcome it, there is a ton of good information on these forums and im always learning alot.Comment

Re: Too many two out inning rallies by AI!! (Comeback AI Discussion)
sure have, you have alot of good info in there. my problem though is not really setting up the strikeout or ground out, but how insecure i am about throwing sliders and curveballs. when i get into an inning and my 4sfb or 2sfb confidence is down, i just took away one or two of my pitches away from my arsenal, now if im reluctant to throw either the slider or cb, then thats one or 2 more possible pitches taken away from me. it starts to limit what i feel i can throw, so lets just say for argument the only pitches i have left are changeup and say cutfastball, those become the pitches i will go to when i need a strike or ground ball, it completely destroys me in the long run.

That's what I love about it. Also in that thread you can't be afraid to walk guys. What I mean about that, if you're pitching to Pujols in a bad situation and he walks....well, that might be good. I can't, for the life of me, get Brian McCann out in this game, lol. He eats me up. Just one of those things. (well, I can get him out, but he's gonna get his hits and RBIs off of my pitchers).
Take those sliders for the CPU all the way down. Just try it, then work off of that. If you need to raise them because you're starting to get it...then do it, but the sliders do work.Comment

Man, that shows you how intense this game is if you're afraid to throw a curveball in a video game,. That's what I love about it. Also in that thread you can't be afraid to walk guys. Re: Too many two out inning rallies by AI!! (Comeback AI Discussion)
I think the thing with breaking balls is that throwing good effective breaking balls means throwing them low in the zone/below the zone. Problem is the CPU barely swings at balls below the zone, the CPU does once in a great while. Therefore, you have too small of a zone to throw a breaking ball to get a positive result of some kind (get an out or strike, or build pitch confidence). It seems like one of the primary reasons to throw a breaking ball is to throw off the batter's timing so you can get them on a fastball. In real life throwing a good splitter, curve, slider, etc. in the dirt is a legit strikeout pitch, I've NEVER seen the CPU chase a ball in the dirt.Comment
