Re: For those that question the comebacks and AI play late in the game.
Its amazing that these threads continue. I stopped playing this game like 4 weeks ago. The comeback AI or rubberband "effect" or whatever you want to call it ruined this game. And its a shame because this game had plenty to offer in other areas. I knew you would quit playing the game swaldo, you see what I seen with it, even with all the naysayers out there with the rude comments. I am really surprised that the mods continue to let these threads slide. I thought they would have shut them all down by now because of the negative thoughts about this game. Anyway I have moved on and maybe next year, hopefully they fix this game, I know I won't buy it early like I did this year. Next year I will wait a long time and rent it. peace to all.Comment

Re: For those that question the comebacks and AI play late in the game.
Not to be rude, but the game is just realistic and hard. I used to think the exact same thing as you but I've made some adjustments and take my time now and I am now able to avoid those dreaded comebacks. I play on Vet. That's why I thought as well that the game was just "broken" because I kept losing/blowing leads and it seemed I had no say in the matter. It is just very realistic. This is MLB. you can't throw cookies over the plate and you cannot rest no matter what your lead. Just last night, I stopped and saved after 1 inning cause my head just wasn't in it. When you fail to concentrate you will pay. Must have a purpose with every pitch. Know what you are doing ahead of time. Assess the situation carefully, and if needed read up on situational strategies used in MLB. This game mimics MLB much more than I used to used to think. Or give 2K a tryComment

Well maybe its because you play on Vet. Maybe you don't see as many funky things. Move up to Legend or HOF and then we'll talk. All the other talk about paying attention, strategies et al. That's all very fundemental and if you know baseball that would be second nature to you. But thanks for your help.
Alright, now this thread is really on the highway to Closed City.Comment

Re: For those that question the comebacks and AI play late in the game.
Great post fortyfive, I wholeheartedly agree.
I absolutely love this game like no other. Sure, it has it moments where you go WTF?, but IT"S A VIDEO GAME!!!!
I also think a lot of people are not necessarily baseball fans, but more video game baseball fans.
The difference? Baseball fans know that it is a sport of chance, luck, talent, and a chess match at times. Matchups are huge. Situations have a variety of choices to make and the wrong one will inevitably be chosen from time to time.
Baseball video game fans want a game to pick up and play. "It's just a video game, who cares if I leave my pitcher in one more batter." When they see something they have never seen in a baseball video game (the CPU fighting back) they sometimes curse the game sucks, or the game is to blame.
This game was made for people that love baseball IRL, and want it replicated in a video game. This game truly is like no other, it does so many things right vs wrong.
I have seen comebacks go both ways. And big ones at that.
But ya know what? Look at the real life sports pages and plenty of teams blow games after dominating for 7 or 8 innings. Plenty of teams blow leads when winning by 5 runs in the 6th. It is a 162 game season, you will see many things. Bullpens were inevitibly made to blow games!!!! That is why they are in the bullpen!!!
Ok, that's my two sense, now back to this game!!!Comment

Re: For those that question the comebacks and AI play late in the game.
Hey all...First time poster.
Just thought I'd share what has helped me with the "comeback" thing.
First off use the slider set that you deem to be most realistic for your style of play.
I've also played with the cpu comeback option but not sure if it actually helps or not because I think my third point I'll bring up next is the main reason the game has played for realistically when I have a lead, but I do turn CPU comeback on when I'm not leading by 4 or more and turn it off if I happen to be up by 4 or more.
Now third and in my opinion most important:
You have to vary your pitch speeds.....ALOT
I played around with every option and slider imaginable but I didn't get the results I was looking for until I started varying my pitch speed/location/type based on what the current batter has seen recently (ie. batters in front of him) and what the current batter saw in his previous at bats.
I know the game can be frustrating at first because it really did seem like the CPU would comeback everytime I had a lead, but once I started pitching like a real MLB pitcher would pitch...the realism of this game just went off the charts.
In my franchise with the Cubs, I'm 39-34 through 73 games and not once did I feel "cheated" in any of my losses.
Just work at it is all I'm saying I guess. Watch your starters pitch counts closely (especially in April/May). Have a strategy against each batter you face and don't just lob up whatever the API tells you to at the same speed every time.Comment

What did you think was going to happen?

DaPrince: glad you learned how to use the search feature...it's a forgotten art these days.Originally posted by Gibson88Anyone who asked for an ETA is not being Master of their Domain.
It's hard though...especially when I got my neighbor playing their franchise across the street...maybe I will occupy myself with Glamore Magazine.Comment

I guess the other point I'd add to DaPrince's great post is: Don't try to get strikeouts with pitchers who are not strikeout pitchers! Work the corners and vary your speeds as he said. When I started realizing this, it was an epiphany.Last edited by ImTellinTim; 06-10-2009, 05:49 PM.Comment
