Re: so I played my first game with CPU comeback set to ON

Now I know you guys will probably will not like this, but with Comeback ON, in my case remember that this is in my case, the computer came back probably 80% of the time. I tried probably around 20 games, so the computer came back around 15 to 16 times. And it was noticeable for me. So I went back to off and well I don't know, it doesn't feel as if their is comeback AI to me. The first game back from comeback AI I pitched a 5 hit shutout with Randy Wolf and won 2-0 with no notice of the Angels trying to comeback.

Now again, this is just me, not people as a whole.Comment

Re: so I played my first game with CPU comeback set to ON

 First post here,

This is one of the most intense videogame related threads I've ever seen but, as mentioned previously by someone, a lot of good has come out of it. I've looked at this game as a system seller for me and potentially for some friends as well so in seeing how passionate some of you are getting here is a good thing.

A core group of us used to play MVP 2005 on ps2 super competively amongst each other with drafts, spreadsheet standings, the whole deal. But ever since that game (possible thickheadedness I know), nothing has come close to the realism, pitching system, fluidity and fun it had. And most importantly there weren't any BS comebacks, it was all about the skill, timing and fooling batters. It is good to know that all of you have praised this game regardless of this possible glitch.

I for one feel like the CPU comeback/handicaps belong in the NBA Jams, Street Fighters and Mario Karts and should stay the f*** out of sports sims, especially baseball. The start of this thread worried me that it was here too (comeback on and off), but with the power of the internets and unemployment/vacation time it seemed to figure itself out. With the sliders in MLB 09 it appears all of you can tune the game to fit your style while as well while still being competitve against the CPU with no forced close games.

To sum it up you all have convinced me to get a ps3 next price drop and play the crap out of this game . Thanks for all the statistcal analyses everyone. . Thanks for all the statistcal analyses everyone.Comment

Re: so I played my first game with CPU comeback set to ON

 DId more research yesterday:

Four games, lost 3, won 1 (I'm not good at the game), but I saw a great variety of scores and with the exception of one game no huge rallies w/o reason.

 First game: 4 - 2, loss.
 Second game, 5 - 1, win
THird game: 11 - 3 (blowout loss, never close)
Fourth game: 4 - 2 (very tight game, and aside from a stupid base running mistake I made, where I let my guy get doubled up ona deep fly ball that would have brought in a run, it would have been 4 - 3).

So, in four games, the 4 - 1 and 11 - 3 were certainly not close, the 4 - 2 first loss, I was never really in it, the 4 - 2 second loss I was very in the game and, like I said, should have been 4 - 3 but I ran both runners on a pop out sac fly instead of just one runner, I didn't know how to run just one responsively.

This was with the comeback setting turned ON.Comment

Re: so I played my first game with CPU comeback set to ON

I am playing this game on All-Star, with default sliders except CPU Pitcher Control, Consistency, and Strike Frequency which I have set at -2 from default (or 3 if you use the 0-10 scale) and have seen a huge difference.
As I said in an earlier post about this, now if I win a game I know why, and if I lose a game I know why. I don't feel cheated by the CPU. If my pitcher has his confidence high I can pretty much do what I want on the mound. On the flip-side of that, if he gets roughed up in an inning and his confidence is down he takes a lot longer to get his control back, which can be, and usually is, the key spot in the game.Comment

So do you have it set to on then? I am also on allstar and want to try this. Of course now for some reason I can't even find the gameplay option to set it to on? I have seen it before I know? Crazy! Where is it again if you could, thanks.I am playing this game on All-Star, with default sliders except CPU Pitcher Control, Consistency, and Strike Frequency which I have set at -2 from default (or 3 if you use the 0-10 scale) and have seen a huge difference.

Yes, I play with this ON.
Pause the game, go into game options, under global. You'll see one for the CPU and one for Player 2. It also saves in franchise once you save your game.Comment

Re: so I played my first game with CPU comeback set to ON

Sorry but i just have to disagree. i have been playing default allstar for the past week or so. Started up a season and these were my first 5 results.
 LAA(me) v chw L8-5
 v Cin L 11-1
 v Mil L6-4
 V Pit L 5-2
and one other i forget who against anyway i lost 6-4.
I then decided to turn it to ON and i win the next game 5-1. Now obviously 1 game does not confirm everything, but to go from getting whipped in the first 5 games and i mean i was down by at least 5 in all of them at one point or another to winning and only giving up 1 run in the next, that tells me something strange is going on.... whatever you want to call it Comment

I did not read through all the pages but was there a majority one way or another of which works best off or on. Also have any developers replied in this thread to say anything about the issue.Comment

I don't think there's a majority either way. "Just play it the way it works best for you" is about the only consensus there is (and probably ever will be, due to the nature of this issue).

While not in this thread, Russell has replied to other threads saying it works as intended "if it's turned off, it's off".Comment

Re: so I played my first game with CPU comeback set to ON

Played another game on All Star and beware what you wish for. Yesterday I was complaining there were not enough blowouts. In this game I was down quick 6-0 against Boston. Then I came back with 3 runs so it's 6-3. Then I realized I never changed the setting (comeback was still ON.) I switched it back to off and was completely blown away the rest of the game. Final score 21-4!

I pride myself on pitching and it's my favorite part of the game. Thus far my ERA has probably averaged around 4.0-4.5 but as usual Boston didn't chase any pitches and any strikes I threw were nailed. As the score got worse so did my concentration - I got sloppy but still a blowout like this was nice to see.

I still think on All Star comeback sliders are not reversed. Although this is the second game with really high scores when the game started with comeback on. The very first time I tried comeback ON I won 15-11 and have heard others mention big offensive outbursts.Comment

Been playing A LOT lately. I made a long post in the "confidence meter" thread about it.

It is perfectly fine with Comeback set to OFF. The CPU has been coming back on me in the later innings every time ever since I turned it to ON (I still won one, and lost a couple others).

I think with it "OFF", it's not even the comeback glitch we have to worry about or any reversal glitch....it's avoiding these Barry Bonds barrages the CPU goes on. This happens regardless if they're trailing or winning. I notice that they mostly happen with 2 outs (which I've been saying for a while).

I think the Confidence meter being fickle is the big problem here.Last edited by pbz06; 03-24-2009, 04:17 PM.Comment
