Went up 6-3 against Boston on a Joe Crede grand slam. Next inning, 2 rocket singles....so I change the difficulty to Rookie, and get out of the inning.

If the game wants to cheat, I can cheat it right back.

I'm currently tracking my ERA and opponent batting average separately when leading, trailing and tied. I was thinking if there is some CPU boosts the results will tell me how much to tone down their sliders when I'm ahead. If anyone wants to contribute to the test feel free to PM your results. I am playing all star season - default everything with comeback off. I'll share where things stand when I get at least 100 innings of each accumulated.

I kinda dig those raging comebacks staged by the CPU...makes a guy pitch smarter and it makes every pitch and every play that much more crucial to the outcome and your success or failure. Thats the sh*t that makes this game so much fun. Compared to last seasons ease of winning...I welcome a good thorough *ss kicking from the CPU...if I play poorly and make bad decisions...I should get it kicked. Switching to Rookie midgame to win? I don't judge and to each his own.....but I do question....my question....is your goal to win every game you play vs. the CPU or do you settle for...say...a 95% win / loss record? Or was this a one time occurance?

i really dont think its a matter of winning or losing here...
at least not for me...
just FYI i was 16-12 on my season with the option OFF and now i am 3-6 , the important thing is that with it OFF i only had close games ...now i have all kinds of games with it ON..blow outs and close games.

I am going to give that a try....the variety of game scores would be interesting. I am only playing Exhibitions right now, waiting for the final edited roster to come out before I start a Franchise...so far alot of my games have been close in score like you mentioned yours have been...the variety would be a nice change. I will say...playing against that Golden Era All Star team...I have gotten trashed ( beaten by as many as 10 runs) more times than I have beaten them. The variety in scores you mentioned will be good....I'll give it a try...thanks for the input.

Been following this thread for quite some time, so I guess I'll post what I've found since turning the comeback ON.

A little background - I played an entire season on last year's game, first half of the season on Vet, got too easy, next 40 games on All-Star, got too easy, finished up on HOF. This year's game, played the first game on Vet. Won 16-5 (default sliders). Moved to AS, default sliders, went .500 over about 25 games or so. Hit poorly. So, I moved back down to Vet, altered just a few sliders, but very slightly. Still around .500 for the next 50-some games. Never could get more than 4 games above .500.

Then, I found this thread.

Turned the option on, have gone 14-3 since then. Granted, I've only had about 3 games that were wins or losses of more than 4 runs (largest being a 6-0 win), but the win / loss difference alone has been astounding. I'm actually currently on an 8-game winning streak.

The last game was the first time I've actually seen a "comeback" inning with the option on. In my Indians 'chise, I was up 7-2 on the M's, going into the bottom of the 9th at Safeco. Double by Branyan. Double by Griffey. Branyan scores, 7-3. Strike out Lopez. Home Run Beltre. 7-5. Bring in Wood (for the 4th straight day). Men at first and second. Strikeout, pop up, game over.

But, I've LOVED the way the game has been playing overall since switching the option. It may be coincidence, since I got Westbrook back (kept him in AAA until All-Star break, since he's out until then in real life this year), and Carmona and Peralta came back after long stints on the DL. So, again, it could be coincidence, and maybe it's just because my team is finally 100% healthy, but I can't help but notice I was hovering around .500 for my first 80 games with it OFF, and now have gone 14-3 with it on.

Yeh the whole comeback thing is getting annoying. I just had to stop my 3rd season because I was falling way below 500. You dont see it all the time but whether its on or off it happens way to often. I was playing a game and thinking WOW I have comeback CPU turned on and thats just weird. Boston you were playing? well on this game dont even get me started on that they are like a video game mecca. Ive never beat them. I consider myself a pretty good show player and have lost to them every time in about 16 games. I beat other teams though fairly well but Ive never swept a series on Legend level.

I welcome the computer beating me...if it's fair. If pitching was just naturally hard, and I got knocked around all the time, then I could attribute it to the difficulty, and make adjustments. But when I am dominating with a pitcher, and suddenly go up by 3 or more runs, then I suddenly can't do anything to keep them off the bases? My control gets out of whack, the ump even squeezes me on any close pitches, and weak hitting middle infielders are smacking perfectly thrown sinking fastballs into the gap for doubles. It isn't just a coincidence. It isn't the CPU learning my pitching tendencies. It isn't me suddenly losing it as a video gamer. It's cheating, plain and simple. I don't care what any at Sony says about the issue. They are either straight up lying about it to cover their asses over their feature being flat out broken, or there's something deep inside the code of the game, that they didn't catch, that gives the computer an unreal advantage. It doesn't happen 100% of the time, but it happens often enough to make the "Most Realistic Baseball Game Ever" title completely wrong.

Agree 100 percent but!!! Lets not hammer too much because I for one was one of those people complaining last year about a harder difficulty level. Now this company has put out the best product ever made as far as any sports game ever let alone baseball which is very hard . So basically what happened is they took this lets make the CPU no joke mentality to another level. They did not mean it and I truly believe that because any group of people who can put out a product this realistic would not intentionally make the CPU cheat. That just sounds bad and takes a shot at them. They did however make the CPU attributes go way too high when the human is winning which I am just hoping they address. Do I know how hard it is to adjust this with a patch no!!! but that is why I just pay my 60 dollars each year and get much more than my moneys worth although with this thing I might go back to the 08 version cuz it wasnt there.

Well I just played my first two games with CPU Comeback ON. The first game I lost 6-2. The second game was more interesting. It was a great pitcher's duel between Dice-K and Price. I was Dice-K and had a 2-hitter going into the 7th. I was losing 1-0. In the 7th I scored 3 runs to take the lead 3-1. Now this is where usually with Comeback Off the cpu would suddenly string together an extremely unrealistic amount of hits and runs to take a large lead. But not this time. This time the cpu went down in realistic fashion and I ended up winning 3-1. Finally! No ridiculous cpu comeback! I know this is just one game but it's definitely promising. Thanks Davewins.

Same thing happened with me when I switched it on.

I've lost and won a few games since I did, and I'm enjoying the game more than I was. I'm not seeing any real CPU comebacks... I won a game 9 - 3 today, and I had a 2 - 0 win, 1 - 0 win, a bunch of losses, and one blowout losses like 11 - 4 or something. But it felt nice to finally "break out" and get some good hits... a lot of 2 out hits too, I think at least 7 of the runs in this game were with 2 outs for me.

Although I did run into a base running blunder again and almost turned off the game. I think that base running can be needlessly difficult sometimes to "target" the player with the left analog stick and then tell him where to go using the ... face buttons, even though normally you're using L1 R1, L2, and R2... I had a deep double off the Monster, with a guy on 1B, and I was gonna send the guy on first home (I think it was PEdroia, decent speed)... so I select him and then intrinsically hit "L1" which actually sends all runners. So, whatever, I go to bring him back but realize he's not "selected" anymore because I hit L1, so I'm mashing the Square button to get him to come back but he's not (because he's no longer selected), so I hit R1 to bring all runner sback... and Lowell, who is pretty much walking into 2B with a double turns and runs back to first base... gets tagged out easily. I was pissed.

But anyway, I'm trying to get my base running coordinated, but sometimes it kills me.
