    Re: so I played my first game with CPU comeback set to ON

    I never use it...but I have recently played a couple of series with it on for the sake of being able to make at least a reasonably informed comment / opinion. I did not notice any difference with it on or off, perhaps the game situations ( I was playing better teams, using below avg skilled pitchers in my bullpen and from AAA) made it hard to notice...but as I mentioned, I could not see any difference. I will continue to play with it off.

    75% of the Earths surface is covered by water......the remaining 25% is covered by Ichiro.

      So far here is my ERA breakdown while pitching on All Star level default everything, comeback OFF:

      8.55 When leading
      5.32 When tied
      1.67 When trailing

      Sample size thus far is way too low, not reaching any conclusions yet. However, if these numbers hold up then the "Your not pitching right" argument will no longer be valid. I think the numbers shown above will end up merging closer together but by how much we'll have to see.

        I also think when the API is on that helps too. I played with it off and I was getting blown out or had a big lead going into the 9th and would blow the lead or lose the game. Once i turned the CPU Comeback and the API on the games were closer haven't had a blowout loss and haven't blown a lead yet either been this way for about 2 weeks now.

          Any concensus on which difficulty levels turning comeback on seem to work on? I'm on All Star, and i'm noticing the game doesn't play too much differently with the setting on or off. Is it just a HOF and Legend thing, or have people found it to work on all levels?

          BTW, I played on veteran when I first got the game, and I certainly saw the torrid CPU comebacks in the next innings after I had just scored. Didn't matter who I had on the mound, I was ripped. And yes, I do know how to pitch, despite the fact that anyone who has this problem seems to get ripped by forum vets for not knowing how to pitch. To say that everyone who has this problem just doesn't know how to pitch is absurd.

            Legend. The other levels don't seem any different according to myself and most others who have tried it. I cannot vouch for legend though as I've been sticking to all star. Actually, we haven't really heard anything about HOF in this thread - most everyone seems to play Vet, AS or legend.

              Actually I play on HOF with some slider adjustments, and I definitely see a difference with comeback on and off.

                This is just me personally, BUT...

                I have now played 102 games in my first season of my Indians franchise. Played on All-Star default for the first part of the season, was around .500. Moved down to Vet default, played on that for about 50 games or so, and the best I could do was get to 4 games above .500.

                Ever since I found this thread / turned comeback ON in Vet, I've gone 20-4. Most of the games are close still, but I've had the occasional 4+ run win. (In fact, I just beat the Angels 10-2 a couple games ago.) All 4 of my losses have been by 3 or less, though.

                Anyway, just including my experience into the whole "which difficulties is it working on" part. On Vet, with it on, I've gone 20-4 after playing .500 ball for around 80 games with it off.

                  Re: so I played my first game with CPU comeback set to ON

                  Loading player settings:

                  I wasn't doing this and every time I loaded my franchise I'd have to go in the gameplay and reset all my setting especially the on/off comeback.

                  Well apparently that doesn't work because I started saving the settings and loading them before I start a franchise game.

                  I never realized I wasn't getting the affect of my changes. Now when I save and load my settings(you probably only have to save settings once you're set) I see a incredible natural playing game.

                  Now I see how well the game plays with comeback ON!

                  Most importantly, my user strikeouts have dramatically declined. The cpu doesn't hit the corners with laser precision and my strikeouts are in line.

                  I draw more walks and even the cpu sliders for pitcher control and consistency seem to work better. Lower them and I see more pitches for balls and walks.

                  I even have 1,2,3 first innings! which seemed so prevalent before.

                  So, I wonder, is this the right procedure? Must you load you settings?

                  and...what's with this setting glitch about restarting your disc? This has me paranoid. Every time I'm able to layoff the the tough curveball for a ball, I think I'm playing veteran even though the game says HOF (lol)

                        Comeback code ON didn't work for me just now....(Veteran mode)
                        Tribe v. Blue Jays:
                        Anthony Reyes (me) had a no hitter going into the fifth. I was up 5-0.
                        Then, base hit.........throwing error (Overthrew from second to first base!!!)........3-run shot. 5-3, change pitchers.

                        Base hit..........2 run shot!!! Now 5-5.

                        Extras we go.....
                        Bottom of the 12th, finally, Garko hits a walk-off 3-run shot. 8-5 final. (I got my first trophy..)
                        Should've been over a long time ago, though.
                        So, I've now turned fielding and throwing errors to zero. Perhaps this will help, I dunno.
                        I see the frustrations people are having.....one minute I'm Nolan Ryan, and the next, I'm some unknown rookie pitching his first ever MLB game. Right.
                        I've gotta keep playing to see if it was just this game or not.

                          Guys, Brian Ma, one of the lead AI programmers, when asked in another thread if the CPU Comeback could be reversed, said this...

                          Originally posted by Brian SCEA

                          Fatigue affects pitcher control and movement very gradually, but it adds up if you keep a pitcher in too long. But even near the end of a pitcher's start he can make up for this by pitching more carefully around batters (on average, increasing walks instead of extra base hits). This is a general trend you'll only see over many games, in individual games anything can happen at any time.

                          That said, a tired Ace is on average much better than a fresh reliever. But at some point that starter is going to lose effectiveness (or complete the game), and a reliever is going to be better. Ideally, you replace the starter before he proves this point.

                          Excluding closers, collectively starters pitch much better over 6 innings than relievers do over 1. That's how much better they are overall.
                          There is no "reversing", no glitch, no bug, no nothing, unless of course Brian is lying for hell of it (he isnt).

                          Can we please now kill these topics, there is nowhere else to go.

                            Well actually isn't it better for people to discuss a bug that doesn't exist than one that does? A lot of people are posting interesting personal experiences thanks to this discussion.

                            Here are some things people have said:
                            * It doesn't do anything
                            * It does the opposite
                            * It works exactly the way it says it does
                            * I'm not sure
                            * It makes the user draw more walks, sliders are more potent
                            http://www.operationsports.com/forum...post2039360395
                            * etc..

                            The original post is based on one game played being an significant blowout. Many other people have also had such blowouts without any setting changes.

                            Let me ask you, how much does pitching ability matter in real life baseball? Over the long run, a lot. But if a good pitcher has a bad day, does that mean he's no longer a good pitcher? What if he gives up a blowout? If a manager said something must be wrong with an Ace every time he gave up a blowout, we'd have no Aces.

                            This is why you're going to still have blowouts with comeback settings on. The setting would have to be many times stronger than the difference between Johan Santana and a scrub to stop that. But in exchange for eliminating shutouts, you'd have a very erratic game.

                              I see what you are saying, from your point, a game developers, yes it is

                              I think (hope) people will let this (non) "issue" die a slow and natural death now because quite frankly if it goes on much longer im on the verge of ending it all :wink:

                              Thanks for clearing this up Brian.

                                I just hope they don't cave into all this nonsense and make hitting easier next year, I can't make it through another 08 type of experience(Way to easy).
